Project PU Matchmaking! Season 3, Week 5: Rotom-Frost! (Submission phase)

Sandslash-Alola @ Leftovers
Ability: Slush Rush
EVs: 252 HP / 208 SpD / 48 Spe
Careful Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic / Iron Head
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake

Qwilfish and alolan sandslash form an ideal hazard control core for any spike stacking team. Because if there's one thing qwilfish hates, it's froslass as her higher speed allows her to taunt the fish and gain an advantage in the hazard game. With alolan sandslash, not only does your team have a solid lass answer but also other hazard removers that qwilfish might struggle with such as cryogonal, skuntank, and claydol. In return, qwilfish provides sandslash with a nice fighting check and physically defensive pivot.

Yo I'll be the guy posting Rain Qwilfish

Qwilfish @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Poison Jab
- Explosion

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 29 HP
Modest Nature
- Rain Dance
- Hydro Pump
- Giga Drain
- Ice Beam

Qwilfish and Ludicolo make a fantastic core on rain teams as they're both able to pressure common Water-type resists like Lanturn and Gastrodon, relieving stress on each other to be the sole answer for the rest of the team. In addition to this, they both have pretty nice synergy as they're both able to weaken Guzzlord and Drampa, and can take out each others checks. For example, Qwilfish can freely switch into non-Thunder Punch Hitmonchan for Ludicolo, and Ludicolo can take on Jellicent without caring about much at all.

Congrats to gum for winning last weeks PU Matchmaking with her Golurk submission! As someone who nommed up Golurk in the VR, I definitely appreciate the offensive presence and utility that it provides via spin block and Stealth Rock, and it seems like a lot of people did too!
There was also a triple tie between Squash17 ^_^, uhuhuhu7 and rudyr1 with their respective Sableye, Ludicolo and Guzzlord submissions! Spin blocking, rain sweepers and just strong wallbreakers are great partners for Qwil. Thank you to everyone who submitted and voted! Was a lot of fun!

WEEK 10!

During the final week of Matchmaking the PU players will have to find a partner for Dodrio! This offensive powerhouse has been incredibly versatile in the the tier, with sets such as SD, Scarf and Band all providing different levels of fear to players who arent prepared to face a specific set. This Flying-type Pokemon has great Speed, access to Knock Off and ability to boost up its Attack via Sword Dance, and its high Attack and ability to overwhelm physical walls such as Regirock and Tangela make it a terrifying pick in the tier, but is this 3 headed creature able to find a lover?

MENTION WITH DOD SET YOURE USING! DOUBLE POINTS THIS WEEK TOO!
Good luck and thank you for the support through these 10 weeks, its been greatly appreciated. :)

Dodrio and Ludicolo form a very good core for a couple of reasons. First of all, Dodrio breaks through Ludicolo's check and switchins, such as Audino, Articuno, and Hitmonchan while Dodrio appreciate Ludicolo breaking through walls like Regirock and Mudsdale, which can threaten Dodrio, and it can even use Ran Dance on them or switch on them. Second of all, Ludicolo greatly appreciates Dodrio's ability to pick off threats like weakened Choice Scarf Dodrio, which outspeeds even Timid Ludicolo under Rain, and Choice Scarf Scyther, which outspeeds Modest Ludicolo. While this core is fairly self-sufficient offensively, it still appreciates entry hazards support from Froslass, Mesprit, and Mudsdale. This core also appreciate hazards removal, so Pokémon like Skuntank and Cryogonal work well alongside it. Lastly, this core is rather lacking defensively so Pokémon like Lanturn, which can pivot on Fire- and Ice-types like Simisear and Aurorus and Regirock, which can switch into Stoutland and also Kangaskhan, which poses a huge threat to this core due to its access to priority.

Dodrio @ Choice Band
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Return
- Jump Kick
- Pursuit / Quick Attack / Knock Off

Lanturn @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 56 SpD / 200 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Heal Bell / Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam / Ice Beam / Hidden Power Grass

CB Dodrio is my favorite set since it actually has immediate power and can be very threatening with its strong pursuit. While Lanturn is just a good pivot in general and the two cover each other ok (ground-immunity + electric-immunity) I love gum 's Scarf set so much because of sniping lycanroc and being speed control since scarf is weak and all.

I changed my mind I'm doing the noodle boy.

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed

Dodrio @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Jump Kick
- Return

Tangela serves as a pretty solid partner to Dodrio, being able to check the physically offensive revenge killers like Lycanroc and Scarf Kabutops while also being able to pressure defensive walls like Regirock, Mudsdale and Sableye which all threaten to kill/cripple Dodrio. Knock Off and Leech Seed are also worth noting, as it allows Tangela to wear down the likes of Gurdurr and Type: Null, giving Dodrio a much stronger chance to clean up in the late game.
In return, Dodrio is able to offensively threaten out special attackers like Drampa and Victreebel, though it can't come in too safely.

Eelektross @ Assault Vest

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
- Volt Switch
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Drain Punch

While they unfortunately do not share an egg group, Scarf Dod and Eel still make a good offensive pair imo. Dodrio, being as frail as it is, really appreciates a slow pivot in the form of Eel that can bring it in safely while weakening the foe with a strong Volt Switch and can take care of physical walls like Regirock and Mudsdale that otherwise give Dodrio trouble, and can also switch in on special attacks that Dodrio cannot afford to absorb. The pivot chip eases Dodrio's task of cleaning, allowing Scarf to take precedence over harder-hitting sets for added role compression.

dodrio scarf is strong due to his brave bird spamming, this kang can easily lure all aggron, snowslah, regirock, and flying resist. Normal spam is strong as well, so I love use this core

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Atk / 212 Def
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Bulk Up / Toxic

Since our beloved Birberus can have a hard time taking down the rocks and steels (Regirock, Aggron, Lycanroc, Carracosta, Alolaslash, etc), Gurdurr can not only come in on these said issues, it can dispose of them at the same time and leave more room for Dodrio to sweep late-game. Granted, Dodrio can handle these issues with Jump Kick, but the margin of error is very slim since it's not STAB and not the best power to be hitting with.

While Gurdurr deals with those mons, Dodrio deals with stuff like Victreebel, Lurantis, Scyther, Tangela, and Roselia.

Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Shadow Ball
- Water Spout
- Hydro Pump

So this is interesting, because I've actually used this combination before. Z-fly Dodrio is an formidable breaker/late game sweeper, with its excellent speed tier, great attack stat, and its ability to boost its damage output even higher with Swords Dance. The one thing it fears: rock (and to a lesser extent, steel) types that wall its stabs. It's normally recommended to run Jump Kick to break through these checks after prior damage, but by pairing Dodrio with one of the hardest hitting special water attackers in the tier, Jellicent, Dodrio can afford to run priority instead. Shadow Ball also allows it to hit the random Honedge or smack the majority of the tier for neutral damage. Ice Beam can however be run in its place,
