UU Raikou Revamp [GP 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Raikou's viability in the UU tier comes from the option of running Toxic and Protect paired with its Pressure ability to effectively wear down foes such as Hydreigon and Krookodile, as well as its potential to sweep teams with Calm Mind, two options that other Electric-types cannot offer as effectively; this ability to run two viable sets that require opponents to play around them differently also leaves it unpredictable. Raikou's great Speed tier allows it to outspeed some of the tier's biggest threats such as Infernape, Cobalion, and Terrakion. However, Raikou faces tough competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as an offensive Electric-type due to their superior Speed tiers, Manectric's far superior Special Attack, as well as Zeraora's ability to run a mixed set. Raikou must rely on Toxic stall, Calm Mind boosts, and Z-Moves to beat its common checks, whereas Manectric can 2HKO Hydreigon with Hidden Power Ice or hit Swampert with Hidden Power Grass. Zeraora is also able to make use of Grass Knot to hit Swampert, Close Combat to hit Hydreigon, and Knock Off to hit Latias. Raikou is also outclassed by Rotom-H as a defensive Electric-type, due to the latter's access to Defog to remove entry hazards and Levitate to answer some Ground-types. While Calm Mind does help Raikou boost its already respectable Special Attack and Special Defense, it is held back due to its inability to take physical attacks and come in easily to set up, so proper support is necessary. Raikou's pure Electric typing can also be very limiting due to the prevalence of Ground-types such as Gligar, Choice Scarf Krookodile, and Hippowdon in the current UU metagame.

Moves
========

Raikou's Pressure ability is paired well with Substitute and Protect to PP stall opposing Pokemon. Toxic is useful for chipping away at opposing Pokemon such as Latias, Hydreigon, and Hippowdon, while Protect + Substitute helps Raikou avoid taking damage.

Set Details
========

248 EVs maximize Raikou's HP in order to let it do its job of Toxic stalling and taking hits rather than dealing damage better, while also allowing it to come in on Stealth Rock for one extra turn. Leftovers is necessary in order to make back health lost by Substitute and allows Raikou to recover further on the turns it chooses to use Protect; this in turn allows it to take greater advantage of its Pressure ability.

Usage Tips
========

Substitute + Toxic Raikou cannot directly switch in due to its poor defensive stats. This limitation is compounded by its inability to come in on entry hazards due to the need to keep its health high. For this reason, it is best to bring in when the field is clear of hazards and preferably after a Pokemon faints, through double switching, or via VoltTurn support. Raikou also needs to keep its Leftovers for longevity throughout the game, so it is very important to not switch it in on a Trick from Togekiss or Knock Off from Pokemon such as Tentacruel and Empoleon. It's important to not allow Raikou to be hit by any status ailments, such as Toxic from Empoleon, in order to prevent it from being worn down. After getting a Toxic off on an opposing Pokemon, Raikou can use Substitute and Protect to stall PP, avoid being attacked while the opposing Pokemon takes residual damage, and gain back its own health with Leftovers. Substitute can be used on many Pokemon that are threatened out by Raikou, and Toxic is a useful move to punish Pokemon that think that they can safely switch into Raikou. Toxic is best used early in the game in order to wear down opposing Pokemon, such as Krookodile, with Substitute and Protect over the course of the battle. Protect is also helpful in scouting for moves, particularly from Pokemon like Choice Scarf Krookodile and Choice Scarf Hydreigon, while Substitute can be used to outplay status users and Pokemon such as Sucker Punch Bisharp.

Team Options
========

Toxic Raikou fits best on more defensive builds, such as semi-stall and balance. These teams are based on slower, more passive playing and will have good synergy with Raikou, since they can wall Pokemon that Raikou fears, such as Latias and Hippowdon, while taking advantage of Toxic to chip away at them. Raikou is easily crippled by status, so having clerics such as Blissey, Umbreon, and Florges on a team with it is very helpful. Toxic Spikes can be very irritating for Raikou, so having a Poison-type to absorb them is a good idea. Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Nidoqueen are all good options for this role. Entry hazards in general can make it difficult for Raikou to do its job, so hazard removers like Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Rotom-H are good support for Raikou. Grass-types such as Tsareena and Amoonguss are very good partners for Raikou due to the good synergy they share, with Raikou covering their weakness to Flying-types and the Grass-types covering Raikou's weaknesses to Ground-types such as Krookodile and Hippowdon. Tsareena, in particular, is a great teammate due to having access to Rapid Spin for hazard removal and U-turn to pivot safely out to Raikou. Ground-types such as Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoqueen completely wall Raikou, so Pokemon such as Chesnaught, bulky Moltres, Taunt Hydreigon, Celebi, and Starmie are great teammates to threaten these Ground-types. Having U-turn support to allow Raikou to pivot in without taking unnecessary damage is also helpful. Pokemon that can assist in this could be Infernape, Hydreigon, and Scizor. Spikes setters such as Klefki and Chesnaught as well as Stealth Rock users like Cobalion, Hippowdon, and Mega Steelix pair well with Raikou because many teams struggle dealing with Toxic while also being chipped at by hazards.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Calm Mind boosts Raikou's Special Attack and Special Defense, improving upon already strong base stats. Thunderbolt gives Raikou access to a powerful STAB move that allows it to 2HKO various relevant Pokemon such as Cobalion, Infernape, and maximum HP Scizor. Hidden Power Ice, on the other hand, can hit walls like Gligar for super effective damage. Shadow Ball is useful for hitting Latias, which could otherwise choose to Calm Mind alongside Raikou, and has useful neutral coverage especially against Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Mega Steelix. Ghostium Z turns Shadow Ball into a one-time Never-Ending Nightmare. Normalium Z allows Raikou to use Breakneck Blitz to do significant damage to Hippowdon and potentially knock it out at +1 after prior chip damage, as well as OHKO Hydreigon and do considerable damage to both Amoonguss and Chesnaught.

Set Details
========

Ghostium Z or Normalium Z are paired with the last moveslot in order to maximize damage output and allow Raikou to threaten Pokemon like Hippowdon, Mega Steelix, Amoonguss, and Chesnaught that it otherwise would not be able to touch. Pressure is also useful in chipping away at opposing Pokemon's PP and limiting their ability to deal with Raikou.

Usage Tips
========

It is best to avoid setting up early in the game when Raikou's checks, such as Hippowdon and Choice Scarf Krookodile are still healthy. Getting off chip damage for a setup sweep later is more productive and maximizes Raikou's chance for success. Remember that whatever walls Raikou will be dependent on the moves being run, so it could differ slightly between games. For instance, when running Shadow Ball, Hippowdon, Mega Steelix, and Swampert will rarely have to fear Raikou, but if Hyper Beam is run they will not be as problematic. On the other hand, running Hyper Beam will make it difficult for Raikou to break through Pokemon such as Latias, particularly when Latias is running Roost. It is important to not send Raikou out when there are entry hazards on the field in order for it to be able to take priority attacks such as Crawdaunt's Aqua Jet and Bisharp's Sucker Punch. Toxic Spikes, in particular, can severely decrease the threat level that Raikou possesses. Keeping Raikou healthy is also crucial because its low defensive stats already make it very difficult to set up. Raikou can be brought into the game on an aggressive double switch when you product that your opponent will bring in a Pokemon that Raikou will match up well against, such as Tentacruel or Togekiss. Raikou can also be brought in easily with support from a pivot so that it does not have to take unnecessary damage.

