Rate my first team ever.

I've never played pokemon competitively before and this is my first team. It seems to do okay, but there is a lot it doesn't do as well.

Gengar @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe/200 Atk/58 SpA
Hasty Nature (+Spe, -Def)
- Counter
- Hypnosis
- Explosion
- Shadow Ball

This is my psuedo physical wall and my lead. If the enemy leads with a Physical Sweeper I use Counter and get an easy kill. If he leads with a Special Sweeper I can outrun, I use Hypnosis and hope he switches in a Physical Sweeper. If I can't outrun it, I just switch out to Blissey.

Blissey compliments this build quite nicely. The enemy will switch in a Physical Sweeper that knows a fighting type move, and then I'll switch in Gengar and take no damage from it. Then he'll use a physical move to try and kill Gengar, and I'll use counter and own his face in.

200 Atk EVs give me a 100% chance of killing a max Def Blissey. Speed is maxed out for obvious reasons, and the rest goes into SpA.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def/ 176 SpD/80 SpA
Calm Nature (+SpD, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic
- Flamethrower

Your basic WishBliss. There's not much I can say about this other than that it combos well with Gengar.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 216 HP/176 Def/100 Spe/16 Atk
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Earthquake

I don't have a true physical wall, but this and Gengar do pretty well together. Again, your basic Bulky Gyarados.

Dugtrio @ Choice Band
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/6 HP
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
- Stone Edge
- Sucker Punch

Dugtrio and Gyarados go together like Blissey and Revenge Gengar. Throw out Gyarados, let the opponent switch to a pokemon with an Electric attack, then switch in Dugtrio and take no damage. This pokemon has more speed than virtually everything that's not Choice Scarf'd, and if it is Choice Scarf'd it can't do any damage to me, so it doesn't really matter.

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 HP
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Close Combat
- Extreme Speed
- Crunch
- Swords Dance

I can't afford to be stalled with Toxic Spikes, Spikes, and Stealth Rock, so this is my stall breaker, and he's a damn good one. After a Sword's Dance, Close Combat will OHKO Skarmory. He is also the only pokemon on my team with a priority move. I think every team should have at least one.

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Veil
252 Atk/252 Spe/6 HP
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang

He's pretty much just filler. I know there's a lot of things my team lacks (hazer/rapid spinner immediately come to mind), but given my inexperience with pokemon, I'm not sure what to use in my last slot that works in my team and yet can perform one of those functions.

There are 2 major problems I see with this team. The lack of a Spinner (which can ruin a few sweeps) and a Gyarados problem.

First of all, Gyarados. Taunt + Dragon Dance + Stone Edge + Waterfall gives you a lot of trouble. It sets up almost perfectly on your Blissey, Gyarados (if it gets the Taunt first), Dugtrio locked into Sucker Punch/Earthquake/Aerial Ace and without an SD under it's belt (and even with), Lucario isn't doing anything back.

Secondly, your lack of Spinner. All forms of residual damage, especially Toxic Spikes, can and will ruin your sweeps. Toxic Spikes ruin your Garchomp, Dugtrio and even Blissey (should she stay in for extended periods of time). Spikes Ruin Lucario, Blissey and Dugtrio and the ever so common Stealth Rocks ruin Gyarados from switching in repeatedly.

There is a way to fix both problems, Starmie. Surf + ThunderBolt + Rapid Spin + Recover fits your team perfect as it neuters both threats nicely. But where shall we put it? I suggest strongly that you place it over Garchomp. You said youself that Garchomp is filler, and Lucario is your late game sweeper, as well as Gyarados. Now this might open you up a bit to Weavile but that is taken care of by Gyarados. Also, I would suggest Bullet Punch > Extremespeed to revenge kill Weavile should it manage to kill something.

Finally, something minor. Take 4 or 8 EVs from Defence and place them into Speed for Gyarados. with this you can outpseed other common BulkyGyara's and Taunt them before they Taunt you.

Good idea. I'll definitely replace Garchomp with Starmie. Starmie would be my only pokemon that knows special type attacks, which is another bonus. Thanks.

Eh. If my enemy has Weavile, he always switches him in against my Gengar (my lead), and then I can just use Counter and he's dead. Taking that into consideration, would you still suggest using Bullet Punch?

Another good idea. I'll definitely do this. Thanks again!

I would still suggest Bullet punch. Your opponent may decide to bring in Weavile later on, not at the start. Sandstream damage + possible rocks (suppose if you hadn't spun them) would ruin your focus sash, thus making you fishfood for Weavile.

Okay. What do you think about making Dugtrio Choice Scarf/Adamant instead of Choice Band/Jolly?
