PU Quagsire (3/3) (2/2)

[OVERVIEW]

Quagsire is a solid defensive wall for balance and stall teams with its passable defenses, great typing, access to reliable recovery, and excellent ability in Unaware. Its bulk and typing enable Quagsire to check the tier's bigger threats, such as Aggron, Lycanroc, and Togedemaru, while Unaware bolsters great matchups against the tier’s multitude of boosting threats such as Gurdurr and Power-Up Punch Kangaskhan. Quagsire can also spread status through Scald burns or Toxic, allowing it to cripple multiple targets throughout a game. It can also run Curse, which lets it function as a bulky late-game sweeper and allows Quagsire to be more immediately threatening. However, Quagsire has a glaring quadruple weakness to Grass and cannot hit many Grass-types such as Alolan Exeggutor and Lurantis for significant damage. This also makes switching into Pokemon with Grass-type coverage like Manectric or Alolan Raichu potentially dangerous for Quagsire. Quagsire variants without Curse can also be passive outside of annoying things with status, having fairly average damage output and constantly being forced to used Recover. Quagsire also dislikes various forms of residual damage such as status and entry hazards, as they hamper its ability to wall threats. Many special wallbreakers pack the strength to break through Quagsire's more lacking special bulk, leaving it open to Pokemon such as Aurorus, Swanna, and Eelektross. Quagsire also receives competition from Pyukumuku as an Unaware wall, but it differentiates itself by having attacking moves and generally a broader movepool, meaning that Quagsire does not automatically fold to Taunt or Substitute.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Waterfall is the preferred option when combined with Curse to take advantage of the Attack boosts more efficiently. Scald gives Quagsire a way to cripple physical attackers with a possible burn, although it's weak in terms of damage output. Curse turns Quagsire into a bulky late-game sweeper and is handy to beat Pokemon like Clefairy or Crabominable. Toxic is an option to more effectively wear down Pokemon Quagsire can outlast, such as Kangaskhan and Scyther. Toxic is also effective at whittling down many of Quagsire's checks such as Lilligant, Eelektross, and Jellicent, deterring them from switching in for free.

Set Details
========

An Impish nature is optimal with the Curse variant alongside Waterfall, as the Special Attack stat is not used. However, Relaxed is the preferred option when opting for Scald. Unaware is key to Quagsire's success, giving it a much better matchup against boosting Pokemon such as Carracosta, Scyther, Alolan Sandslash, and Bulk Up Floatzel.

Usage Tips
========

Prioritize keeping Quagsire healthy with Recover when necessary so that it can keep up with the Pokemon it checks in the long run. Quagsire is capable of blocking Volt Switch from Lanturn and Manectric, although it should be mindful of Hidden Power Grass. Be wary of a potential Toxic from Pokemon Quagsire is inclined to switch into, such as Mudsdale, Togedemaru, and Alolan Dugtrio, as getting badly poisoned can hinder Quagsire from doing its job later in the game. If utilizing the Curse variant, aiming to pressure checks such as Lilligant and Jellicent is key for the set to function well, as otherwise it mostly only switches into other threats without gaining much momentum. Curse can be used once its checks are gone to become a wincon and to better handle physical attackers like Dodrio and Kangaskhan. Variants of Quagsire with Toxic and Scald can focus on spreading status to cripple the opposing team and potentially its own checks to make them easier to handle for its teammates.