Team Options
========

Raikou mostly fits on offensive teams that are able to keep momentum and create openings for it to set up. Raikou requires pivoting and entry hazard support from its teammates for it to fulfill its potential. Hazard setters such as Klefki, Chesnaught, Tentacruel, and Gligar pair well with Raikou and, with their hazards up, allow Raikou to clean up much more easily. Chesnaught is also able to help with Raikou's Ground weakness, while Gligar can pivot out to Raikou safely with U-turn or weaken bulkier Pokemon with Toxic. Grass-types such as Tsareena and Amoonguss pair well with Raikou, as it threatens Flying-types while the Grass-types are able to cover its Ground weakness. To help Raikou come in without taking heavy damage, it is preferable to have VoltTurn support. A few Pokemon that can allow Raikou to pivot onto the playing field are Infernape, Cobalion, Scizor, and Hydreigon. Raikou has difficulty beating certain Ground-types such as Krookodile, Quagsire, and Mega Steelix, so having teammates that can switch into and remove these Ground-types is very helpful. Good options for answering Ground-types include Primarina, Celebi, Slowbro, and Chesnaught. Reliable, long-term hazard removers are good partners for Raikou in order to clear the field of anything that could hurt Raikou’s role as a late game cleaner. For this reason, spinners and Defog users such as Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Gligar are good choices. Fighting-types such as Terrakion, Cobalion, and Infernape are very useful, as they are able to pressure and take advantage of the bulky special walls like Toxic Blissey, Florges, and Umbreon that would otherwise wall Raikou.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Running Substitute in the fourth slot of the Calm Mind set along with Leftovers is also an option in order to punish passive Pokemon such as Amoonguss that will attempt to Spore or Toxic Raikou in the hopes of chipping it down with residual damage, as well as give Raikou greater longevity. Substitute also limits the number of hits Raikou must take, allows it to punish sacrifices, and pairs well with Pressure and Leftovers when chipping away at the opposing Pokemon's PP. Hidden Power Grass can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to help with beating troublesome walls such as Quagsire and Swampert that may otherwise be unfazed by Raikou. Lastly, Shuca Berry can be used in certain cases for offensive Raikou as a way of luring in aforementioned Ground-types such as Krookodile, as well as other Pokemon that threaten Raikou with Ground-type moves such as Mega Aerodactyl, which is OHKOed by Thunderbolt. While this item can help remove threats, it is very situational in its usefulness and leads to more difficulty in sweeping due to lacking the power that a Z-Move would offer.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Ground-types are Raikou's greatest weakness. Hippowdon and Mega Steelix rarely have to fear taking attacks from Raikou and can OHKO it with their STAB-boosted Earthquakes, which force Raikou out. Swampert, Gligar, and Quagsire are other Ground-type walls that can easily deal with Raikou as long as they scout the Hidden Power beforehand. Choice Scarf Krookodile is Raikou's best revenge killer and can Pursuit trap it if its health falls too low. Mega Steelix, Gligar, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen are all able to switch into and wall Toxic Raikou. On the other hand, Pokemon like Hippowdon, Swampert, and Quagsire must be wary of being hit by Toxic on the switch.

**Special Walls**: Blissey and Alolan Muk are able to eat up any attacks Raikou has and threaten it out with Toxic or Knock Off. Alolan Muk also has the option to Pursuit trap, which can be threatening when paired with Poison Touch. Amoonguss can put Raikou to sleep with Spore and has Clear Smog to eliminate status changes. Blissey can work around Raikou's Toxic with its Natural Cure ability, while Alolan Muk and Amoonguss are both immune to it.

**Fast Offensive Threats**: Choice Scarf Terrakion and Infernape can revenge kill Raikou once it is weakened enough. Mega Aerodactyl and Choice Scarf Krookodile are able to outspeed Raikou and can OHKO with Earthquake, making them very good revenge killers. You may keep Raikou in on a predicted Pursuit, but it is very risky.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Raikou's viability in the UU tier comes from its potential sweep teams as well as the option of running Toxic and Protect to effectively stall out foes when paired with its Pressure ability. (Swap the order of "potential to sweep teams" and "option of running Toxic and Protect" since that's opposite of the set order.)
  • Raikou's great speed tier allows it to outspeed some of the tier’s biggest threats and its strong special attack stat, paired with access to calm mind, makes it a threatening offensive option. (Raikou's Special Attack stat really isn't "strong" especially since it's completely unboosted unless it's got a Calm Mind under its belt. This is especially true considering the main set is Toxic, which runs no Special Attack investment. Also, instead of saying "tier's biggest threats", mention some specific examples, like Terrakion and Infernape.)
  • Raikou having the capability of running both a defensive set with Toxic to wear down opponents, as well as a dangerous offensive variant makes it unpredictable and can work to its advantage in battles. (This sentence sounds too similar to the first line. I understand what you're trying to say, but the sentence structure is just similar. Reword this to say something along the lines of "Raikou is also unpredictable, being able to viably run two different sets that play completely differently" or something like that.)
  • Recently, Raikou has come into hard times with the introduction of fellow electric type, and volt absorber, Zeraora as well as the continuous competition from Mega Manectric. (GP doesn't like these types of sentences. It'd be better to just simply say "Raikou faces absurd competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as Electric-types" and then listing why, because the "recently Raikou has come into hard times" has no relevance in an analysis, especially considering this is going to be on the dex for a long time. When you do rewrite this sentence, I'd also like you to emphasize that this thing is pretty much always outclassed by other Electric-types. There's a reason it's C on the VR, it's outclassed in 95% of scenarios by Mega Manectric and Zeraora because they're both faster and stronger, and if you're gonna be using an Electric-type for defensive utility and pivoting abilities, Rotom-H is far better.)
  • While Calm Mind does help Raikou boost its already respectable special stats, it is held back due to its inability to take physical attacks and come in easily to set up, so proper support is necessary.
  • Raikou's pure electric typing can also be very limiting due to the prevalence of ground types such as Gligar, Krookodile, and Hippowdon in the current UU metagame. (Specify Choice Scarf Krookodile
Overall, I don't really think that this overview stresses Raikou's real niche enough, which is Toxic + Pressure stalling. I get that CM sets can be threatening, but the Toxic set is what's most viable, so try to reword this intro to try to specify that it fits best on balance teams that are looking for a fast Toxic staller, and also can be used as a Calm Mind sweeper in very specific scenarios, but that the Calm Mind set is usually going to be outclassed by Zeraora, and the only reason to use Raikou is for its better bulk.

Moves
========

  • Raikou's Pressure ability is paired well with substitute and protect to PP stall opposing pokemon.
  • Toxic is useful for chipping away at opposing pokemon while using protect and substitute to avoid taking damage.
  • Thunderbolt is a useful last move because its stab boost allows Raikou to 2KO pokemon such as Primarina and Scizor, while potentially OHKO'ing Starmie with just 8 evs in special attack. (cut this, fluff information)

Set Details
========

  • 248 evs in hp maximizes the stat, while also allowing Raikou to come in on rocks for one extra turn. (Well yeah, it maximizes the stat, but is that really justification for using max HP over max Special Attack? Reword this sentence talking about why Raikou runs max HP and not Special Attack [for clarification, it's because this set isn't meant to be a huge damage dealer, and moreso an annoying Toxic + Pressure staller.])
  • Max speed with a Timid nature is mandatory in order to outspeed threats like Latias, Infernape, and guarantee a speed tie with Starmie. (Delete this whole line, it's fluff.)
  • Leftovers are necessary in order to make back health lost by substituting and it also allows Raikou to recover on the turns it chooses to use protect.

