Congrats to yogi for winning this week with his SubToxic Oricorio-Pom-Pom! Your submission will be added to the archives.

This week's subject is...

175019

Hitmonchan! Its nice typing, special bulk, and movepool make it a decent blanket check to special attackers and rapid spinner. Mach Punch allows it to revenge kill threats such as Jynx, Lycanroc, and boosted Omastar while multiple coverage options allow it to hit spinblockers such as Froslass and Jellicent. Its movepool is still largely underexplored, and, when combined with its typing, bulk, and utility options, could give it many other potential sets. Have fun and good luck!

CB Chan is a rarity nowadays but man is it a threat lategame with proper chip with that juicy Iron First boosted Mach Punch. Close Combat in general is also rewarding with how it punishes mons like Victreebel expecting a weak Drain Punch.

Reversing bulky Agility throat chop

Hitmonchan (M) @ Darkinium Z /black glasses/Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 56 HP / 252 Atk / 200 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Throat Chop
- High Jump Kick
- Bulk Up

At first this was inspired by, "I hate froslass" and realized it will never be able to lead vs froslass, kill it, spin, AND not be complete set up bait without making reads or being some kind of foresight/sleep talk nonsense

It out speeds base 95+1 after agility by a point after a boost if needed

Only use glasses if using keen eye, cause You know how sick it'd be to see hitmonchan with sunglasses

I rather abuse dark coverage for a Z move and bait protects with hjk and just bulk up in their face and between hjk doing more than life orb, iron fist, drain punch and not dropping stats I think a niche for it is within the realm reason to use

Leftovers are just kind of sick and really makes things interesting as far as them worrying about half health when they should worry about their throats and boosts

Switch in on their bad plays or use parting shot, I like hiding sets as much as possible

Hitmonchan @ Iapapa Berry
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Toxic
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Rapid Spin

This set is a different take on the Rapid Spin set Hitmonchan usually runs. Toxic is used in the coverage slot to punish spinblockers as well as other checks and counters it has. Pokemon like Oricorio Pom-Pom, Quagsire, Sableye, Froslass and more despise being Toxiced as greatly inhibits their ability to check and most importantly, spinblock Hitmonchan forever. The investment can be altered depending on your team, but this spread, in particular, shines in its abilty to outspeed Adamant Stoutland. Its a pokemon that can stress me out when I'm building, which is why I favor this investment. The item is to give Hitmonchan more longevity without having to rely on Drain Punch.

Credits to gum for the spread btw

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature

- Rapid Spin / Thunder Punch / Close Combat / Toxic

Scarf Chan actually surprised me when I thought it up for this. Retains decent offensive power even without a Life Orb, and has a ton of surprise factor, beating out would be checks like Froslass, non-Scarf Scyther, the Oricorios, and even beating Alolan Persian if it thinks it can tank one and pivot out with Parting Shot. Even with an Adamant nature, Scarf Chan hits a nice 376 Speed, meaning it can OHKO Froslass, Dodrio, and max HP Oricorios and Scythers after Stealth Rocks with Stone Edge, 2HKO Alolan Persian and a lot of other stuff that just makes it a real nice surprise vs offense teams.

Last moveslot I left pretty open since with the added speed you don't really need Mach Punch (but can still use it if you'd like). Rapid Spin would be likely the best option but since you don't want to be choice locked into it, you can add another spinner and use Tpunch for boltbeam coverage, use CC for an absolute nuke that ensures more OHKOs, or Toxic just to cripple stuff coming in to check you.

Sub Toxic Hitmonchan, to really annoy fighting resists and immunes, such as Sab, Mespirit, and Spiritomb, as well as cripples Quagsire for teammates. Speed is enough for non speed boosting nature skunk, with the rest of the EVs in spdef. Bulk Up can be used to act as some sort of worse knock off vincune, which also allows you to somewhat 1v1 things like physical defog skunk, tangela, as well as mudsdale. Throat Chop is an alternative if you don't want to use Bulk Up, which also allows you to not be walled by Haunter.

Reserving Z-Thunder Punch

Hitmonchan (M) @ Electrium Z
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Bulk Up

Lures in Oricorio Pom Pom and also Oricorio Sensu with a strong Gigavolt Havoc coming from Hitmonchan.
Is able to get rid off the former after +1 due to Bulk Up when it tries to come in, after Stealth Rocks it is a guaranteed OHKO - the letter gets OHKO even without Rocks or some prior damage.
Also Jellicent and Articuno get hit hard by it after a +1 and Articuno is forced to Roost but Mach Punch will KO it even w/o Stealth Rocks damage.