Team Options
========

Quagsire needs solid Grass-type answers to fall back on to deal with its weakness; Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Alolan Sandslash, Articuno, and Roselia are reliable options, while Quagsire checks Rock-types, Steel-types, and some Electric-types for them. Clefairy, Type: Null, and Assault Vest Crabominable are special sponges capable of aiding Quagsire's mediocre special bulk by pivoting into special breakers like Lilligant, Swanna, and Aurorus. Quagsire is not the biggest fan of Spikes or Toxic Spikes being present on the field, so entry hazard removers such as Altaria and Skuntank, with the latter being able to instantaneously absorb Toxic Spikes, can relieve pressure whenever Quagsire has to switch in. Status absorbers or clerics on bulkier teams can assist in healing or taking Toxic status for Quagsire, so Altaria and Audino are both good fits for that purpose. Quagsire is a very solid choice for many stall teams, due to its ability to check many setup Pokemon like Kabutops, Lycanroc, and Floatzel, along with the teammates bringing the aforementioned support with Pokemon like Audino and Articuno.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Yawn can be used over Toxic to threaten sleep on many of Quagsire's checks, thus possibly forcing a switch, but it is more situational and getting a simple Toxic can be a more reliable way to hinder something. Encore can also lock opposing Pokemon into an unfavorable attack, which can allow Quagsire's team to pivot around certain threats much safer. However, Quagsire is forced to predict when using it, as it will likely be moving after the foe, thus making it inconsistent compared to Toxic. Water Absorb comes with the massive opportunity cost of not using Unaware, but can be potentially valuable for teams which need a pivot into a specific set of attackers such as Jellicent and Togedemaru.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-type attacks**: Many Grass-type Pokemon such as Lilligant, Alolan Exeggutor, and Abomasnow can exploit Quagsire's only type weakness in Grass very easily, which can give them a free turn to set up Quiver Dance or Trick Room, respectively. They resist both of Quagsire's STAB attacks and don't mind Scald burns, so the best thing Quagsire can do in return is discourage them with Toxic. Pokemon with Grass-type coverage such as Eelektross and Alolan Raichu can also threaten Quagsire similarly.

**Status**: One of the things that annoys Quagsire the most is status, most notably Toxic. Getting hit by a Toxic or two layers of Toxic Spikes greatly hinders Quagsire’s ability to wall the threats it needs to, and it ends up losing to many Pokemon that are capable of outlasting it.

**Taunt and Substitute**: Quagsire is annoyed by Taunt users such as Froslass and Jellicent because they prevent Quagsire from using wearing things down with Toxic, and don’t allow it to Recover. Substitute users such as Oricorio-G and Mesprit can potentially wall out and wear down Quagsire, especially if using Scald, as it lacks the power to break their Substitutes, as well as not being able to Toxic them as long as they are behind a Substitute.

**Special Breakers**: Quagsire’s special bulk is quite lacking in comparison to its physical bulk, and it does not help that Quagsire invites in some of the more threatening special attackers like Drampa, Choice Specs Jellicent, and Mesprit with nothing to threaten them immediately with and still does not enjoy matchups against Omastar and Aurorus.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Quagsire is a solid defensive wall for balance and stall teams with its passable bulk, great typing, access to reliable recovery, and excellent ability in Unaware.
  • The bulk and typing enables Quagsire to check the tier’s most threatening Rock-types (odd specification, since it doesnt just wall rock mons)in Aggron and Lycanroc, along with Electric-types (again odd specification)such as Togedemaru and Manectric,(this first part can honestly just be simplified down to 'bulk and typing lets it wall stuff like (insert mons here))while Unaware bolsters great match-ups against the tier’s host of boosting threats such as Gurdurr and Power up Punch Kangaskhan.
  • Quagsire can also spread status through Scald burns or Toxic, allowing it to cripple multiple targets throughout a game.(doesnt seem much like an overview point, can remove)
  • Although it receives competition from Pyukumuku as an Unaware wall, Quagsire differentiates itself by having attacking moves and generally a broader movepool, meaning that Quagsire does not automatically fold to Taunt or Substitute.(this might just be a personal preference, but competition generally goes at the end, unless its an unviable mon that is majorly outclassed by stuff)
  • However, Quagsire has a glaring quad-weakness to grass and cannot hit many of the Grass-types for significant damage, (also makes it harder to beat stuff like manectric cuz coverage)as well as overall being passive as a wall, which can give room for many threatening wallbreakers such as Drampa and Oricorio-G.(this is combining two different points in one sentence, also u mention wallbreakers later on)
  • Similarly to a number of other defensive pokemon(kinda a pointless detail), Quagsire dislikes various forms of residual damage such as status and hazards, as they hamper its ability to wall threats.
  • Many special wallbreakers pack the strength to break through Quagsire’s more lacking special bulk, leaving it open to pokemon such as Aurorus, Swanna, and Combusken.
  • Despite its multiple flaws, Quagsire remains a dependable choice due to how much it can wall in the metagame and holds clear niches over its competition through movepool, typing, or Unaware.(doesnt add much, so remove)