Usage Tips
========

  • Sub-Toxic Raikou cannot directly switch in and take hazards damage, due to needing to keep its health high. For this reason, it is best to bring in via Volt-Turn support and when the field is cleared of hazards.
  • Raikou also needs to keep its leftovers for longevity throughout the game, so it is very important to not switch it in on trick or knock off pokemon. (Raikou isn't really switching into any Trick users [think Chandelure and Latias], but it might want to switch into Empoleon and Tentacruel which are known to run Knock Off, so specify this.)
  • Allowing Raikou to be toxic'd can permanently cripple it. Due to this, it is important to have countermeasures to prevent Raikou from being inflicted by status. (This is a line that you'd find in Team Options, as "it is important to have countermeasures" is referencing other teammates. Reword this to say something along the lines of "It's important to not allow Raikou to get hit by any status ailments and get worn down."
  • After getting a toxic off on an opposing pokemon, Raikou can substitute and protect to pressure stall PP, avoid being attacked while their opponent takes residual damage, and gain back its own health with leftovers.
  • Talk more about how to use Substitute. Raikou can come in on Water-types and Sub to bait out Ground- and Dragon-types like Choice Scarf Krookodile, Choice Scarf Hydreigon,

Team Options
========

  • Toxic Raikou fits best on more defensive builds, such as Semi Stall or Balance. These teams are based on slower, more passive playing and will have good synergy with Raikou. (Put something at the end saying "...good synergy with Raikou, as they can take advantage of Toxic damage and effectively wall checks to Raikou.")
  • Raikou is easily crippled by status, so having clerics such as Blissey, Umbreon, or Florges on a team with it is very helpful.
  • Toxic spikes can be very irritating for Raikou so having a poison type to absorb the spikes would be also be a good idea. Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Nidoking are all good options for this role. (Replace Nidoking with Nidoqueen since you'd find Nidoqueen on teams with Toxic Raikou more often than Nidoking.)
  • Hazards in general can make it difficult for Raikou to do its job, so having removers like Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Rotom-Heat would be good support for Raikou.
  • Raikou's greatest weakness is ground types, so having grass types or other pokemon capable of switching into the tier's top ground threats is a necessity. Options for this role include Chesnaught, Rotom-Heat, Hydreigon, Celebi, or Bronzong. (This sentence is too fluffy. It's more easy to just say "Ground-types like Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoqueen completely wall Raikou, so Pokemon such as...")
  • Having Volt-Turn support to allow Raikou to pivot into the game without taking unnecessary damage is also helpful. Pokemon that can assist in this could be Infernape, Hydreigon, or Scizor.
  • Talk about having entry hazard setters, since Toxic + hazards chip can be really difficult for a lot of teams to deal with.

Moves
========

  • Raikou’s Calm Mind variant is heavily assisted by its diverse move pool. Calm Mind boosts both Raikou’s special attack and special defense, improving upon already strong base stats. (Remove the red part, doesn't need to be here.)
  • Thunderbolt gives Raikou access to a powerful stab move that allows it to 2KO various relevant pokemon such as Coballion, Infernape, and max hp Scizor.
  • Hidden Power Grass and Ice both allow Raikou to hit troublesome Pokemon such as Krookodile.
  • Hidden Power Grass also helps with beating prominent walls such as Quagsire or Swampert, that are otherwise unfazed by Raikou.
  • Hidden Power Ice, on the other hand, can hit walls like Gligar for super effective damage.
  • The last slot is used in accordance with a z crystal in order to maximize damage and be able to pick up a KO on many pokemon. (Remove)
  • Shadow Ball is useful for hitting relevant pokemon like Celebi or Latias, that could otherwise choose to calm mind alongside you. (Calm Mind Celebi isn't a thing, so just say Latias here. Also, mention that it's generally decent neutral coverage.)
  • Hyper Beam, paired with its Z Crystal, allows you to do significant damage to pokemon such as hippowdon that would otherwise wall Raikou, and potentially knock them out at +1 after getting some prior chip. (Really it's pretty much Hippowdon, so just say "allows you to do significant damage to Hippowdon")

Set Details
========

  • Maximum speed with a Timid nature is necessary in order to guarantee outspeeding top UU threats such as Latias, Infernape, Coballion, and forcing a speed tie with Starmie.
  • Maximum special attack is necessary to help Raikou break through walls and sweep after boosting.
  • Z Crystals are paired with the 4th move in order to maximize damage output and allow Raikou to threaten pokemon like Hippowdon, that it otherwise would not be able to touch.
  • Remove red parts.

Usage Tips
========

  • Due to its offensive stats, Raikou is best used as a calm mind sweeper, allowing it to effectively clean up in the end game. (Not sure what this sentence is trying to say, especially since Raikou is actually "best" used as a Pressure staller. It's fine to say that it's best to attempt to Calm Mind sweep in the late-game, but stating "Raikou is best used as a Calm Mind sweeper" is both obvious and technically incorrect here.
  • It is best to avoid setting up early in the game when the checks to Raikou (such as?) are still healthy. Getting off chip damage for a set up sweep later is more productive and maximizes Raikou's chance for success.
  • Remember that what walls Raikou will be dependent on the sets being run, so it could differ slightly between games. (This is way too vague. Go into detail about certain scenarios detailing what will happen if Raikou runs different Z-Move combinations.

Team Options
========

  • Raikou requires entry assistance and hazard support from its teammates for it to fulfill its potential. Hazard setters such as Klefki, Chesnaught, Tentacruel, and Gligar pair well with Raikou and with their hazards up, allow Raikou to clean up much more easily.
  • To help Raikou come in without taking heavy damage it is preferable to have Volt-Turn support. A few pokemon that can allow Raikou to pivot onto the playing field are Infernape, Coballion, Scizor, and Hydreigon.
  • Raikou has difficulty beating certain ground types such as, Krookodile, Quagsire, and Gligar so having teammates that can switch into and remove these ground types is very helpful. Good options for answering ground types include Primarina, Celebi, Slowbro, and Chesnaught. (Raikou doesn't have much trouble beating Gligar, since Hidden Power Ice will 2HKO it and EQ doesn't OHKO back. Replace this with Mega Steelix.)
  • Reliable, long term hazard removers are good partners for Raikou in order to clear the field of anything that could hurt Raikou’s role as a late game cleaner. For this reason spinners and Defog users such as Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, or Gligar are good choices.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Running substitute in the fourth slot of Calm Mind Raikou is also an option in order to punish passive pokemon (such as?) that will attempt to spore or toxic Raikou in the hopes of chipping it down with residual damage.
  • Without a 3rd attack on the offensive set, it is better to use leftovers over a z crystal to make back the damage taken from substitute, as well as give Raikou greater longevity. Substitute limits the amount of hits Raikou must take, allows it to punish sacks, and pairs well with its ability of pressure and leftovers when chipping away at the opponent’s PP. (There's no reason for this to be separated from the previous bullet, so just combine them)
  • Aura Sphere with Fightinium Z can also be run in the 4th move slot on the calm mind variant as an option for hitting Mega-Steelix and Hydreigon for greater damage, but it leaves Raikou vulnerable to Hippowdon, Latias, and Celebi. (Honestly, I'd remove this. Running Aura Sphere makes you go Rash nature and you must be shiny, which just makes it so obvious and easy to play around.)
  • Another option is running volt switch to pivot, but in that role Raikou is outclassed by the tier's more versatile options like Mega Manectric, Zeraora, and Rotom-Mow. (remove this, completely outclassed)
  • Lastly, Shuca Berry can be used in certain cases for offensive Raikou as a way of luring in aforementioned ground types such as Scarfed Krookodile and getting rid of them, but this option is very situational in its usefulness.
  • Since we removed it from the CM set, mention Hidden Power Grass here instead.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-Types**: Ground types are Raikou’s greatest weakness. Hippowdon and Mega Steelix rarely have to fear taking attacks from Raikou and can OHKO with their stab boosted Earthquakes, which forces Raikou out. Swampert, Gligar, and Quagsire are other ground type walls that can easily deal with Raikou as long as they scout the hidden power before hand. Choice Scarfed Krookodile is the best revenge killer to Raikou, and can pursuit trap Raikou if its health falls too low. (Also mention that Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoking can completely wall Toxic + Substitute variants of Raikou. Additionally, mention that Hippowdon, Swampert, and Quagsire must be wary of a Toxic on the switch.)

