Regirock [QC 0/3]

Status
Not open for further replies.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Has an amazing Defense, good Special Defense, and good HP that makes it a good check to Braviary, Dodrio, and Incineroar
  • Sturdy keeps it from being OHKOed, while Clear Body keeps its stats from being lowered, especially by Intimidaters such as Qwilfish and Memento users such as Uxie
  • Awful Speed stat that makes it outsped by most of the tier
  • Rock typing makes it extremely vulnerable to the common Water, Grass, and Fighting types even with its stunning Defense, especially the likes of Toxicroak and Venusaur who can use Regirock as set up fodder
  • Lack of good recovery to back up its massive bulk outside of Leftovers and inability to safely remove Toxic makes Regirock easily worn down without help from teammates
  • Steelix outdoes Regirock as a wall due to its better defensive typing and immunity to Toxic and better offensively with Gyro Ball or Heavy Slam, and Eviolite Rhydon is an even better offensive choice that has better bulk than Regirock
  • Faces competition from Palossand and Steelix as Stealth Rock users, as Steelix has a better typing and Palossand can spinblock and recover

[SET]

Name: Defensive Rocker
-Stealth Rock
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Toxic / Thunder Wave
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Careful
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========
  • Stealth Rock is a great entry hazard and is a must for Regirock as its massive bulk and Sturdy allows it to set it up easily
  • Stone Edge is easily the most powerful STAB attack that Regirock has
  • Earthquake can deal with a lot to Poison, Steel, and Rock types decently, such as Qwilfish, Toxicroak, Heliolisk, and Garbodor
  • Toxic is great at bringing down walls like Shuckle, Rhydon, and other Regirock
  • Thunder Wave cripples fast attackers such as Toxicroak, Mismagius, and Braviary
Set Details
=========
  • Max HP and Special Defense with Careful nature can aid Regirock's longevity and help it deal with special attackers such as Grass Knot Delphox or an +2 Energy Ball Mismagius
  • Sturdy can allow Regirock to survive any attack at full health so setting up Stealth Rocks or OHKOing frailer Pokemon is useful
  • Clear Body gives immunity to Intimidate, Memento, and other stat drops

Usage Tips
========
  • Regirock switches into physical attakcers well if they don't have super effective damage or unboosted
  • Special attackers such as Heliolisk, Whimsicott, and Vaporeon can easily take out Regirock if Sturdy isn't being used
  • Sturdy Regirock isn't very good to switch in if there are hazards on the field to break Sturdy
  • Struggles with Toxic being used against it, as it gets rid of its longevity
  • While its Attack is pretty good, it cannot easily deal with bulky targets or targets that resist its offensive moves without the use of Toxic, such as Aromatisse, Mega Audino, and Slowbro
  • Avoid Taunt and Encore as it’ll make Regirock unable to Toxic walls and set up Stealth Rock

Team Options
========
  • Grass types like Whimsicott and Venusaur as they resist Regirock’s Grass and Water weakness and Regirock can cover their weaknesses in Fire and Flying pretty well
  • Wish / Healing Wish users such as Aromatisse, Mega Audino, and Vaporeon that can help Regirock get a massive chunk of HP back
  • Psychic, Ghost, Flying, or Fairy types like Xatu, Mismagius, and Braviary as they can deal with Regirock’s Fighting weakness
  • Slow sweepers that can gain a lot from a Thunder Waved opposition such as Incineroar, Rhydon, and Vikavolt
  • Frail Pokemon like Heliolisk, Sneasel, and Cinccino that appreciate Regirock's ability to take attacks for them
  • Heliolisk not only appreciates Regirock's bulk, Heliolisk can also switch into Water Types that bother Regirock and can attack back with super effective moves
[SET]

Name: Sun Support
Move 1: Stealth Rock
Move 2: Sunny Day
Move 3: Stone Edge
Move 4: Explosion
Item: Heat Rock
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
=========

  • Stealth Rock is just a good entry hazard, and Regirock is so bulky that it is an excellent setter
  • Sunny Day with Heat Rock gives you 8 turns of sun to use unless the weather is changed, and Regirock's bulk and access to Sturdy makes it a great setter
  • Stone Edge hits hard and should be used to take care of things that can be OHKOed by it without making Regirock KO itself and pressures Xatu and Vanilluxe which would usually stop Stealth Rock or Sunny Day from being set
  • Explosion hits everything hard with the exception of Ghost, Rock, and Steel Types and gives your sun sweepers a safe way to come out
Set Details
========
  • Max HP makes Regirock as bulky as possible
  • Max Attack and Adamant nature makes Regirock hit extremely hard with Explosion and Stone Edge
  • Heat Rock is absolutely necessary for this set to work to max efficiency
  • Sturdy assures that at least Stealth Rock or Sunny Day will be set up, and they often both will be

