I found that slightly suspicious, so I snooped around and also found out that he put the safeguard on himself. Fortunately, said safeguard was redirected, and I had the backup inspector target him. Now, why Uncle Sam? Well, he claimed safeguard, and I have another safeguard claim - and it's verified in the BG's PM. Also, we can't screw with rey if the mafia safeguards him.
I have to go, just trust me on this, ask me questions tomorrow if needed.

The bodyguard is a staple role in almost every mafia game, and the bodyguard and safeguard are known through their role PMs (like in Blindness Mafia). The safeguard is the exact same role you are. So, you're guaranteed to be mafia. And again, like I said, we can easily manipulate team-of-one rey.
