:sv/ribombee:Week 29: New Drops:sv/ninetales-alola:
:sv/torkoal:
tokbeetales.png

We got new drops, but unfortunately they are all kind of cheesy mons. Torkoal week would be a few variations of sun, not much you can do there. So we're doing them all at once and then next week I can do a mon that isn't so restricting. First up we have Ribombee: the sticky queen that is here to annoy us. The obvious set is to use it as a webs lead. With more speed than Galvantula and surprisingly solid moves to work with, it's certainly a benefit to the playstyle. There are also other options though, like specs, quiver dance and some kind of boots pivot set. Next up is Alolan Ninetales: usually a dual screen menace, thankfully contained slightly by light clay's ban. It can still be used for aurora veil, but also has other options such as supporting a snow team or using its free snow to do big damage with +2 blizzards. RU finally has an ice type, no longer can you get away with running teams with no ice resist. Finally there's Torkoal. It sets sun, it has slightly more utility than Ninetales. Go show the world how scary Venusaur still is.

Submission deadline: Teams should be submitted by 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Friday, October 5th, voting will then go until 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Sunday October 7th.

Specs Torkoal TR

:conkeldurr::crawdaunt::hattrem::mimikyu::reuniclus::torkoal:

Basically, lead Hattrem -> TR + HWish -> Specs Torkoal Eruption goes brr.

Calcs for those not familiar with Torkoal's game:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 104 HP / 152 SpD Assault Vest Cyclizar in Sun: 234-276 (76.2 - 89.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon in Sun: 432-510 (116.1 - 137%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Slowbro in Sun: 362-426 (91.8 - 108.1%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

NP Ninetales Alola HO
:ninetales alola: :yanmega: :terrakion: :maushold: :bisharp: :armarouge:
Already have a team in deck for this week lmao

:pmd/ninetales alola: Subject of this week's TOTW, a-tales was a mon I was excited to try out. It has a lot of useful traits for HO. Its snow defense boost means it can at worst, trade with a strong physical attacker (takes 89% max from tera flying scarf gapdos brave bird lmao), it completely dominates the sun/rain matchups by resetting the weather and forcing out the abusers, allowing chip on the defensive mons of the team or the setter (politoed is 2hit ko'd by freeze dry), and has a very high speed stat. I decided to use a NP set for this mon. Freeze dry was chosen over blizzard to allow a-tales to super effectively hit water types, moonblast is good stab, and tera blast ground means it can eliminate steel types for teammates. LO is needed in order to get crucial rolls, such as always OHKO'ing specs hoodra and having a high chance to OHKO specially defensive empoleon at +2. Plus, it means if a-tales isn't able to get an NP up, it isn't a complete paper towel.

:pmd/yanmega: The second mon of the main core, yanmega does yanmega things. Flinch targets and sweep games. Normally, the main issue of yanmega is that other teammates want to use tera as well, and it can't break through steels without tera. This team tries to remove steels as much as it can, between tera blast ground a-tales, low kick bisharp, and terrakion+armarouge doing there thing. However of course, if required, yanmega can tera ground to remove steel types for its teammates. Standard set, because that's the best set.

:pmd/terrakion: I of course, needed a suicide lead for the team, so I decided on terrakion. This is just a standard set, I decided against taunt on it in order to make it a much more threatening mon with SD and since we have maushold, hazards can be lifted if needed.

:pmd/maushold: With two stealth rock weak mons, I of course needed to use maushold to alleviate that issue. This is mostly a standard mouse set, and it also appreciates ninetales and yanmega luring in and destroying the steel types, which commonly wall it. Tera ground helps in the thundy matchup, ignoring its t-wave to setup again or pop-bomb it.

:pmd/bisharp: I needed some sort of anti HO element, and bisharp was exactly what the doctor ordered. This set of bisharp contains one move that is a pick unique, low kick. This allows bisharp to win the 1v1 against opposing bisharp and helps against steel types that may wall it. Tera flying helps it set up against fighting types and can turn them into setup fodder if they are choice locked.