Usage Tips
=========
  • Best used as a lead as setting up Stealth Rock or Sunny Day as soon as possible is very important to sun teams
  • If your opponent can 2HKO Regirock, you have a choice between Sunny Day or Stealth Rock, look at your opponent's team, if they are extremely weak to your sun sweepers or are weakened by sun than Sunny Day is better. If your opponent's team counters most of your sun sweepers or is weak to Stealth Rock, than Stealth Rock is better
  • As soon as Regirock is done setting up, using Explosion will give you a free switch into a sun sweeper or as a last resort in order to KO or severely damage the opposing Pokemon
  • If you can OHKO the opposing Pokemon with Stone Edge that would be better than using Explosion
  • Pokemon who can easily manipulate the weather like Liepard and Vanilluxe counter this set extremely hard unless Regirock hasn't exploded yet or you have other sun setters, but they don't like to stay in on Regirock's attacking moves
  • The sun weakening Water Type moves is very helpful to Regirock, crippling a major weakness
Team Options
========
  • Sun sweepers such as Exeggutor, Victreebell, Venusaur, and Charizard which not only have boosted offensive potential, but they also appreciate the damage Stealth Rocks can do
  • Liepard is another amazing sun setter with Prankster Sunny Day, and can be used when the sun fades and Regirock has been KOed
  • Vileplume, Venusaur, and Victreebell not only have Chlorophyll to benefit from sun, but can also remove Toxic Spikes and allow Regirock to come in safely

Other Options
========
  • Drain Punch can allow Regirock to restore health more efficiently and hit Normal, Steel, Dark, Ice, and other Rock types
  • Curse is a great set up option for Regirock as it greatly increases its amazing physical capabilities, and since Regirock's Speed is so low there really isn’t much negative in using it
  • Seismic Toss is great at dealing a set chunk of damage when it is used on bulkier opponents, especially against Steelix
  • Rest is another way for Regirock to recover and even get rid of other status effects, but at the consequence of inducing Sleep

Checks and Counters

**Toxic / Toxic Spikes**: Regirock’s most notable characteristic is its massive bulk and giving it Toxic is the worst thing that can happen to it

**Taunt**: Makes Regirock unable to Toxic / Stealth Rock and its Speed doesn’t help

**Super Effective Moves**: Due to Regirock's inability to reliably recover it gets worn down a lot by super effective moves, especially when they are special

**Special Sweepers**: While Regirock still has a good Special Defense, special sweepers like Heliolisk and Grass Knot Delphox can still be a big threat to Regirock

**Steel Types**: Can deal super effective damage while also being immune to Toxic, they also easily switch into Stealth Rocks

**Bulky Status Absorbers**: Mega Audino and Aromatisse can easily deal with Toxic and are too bulky for Regirock to deal with offensively

This is QC ready

I wasn't really sure whether to include examples for the damage or not but if its a problem I can remove them.

Also after I read over this a bit and calc'd it a bit more I realized that Regirock will need about 244 Defense EVs to survive the Machamp situation if the Adamant set is used, so I will change it

And now this doesn't matter since Machamp is RU so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ok CommandorTurtwig I'm sorry to do this to you after you made those changes, but a lot of what durza suggested is stuff I'm going to overturn.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Has an amazing Defense, good Special Defense, and good HP that makes it a good check to Fire, Flying, and Normal types and a good switch in on physical attackers list some of the specific pokemon it checks instead of just the types
  • Sturdy keeps it from being OHKO’d, while Clear Body keeps its stats from being lowered, especially by Intimidaters such as Qwilfish and Memento users such as Uxie
  • Good Attack stat makes it able to do a lot of damage with STAB Stone Edge this isn't especially true. regirock is known for being quite passive
  • Awful Speed stat that makes it outsped by most of the tier
  • Doesn’t deal with status effects well tie this in with the "lack of recovery" point
  • Rock typing makes it extremely vulnerable to the common Water, Grass, and Fighting types in the tier even with its stunning Defense memtion some examples of pokemon that take advantage of it
  • Lack of good recovery to back up its massive bulk outside of Leftovers
  • Steelix outdoes Regirock as a wall due to its better defensive typing and immunity to Toxic and Thunder Wave thunder wave isn't really relevant, but you can also talk about how steelix (and preferably rhydon) outdo regirock because they are threatening offensively