**Special Walls**: Blissey and Alolan Muk are able to eat up any attacks Raikou has and threaten it out with toxic/knock off. Muk also has the option to pursuit trap, which can be threatening when paired with poison touch. Amoonguss has the ability to spore or toxic Raikou, and has clear smog to eliminate status changes. Should Raikou have substitute, Amoonguss cannot beat it unless it is the very rare Stomping Tantrum set.

**Fast Offensive Threats**: Scarfed Terrakion and Infernape force out Raikou, and without a choice scarf they are still capable of taking a thunderbolt and dealing back heavy damage with Earthquake or stab. Mega Aerodactyl and scarfed Krookodile are able to outspeed Raikou and can OHKO with Earthquake, making them very good revenge killers. (Also mention they can predict and Pursuit trap it but it's risky.)

[OVERVIEW]

  • Raikou's viability in the UU tier comes from the option of running Toxic and Protect to effectively stall out foes when paired with its Pressure ability, as well as its potential to sweep teams (with a Calm Mind set).
  • Raikou's great speed tier allows it to outspeed some of the tier’s biggest threats such as Infernape, Coballion, and Terrakion.
  • What separates Raikou from its competitors is the niche it carries in its Substitute Toxic set, an option that other electric types cannot offer as effectively. (Make this the second bullet, it'll flow better there, and then put the Speed tier bullet third.)
  • Raikou is also unpredictable, being able to run two very viable sets, that require opponent's to play around them differently. (I wouldn't call the Calm Mind set "very viable" so just cut the "very" part.)
  • Raikou faces tough competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as an offensive electric type, as well as being outclassed by Rotom-Heat as a defensive electric type. (Break this into two sentences. One that says "Raikou faces tough competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as an offensive Electric-type..." and then go into detail as to why those are usually better options. Then, talk about how it's defensively outclassed by Rotom-H and explain why.)
  • While Calm Mind does help Raikou boost its already respectable special stats, it is held back due to its inability to take physical attacks and come in easily to set up, so proper support is necessary.
  • Raikou's pure electric typing can also be very limiting due to the prevalence of ground types such as Gligar, Choice Scarfed Krookodile, and Hippowdon in the current UU metagame.

Moves
========

  • Raikou's Pressure ability is paired well with substitute and protect to PP stall opposing Pokemon.
  • Toxic is useful for chipping away at opposing Pokemon (such as Latias, Hydreigon, and Hippowdon) while using protect and substitute to avoid taking damage.

Set Details
========

  • 248 evs in hp maximizes the stat in order to better do Raikou's job of Toxic stalling and taking hits, rather than dealing damage. This investment also allows Raikou to come in on rocks for one extra turn.
  • Leftovers are necessary in order to make back health lost by substituting and it also allows Raikou to recover on the turns it chooses to use protect.

Usage Tips
========

  • Sub-Toxic Raikou cannot directly switch in and take hazards damage, due to needing to keep its health high. For this reason, it is best to bring in via Volt-Turn support and when the field is cleared of hazards.
  • Raikou also needs to keep its leftovers for longevity throughout the game, so it is very important to not switch it in on trick togekiss, or knock off from Pokemon such as Tentacruel and Empoleon.
  • It's important to not allow Raikou to be hit by any status ailments (like Toxic from Empoleon) in order to prevent it from being worn down.
  • After getting a toxic off on an opposing Pokemon, Raikou can substitute and protect to pressure stall PP, avoid being attacked while their opponent takes residual damage, and gain back its own health with leftovers.
  • Substitute can be used on water types as a way of baiting in ground types and then getting off a free Toxic.

Team Options
========

  • Toxic Raikou fits best on more defensive builds, such as Semi Stall or Balance. These teams are based on slower, more passive playing and will have good synergy with Raikou since they can wall pokemon that Raikou fears and also take advantage of Toxic to chip away at them.
  • Raikou is easily crippled by status, so having clerics such as Blissey, Umbreon, or Florges on a team with it is very helpful.
  • Toxic spikes can be very irritating for Raikou so having a poison type to absorb the spikes would be also be a good idea. Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Nidoqueen are all good options for this role.
  • Hazards in general can make it difficult for Raikou to do its job, so having removers like Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Rotom-Heat would be good support for Raikou.
  • Ground-types like Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoqueen completely wall Raikou, so Pokemon such as Chesnaught, Rotom-Heat, Hydreigon, Celebi, or Bronzong are great teammates as they are able to threaten these ground types. (Specify Taunt Hydreigon since otherwise it doesn't threaten Gligar well enough for a mention)
  • Having Volt-Turn support to allow Raikou to pivot into the game without taking unnecessary damage is also helpful. Pokemon that can assist in this could be Infernape, Hydreigon, or Scizor. (Since only U-turn users are mentioned, just say U-turn support.)
  • Hazard setters (such as Cobalion, Hippowdon, and Mega Steelix) also pair well with Raikou, because many teams struggle dealing with Toxic while also being chipped at by hazards.

Moves
========

  • Calm Mind boosts both Raikou’s special attack and special defense, improving upon already strong base stats.
  • Thunderbolt gives Raikou access to a powerful stab move that allows it to 2KO various relevant pokemon such as Coballion, Infernape, and max hp Scizor.
  • Hidden Power Ice, on the other hand, can hit walls like Gligar for super effective damage.
  • Shadow Ball is useful for hitting Latias which could otherwise choose to Calm Mind alongside you. (Also mention that it has solid neutral coverage in general)
  • Hyper Beam, paired with its Z Crystal, allows you to do significant damage to Hippowdon and potentially knock them out at +1 after getting some prior chip.

Set Details
========

  • Z Crystals are paired with the 4th move in order to maximize damage output and allow Raikou to threaten Pokemon like Hippowdon, that it otherwise would not be able to touch.

Usage Tips
========

  • It is best to avoid setting up early in the game when the checks to Raikou, such as Hippowdon and Gligar, are still healthy. Getting off chip damage for a set up sweep later is more productive and maximizes Raikou's chance for success. (Again, Gligar really isn't a great Raikou check, since it'll get 2HKOed by HP Ice on the switch and OHKOed at +1 after Stealth Rock or minor chip and doesn't even come close to OHKOing back with Earthquake. Mention Choice Scarf Krookodile instead.)
  • Remember that what walls Raikou will be dependent on the sets being run, so it could differ slightly between games. For instance, when running Shadow Ball Pokemon like Hippowdon and Swampert will rarely have to fear Raikou, but if Hyper Beam is run they will not be as problematic. On the other hand, running Hyper Beam will make it difficult for Raikou to break through Pokemon such as Latias.
  • Talk about avoiding sending Raikou out when there are still entry hazards on the field, since it will often need to be on high HP to survive priority like Bisharp's Sucker Punch and Crawdaunt's Aqua Jet. Emphasize avoiding Toxic Spikes as well, since they totally ruin Raikou.
  • Talk about when to bring in Raikou. You bring it out on an aggressive double on something like a Tentacruel or Togekiss, or via VoltTurn support and attempt to wear down its checks into range of +1 Z-Shadow Ball or Z-Hyper Beam.

