[SET]
name: Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psyshock / Stored Power
move 3: Focus Blast / Thunder
move 4: Recover
item: Fightinium Z / Electrium Z
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Magic Guard alongside Calm Mind and great physical bulk allows Reuniclus to function as an effective wincon. It is able to use common defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex, Ferrothorn, and Corviknight as setup fodder, which is an amazing trait for the balance teams it finds itself on. Focus Blast complements Psyshock nicely, demolishing Pokemon such as Tyranitar, Heatran, and Ferrothorn. Fightinium Z avoids the risk of missing Focus Blast on Tyranitar, Mega Tyranitar, and Taunt Heatran. Alternatively, Stored Power can be utilized alongside Thunder to have a better matchup against stall, as Mega Sableye cannot take a boosted Thunder and Unaware users falter to Stored Power's scaling Base Power. Thunder alongside Electrium Z nails Slowking and Toxapex. Thunder is also able to spread paralysis, but it does not hit Dark-types, which leaves Reuniclus more vulnerable to Pursuit. Magic Guard gives Reuniclus an immunity to entry hazards and sand, making it very difficult to wear down and a great switch-in to Toxapex. 44 Speed allows Reuniclus to outspeed and beat Haze Toxapex. The remaining EVs are placed into Defense with a Bold nature to allow Reuniclus to set up in the face of strong physical attackers such as Mega Medicham and Mega Lopunny.
Reuniclus appreciates entry hazard support from partners like Clefable, Mega Tyranitar, Ash-Greninja, and Ferrothorn to wear down the few natural checks that it has, such as Weavile, Tyranitar, and Mega Tyranitar. In particular, Reuniclus appreciates Toxic Spikes support from Toxapex to swiftly wear down opposing Pokemon, which allows it to clean up weakened teams late-game. Due to Reuniclus's inability to touch Mega Sableye as well as bad matchup against Aegislash, teammates such as Calm Mind Clefable and Mega Mawile make for solid partners. Reuniclus's Pursuit weakness is also a nuisance, but if paired with Mega Latias, the pair can easily overwhelm opposing Pursuit trappers such as Weavile, Tyranitar, and Mega Tyranitar. Reuniclus can struggle with strong special attackers like Ash-Greninja, Volcarona, and Gengar, especially if it is unboosted. Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Toxapex, Heatran, and Kommo-o can deal with these Pokemon. If running Thunder, Excadrill is a solid teammate, as it takes advantage of Reuniclus's ability to handle Corviknight and Skarmory.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Stored Power alongside Acid Armor seems appealing to make Reuniclus a difficult-to-handle sweeper after a few boosts; however, this set is completely walled by Haze Toxapex as well as Dark-types, making it very inconsistent. This set necessitates Toxic Spikes support to wear down Dark-types such as Tyranitar and Greninja. Colbur Berry can also be used to take a hit from Weavile or Tyranitar in a pinch and OHKO back with Focus Blast. Life Orb is also a fine item if the Z Crystal has been taken by a teammate such as Excadrill.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Dark-types**: Ash-Greninja, Tyranitar, and Weavile threaten Reuniclus with their super effective STAB attacks, but they cannot switch in for fear of Focus Blast. The latter two can also Pursuit trap and ruin Reuniclus. All of these Pokemon are susceptible to entry hazard support from Reuniclus's teammates though. Mega Sableye completely walls and can PP stall Reuniclus lacking Thunder.
**Ghost-types**: Gengar and Aegislash are able to scare Reuniclus out with the threat of their STAB Ghost-type attacks. It is worth noting that Gengar cannot switch in and can only OHKO Reuniclus with Never-Ending Nightmare if Reuniclus has multiple Calm Mind boosts.
**Strong Wallbreakers**: Powerful wallbreakers such as Mega Mawile, Mega Garchomp, and Tyranitar can handle Reuniclus, even after it has accrued multiple Calm Mind boosts. None of these Pokemon want to take multiple Focus Blast or Psyshock, making them less durable checks than one would think.
**Taunt**: Taunt Heatran can prevent Reuniclus from setting up, but it does not want to have to stomach a Focus Blast. Other Taunt users such as Tapu Fini and Grimmsnarl can impede Reuniclus setting up.
**Pokemon That Can Take Advantage of Reuniclus Setting Up**: Unaware Calm Mind Clefable does not care for Reuniclus's stat boosts, and can beat it with its own Calm Mind boosts. Choice Scarf Landorus-T can carry Punishment, which shatters Reuniclus after multiple Calm Mind boosts due to its scaling Base Power.