[SET]

Name: Defensive Rocker
Ability: Clear Body / Sturdy
Item: Leftovers
-Rock Slide / Stone Edge remove rock slide
-Earthquake
-Thunder Wave / Toxic toxic first slash please
-Stealth Rock
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Atk / 16 Def / 56 SpD

the set should be max hp, max spdef with a careful nature. you're using it to check fire-types and you don't do that with the current spread
+1 252 SpA Delphox Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Regirock: 338-398 (92.8 - 109.3%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
+1 252 SpA Delphox Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Regirock: 258-304 (70.8 - 83.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
physically attacking normal- and flying-types aren't especially relevant anymore.

also make stealth rock the first move please

the format also needs to look like this
[SET]
name:
move 1:
move 2:
move 3:
move 4:

ability:
nature:
evs:
so please make sure you have the correct format with the dashes and such

Moves
========
  • Stone Edge is easily the most powerful STAB attack that Regirock has, Rock Slide is a good alternative
  • Earthquake can deal with a lot to Poison, Steel, and Rock types decently, such as Qwilfish, Toxicroak, Steelix, and Garbodor eq doesn't really handle steelix, so I would mention togedemaru here over it.
  • Thunder Wave cripples fast attackers such as Omastar, I wouldn't mention oma here because that implies you should stay in with regi vs an omastar Mismagius, and Braviary
  • Toxic is great at bringing down walls like Shuckle, Rhydon, and other Regirock
  • Stealth Rock is a great entry hazard and is a must for Regirock as its massive bulk and Sturdy allows it to set it up easily
don't forget to change the order of points here to match the correct order of moves
Set Details
=========
  • Max HP and 56 SpDef let Regirock not be 2HKO'd by Hidden Power Grass Pyroar
  • 16 Def and Impish nature allow Regirock to avoid a 2HKO from Life Orb Iron Tail Tauros
  • Impish nature will improve Regirock's great Physical Defense to ludicrous levels make it match the current spread
  • Sturdy can allow Regirock to survive any attack at full health so setting up Stealth Rocks is reliable
  • Clear Body gives immunity to Intimidate, Memento, and other stat drops

I think the ability should just be clear body. you can make a mention of sturdy's usefulness in this section, but just keep it as clear body on the set
Usage Tips
========

  • Regirock can survive even the most extreme Physical attacks in the tier, such as Life Orb Dodrio and a Superpower from a Choice Band Emboar
  • Pretty decent attack can allow it to get a few KOs on some of the more frail Pokemon, but don’t rely on it as a sweeper
  • Use Toxic/Thunder Wave on anything you can’t KO easily
  • Horrible Speed makes it disadvantageous if your opponent outspeeds it these are all kind of intuitive posts more or less. try and be more specific to the pokemon. "regirock switches into this" "this pokemon easily switches into regirock" "this pokemon prevents regirock from doing its job" stuff like that is essential for any good usage tips section
  • Struggles with Toxic being used against it, as it gets rid of his longevity
  • While its Attack is pretty good, it cannot easily deal with bulky targets or targets that resist its offensive moves without the use of Toxic try and make mentions of pokemon like this. steelix comes to mind and there are a lot of others I'm sure
  • Avoid Taunt and Encore as it’ll make Regirock unable to Toxic walls and set up Stealth Rock

Team Options
========
  • Grass types as they resist Regirock’s Grass and Water weakness and Regirock can cover their weaknesses in Fire and Flying pretty well list some grass types that do a good job
  • Hazard Removal such as Golbat, Cryogonal, and Hitmontop as they can get rid of Toxic Spikes for Regirock to safely come in everything hates tspikes unless it's immune so this is kind of an intuitive point in my eyes.
  • Wish / Healing Wish users such as Aromatisse, Mega Audino, and Vaporeon that can help Regirock get a massive chunk of HP back
  • Psychic, Ghost, Flying, or Fairy types as they can deal with Regirock’s Fighting weakness specifically mention these pokemon that help with this
  • Slow sweepers that can gain a lot from a Thunder Waved opposition such as Emboar, Incineroar, and Vikavolt
are there any pokemon aside from slow attackers that appreciate what regirock does? think of stuff that appreciates its defensive merits and how that can be tied into this section.
tag me when you're done with this and I'll work on the second half of the analysis. I wanna make sure you can implement all of this and I don't want to overwhelm you with too much stuff at once.