Team Options
========

  • Raikou has difficulty beating certain ground types such as, Krookodile, Quagsire, and Mega Steelix so having teammates that can switch into and remove these ground types is very helpful. Good options for answering ground types include Primarina, Celebi, Slowbro, and Chesnaught.
  • Reliable, long term hazard removers are good partners for Raikou in order to clear the field of anything that could hurt Raikou’s role as a late game cleaner. For this reason spinners and Defog users such as Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, or Gligar are good choices.
  • Mention Fighting-types like Terrakion, Cobalion, and Infernape that can really pressure and take advantage of the bulky special walls like Toxic Umbreon, Blissey, and Florges that will wall Raikou.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Running substitute in the fourth slot of Calm Mind Raikou is also an option in order to punish passive Pokemon, such as Amoonguss, that will attempt to spore or toxic Raikou in the hopes of chipping it down with residual damage. Without a 3rd attack on the offensive set, it is better to use leftovers over a z crystal to make back the damage taken from substitute, as well as give Raikou greater longevity. Substitute limits the amount of hits Raikou must take, allows it to punish sacks, and pairs well with its ability of pressure and leftovers when chipping away at the opponent’s PP.
  • Hidden Power Grass can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to help with beating prominent walls such as Quagsire or Swampert, that may otherwise be unfazed by Raikou.
  • Lastly, Shuca Berry can be used in certain cases for offensive Raikou as a way of luring in aforementioned ground types such as Scarfed Krookodile and getting rid of them, but this option is very situational in its usefulness.

Checks and Counters
===================

Mega Steelix, Gligar, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen are all able to switch into and wall Toxic Raikou. On the other hand, Pokemon like Hippowdon, Swampert, and Quagsire must be wary of being hit by Toxic on the switch.

It is also possible to predict Aerodactyl and Krookodile to pursuit trap Raikou, but it is very risky.

overview

  • What separates Raikou from its competitors is the niche it carries in its Substitute Toxic set, an option that other Electric-types cannot offer as effectively.
Expand on this a little bit, since it's pretty much the main reason why it still has a place in this metagame and not completely outclassed by Manectric or even Zeraora. You can mention how the Substitute + Toxic set takes advantage of Pressure, allowing Raikou to wear down and stall out common Electric-type answers like Krookodile and Hydreigon in a way that the other Electrics could not.

  • Raikou faces tough competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as an offensive Electric-type due to their superior speed tiers, Manectric's far superior Special Attack, as well as Zeraora's ability to run a mixed set.
This is another important reason that justifies Raikou's placement in the meta, so don't be afraid to explain it thoroughly. Something that should definitely be specifically mentioned is that they also have the ability to effectively beat common Electric-type checks, while Raikou is forced to rely on Toxic, Calm Mind boosts, and Z-Moves to even attempt to threaten them and sometimes it can't even do that properly (Calm Mind sets are often not strong enough to do any significant damage to the bulkier answers like Hippowdon and Swampert). Mega Manectric can actually 2HKO Hydreigon with Hidden Power Ice and even use Hidden Power Grass to hit Swampert and Seismitoad, while Zeraora can use Grass Knot to hit Hippowdon and Swampert, Close Combat to OHKO Hydreigon, and Knock Off to hit Latias.

sub + toxic

usage tips

  • Sub-Toxic Raikou cannot directly switch in and take hazards damage, due to needing to keep its health high. For this reason, it is best to bring in via Volt-Turn support and when the field is cleared of hazards.
The reason it can't switch in directly is not just because it dislikes taking hazard damage, but mostly because of it's poor defensive stat, so that should be mentioned first. Taking hazard damage is just another reason why the player shouldn't be directly switching into attacks with Raikou, so change the wording to reflect that. You can also add that you can bring it in when a Pokemon has fainted or through double switching.

  • Substitute can be used on Water-types as a way of baiting in Ground-types and then getting off a free Toxic.
I wouldn't specify Water-types here, since there's other scenarios where you could attempt to set up a Substitute. I'd rather say that you can set up a Substitute on Pokemon that are threatened by Raikou, since those include Moltres, Alomomola, Togekiss, etc (be sure to exemplify). You don't just bait in Ground-types either, Pokemon like Latias and Blissey can also switch in, so no point in specifying here again. Simply saying that you can get off a Toxic on any incoming switch in is fine. You can also talk about the other uses of Substitute like in the face of Sucker Punch users like Bisharp or status from Pokemon like Amoonguss and Rotom-H.

Add a point talking about how Raikou should mostly be using Toxic early-game to cripple any possible switch ins like Hydreigon and Krookodile in order to be able to stall them out with Substitute and Protect later on.

Make another one about the added uses of Protect, since you can also use it to scout for Choice-locked Pokemon, which is particularly useful against Choice Scarf Krookodile.

team options

  • Ground-types like Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoqueen completely wall Raikou, so Pokemon such as Chesnaught, Rotom-Heat, Taunt Hydreigon, Celebi, or Bronzong are great teammates as they are able to threaten these Ground-types.
I don't think the examples are bad but you could definitely use better ones that actually work in the situations that you specified. You want Pokemon that can actually switch into those Ground-types that you mentioned, and force them out or take advantage of them in some way. Gligar isn't exactly threatened by any of them besides Taunt Hydreigon (Chesnaught and Rotom-H can get Toxic'd, and Rotom can't even do anything back, while Celebi just gets U-Turned on for a solid 50% as it Nasty Plots; Bronzong can technically switch in but it doesn't exactly threaten it so not the best example either) and Nidoqueen is only checked by Bronzong if it doesn't run a Fire move. You can keep Hydreigon and maybe even make a good case for Chesnaught but I'd consider changing the rest to stuff like bulky Starmie or Moltres or Pokemon that can actually attempt to switch into those Pokemon and force them out.

  • Hazard setters such as Cobalion, Hippowdon, and Mega Steelix also pair well with Raikou, because many teams struggle dealing with Toxic while also being chipped at by hazards.
Mention Spikes users like Chesnaught and Klefki as well since that's the best way to chip most of Raikou's checks. You can mention that Chesnaught can switch into Ground-types like Krookodile and Hippowdon, while Klefki checks most Dragon-types like Mega Altaria and Latias quite comfortably.

Add a point talking about how Grass-types like Tsareena and Amoonguss are good partners for Raikou, as they share good synergy together. They can check Ground-types like Krookodile and Hippowdon fairly easily, while Raikou threatens Flying-types like Moltres and Togekiss. Tsareena is particularly good because it can bring it in safely with U-Turn and provide hazard removal support, so be sure to mention that.

cm

usage tips

  • It is important to not send Raikou out when there are entry hazards on the field, in order for it to be able to take priority attacks from Pokemon such as Aqua Jet Crawdaunt and Sucker Punch Bisharp. Toxic Spikes, in particular, can severely decrease the threat that Raikou posses.
Also so that you can actually have an opportunity to set up later on. It's already hard enough to do it with a Pokemon with such an awful defensive presence, but almost impossible if it's not at a somewhat respectable amount of health.

