Welcome to the semifinals of the Random Battles Team Tour, where 4 teams will compete for the title of RBTT Champion as well as a custom avatar!

Tournament Rules
  • The tournament will consist of 8 teams battling it out in a Round Robin format over seven weeks; after that, the four best teams overall will move onto playoffs.
  • Each series will be played as a Best of 3
  • Matches are to be played on Pokémon Showdown.
  • Do not make baseless activity posts, get in contact with your opponent and report missed times / scheduling issues only.
  • Replays of the matches must be posted to verify a win; if replays are not posted, the match doesn't count.
General Tournament Rules
  • Scheduling: Attempt to contact your opponent by posting on their smogon profile as soon as possible. It is strongly advised to schedule publicly there on Smogon so the host can make any necessary activity calls. If you cannot get in contact with your opponent, inform the host in this thread so we can make any necessary substitution. If you have made no visible contact, the host may substitute you out for another player.
  • Timer Clause and Disconnections: The timer is not required to be on during games; however, if the timer is on and a player runs out of time, their opponent wins the game via timeout. If a player disconnects and thus times out, this also counts as a loss for the player who disconnected.

Gen 8 Random Battle: Sylveon used calm mind vs BoRida - sylveon used calm mind has had a surprisingly solid season, but borida has been playing this stuff for a very long time and has the edge there.
Gen 7 Random Battle: Mannie vs snorlax142857 - i never really got into the snorlax koolaid. i just remember that cursed g3 vs raikous....
Gen 7 Random Battle: Glop vs LordST - haven't watched much of either but remember glop making some misplays. if lordst doesn't make misplays and there's even matchups (peep the above), he should take it
Gen 5 Random Battle: Anthonyy23 vs RealMiwa - bop, gengar earthquaker vs person that never double switches. well that's fine, BW isn't really the most double switch friendly tier. expecting miwa to take this.
Gen 4 Random Battle: Trade vs Jytcampbell - have you seen trade's join date :swole: :swole: also trade picked up the meme tier known as SSBB on his phone and somehow fucking won. true goat.
Gen 3 Random Battle: xGang vs Roginald - out of curiosity i watched all of roginald's battles, since i actually played a good amount of adv and peaked the ladder several times in preparation for rbtt (fat load of good it did me LOL). i've already played gang a couple of times so i know he's good and rarely, if ever, misplays.
week 1 vs keeping it icy:
g1 - horrible matchup, got washed
g2 - god matchup (cm boltbeam kyogre against entirely slower team pikuh), washed
g3 - god matchup (CM resttalk raikou with no physical attacker on the other side and no ground types either), washed
conclusion: rands is rands dawg

week 2 vs glop:
g1 - poor matchup, swift swim kingdra sweeper washes roginald's team pretty hard. glop misplayed pretty hard so roginald took this one
g2 - piss poor matchup, look at what manectric + aggron does to roginald's team LOL. glop misplayed pretty hard by sacking the fast electric mon turn 1 (you should never do this in ADV randbats) so roginald took this one with a fkn corsola bop
conclusion: WP by roginald, i'd probably smash my head on my monitor if i had these matchups

week 3 vs coconut:
g1 -

something i've noticed is that if i have a team with 2 psychic types, i almost never ever lose. it's just so powerful, and rogi got two of the best psychic types in the meta. very good matchup, although rogi did actually open himself up to losing by sleep talking with regice instead of just burning sleeps. for those unfamiliar with adv mechs, if you sleep talk then switch out, it resets your sleep counter. the loop that happened was coconut's swift swim huntail vs roginald's sleeping regice. obviously huntail isn't touching regice and that's just a way to waste hydro pump pp, so coconut switches out to HP Steel/steel wing scizor, which can touch regice. what roginald should've done was click rest, NOT sleep talk, so that the counter doesn't get reset. it probably didn't matter either way, but just a micro thing that was overlooked.
g2- pretty even matchup, came down to a 60% para chance which is about as secure as it gets in rands. roginald took this one
conclusion: rands is rands dawg

week 5 vs watchog
g1: pretty wild game lol, i'd say the MU wasn't great on rogi's side, with a lot of slow mons against a lot of fast mons (although i don't know what the last is). CM mew kinda just fucks him up if grumpig is sleeped. i think roginald (and watchog) played this one suboptimally, on rogi's side, i would've slowed down to calc the grumpig vs mew interaction, since that pretty much gave a guaranteed win if mew died with grumpig behind a sub (which was definitely a possibility). on the other hand, that has to be weighed against the risk of burning mew with a fire punch and having that burn transferred to grumpig. guess it worked out for rogi in the end.
g2: this dude watchog tried to take on a skarmory with a mono bug stab heracross....anyway rogi should've won but got haxed. mons is mons dawg
g3: crit on sneasel didn't necessarily decide the game but it helped a lot. well played endgame by rogi at the end
conclusion: wp by rogi

week 6 vs my boi toby
g1: matchup is a lot better than you might expect. yeah toby has 2 ubers but both of them are very easily taken down by starmie. my boi toby unfortunately let his tangela die :( which was the only thing really stopping the starmie. well played by rogi though, masquerain was played great to counter the tangela
g2: ddmence does ddmence things, what a surprise. matchup win
conclusion: rands is rands dawg

week 7 vs amaranth
g1: i wouldn't fall over myself to call amaranth's team good but CM slowking is a pretty big threat and not a lot on roginald's end to deal with it. bad matchup, got matchup'd. rands is rands dawg.
g2: crit killed pretty much a guaranteed wincon on amaranth. mons is mons dawg.
g3: safe to say rogi's very lucky he had the one hard counter to salac heracross, damn, look at what that beast does to rogi's team if deo s wasn't there and static didn't proc on electabuzz. but even if the heracross part had been played optimally (it's obviously salac if it subs up and doesn't reveal lefties, the damage should've been calced to avoid salac range), can't really see a way for amaranth to beat the electabuzz. rands is rands dawg.
conclusion: rands is rands and mons is mons dawg.

rands is rands = matchups were the key factor here
mons is mons = hax changed the outcome of a game
after doing a review i think gang plays this at a bit higher of a level when it comes to figuring out optimal paths and will also have the greater experience to guide his play. go gang
