Battle Stadium [Reg H] Funk Soul Brother (Kommo-o Offense)

~:orthworm::kommo-o::azumarill::ursaluna-bloodmoon::volcarona::meowscarada:~
Poor Kommo-o, added in the Teal Mask DLC it never really got to shine in a format with Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle absolutely everywhere. Thankfully with the advent of Regulation H and the removal of these massive threats (and the even bigger threats of Regulation G) the dragon can finally shine as a very potent set up sweeper. And Orthworm is here too, of course. Love that little worm.
I've had a lot of success with this team on the in-game ladder but I do struggle in certain matchups, which is why I'm posting it here. I appreciate any input I can get :]

~The Team~
:sv/orthworm::kommo-o::azumarill::ursaluna-bloodmoon::volcarona::meowscarada:

Snake Eater (Orthworm) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Earth Eater
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Shed Tail

Obviously a personal favorite of mine, Orthworm provides the niche of being the slowest and thus safest user of Shed Tail which can be used to pass a Substitute to any of the team's sweepers (or just to slowly pivot). More than being a gimmick Pokemon though, its typing combined with Earth Eater means that it can easily wall out threatening physical attackers like Dragonite, Garchomp, Baxcalibur, Ursaluna, and Meowscarada that lack Low Kick.
Body Press is its best way to deal damage off of its massive Physical Defense, and with Iron Defense it can set up alongside the aforementioned Dragons to prevent them from overpowering it even with their resisted attacks. A Fire Tera allows it to absorb Super Effective Fire attacks whilst not opening it up to Grass like Water would.
With only a Fighting attack, it is walled out by Ghosts. Heavy Slam is probably a valid choice over Rocks to remedy this, though breaking sashes can be very beneficial for the rest of the team.

Enter Sandman (Kommo-o) @ Throat Spray
Ability: Soundproof
Level: 50
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Clangorous Soul
- Clanging Scales
- Flamethrower
- Boomburst

A very standard set, Kommo-o's signature move Clangorous Soul is an omniboost that also procs Throat Spray. With a Timid nature it can outspeed a majority of the meta up to Scarfed Gholdengo, which it can OHKO with Flamethrower. Boomburst does absurd damage while at +2 with Tera Normal, breaking through even the most Specially bulky Pokemon.
Soundproof prevents Ursaluna-Bloodmoon from hitting it behind a Sub passed by Orthworm with Hyper Voice (and has a few more niche uses, like blocking Roar and Perish Song) but I've definitely been on the fence about using Overcoat instead which would allow Kommo-o to check most Breloom builds by giving it immunity to Spore. Bulletproof is also an ability that exists.
Kommo-o is an excellent sweeper, but makes a poor lead because it really wants a Sub in place to get going. I've tried to build the rest of the team around supporting it, but that is a notable flaw.

:orthworm::kommo-o::sv/azumarill::ursaluna-bloodmoon::volcarona::meowscarada:

Ocean Eyes (Azumarill) @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 100 SpD / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Play Rough
- Superpower
- Aqua Jet

Originally this spot went to Primarina, but I found that even more offensively oriented sets were too passive for the team and were consistently overwhelmed by the opponent. Azumarill, with Huge Power and Choice Band, has no such issue whilst maintaining the same typing and can act as a more potent revenge killer with Aqua Jet.
Choice Band allows Azu to always OHKO Ursaluna-B and offensive Archaludon with Superpower, which isn't a luxury afforded by other items like Life Orb. It makes a great counter lead to the likes of Volcarona and Dragapult who threaten Meowscarada, and can often take a hit before OHKOing the opponent and then coming back in the late game behind a Substitute to score another KO.
This spread allows the rabbit to outpace up to uninvested Corviknight, whilst affording it enough SpDef to survive a Blood Moon from max SpAtk Ursaluna-B. I've considered Tera Stellar, which brings Superpower up to an OHKO on even defensive Archaludon, but Fairy provides utility in removing Azu's weakness to attacks like Meowscarada's Flower Trick, Rillaboom's Grassy Glide, and Archaludon's Electro Shot.

:orthworm::kommo-o::azumarill::sv/ursaluna-bloodmoon::volcarona::meowscarada:

Cosmicandy (Ursaluna-Bloodmoon) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Mind's Eye
Level: 50
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 36 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 100 SpD / 116 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blood Moon
- Earth Power
- Hyper Voice
- Vacuum Wave

The bear that needs no introduction, having a Pokemon capable of delivering powerful attacks without setup is incredibly useful on a team that otherwise relies on setup. Its spread allows it to outspeed up to uninvested Skeledirge, which is obviously an issue for the team with its Unaware ability, making it a good answer to all three of the major Unaware users in the meta (:dondozo:,:clodsire:,:skeledirge:). Relatively fast Ursaluna is quickly becoming a favorite of mine with its ability to completely surprise typically faster Pokemon like Primarina that expect it to be uninvested. Its HP also hits a magic number, with the rest of its EVs invested in SpDef to patch one of its major weaknesses - allowing it to tank even +1 Giga Drain from Tera Grass Volcarona.
Ground is an invaluable typing, in particular hitting Archaludon which the rest of the team struggles with. Mind's Eye also gives it incredible neutral coverage on its powerful Normal attacks and prevents annoying Evasion spam teams, but you already knew that.

