Pyukumuku.pngPyukumuku.pngPyukumuku.png
[OVERVIEW]
Due to Pyukumuku's combination of good defensive stats, a pure Water typing, access to reliable recovery, and an amazing ability in Unaware, it's able to carve itself a decent niche by being an Unaware user with better overall bulk than both Quagsire and Clefable, allowing it to handle certain setup sweepers and offensive threats such as Mega Pinsir, Mega Swampert, and Manaphy better than the other two, while having useful and unique utility options in Block, Spite, and Soak that make the target unable to switch out, lower the target's PP, or allow it to poison Steel- and Poison-types. Aside from being an Unaware wall, Pyukumuku's other role is that of a bulky trapper that is able to either PP or Toxic stall passive targets such as Clefable, Gliscor, and Celesteela. This is incredibly useful for stall teams that want to remove a specific nuisance early on. However, Pyukumuku is a massive momentum drain, so much so that it basically requires that you use it exclusively on stall teams where its teammates can make up for its shortcomings. It also has a barren movepool, leaving it both one-dimensional and predictable. Due to not having any attacking options and only being able to inflict damage with Toxic, Pyukumuku is extremely passive and will lose to any Taunt users while being severely annoyed by Substitute users. Finally, even though it has a lot of unique features going for it, Pyukumuku can still fall behind the other Unaware users; Quagsire having actual attacking options prevents it from being complete Taunt bait, and it also checks Choice Band Tyranitar and provides a useful Electric immunity, while Clefable can support teammates with the use of Heal Bell and Wish.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Block is used to prevent the target from switching out, which can allow Pyukumuku to PP stall foes with Spite more effectively or force more Toxic damage to quickly rack up. Recover gives Pyukumuku reliable recovery and allows it to continuously check threats throughout the match. Spite, in tandem with Block, allows Pyukumuku to deplete the PP of Poison Heal and Magic Guard users and beat Manaphy. This especially helps against Calm Mind Clefable, which is otherwise a very annoying threat to any stall team that lacks Haze Toxapex. Rest is used to relieve Pyukumuku of status and beat other defensive walls such as Chansey and Toxapex, but, more importantly, it allows Pyukumuku to effectively outstall Mega Sableye if it ever gets trapped by Block. Taunt may also be used instead of Rest to accelerate the PP stalling. Alternatively, Toxic and Soak are also viable options instead of Spite and Taunt. Toxic is Pyukumuku's main and only real form of damage and, in conjunction with Soak, allows it to poison the majority of the tier, barring certain Magic Guard, Magic Bounce, and Poison Heal users. Soak allows Steel- and Poison-types to get hit by Toxic and can also remove the target's access to its STAB-boosted moves. One of the main advantages of using Toxic + Soak is being able to cripple common switch-ins such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu, making it more effective against offensive teams.

Set Details
========

A Bold nature with maximum HP and Defense investment allows Pyukumuku to more easily handle the large number of physical attackers in the tier. Unaware allows Pyukumuku to check setup sweepers by ignoring their boosts. Leftovers allows Pyukumuku to avoid important 2HKOs from strong offensive threats and gives it a small amount of passive recovery.

Usage Tips
========

It's best to preserve Pyukumuku's HP and keep it healthy enough to check setup sweepers such as Hawlucha and Manaphy and some wallbreakers such as Choice Band Zygarde and Mega Swampert. Use Recover liberally to keep Pyukumuku healthy and scout possible Z-Moves from wallbreakers such as Landorus-T, which might put it in range of regular attacks. Keep Pyukumuku away from common Taunt users such as Heatran to prevent it from getting crippled. Use Block when you suspect the opponent to stay in with a trappable target, such as against Clefable if Pyukumuku is running Spite. If using the Soak + Toxic variant, try not to reveal Soak- against Steel and Poison-types such as Celesteela and Toxapex until you have trapped them with Block.