:pmd/armarouge: Honestly, the last slot on this team was kinda flexible, as the other members covered most bases. I started out with feraligatr, but it didn't do too much. So I decided on good old armarouge. Standard set, it does well into most things lmao.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2213622095 Here's a replay of this HO in action (I swapped out feraligatr for armarouge later on, but feraligatr doesn't do anything in this match, so eh). While A-tales doesn't look like its doing much, it is putting an immense pressure on politoed, as changing the weather forces the rain abusers out and politoed in, who eventually gets chipped down enough and yanmega cleans the game.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2214070039 <--- Need I Say More

Screenshot 2024-10-02 184010.png
:ribombee:: Without a doubt the best webs setter in the tier now, having Moonblast to threaten out the most common hazard removal option in the tier. Stun Spore screws with options like scarfer who try to get the jump on the rest of the team, primarily Gapdos, and Psychic Noise is just a strong filler option, potentially coming in handy versus fat or stall matchups. Tera Ghost blocks spin and Maushold Population Bomb, which can be annoying otherwise.

:Decidueye-Hisui:: This legitimately feels so good into a lot of matchups that HO usually struggles with, specifically the rain matchup, specifically the Nature's Conqueror rain matchup, as it's able to put on a lot of pressure with its pretty great Attack and the cheesiest move of all time in Triple Arrows, while also having a pretty decent typing defensively, complimenting the rest of the team well additionally as it draws in things like Gapdos BB that Bisharp or Thundurus can set up on. Sucker Punch is rarely expected, but provides so much utility in certain matchups, like the Ghost scarfers which outspeed and threaten to do massive damage to you. Black Belt just pushes Triple Arrows to an insane level of power, being able to 2HKO things like Chesnaught after a SD.

:Mimikyu:: Very necessary on this team, as a lot of times opposing setup sweepers get out of hand to quickly for the team to handle. Play Rough provides very decent damage output and Shadow Sneak targets scarfers for chip. Destiny Bond attempts to get one extra trade out of it, as it can be decently weak without a Life Orb.

:Necrozma:: Offensive Rocker of the team, I thought it synergized best with webs as it can go absolutely crazy on slower opponents after a Meteor Beam boost. I gave it just enough speed to outspeed Cyclizar after a drop from Webs.

:Bisharp:: Defog discouragement, I'm running Low Kick over Throat Chop in order to deal with opposing Bisharps and Empoleons, which otherwise do very well into the team.

:Thundurus:: I had been playing around with this slot for a little, originally had it as an Armarouge, but I felt to weak to opposing Webs teams, and thought something that wasn't affected by them would probably benefit the team for the better. Nasty Plot with Tbolt Gknot and Tblast Fighting cover most of the tier, and Tera Blast is ran over Focus Blast because I don't want to deal with a 70% chance to lose a winning position immediately when a weaker attack will do the trick, also adds additional support against Bisharp.

:sv/rotom-heat:Week 30: Rotom:sv/rotom-mow:
1728347548912.png

This week's spotlight is on Rotom. Rotom heat, Rotom fan, Rotom mow, Rotom freeze, base Rotom whatever flavour you like except for the washer. At least Rotom heat and mow are good enough to be worthy of mention, and while none of them are in the RU tier right now, maybe your team will be the one that sends its usage up. The rotoms have a nice, balanced stat spread and mutliple options. Choice scarf, nasty plot, volt switch, a variety of status moves. The possibilities are endless, so build something cool and share the result here.

Submission deadline: Teams should be submitted by 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Friday, October 11th, voting will then go until 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Sunday October 13th.

Rotom Normal ParaSpam
:rotom: :cyclizar: :gligar: :registeel: :terrakion: :slowbro:
Was initially going to be a different team, but after playing games against fluff and more on ladder, I found that it was unviable. So, this is the new team, using rotom normal as a part of paraspam