:orthworm::kommo-o::azumarill::ursaluna-bloodmoon::sv/volcarona::meowscarada:

Kokomo (Volcarona) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 HP / 100 Def / 220 SpA / 4 SpD / 180 Spe
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Tera Blast

I'll be honest, I really don't like this bug. But it is really good.
There really aren't that many great Fire types in this format, which makes Volcarona stand out. Originally this spot went to Skeledirge, but similarly to Primarina it was much too passive and lost the team a lot of momentum. Volcarona is both a beast behind a Substitute and as a lead, potentially snowballing from turn one depending on Fiery Dance rolls. Volcarona's Fire typing compliments Azumarill and Meowscarada nicely, and though I really like Tera Rock Tera Fairy allows it to prevent the likes of offensive Dragonite and Garchomp from setting up alongside it with Scale Shot.
It has enough Defense to always live a Knock Off from Choice Band Meowscarada, which will often stay in on the bug in a bid to prevent it from getting a free Quiver Dance, and will outpace up to Dragapult at +1.

:orthworm::kommo-o::azumarill::ursaluna-bloodmoon::volcarona::sv/meowscarada:
Abracadabra (Meowscarada) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flower Trick
- Knock Off
- Triple Axel
- U-turn

Making up the last of the team's FWG core Meowscarada is an exceptional lead which can handle itself in a variety of sitauations, whilst also functioning as a potent revenge killer thanks to its high speed. I prefer Focus Sash to Choice Band and as it makes the cat less vulnerable to opposing leads it can't OHKO like bulky Volcarona, and provides more flexibility as a pivot. Its generic EV spread just allows it to speed tie with opposing Meowscarada, which can be important in a 1v1 scenario.
I've elected to run Triple Axel over Low Kick (though I'm aware that some Meowscarada run both) since without Band Kick won't OHKO Ursaluna-Bloodmoon and does relatively low damage to Archaludon - Axel can break through Sash on opposing Meowscarada and as expected can take OHKOs on Dragonite and Garchomp in games where the opponent has tera'd elsewhere. I've also tried running Taunt over U-Turn to shut down Screens users like Grimmsnarl and Ninetales that expect Meow to switch out on their Super Effective Fairy moves, but didn't find consistent use for it outside of that. Tera Ghost provides immunity to Dragonite's Extreme Speed and the occasional Body Press where applicable.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Despite me bringing up Archaludon quite frequently, it's actually a problem area for the team. It's very hard to lead into - Azumarill can beat a lead set but not an offensive Power Herb set whilst Volcarona can beat an offensive set but doesn't want to be Thunder Wave'd by a lead set. I'm also not the biggest fan of Annihilape which has a variety of sets that different members of the team can handle - but doing so requires a correct prediction. Other than that, I think the team matches up well into a majority of the meta!
Oo I love Orthworm. I had been betting on kommo o going big this reg, wasn't even close, but imo if you ever could it's now...and not later when the nonsense returns:|
You get super standard towards the end, but that's probably smart. I don't have any like that, and it's a mixed bag for sure. Anyways A+.
Edit: prim hits kommo o very hard anyways, and dirge is resisted, so idk about soundproof on kommo o for sure. It isn't bad cause that bm, but I agree it could change. I too use a weird soundproof Mon. It isn't necessarily BETTER, but it gets more mileage out of the ability, as prim is walled(it would normally be weak to water,) and dirge can't do much(the boosts would overwhelm eventually without luck from fissure.)
Thank you :] I was hoping my weird freakily optimized EV spreads on half of my mons would make up for me using the most basic Meowscarada set imaginable on the end lol
Good team!
I actually had a similar idea with shed rail passing to a big threat that appreciates the safety of a substitute, though in my case it was specs typhlosion h, and my shed tail user was cyclizar.
Have you given Alomomola a shot on this? I ended up trying it on my shed tail team and it did a wonderful job of being a backup pivot to get stuff like typhlosion and Dragonite in safely, and the threat of mirror coat makes stuff like archaludon or opposing blursa more manageable provided you’re not too predictable with it.
Very cool team though! Would be cool to see some replays to see how it functions!
Thank you for the kind words! Sorry for not responding for a bit, I was taking a break until the start of the new season. I don't have much experience playing cycle so I'm a little unfamiliar with Alo though having a SpDef pivot to compliment Orthworm sounds super useful. Do you think I should take Ursaluna in a more offensive direction to accommodate it, or try a set on the fish without AV?
Somehow I completely overlooked Typhlosion-H, but in all reality a Scarf set might be a good shout. Frisk would make predicting Dragapult and Archaludon sets much easier and having a Ghost on team preview would put a lot of pressure on Annihilape, which are my two biggest issues at the moment.