Moves
========
  • Earthquake functions as a consistent STAB attack that allows Quagsire to threaten Pokemon like Lanturn and Skuntank, as well as dealing solid damage against Clefairy and Silvally-Dragon.
  • Waterfall is the prefered(preferred) option when combined with Curse to abuse (abuse is a mean word, use take advantage)the Attack boosts more efficiently.
  • However, Scald is a useful utility attack for threatening to burn physical attackers such as Scyther, Hitmonchan, and Dodrio, as well as chipping Ground-immunities like Mesprit or Weezing.
  • Recover is a key component of Quagsire’s longevity, giving it reliable recovery and longevity.(this seems a little dragged out)
  • Curse turns Quagsire into a wincon, and is handy to out-damage Pokemon like Clefairy or Crabominable.
  • Toxic is an effective option to whittle down many of Quagsire’s checks such as Lilligant, Eelektross, and defensive Jellicent, deterring them from switching in for free.(its main goal is to whittle mons down so it can beat them 1v1, whittling checks is just an extra)
Set Details
========
  • Maximum investment into HP and Defense enables Quagsire to become a good switch-in against Aggron, Golurk, and Fighting-types like Hitmonchan or Primeape.(With the new format, this kinda info isnt needed)
  • Impish is optimal with the Curse variant alongside Waterfall, as the Special Attack stat is not used.
  • However, Relaxed is the prefered option when opting for Scald, as to not weaken its already poor damage output, while hindering a stat that is already underwhelming.(Combine this and the last bullet point)
  • Leftovers grants it passive recovery, giving Quagsire more breathing room to spread status or set up while not being forced to click Recover as often to stay healthy.
  • Unaware is key to Quagsire’s success, giving it a much better matchup against boosting Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Scyther, Alolan Sandslash, and Bulk Up Floatzel.
Usage Tips
========
  • Quagsire is generally a very simple Pokemon to use.(this doesnt really add much, just remove) Click STAB moves to threaten out Pokemon you beat (thats like every mon lol)and Recover when necessary so that it can keep up with the Pokemon it checks in the long run.
  • Quagsire is capable of regaining some momentum against certain revenge killers like Togedemaru, Lycanroc, and Kangaskhan,(idk what ur saying here) while also blocking Volt Switch from Lanturn and Manectric, although be mindfull(mindful) of Hidden Power Grass.
  • Be wary of a potential Toxic from Pokemon Quagsire is inclined to switch into, such as Mudsdale, Lanturn(specify bulky), or Alolan Dugtrio, as getting badly poisoned can possibly keep Quagsire from doing its job later in the game.
  • If utilizing the Curse variant, aiming to pressure checks such as Lilligant or Jellicent can force your opponent to play more conservatively with their checks.(talk about when u can use curse)
  • Toxic variants of Quagsire can focus on spreading status to cripple the opposing team and potentially its own checks to make them easier to handle for its teammates.
Team Options
========
  • Quagsire needs solid Grass-resists to fall back on to deal with one of its most obvious weaknesses, so Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Alolan Sandslash, and Articuno are reliable Grass checks and synergize well with Quagsire typing-wise.
  • Hitmonchan, Type: Null, and Assault Vest Crabominable are special sponges capable of aiding Quagsire’s mediocre special bulk by pivoting into special breakers like Silvally-Dragon, Swanna, or Aurorus.(I wouldnt wanna switch chan into a swanna)
  • Status absorbers or clerics can assist in healing or taking Toxic status for Quagsire, so Altaria, Clefairy, and especially Audino, who is capable of forming a simple stall core, are all solid fits for that purpose.(talk more about stall)
  • Quagsire is not the biggest fan of Spikes being present on the field as a defensive pokemon, so hazard removal such as Altaria or Skuntank, who can also instantaneously absorb Toxic Spikes, can relieve pressure whenever Quagsire has to switch into a threat.