Calcs:
+1 due to Bulk Up
+1 252+ Atk Hitmonchan Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 286-337 (81 - 95.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 138-162 (39 - 45.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Mach Punch vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 74-87 (20.9 - 24.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 184-217 (52.1 - 61.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 168 Def Oricorio-Sensu: 302-356 (85.3 - 100.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Oricorio-Sensu: 374-440 (128.5 - 151.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 224+ Def Jellicent: 258-304 (63.8 - 75.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Articuno: 208-246 (64.7 - 76.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
into
+1 252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Mach Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Articuno: 111-132 (34.5 - 41.1%) -- 60.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Hitmonchan @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Drain Punch / Rapid Spin
- Thunder Punch
This is Chan doing its best impersonation of a Breloom. Iron Fist-boosted Focus Punch (180 BP!) is one of the most terrifying moves in the metagame, nailing a guaranteed OHKO on Skuntank, Stoutland, bulky Persian-A, Guzzlord, opposing Hitmonchan and Lilligant most other mons that don't resist Fighting, roll-OHKOing most SIlvally variants, Type: Null, Raichu-A, Eelektross and bulky Lanturn, and knocking very large chunks of HP off Mudsdale, Regirock, Articuno and Quagsire. Rapid Spin can be used for role compression, although Drain Punch's aide to recovery is generally more benefitting to the set. Thunder Punch hits most Flying- and Ghost-types that don't mind taking a 180-BP Focus Punch straight to their face. 128 HP investment allows rounded Leftovers recovery + 1 extra HP for guaranteeing the ability to set 5 unsuccessful Substitutes in a row from full HP.

Z-Sunny Day Hitmonchan

Hitmonchan @ Firium-Z
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 8 Def / 248 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Sunny Day

General idea

This Hitmonchan is designed to be a "fast" cleaner with the aid of Iron Fist and the +1 Spe boost provided by a Z-Sunny Day.
This Hitmonchan reaches 275 Spe, thus outspeeding Jolly Absol by two points.
Drain Punch is the chosen STAB used to regain HP throughout the match which is nice to take some hits before being revenge killed.
Fire Punch is here for further coverage, especially with the Sun up.
Thunderpunch is here for coverage.

The Firium Z can be used in 2 ways:
(1) to boost once Fire Punch, even though you lose the Iron Fist boost;
(2) mainly to power-up Sunny Day (for the +1 Spe boost).
Sunny Day allows this Hitmonchan to be the nightmare of Swanna (Hurricane with 50% accuracy), bar Scald's burn.

Calcs:
252 Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Fire Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Pinsir in Sun: 254-300 (93.7 - 110.7%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swanna: 496-584 (170.4 - 200.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO (if the Sun is already up, Swanna must waste a turn to use Rain Dance)
252 Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jynx: 280-330 (103.3 - 121.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO (if Jynx isn't Scarfed)
252 Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Scyther in Sun: 204-242 (59.4 - 70.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (in this case SRocks save your day)

Team(mates) support
SR is always a good thing when you have a cleaner on your side. Generally speaking, you need to weaken the opposite team a little.

Hitmonchan @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Atk / 208 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Agility
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Throat Chop / Thunder Punch

As a gimmicky lategame cleaner, chan works surprisingly well with this set. The shown spread lets chan outspeed the entire meta at +2, and the combination of cc and stone edge provides pretty good coverage. This chan is rather weak to priority, but the ability inner focus over iron fist keeps kanga from abusing it too hard and the fightinium z gives it a one time evasion of the cc stat drops. Thunder punch or other coverage moves are also solid options for the last moveslot if you're scared of the random colbur like I am. The main teammate for this chan would definitely be an offensive lass as it provides spikes support to help boost chan's occasionally underwhelming offense and provides another answer to bulky psychic and ghost types that try to stand in his way.

Foresight is a nice tech as it allows Hitmonchan to Rapid Spin / Drain Punch on Ghost-types like Sableye and Froslass, which would otherwise wall it. This is a pretty similar concept to the Toxic set one, but it sacrifices the ability to cripple stuff like Oricorio-E and Mesprit at the cost of threatening Ghost-types more effectively. Iapapa Berry gives it a nice one time recovery while Lum Berry means that you beat Lass and Sableye more effectively. The EVs spread is pretty customizable but I like this one as it means it survives Guzzlord's Z- / Specs Draco after one layer of Spikes while outspeeding threats like AV Lanturn. 8 EVs in Defense combined with the EVs in HP means that Aggron's Head Smash never K.Oes after Rocks, and the rest is placed in Attack.