:pmd/rotom: So unlike these normies, I decided to use a different rotom form (see what I did there). Rotom normal actually is pretty different to the other formes. It has 5 more base speed, with 30 less in defense and special defense and 10 less in special attack. Most times, this is worse, as 5 less speed is not worth much compared to the much superior bulk. However, rotom normal is able to outspeed revavroom, lucario, deo-d, brambleghast (who has been seeing more usage) and porygon-z, where its other counterparts cannot. I decided to use a dual status set with hex, which was suggested by EviGaro on Discord, and this set rocks. Most t-wave immunes don't like getting burned, such as krookodile, gligar and flygon and most burn immunes don't like getting t-wave'd, such as armarouge, infernape and entei. Hex allows rotom to deal great damage, as late game it can spam hex's in order to clean up weakened teams. Volt switch allows rotom to gain momentum and get out of bad situations. Tera fairy can be useful to resist dark moves in a pinch, and allow it to t-wave something like noivern in a pinch. Leftovers allow rotom to stay on the field longer, and its a great check to the standard thundy set (knock is annoying and psychic can 2hit ko rotom, but focus blast+g-knot is walled decently well by rotom).

:pmd/cyclizar: I needed a ghost type switchin, and some hazard removal would also be nice. So I decided on cyclizar. This is just the standard AV set, with body slam to spread para, though draco meteor can be used to have more burst damage.

:pmd/gligar: I needed a stealth rocker and a bulky physical mon, so I chose gligar. This is just the standard rocker set, with tera water to resist the many water type attacks in the tier.

:pmd/registeel: I needed a setup sweeper that could abuse all the status flying around, and I found registeel to be a great ID+BP is a great wincon, and registeel can still provide early game support with t-wave, crippling its switch ins and paving the way for teammates. Registeel can also act as a switch in to the many dragon type moves flying about in the meta. Tera dragon resists the fire type moves aimed at it while making it great against weather teams who usually rely on fire, water and grass moves.

:pmd/terrakion: I needed speed control (yes, in case the team could not para targets), and I decided on scarf terrakion. Scarf terrakion is able to clean up weakened teams very quickly, and can swap into knock off's if needed to get a justified boost. X-scissor hits the psychic types of the tier for big damage, and with tera bug and stealth rock chip, can actually 2hit ko slowbro, which is pretty neat. Tera bug is also good for resisting the ground and fighting moves aimed at terrakion. Quick attack can finish off a low health foe, such as barraskweda, from low ranges (you can even swap out tera bug for tera normal if you want to).

:pmd/slowbro: Finally, I needed another physically defensive mon, and slowbro is a classic. This is the standard defensive set that can spread para for the team, and with terrakion, set up nasty combos through future sight.

Replay: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2219168813?p2 Here is a match with an early version of the team on ladder (with amoonguss, but that ofc didn't work out lmao)

https://pokepast.es/5789a54c490ad6c0 This is a version of the team which I didn't get too many games for, but should work out fine. The only changes are rocks over t-wave on regi, and spikes on gligar instead of rocks. This turns the team into a more spike stack direction, but still should be fine.

Double fire pivot spam
:rotom-heat::slowbro::Krookodile::cyclizar::Mienshao::entei:
Nasty split:rotom-heat: heattom is one of my favourite sets to use in this game, and so I started with it and kind of just built the team around it. Tera steel is pretty important for this team seeing how it has no dragon resist normally. Additionally, I made this team to show off how rotom actually has flexible EVs now. Before this, outspeeding okidogi was a real big issue and if you didn't, then you wouldn't be able to chip it down with volt switch. Now with no busted 80 speed team-destroyers in the tier, you can run 263 or 240 speed and not lose out on too much. Slowbro and cyclizar are also both tera fairy, now that the wretched beast is no longer forcing me to run tera poison bro. Pretty quickly I realized that my other pet fire type (:entei:Entei) had surprisingly great synergy with Heattom as they can overload each other's counters. Slowbro is the best fire resist for Entei and is very afraid of Rotom-heat, Entei can do an alright job of beating up Cyclizar if it's weakened and Entei wants to tera, Entei will force water/grounds like Gastrodon to switch in and get burned, making it easier for both of them to do their thing and Heattom is one of the best abusers of Hippowdon. Once I had that offensive duo with the start of a volt-turn engine locked in, I added :Mienshao: Mienshao for extra pivot action and as a fast fighting type that can punish cyclizar and :slowbro: Slowbro for a water resist and because it's just the best pokemon of all time. After that, :cyclizar: Cyclizar will be playing the role of Cyclizar tonight, and then the team has a :Krookodile: Krookodile shaped hole that only a Krookodile can fill. I am still ride or die from Krookodile, top 3 pokemon in the tier IMO.