=============
  • Various support options can be subbed in over Toxic, such as Yawn to threaten sleep on many of Quagsire’s checks, thus possibly forcing a switch, but it is more situational and getting a simple Toxic can be a more reliable way to hinder something.
  • Encore can also lock opponents into an unfavorable attack, which can allow Quagsire’s team to pivot around certain threats much safer. However, this can sometimes backfire if you do not get the prediction correctly, as Quagsire will likely be moving second in the turn.(this wouldnt really backfire cuz either way ur locking ur opponent into something)
  • A Choice Band set can be utilized with Earthquake, Waterfall, Ice Punch, and Toxic with a spread of 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe to speed creep Type: Null. This takes advantage of its good STABs and can use Ice Punch to lure many of the Grass-types that can abuse (abuse is still a mean word, use take advantage)Quagsire. This set has drawbacks as a dedicated breaker though, due to a poor speed tier, and cannot wall threats nearly as well as the standard defensive set.(Also still has kinda underwhelming power)

Even a regular poison overtakes Leftovers recovery and burn cancels it out.(Could use some examples of mons)

**Taunt/(should say and)Substitute**: Although Quagsire may have actual damaging STAB moves unlike Pyukumuku(not the place to make a comparison like this), it still remains annoyed by Taunt users such as Froslass and Jellicent because they prevent Quagsire from using Recover. Substitute users such as Oricorio-G and Mesprit can potentially wall out and wear down Quagsire, especially if using Scald, as it lacks the power to break their Substitutes.(also makes Toxic fail)

**Special Breakers**: Quagsire’s special bulk is quite lacking in comparison to its physical bulk, and it does not help that Quagsire invites in some of the more threatening special attackers like Drampa, Choice Specs Jellicent, and Mesprit into the battle with nothing to threaten them immediately with, while still not enjoying matchups against Omastar and special Skuntank(beats skunk 1v1 unless hp grass, in which that would be a thing for the grass mons section).

Currently analyses are cutting down on obvious stuff in Moves, Set Details, etc. I would take down the descriptions for EQ, Scald, and Recover at the very least, but whoever does the last check might choose to remove more as they see fit.

Set Details
========
  • An Impish nature is optimal with the Curse variant alongside Waterfall, as the Special Attack stat is not used. However, Relaxed is the prefered option when opting for Scald, as to not weaken its already poor damage output, while hindering a stat that is already underwhelming.
  • Leftovers grants it passive recovery, giving Quagsire more breathing room to spread status or set up while not being forced to click Recover as often to stay healthy.
  • Unaware is key to Quagsire’s success, giving it a much better matchup against boosting Pokemon such as Carracosta, Scyther, Alolan Sandslash, and Bulk Up Floatzel.
Leftovers point is self-explanatory and should go.