  • Raikou can be brought into the game on an aggressive double switch to catch Water-types, such as Tentacruel or Togekiss, or via Volt-Turn support in an attempt to wear down its checks into range of a +1 Z-Move.
Togekiss is not a Water-type. Just do the same I asked you to do with the other set and make this a more general statement like "Raikou can be brought into the game on an aggressive double switch when the opponent is predicted to switch into a Pokemon that it matches up well against, such as Tentacruel or Togekiss".

team options

  • Raikou requires entry assistance and hazard support from its teammates for it to fulfill its potential. Hazard setters such as Klefki, Chesnaught, Tentacruel, and Gligar pair well with Raikou and with their hazards up, allow Raikou to clean up much more easily.
Mention how Chesnaught can check some Ground-types like Krookodile, and that Gligar can either bring it in via U-Turn or weaken some bulkier Pokemon with Toxic.

Add a first point talking about how Raikou mostly fits on offensive teams that can keep up enough momentum and find an opportunity for it to set up, like you did with the other set.

Mention Grass-types here too for the same reason as the other set. They can check Grounds really well and in return Raikou threatens most Flying-types without much issues.

other options

  • Lastly, Shuca Berry can be used in certain cases for offensive Raikou as a way of luring in aforementioned Ground-types such as Scarfed Krookodile and getting rid of them, but this option is very situational in its usefulness.
This isn't accurate, since the most probable scenario here would end up looking like a dead Raikou and an opposing Krookodile at 15-25%. The only reason you'd use this would be to tank Mega Aerodactyl's Earthquake, and actually OHKO it Thunderbolt. You can mention non-Choice Scarf Krookodile if you really want to, but Scarf shouldn't be mentioned at all. Don't forget to talk about the downgrade of using this over a Z-Move btw, since you'd find it a lot harder to find a situation where you could actually sweep with it w/o one due to the lack of raw power.

checks and counters

**Special Walls**: Blissey and Alolan Muk are able to eat up any attacks Raikou has and threaten it out with Toxic/Knock Off. Muk also has the option to Pursuit trap, which can be threatening when paired with Poison Touch. Amoonguss has the ability to Spore or Toxic Raikou, and has Clear Smog to eliminate status changes. Should Raikou have Substitute, Amoonguss cannot beat it unless it is the very rare Stomping Tantrum set.
Stomping Tantrum Amoonguss is not a set, there's no point in mentioning it. Toxic is also not really used, so I'd just mention Spore and Clear Smog.

**Fast Offensive Threats**: Scarfed Terrakion and Infernape force out Raikou, and without a Choice Scarf they are still capable of taking a Thunderbolt and dealing back heavy damage with Earthquake or stab. Mega Aerodactyl and Choice Scarf Krookodile are able to outspeed Raikou and can OHKO with Earthquake, making them very good revenge killers. It is also possible to predict Aerodactyl and Krookodile to Pursuit trap Raikou, but it is very risky.
The first sentence isn't true, they don't actually force Raikou out and you shouldn't be using Terrakion or Infernape to tank Thunderbolts from it anyway. You can say that they can revenge kill it once it's low enough in order for that to happen.

Yeah I had that as another water type before changing it to Togekiss and I forgot to change the rest of the sentence lmao. Nice catch because that would have been a disaster.

I made the changes you mentioned. Thanks for your input!

* Your second sentence is very similar information-wise to your first so I'd find a way to merge them together. I'd do this by adding 'an option that other Electric-types cannot offer as effectively' from your second sentence to the end of your first, changing 'an option' to 'two options' and removing the rest of the second sentence. Sprinkling in your Krookodile and Hydreigon mentions where you can in the first sentence also wouldn't hurt.

Set: Substitute + Toxic
Set Details
* Mention Pressure in this section since it's pretty important to the set's success.

Usage Tips
* Give another example of an attack Raikou can scout with Protect. Choice Scarf Hydreigon is a particularly good option here.

Team Options
* 'since they can wall pokemon that Raikou fears' - give examples of said Pokemon. Latias and Hippowdon work.
* No need to specifically mention just bulky Starmie, just 'Starmie' is fine considering either set pressures Ground-types well.

Set: Calm Mind
Set/Moves
* 'has useful neutral coverage in general' - give some more examples of targets it can hit hard with this neutral coverage, like Hippowdon and Mega Steelix.
* Z-Hyper Beam could use some more examples of targets. It OHKOs Hydreigon which can be important, while Amoonguss and Chesnaught both also take pretty considerable damage.

Set Details
* Mention Pressure again here. While it's not as useful overall to this specific set this section could use just a bit more substance.

Usage Tips
* Specify that it will be harder for it to break past Latias running Recover.
* ' It is also helpful to have Volt-Turn support in an attempt to wear down Raikou's checks into the range of a +1 Z-Move.' - this isn't really a Usage Tip so I would remove it. Saying that Raikou is best brought in with support from a pivot is a better way of phrasing something similar to be more fitting for this section.

Team Options
* Give some examples of Grass-types.

Other Options
* I wouldn't call Swampert or Quagsire prevalent. Instead refer to them as troublesome.

Checks and Counters
* Mention that Blissey can work around Toxic with Natural Cure, while Amoonguss and Alolan Muk are both immune to it.

Good work! 3/3 when this is implemented :]

[OVERVIEW]

Raikou's viability in the UU tier comes from the option of running Toxic and Protect paired with its Pressure ability to effectively wear down foes,[RC] such as Hydreigon and Krookodile, when paired with its Pressure ability, as well as its potential to sweep teams with Calm Mind, two options that other Electric-types cannot offer as effectively. Raikou's great Speed tier allows it to outspeed some of the tier’s tier's biggest threats such as Infernape, Coballion Cobalion, and Terrakion. Raikou is also unpredictable, being able to run two viable sets,[RC] that require opponent's opponents to play around them differently. Raikou faces tough competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as an offensive Electric-type due to their superior Speed tiers, Manectric's far superior Special Attack, as well as Zeraora's ability to run a mixed set. Raikou must rely on Toxic stall, Calm Mind Boosts, and Z-Moves to beat its common checks, whereas Manectric can 2HKO Hydreigon with Hidden Power Ice or hit Swampert (specify how many HKO wherever possible) with Hidden Power Grass. Zeraora is also able to make use of Grass Knot to hit Swampert, Close Combat to hit Hydreigon, and Knock Off to hit Latias. It is also outclassed by Rotom-Heat as a defensive Electric-type, due to Rotom-Heat having access to Defog and the ability Levitate allowing it to answer some Ground-types. While Calm Mind does help Raikou boost its already respectable special stats Special Attack and Special Defense, it is held back due to its inability to take physical attacks and come in easily to set up, so proper support is necessary. Raikou's pure electric typing can also be very limiting due to the prevalence of Ground-types such as Gligar, Choice Scarfed Krookodile, and Hippowdon in the current UU metagame.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Raikou's Pressure ability is paired well with Substitute and Protect to PP stall opposing Pokemon. Toxic is useful for chipping away at opposing Pokemon such as Latias, Hydreigon, and Hippowdon, while using Protect and Substitute to avoid taking damage.

Set Details
========

248 EVs in HP maximizes the stat its HP in order to better do Raikou's job of Toxic stalling and taking hits,[RC] rather than dealing damage.[RP],[AC] This investment also allows while also allowing Raikou to come in on Stealth Rock for one extra turn. Leftovers are necessary in order to make back health lost by substituting Substitute and it also allows Raikou to recover further on the turns it chooses to use Protect,[RC];[ASC] which then this in turn allows it to take greater advantage of its Pressure ability.