CB Flygon Balance any%
:rotom-mow::flygon::gengar::cyclizar::ditto::quagsire:
https://pokepast.es/426ccd7b5b73d630

Rotom-C + CB Flygon is the Lyra core, with flygon killing the paralyzed steels and poisons for Rotom while Rotom-C eats fat waters and even geezing if Tera. I play Gengar with this core for Geezing first, NP can also overpower Wo-Chien and Dazzling Gleam hits paralyzed Cyc, Umbreon...
Tera Steel Cyclizar gives a perfect in to specs hoodra should you have to play against it.
Ditto is perfect for the HO matchup and it does a lot, just like any Ditto does: scouting sets, rking stuff, wish passing, defogging, setting hazards...
Water Absorb quag for the rain matchup + I needed a rocks setter. Tera Fairy to not autolose to Mienshao + you can use it on a noivern draco meteor to Toxic it

Noivern matchup sux

Sneaky honestly, a pretty gamer team.
(Also I would ask that you move heatranator's submission to the same level as the other submissions as it's current position makes it very easy to overlook)

:sv/gastrodon:Week 31: gastrodon:sv/gastrodon-east:
1729562661757.png

It's time for the super slugger spotlight. Gastrodon is perpetually underrated, always having a place in tiers well above its own. And with Thundurus' ban, Gastrodon can suddenly take on the tier's electric types. There's a lot of room to build with it. Multiple hazards to set, two viable abilities, at least 4 viable items, a variety of sets; this is the chance to show off your Gastrodon. Build the best physdef sticky helmet, spdef sticky boots, offensive anti-rain. Most importantly though, you will have to defend your choice of form. West coast gastrodon fans will be appropriately judged.

Submission deadline: Teams should be submitted by 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Friday, October 25th, voting will then go until 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Sunday October 27th.

Glastrier Spike Stack
:glastrier: :cyclizar: :gastrodon: :houndstone: :empoleon: :armarouge:
Been waiting a long time to show off this team, and here it finally is.

:pmd/glastrier: I started out this team by using glastrier, a mon which isn't very good. However, I believed that glastrier had potential. I don't think SD sets would ever work unless they are supported by screens and hail as it simply had too many super effective weaknesses that could OHKO it. And plus, chilling neigh means it can still snowball if needed. So I decided to go a different route, with roar. Despite its bad defensive typing, glastrier has insane defensive stats at 100/130/110. This means any setup sweeper that isn't threatening it for super effective damage can't OHKO glastrier, and thus it can roar them out. Roar also builds up hazard chip and can allow glastrier to do more damage to its switch ins. The speed evs outspeed palossand, with the rest in attack and hp. Icicle crash is good stab, throat chop can hit slowbro for big damage (guarenteed 3hit ko at neutral, while 2hit ko'ing at +1) while stopping pokemon from roaring it out (and if its tera'd, they can't psychic noise it). CC is just a good neutral attack that can deal good damage to the bulky water types that resist its stab. Tera fighting removes all of its normal weaknesses while also boosting the power of CC.

:pmd/cyclizar: I needed a spinner in order to keep off hazards, and who better then the bike. Cyclizar is great at dealing with special threats and rapid spinning from there. Moveset is mostly standard, last move can be anything but I chose iron head to flinch down potential threats to the team and deal with fairy types that may want to switch in.

:pmd/gastrodon: Subject of this weeks teambuilding comp, I decided to go with a physically defensive set. This gastrodon set can usually trade pretty well with cyclizar, as rocky helmet+hazards+earth power at the very least heavily chips it down. Storm drain helps against rain teams A LOT and also unironically helps against knock off users, as with sticky hold it still takes way too much damage from knock off. Earth power benefits off a storm drain boost, spikes allow gastro to pressure switchins easier and sludge wave hits the fairy types of the tier for more damage. You can switch out sludge wave for ice beam if you want to though, as that pressures cyclizar more and hits revavroom. Tera poison gives it a fighting and fairy type resistance while also making sludge wave do more damage.