Usage Tips
========
  • Prioritize staying healthy with Recover when necessary so that it can keep up with the Pokemon it checks in the long run.
  • Quagsire is capable of blocking Volt Switch from Lanturn and Manectric, although be mindful of Hidden Power Grass.
  • Be wary of a potential Toxic from Pokemon Quagsire is inclined to switch into, such as Mudsdale, Togedemaru, or Alolan Dugtrio, as getting badly poisoned can possibly keep Quagsire from doing its job later in the game.
  • If utilizing the Curse variant, aiming to pressure checks such as Lilligant or Jellicent can force your opponent to play more conservatively with their checks. Curse can be used once its checks are gone to become a wincon and to better handle physical attackers like Dodrio and Kangaskhan. I would emphasize more that Quagsire really needs checks like the ones you mentioned off the field before it starts setting up. You touch on it a bit but I feel it's a little underexaggerated, especially since the two you mentioned are pretty hard stops.
  • Toxic and Scald, since they're usually if not always being used alongside each other variants of Quagsire can focus on spreading status to cripple the opposing team and potentially its own checks to make them easier to handle for its teammates.
Team Options
========
  • Quagsire needs solid Grass-resists to fall back on to deal with one of its worse weaknesses, so Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Alolan Sandslash, and Articuno are reliable Grass checks and synergize well with Quagsire. What does Quagsire offer back to these Pokemon?
  • Clefairy, Type: Null, and Assault Vest Crabominable are special sponges capable of aiding Quagsire’s mediocre special bulk by pivoting into special breakers like Silvally-Dragon, Swanna, or Aurorus.
  • Quagsire is not the biggest fan of Spikes or Toxic Spikes being present on the field as a defensive pokemon I don't think "as a defensive Pokemon" is necessary, so hazard removal such as Altaria or Skuntank, who can also instantaneously absorb Toxic Spikes specify that Skuntank is the one who is able to do this, because with the current wording the reader may think Altaria can do it as well, can relieve pressure whenever Quagsire has to switch into a threat.
  • Status absorbers or clerics can assist in healing or taking Toxic status for Quagsire, so Altaria, Clefairy, and especially Audino are all solid fits for that purpose. I would either add on this point to or after the stall bullet, because on a regular balance team I'm not sure if I would be using clerics. Clefairy should also be dropped from there.
  • Quagsire is a very solid choice for many stall teams, due to checking many set up Pokemon like Kabutops, Lycanroc, and Floatzel, along with the teammates bringing the after-mentioned support with teammates like Audino and Articuno.

This point may as well be dedicated to Yawn since no other support options at mentioned.
  • Encore can also lock opponents into an unfavorable attack, which can allow Quagsire’s team to pivot around certain threats much safer. However, Quagsire is forced to predict when using it, as it will likely be moving second in the turn. Sort of situational/less consistent than other moves as well.
  • A Choice Band set can be utilized with Earthquake, Waterfall, Ice Punch, and Toxic with a spread of 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe to speed creep Type: Null. This takes advantage of its good STABs and can use Ice Punch to lure many of the Grass-types that can take advantage of Quagsire. This set has drawbacks as a dedicated breaker though, due to a poor speed tier, underwhelming power, being outclassed by other offensive Water-types such as Floatzel, and cannot wall threats nearly as well as the standard defensive set. Remove this, bad meme
Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Many Grass-type Pokemon such as Lilligant, Alolan Exeggutor, or Abomasnow can exploit Quagsire’s only type weakness in Grass very easily. Being able to force Quagsire out can give them a free turn to set up Quiver Dance, Trick Room, or Swords Dance respectively. They resist both STAB attacks and don’t mind Scald burns, with the best thing Quagsire can do in return is discourage them with Toxic. Pokemon with Grass-type coverage such as Eelektross can also threaten Quagsire similarly. Since this also encompasses Grass-type coverage, change the name of this section to something along the lines of "Grass-types and Grass-type coverage"

**Status**: One of the things that annoys Quagsire the most is status, most notably Toxic. Getting hit by a Toxic or two layers of Toxic Spikes greatly hinders Quagsire’s ability to wall the threats it needs to and ends up losing to many pokemon that are capable to outlasting it. Even a regular poison overtakes Leftovers recovery and burn cancels it out. I think the last sentence is a bit unnecessary.

**Special Breakers**: Quagsire’s special bulk is quite lacking in comparison to its physical bulk, and it does not help that Quagsire invites in some of the more threatening special attackers like Drampa, Choice Specs Jellicent, and Mesprit into the battle with nothing to threaten them immediately with, while still not enjoying matchups against Omastar and Aurorus.

[OVERVIEW]

