Pyroar @ Firium Z
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Fire Blast
- Hyper Voice
- Hidden Power Grass
Since the start of the 7th Generation, Pyroar has been a prevalent force in the PU metagame, boasting a fantastic STAB combination alongside blazing Speed and great Special Attack. Although both the Choice Specs and Choice Scarf sets are fantastic at breaking and sweeping teams, the Taunt set is able to lure many of the aforementioned sets' common checks and act as one of the most ruthless stallbreakers in the tier. Taunt allows Pyroar to beat or cripple standard switch-ins to it like Clefairy and Type: Null, preventing them from setting up or healing so Pyroar can easily whittle them down; this has a knock-on effect to teambuilding, as teams can no longer rely on just defensive Fire-type checks. Pyroar also has the essence of surprise, as it's almost impossible to differentiate the Firium Z Taunt set from the Choice Scarf set, allowing it to lure in checks like Gastrodon and Carracosta and easily break past them, making the Taunt set very difficult to predict at Team Preview. Even though Pyroar has a plethora of merits, it can fail to break Pokemon like Regirock and Lanturn, requiring support from Fighting- and Grass-types like Hitmonchan and Lilligant, with Pyroar being able to deal with their common checks in Weezing and Oricorio-G.