:pmd/houndstone: We have not one, but TWO UR mons on this team. I needed a ghost type on the team, and since I was using gastrodon, palossand was not going to work. I could also a more offensive ghost, but for this team I honestly wanted to be more defensive. I initially used sableye, but it wasn't really doing too well. I slapped on houndstone as a last ditch effort, thinking I would have to switch up to a different mon, but man, it put in work. Houndstone is incredibly physically bulky with fluffy, allowing it to take non stab super effective hits quite easily (and in a pinch stab ones too). Pain split allows houndstone to keep itself healthy over time, body press allows it to do solid damage to dark types, will-o-wisp cripples physical attackers, and shadow sneak is decent stab that can pick off a weakened foe from low health (does about 30% to hersculegion). Tera fighting removes its dark weakness while also boosting the power of body press.

:pmd/empoleon: I realised that I didn't have a rocker, and it needed to be something that could help on the specially defensive side. Here comes empoleon to help out. I went with the specially defensive set, as that can stomach a lot of special attacks. Stealth rocks was needed of course, so I decided to also use knock off to remove items and make it so something like volcanion is not a free switchin. Competitive also dissuades defog attempts from happening as +2 surf will still hurt. Tera flying helps against the fighting types that may threaten it while also removing its ground weakness, allowing it to slam them back with surf.

:pmd/armarouge: Finally, I needed another abuser of spikes, and oh boy, was armarouge a good fit. It not only can use spikes chip to slam its few answers harder, but its also a rapid spin detterence, as it can proc weak armour allowing it to gain +2 speed. This is just the standard set.

Replays: I would definetely need replays for a team as ambitious as this, so I've got two tourney games which this won, meaning this team has gone undefeated in tourneys.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen9ru-792755 Here we can see empoleon putting in overtime, with glastrier and gastrodon also chipping in to seal up the game.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen9ru-799261 Here, gastrodon starts the game at a nice pace, forcing hattrem to healing wish and putting crawdaunt out of commision. Houndstone also absolutely cleans up the late game, showing how bulky this mon is (43% from conk knock off is so insane).

https://pokepast.es/51594f3a7ea41591 - Hazards for Birds
Galarian Form
- My physical wall that also acts as a defogger (only for emergencies). Tera steel + rocky helmet allows it to be a great emergency answer for maushold if needed.

Joyous (3).png
- This is set is odd because I wanted it to be used as a surprise against opposing fat stuff. Mew helps to physically wall stuff, sets up rocks, and provides momentum with volt switch. Earth power is for fat steels. Great mon for getting off damage on steels and chansey for Yanmega.

Normal (16).png
- My special wall that can dish out damage in return for no recovery. Eject pack and body press over ice beam can be used.

Inspired (5).png
- Mixed wall that helps to check stuff while contributing in hazard stacking with spikes. I like using it against rain spam.

Normal (11).png
- They survived the stalling and hazards? Well finish them off with a bird. Great speed control and punishes defog.

Shouting (1).png
- Special bird sweeper. Really appreciates Goodra-H and Mew wearing down its' checks and counters. It also appreciates Gastrodon handling rain abusers.

:pmd/ninetales-alola: -- I really like this mon rn as u can make quite a few combos with your STAB, (Fairy-Ground) (Ice-Ground) (Ice-Electric) (Fairy-Fighting). Its a tera merchant but who cares if you are winning. Nasty Plot cuz duh, Encore is a broken ass move. So is the Ice + Ground combination.
:pmd/gastrodon: -- I'd have pink gastro on my team but Sneakyplanner is threatening to ban me from RU discord (help). Gastrodon is pretty good for it checks half the tier.
:pmd/chesnaught: -- I added a Spiker to aid Alolatales' breaking and sweeping stuff. Chesnaught forms a cool core with Gastro soo. Its also a fighting type check which my team desperately needs.
:pmd/goodra-hisui: -- Hisuian Goodra is cool I don't like the av set but I needed it so.
:pmd/cyclizar: -- Need I explain?