Quagsire is a solid defensive wall for balance and stall teams with its passable bulk, great typing, access to reliable recovery, and excellent ability in Unaware. The bulk and typing enables Quagsire to check the tier’s bigger threats, such as Aggron, Lycanroc, and Togedemaru, while Unaware bolsters great match-ups against the tier’s host of boosting threats such as Gurdurr and Power up Punch Kangaskhan. Quagsire can also spread status through Scald burns or Toxic, allowing it to cripple multiple targets throughout a game. It can also run a Curse variant, which can function as a wincon and allows Quagsire to be more immediately threatening. However, Quagsire has a glaring quad-weakness to Grass and cannot hit many of the Grass-types such as Alolan Exeggutor or Lurantis for significant damage. This also makes switching into Pokemon with Grass-type coverage like Manectric or Alolan Raichu potentially dangerous for Quagsire. Quagsire variants without Curse can also be passive outside of annoying things with status, with fairly average damage output and being forced to used Recover. Quagsire also dislikes various forms of residual damage such as status and hazards, as they hamper its ability to wall threats. Many special wallbreakers pack the strength to break through Quagsire’s more lacking special bulk, leaving it open to Pokemon such as Aurorus, Swanna, and Eelektross. Quagsire also receives competition from Pyukumuku as an Unaware wall, but differentiates itself by having attacking moves and generally a broader movepool, meaning that Quagsire does not automatically fold to Taunt or Substitute.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Waterfall is the preferred option when combined with Curse to take advantage of the Attack boosts more efficiently. Curse turns Quagsire into a wincon, and is handy to beat Pokemon like Clefairy or Crabominable. Toxic is an option to more effectively wear down Pokemon Quagsire can outlast, such as Kangaskhan and Scyther. Toxic is also effective at whittling down many of Quagsire’s checks such as Lilligant, Eelektross, and Jellicent, deterring them from switching in for free. Scald is also worth mention here, if we are mentioning toxic over curse

Set Details
========

An Impish nature is optimal with the Curse variant alongside Waterfall, as the Special Attack stat is not used. However, Relaxed is the prefered option when opting for Scald, as to not weaken its already poor damage output, while hindering a stat that is already underwhelming, that being Speed. Unaware is key to Quagsire’s success, giving it a much better matchup against boosting Pokemon such as Carracosta, Scyther, Alolan Sandslash, and Bulk Up Floatzel.

Usage Tips
========

Prioritize staying healthy with Recover when necessary so that it can keep up with the Pokemon it checks in the long run. Quagsire is capable of blocking Volt Switch from Lanturn and Manectric, although be mindful of Hidden Power Grass. Be wary of a potential Toxic from Pokemon Quagsire is inclined to switch into, such as Mudsdale, Togedemaru, or Alolan Dugtrio, as getting badly poisoned can possibly hinder Quagsire from doing its job later in the game. If utilizing the Curse variant, aiming to pressure checks such as Lilligant or Jellicent is key for the set to function well, as otherwise it mostly only switches into other threats without gaining much momentum.

========

Quagsire needs solid Grass-resists to fall back on to deal with one of its worse weaknesses, so Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Alolan Sandslash, and Articuno are reliable Grass checks and Quagsire offers a great check to Rock-types, Steel-types, and some Electric-types. Clefairy, Type: Null, and Assault Vest Crabominable are special sponges capable of aiding Quagsire’s mediocre special bulk by pivoting into special breakers like Silvally-Dragon, Swanna, or Aurorus (silvally dragon is a good example but i wouldnt necessarily put it in here since its a lot more niche than the other examples. at the very least, not as the first example). Quagsire is not the biggest fan of Spikes or Toxic Spikes being present on the field, so hazard removal such as Altaria or Skuntank, the ladder being able to instantaneously absorb Toxic Spikes, can relieve pressure whenever Quagsire has to switch into a threat. Status absorbers or clerics on bulkier teams can assist in healing or taking Toxic status for Quagsire, so Altaria and Audino are all good fits for that purpose. Quagsire is a very solid choice for many stall teams, due to checking many set up Pokemon like Kabutops, Lycanroc, and Floatzel, along with the teammates bringing the after-mentioned support with teammates like Audino and Articuno. i do think that roselia might be worth a mention in here, since it sponges grass hits and absorbs toxic spikes. a good partner, but a lot more niche than the others...so at best id put it somewhere in the middle of an example chain if at all

Encore can also lock opponents into an unfavorable attack, which can allow Quagsire’s team to pivot around certain threats much safer. However, Quagsire is forced to predict when using it, as it will likely be moving after the opponent, thus making Encore perform inconsistently compared to Toxic. GP but this sentence is worded oddly