Usage Tips
========

Sub-Toxic Substitute + Toxic Raikou cannot directly switch in due to its poor defensive stats. This limitation is added to compounded by its inability to come in on hazards,[RC] due to needing to keep its health high. For this reason, it is best to bring in when the field is cleared of hazards and mainly preferably after a Pokemon faints, through double switching, or via Volt-Turn VoltTurn support. Raikou also needs to keep its Leftovers for longevity throughout the game, so it is very important to not switch it in on a Trick from Togekiss,[RC] or Knock Off from Pokemon such as Tentacruel and Empoleon. It's important to not allow Raikou to be hit by any status ailments, such as Toxic from Empoleon, in order to prevent it from being worn down. After getting a Toxic off on an opposing Pokemon, Raikou can use Substitute and Protect to pressure stall PP with Pressure, avoid being attacked while their opponent takes residual damage, and gain back its own health with Leftovers. Substitute can be used on many Pokemon that are threatened out by Raikou,[AC] and Toxic is a useful move to punish Pokemon that think that they can safely switch into Raikou. Toxic is best used early in the game in order to wear down opposing Pokemon, such as Krookodile, with Substitute and Protect over the course of the battle. Protect is also helpful in scouting for moves, particularly from choice locked Pokemon like Choice Scarf Krookodile and Choice Scarf Hydreigon, while Substitute can be used to outplay status users and Pokemon such as Sucker Punch Bisharp.

Team Options
========

Toxic Raikou fits best on more defensive builds, such as Semi Stall semi-stall or balance. These teams are based on slower, more passive playing and will have good synergy with Raikou since they can wall Pokemon that Raikou fears, such as Latias and Hippowdon,[RC] and also take while taking advantage of Toxic to chip away at them. Raikou is easily crippled by status, so having clerics such as Blissey, Umbreon, or Florges on a team with it is very helpful. Toxic Spikes can be very irritating for Raikou so having a Poison-type to absorb the spikes them would be is also be a good idea. Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Nidoqueen are all good options for this role. Hazards in general can make it difficult for Raikou to do its job, so having hazard removers like Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Rotom-Heat would be are good support for Raikou. Grass-types,[RC] like such as Tsareena and Amoonguss,[RC] are very good partners with for Raikou due to the good synergy they share, with Raikou covering their weakness to Flying-types and the Grass-types covering Raikou's weaknesses to Ground-types such as Krookodile and Hippowdon. Tsareena, in particular, is a great teammate due to having access to Rapid Spin for hazard removal and U-turn to pivot safely into Raikou. Ground-types like such as Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoqueen completely wall Raikou, so Pokemon such as Chesnaught, bulky Moltres, Taunt Hydreigon, Celebi, or Starmie are great teammates as they are able to threaten these Ground-types. Having U-turn support to allow Raikou to pivot into the game in without taking unnecessary damage is also helpful. Pokemon that can assist in this could be Infernape, Hydreigon, or Scizor. Hazard setters such as Spikes Klefki and Chesnaught, as well as Stealth Rock users like Cobalion, Hippowdon, and Mega Steelix pair well with Raikou because many teams struggle dealing with Toxic while also being chipped at by hazards.

Moves
========

Calm Mind boosts both Raikou’s Raikou's Special Attack and Special Defense, improving upon already strong base stats. Thunderbolt gives Raikou access to a powerful STAB move that allows it to 2HKO various relevant Pokemon such as Coballion Cobalion, Infernape, and max HP Scizor. Hidden Power Ice, on the other hand, can hit walls like Gligar for super effective damage. Shadow Ball is useful for hitting Latias, which could otherwise choose to Calm Mind alongside you, and has useful neutral coverage especially against Pokemon like such as Hippowdon and Mega Steelix. Ghostium Z turns Shadow Ball into a one-turn Never-Ending Nightmare. Hyper Beam, paired with its Z Crystal, Normalium Z allows you to use Breakneck Blitz to do significant damage to Hippowdon and potentially knock them it out at +1 after getting some prior chip damage, as well as OHKO'ing Hydreigon and doing considerable damage to both Amoonguss and Chesnaught.

Set Details
========

Z Crystals Ghostium Z or Normalium Z are paired with the 4th last moveslot in order to maximize damage output and allow Raikou to threaten Pokemon like Hippowdon, Mega Steelix, Amoonguss, and Chesnaught that it otherwise would not be able to touch. Pressure is also useful in chipping away at opposing Pokemon's PP and limiting their ability to deal with Raikou.

Usage Tips
========

It is best to avoid setting up early in the game when the checks to Raikou, such as Hippowdon and Choice Scarf Krookodile,[RC] are still healthy. Getting off chip damage for a set up sweep later is more productive and maximizes Raikou's chance for success. Remember that whatever walls Raikou will be dependent on the sets moves being run, so it could differ slightly between games. For instance, when running Shadow Ball,[AC] Pokemon like Hippowdon, Mega Steelix, and Swampert will rarely have to fear Raikou, but if Hyper Beam is run they will not be as problematic. It is important to not send Raikou out when there are entry hazards on the field,[RC] in order for it to be able to take priority attacks from Pokemon such as Crawdaunt's Aqua Jet Crawdaunt and Bisharp's Sucker Punch.[AP] Bisharp. Toxic Spikes, in particular, can severely decrease the threat that Raikou possesses. Keeping Raikou healthy is also crucial because its low defensive stats already make it very difficult to set up.[AP],[RC] so it becomes even more difficult to do if it is not healthy. Raikou can be brought into the game on an aggressive double switch when you predict that your the opponent is predicted to will bring in a Pokemon that Raikou will match up well against, such as Tentacruel or Togekiss. Raikou is can also easily be brought in easily with support from a pivot so that it does not have to taken unnecessary damage.

Team Options
========

Raikou mostly fits on offensive teams that are able to keep momentum and create openings for it to set up. Hazard setters such as Klefki, Chesnaught, Tentacruel, and Gligar pair well with Raikou and,[AC] with their hazards up, allow Raikou to clean up much more easily. To help Raikou come in without taking heavy damage,[AC] it is preferable to have Volt-Turn VoltTurn support. A few Pokemon that can allow Raikou to pivot onto the playing field are Infernape, Coballion Cobalion, Scizor, and Hydreigon. Other Options

Running Substitute in the fourth slot of the Calm Mind Raikou set along with Leftovers is also an option in order to punish passive Pokemon,[RC] such as Amoonguss,[RC] that will attempt to Spore or Toxic Raikou in the hopes of chipping it down with residual damage,[AC] as well as give Raikou greater longevity. Without a 3rd attack on the offensive set, it is better to use Leftovers over a Z Crystal to make back the damage taken from Substitute, as well as give Raikou greater longevity. Substitute limits the amount of hits Raikou must take, allows it to punish sacks, and pairs well with its ability of Pressure and Leftovers when chipping away at the opponent’s opponent's PP. Hidden Power Grass can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to help with beating troublesome walls such as Quagsire or Swampert,[RC] that may otherwise be unfazed by Raikou. Lastly, Shuca Berry can be used in certain cases for offensive Raikou as a way of luring in aforementioned Ground-types users such as Krookodile, as well as other Pokemon that threaten Raikou with Ground-type moves such as Mega-Aerodactyl, which is OHKO'd OHKOed by Thunderbolt. While this item can help remove threats, it is very situational in its usefulness and leads to more difficulty in sweeping due to lacking the power that a Z-Move would offer.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Ground-types are Raikou’s greatest weakness. Hippowdon and Mega Steelix rarely have to fear taking attacks from Raikou and can OHKO with their stab boosted STAB-boosted Earthquakes, which forces Raikou out. Swampert, Gligar, and Quagsire are other Ground-type walls that can easily deal with Raikou as long as they scout the Hidden Power before hand. Choice Scarfed Krookodile is the Raikou's best revenge killer to Raikou, and can pursuit trap Raikou it if its health falls too low. Mega Steelix, Gligar, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen are all able to switch into and wall Toxic Raikou. On the other hand, Pokemon like Hippowdon, Swampert, and Quagsire must be wary of being hit by Toxic on the switch.