Team Options
========

Pyukumuku only fits on stall teams, so staples of the archetype are the best teammates. Mega Sableye is a good example here, as it can bounce back Taunt from Heatran and check non-Z-Move variants. Chansey is able to take on a large variety of powerful special attackers that can overwhelm Pyukumuku such as Choice Specs Ash-Greninja, Tapu Koko, and Mega Latios. It can also utilize Heal Bell to cure Pyukumuku of status. Zapdos is able to check an otherwise devastating stallbreaker in Mega Gyarados while also removing entry hazards that may cut into Pyukumuku's longevity. Physically defensive Tangrowth can also deal with Mega Gyarados, and with Hidden Power Fire or Sludge Bomb, it can deal with Kartana or Tapu Bulu, respectively, while also checking Substitute variants of Zygarde, which is otherwise able to take advantage of Pyukumuku and waste its PP or status it with Toxic. Hippowdon is able to soft check physical attackers that Pyukumuku cannot, such as Mega Mawile and Choice Band Tyranitar, while also providing a useful Electric immunity. Jirachi, while sometimes harder to fit on stall teams, is able to take on important threats in Tapu Lele and Kyurem-B and pass Wishes to Pyukumuku.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Innards Out, while less reliable than Unaware, can be used to force damage onto strong wallbreakers and thus remove them from the match. The moveset should be Toxic / Soak / Rest / Block with maximum HP investment, a Hasty nature, 0 IVs in Attack, Defense, and Special Defense, and an Aguav Berry, and it should be set to Level 96. This set maximizes Pyukumuku's HP while lowering its bulk as much as possible. Pyukumuku will end up with 301 HP, the same amount as Hoopa-U, which lets Innards Out OHKO it, and it also prevents Pyukumuku from getting 3HKOed by Seismic Toss. If the foe isn't able to OHKO Pyukumuku but takes over 75% of its health, the Aguav Berry heals 50% of its HP and puts it in range of the next attack, maximizing the effects of Innards Out. Gastro Acid over Block can be used to remove Poison Heal from Swords Dance Gliscor and Magic Guard from both Clefable and Reuniclus, but it's usually not worth losing an important move in Block, and Spite sets can still beat the aforementioned targets. Counter over Block is another possible option, allowing Pyukumuku to remove frighteningly strong physical wallbreakers such as Kartana, Mega Mawile, and Choice Band Hoopa-U in exchange for Pyukumuku's HP while not having to utilize Innards Out, but losing Block puts a damper on its PP and Toxic stalling capabilities.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users such as Heatran and Protean Greninja are able to completely shut down Pyukumuku and stop it from utilizing any of its moves.

**Substitute Users**: Substitute users such as Zygarde are able to bypass Pyukumuku's only form of damage and become unaffected by Block, but without Toxic or Toxic Spikes on the field, Zygarde will end up in a PP stall war against Soak + Toxic variants. Spite variants will beat Zygarde, however.

**Mega Gyarados**: Mega Gyarados is able to utilize both Taunt and Substitute, and unlike Zygarde, Substitute variants are able to easily break past Pyukumuku due to Mold Breaker ignoring Unaware.

**Electric-types**: Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Zapdos are able to switch into Pyukumuku and force it out, and both boast reliable recovery in Roost, allowing them to mitigate Toxic damage.

**Grass-types**: Offensive Grass-types such as Kartana and Tapu Bulu are able to overpower Pyukumuku using their super effective STAB moves.

**Powerful Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers such as Tapu Lele, Kyurem-B, Hoopa-U, and Mega Heracross are able to overpower Pyukumuku and easily 2HKO it.

Don't consider this a QC check, I haven't really used Unaware Pyukumuku stall.

QC agreed that Soak should be slashed with Taunt, and that Toxic should be slashed with Spite. You use Soak with Toxic, and Taunt with Spite.

I'd like for you to mention Innards Out Pykumuku in Other Options, while definitely not great, it is definitely usable.

Also, try to divide this in more bullets because it looks like this has already been written up.

Reorder moves:
move 1: Block
move 2: Recover
move 3: Spite / Soak
move 4: Rest / Taunt / Toxic

Spite > Soak Toxic for CM clef so mention Clefable directly under the Spite bullet point. Rest > Taunt for avoiding status and helping in the stall v stall matchup if your Block gets bounced by Mega Sableye letting you play around its status and pp stall it better, make sure to remove this from OO once you shift it to the main set

Explain how to use Block in Usage Tips, and add in bits about Soak and Spite

Mention that Physdef Tangrowth also helps versus Mega Gyarados in Team Options

Nice work! qc 1/3

did all this

[Overview]
while having useful and unique utility optons in Soak, Spite, and Block.
  • Expand on this a bit more. Explain to newer players what's Pyukumuku's role in trapping stuff and what not! Also mention bulk somewhere in overview.

barring certain Magic Guard and Magic Bounce users.
  • Poison Heal here too.
Soak can also remove the target's access to its STAB.
  • And lets Poison- and Steel-types get poisoned.
[Team Options]
  • Talk about Hippowdon too, soft checks strong physical attackers Pyukumuku can't handle like Mega Mawile and Tyranitar.
[Checks & Counters]
**Powerful Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers such as Tapu Lele, Kyurem-B, and Hoopa-U are able to stretch the limit of Pyukumuku's bulk and can pick up easy 2HKOs against Pyukumuku.
  • Mega Heracross here too!
Excellent work! QC 2/3

Soak, Spite, and Block that allow it to status Steel and Poison-types, lower the target's PP, or make the target unable to switch out.
minor nitpick but make sure to rearrange this to match the change in the slashes
If using the Soak and Toxic variant, use Soak against Steel and Poison-types such as Celesteela and Toxapex to remove the opponent's Toxic immunity.
is this really a tip? I’d just mention something like not revealing its the soak variant before u get an opportunity to trap steela/pex, using soak on stuff u cant toxic is kinda self explanatory

good job 3/3