**Special Walls**: Blissey and Alolan Muk are able to eat up any attacks Raikou has and threaten it out with Toxic/Knock Off Toxic or Knock Off. Alolan Muk also has the option to Pursuit trap, which can be threatening when paired with Poison Touch. Amoonguss has the ability to Spore Raikou, and has Clear Smog to eliminate status changes. Blissey can work around Raikou's Toxic with its Natural Cure ability, while Alolan Muk and Amoonguss are both immune to it.

**Fast Offensive Threats**: Scarfed Terrakion and Infernape can revenge kill Raikou once it is low enough. Mega Aerodactyl and Choice Scarf Krookodile are able to outspeed Raikou and can OHKO with Earthquake, making them very good revenge killers. It is also possible to predict Aerodactyl and Krookodile to Pursuit trap Raikou, You may keep Raikou in on a predicted Pursuit, but it is very risky.

Good job on the write-up! In the future, use the most basic text editor (plain text) possible so you get the correct apostrophes (and quotation marks for that matter). You can also use Xenforo's text editor of course.

[OVERVIEW]

Raikou's viability in the UU tier comes from the option of running Toxic and Protect paired with its Pressure ability to effectively wear down foes such as Hydreigon and Krookodile, when paired with its Pressure ability, as well as its potential to sweep teams with Calm Mind, two options that other Electric-types cannot offer as effectively; this ability to run two viable sets that require opponents to play around them differently also leaves it unpredictable. (more logical place) Raikou's great Speed tier allows it to outspeed some of the tier’s tier's (slanted apostrophe) biggest threats such as Infernape, Cobalion, and Terrakion. Raikou is also unpredictable, being able to run two viable sets that require opponents to play around them differently. However, Raikou faces tough competition from Zeraora and Mega Manectric as an offensive Electric-type due to their superior Speed tiers, Manectric's far superior Special Attack, as well as Zeraora's ability to run a mixed set. Raikou must rely on Toxic stall, Calm Mind boosts, and Z-Moves to beat its common checks, whereas Manectric can 2HKO Hydreigon with Hidden Power Ice or hit (change this to OHKO if that's accurate) Swampert with Hidden Power Grass. Zeraora is also able to make use of Grass Knot to hit Swampert, Close Combat to hit Hydreigon, and Knock Off to hit Latias. It Raikou is also outclassed by Rotom-H as a defensive Electric-type, due to Rotom-H having the latter's access to Defog to remove entry hazards (technically redundant but helps with readability / structure, your call) and the ability Levitate allowing it to answer some Ground-types.

Moves
========

Raikou's Pressure ability is paired well with Substitute and Protect to PP stall opposing Pokemon. Toxic is useful for chipping away at opposing Pokemon such as Latias, Hydreigon, and Hippowdon, while using Protect and + Substitute to helps Raikou avoid taking damage.

Set Details
========

248 EVs maximize its Raikou's HP in order to better do Raikou's let it do its job of Toxic stalling and taking hits rather than dealing damage better, while also allowing Raikou it to come in on Stealth Rock for one extra turn. (max HP is better, Raikou's max HP is a perfect Leftovers number i.e. that one extra HP it loses is gained back right away, and it only becomes more beneficial the longer it stays on the field) Leftovers are is necessary in order to make back health lost by Substitute and allows Raikou to recover further on the turns it chooses to use Protect; this in turn allows it to take greater advantage of its Pressure ability.

Usage Tips
========

Substitute + Toxic Raikou cannot directly switch in due to its poor defensive stats. This limitation is compounded by its inability to come in on entry hazards due to needing the need to keep its health high. After getting a Toxic off on an opposing Pokemon, Raikou can use Substitute and Protect to stall PP, avoid being attacked while their opponent the opposing Pokemon takes residual damage, and gain back its own health with Leftovers.

========

Toxic Raikou fits best on more defensive builds, such as semi-stall or and balance. These teams are based on slower, more passive playing and will have good synergy with Raikou, (AC) since they can wall Pokemon that Raikou fears, such as Latias and Hippowdon, (AC) while taking advantage of Toxic to chip away at them. Raikou is easily crippled by status, so having clerics such as Blissey, Umbreon, or and Florges on a team with it is very helpful. Toxic Spikes can be very irritating for Raikou, (AC) so having a Poison-type to absorb them is a good idea. Tsareena, in particular, is a great teammate due to having access to Rapid Spin for hazard removal and U-turn to pivot safely into out to Raikou. Ground-types such as Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Nidoqueen completely wall Raikou, so Pokemon such as Chesnaught, bulky Moltres, Taunt Hydreigon, Celebi, or and Starmie are great teammates as they are able to threaten these Ground-types. Having U-turn support to allow Raikou to pivot in without taking unnecessary damage is also helpful. Pokemon that can assist in this could be Infernape, Hydreigon, or and Scizor. Hazard Spikes setters such as Spikes Klefki and Chesnaught (RC) as well as Stealth Rock users like Cobalion, Hippowdon, and Mega Steelix pair well with Raikou because many teams struggle dealing with Toxic while also being chipped at by hazards.

Moves
========

Calm Mind boosts Raikou’s Raikou's Special Attack and Special Defense, improving upon already strong base stats. Shadow Ball is useful for hitting Latias, which could otherwise choose to Calm Mind alongside you Raikou, and has useful neutral coverage especially against Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Mega Steelix. Ghostium Z turns Shadow Ball into a one-turn one-time Never-Ending Nightmare. Normalium Z allows you Raikou to use Breakneck Blitz to do significant damage to Hippowdon and potentially knock it out at +1 after prior chip damage, as well as OHKO Hydreigon and do considerable damage to both Amoonguss and Chesnaught.

Set Details
========

Ghostium Z or Normalium Z are paired with the last moveslot in order to maximize damage output and allow Raikou to threaten Pokemon like Hippowdon, Mega Steelix, Amoonguss, and Chesnaught (RC) that it otherwise would not be able to touch. Pressure is also useful in chipping away at opposing Pokemon's PP and limiting their ability to deal with Raikou.

Usage Tips
========

It is best to avoid setting up early in the game when the Raikou's checks, such as Hippowdon and Choice Scarf Krookodile are still healthy. Getting off chip damage for a set up setup sweep later is more productive and maximizes Raikou's chance for success.

========

Chesnaught is also able to help with Raikou's Ground weakness, while Gligar can pivot into out to Raikou safely with U-turn or weaken bulkier Pokemon with Toxic. Grass-types such as Tsareena and Amoonguss pair well with Raikou, (AC) as it threatens Flying-types (RC) while the Grass-types are able to cover its Ground weakness. Reliable, long-term (AH) hazard removers are good partners for Raikou in order to clear the field of anything that could hurt Raikou’s role as a late game cleaner. For this reason, spinners and Defog users such as Tentacruel, Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Gligar are good choices. Fighting-types such as Terrakion, Cobalion, and Infernape are very useful, (AC) as they are able to pressure and take advantage of the bulky special walls like Toxic Blissey, Florges, and Umbreon that would otherwise wall Raikou.

Substitute also limits the amount number of hits Raikou must take, allows it to punish sacks sacrifices, and pairs well with Pressure and Leftovers when chipping away at the opponent’s opposing Pokemon's PP. Hidden Power Grass can be used instead of Hidden Power Ice to help with beating troublesome walls such as Quagsire or and Swampert that may otherwise be unfazed by Raikou.
