Ribbons Guide

In this guide, I will be discussing all of the possible ribbons a Pokemon can possess starting from Generation III all the way to Generation VIII. There are 3 categories ribbons fall under: Contest ribbons, Battle Ribbons, and Miscellaneous Ribbons. Some people collect them due to personal reasons or perhaps as a challenge to obtain all of them. These Pokemon are what we call "Ribbon Masters". Now, without further delay let us begin this journey together!

Generation III
In Generation III, a Pokemon can have a total of 27 Ribbons, given that they were a Shadow Pokemon coming from Pokemon Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness and are level 50 or below. Any higher level would prevent them from participating in the Level 50 bracket of the Battle Tower. They would have a maximum of 25 Ribbons if they came from another game as a non-Shadow Pokemon and they are higher than level 50.

Below are the ribbons you can have in Generation III:

Pokeblocks:
During contests, your Pokemon will be judged on 5 unique traits and, which are the following:
  • Coolness (orange)
  • Beauty (blue)
  • Cuteness (pink)
  • Cleverness (green)
  • Toughness (yellow)

The best way to ensure success in your contest hunting is to give your Pokemon Pokéblocks. These little candies are what will give you the edge over your competitors and hopefully will allow you to get first place. In order to obtain these Pokéblocks, you will need to get the Pokéblock Case from a young girl at the Slateport City contest foyer, or the Lilycove City contest foyer in Emerald. You can make Pokéblocks by taking part in Berry Blending in the Lilycove contest hall foyer. Below are the flavors, preferences, and dislikes based on the Pokemon's nature. Lastly, neutral natures are, for a lack of a better term, neutral to the flavors.

FlavorPrefersDislike
Spicy (Red)Adamant, Brave, Lonely, NaughtyBold, Calm, Modest, Timid
Sour (Yellow)Bold, Impish, Lax, RelaxedGentle, Hasty, Lonely, Mild
Dry (Blue)Mild, Quiet, Modest, RashAdamant, Careful, Impish, Jolly
Bitter (Green)Calm, Careful, Gentle, SassyLax, Naive, Naughty, Rash
Sweet (Pink)Hasty, Jolly, Naive, TimidBrave, Quiet, Relaxed, Sassy

Contests:

In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire contests are divided into four ranks, which are spread throughout the Hoenn region. They are located at Verdanturf (Normal Rank), Fallarbor (Super Rank), Slateport (Hyper Rank), and finally Lilycove (Master Rank). In Emerald, this was changed so all the contests are held in one area, and that is at the Lilycove City contest hall! Winning a lower-tier contest such as Normal allows you to enter a higher rank like Super, and so on. Your Pokemon will be judged based on five unique characteristics - Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness. Each category has a sub-category where your Pokemon will not be penalized for using an incompatible move in the second round. Below are the primary and secondary categories under which they will be judged:

CategoryPrimarySecondary
CoolnessCoolnessBeauty and Toughness
ToughnessToughnessCoolness and Cleverness
BeautyBeautyCoolness and Cuteness
ClevernessClevernessCuteness and Toughness
CutenessCutenessBeauty and Cleverness

For each of the 5 contest types, the judges compare how you stand up to the other contestants. So, if you have a high Tough rating for example, you will score higher than everyone else in the first round of the Tough contest! The second round is where everything comes together. Here, you must appeal to the crowd by instructing your Pokemon to use one of its 4 moves. It is highly recommended to use moves that match the table above based on the category you are in, as this will greatly improve your potential to win. A couple of things to be aware of in contests: try not use the same move twice in a row (greyed out moves), but if a move is red use it! Using a red move will double your score that turn, and it is what is called a combo. The scoring is based of the following:

  • You will receive hearts based on how "appealing" the move was.
  • The appeal of your opponents' moves will decrease depending on how many black hearts appear under "Jam".
  • Bonus: if you manage to wow the crowd by using a combo or a move associated with the category, you can obtain more points.
In order to obtain the Artist Ribbon, you need to talk to the Artist NPC at the museum in Lilycove City.

Battle Tower (or Battle Frontier)

You can challenge the Battle Tower in either Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald, with Ruby and Sapphire being the easier of the two compared to Emerald. As I mentioned above, there are two brackets: Level 50 and Open Level. In the former, the highest leveled Pokemon will be level 50. However, in the Open Level, the pre-set level will be a level 60 Pokemon. So, to explain further, assuming you have a level 65 Entei, a level 60 Zapdos, and a level 25 Pikachu. Due to Entei's level being past the pre-set level of 60, all trainer's Pokemon will match Entei's level of 65, and the other two will stay the same. In addition, only the three Pokemon you choose to use for battle will obtain the Ribbon. Here is an example of a team I used to complete the Battle Tower:

  • Latios
  • Swampert
  • Metagross

You are probably wondering why two post-game Pokemon and a starter Pokemon, right? Well, truth be told, I thought these three had the best synergy with one another. If you want to know more about these three, please refer to the in-game tiers. This on-site guide was created by Fireburn and Blue Frog, so thank you both for your hard work. Please know that Latios, Swampert, and Metagross are not required and you can choose any Pokemon you like. If you are not sure of which Pokemon to use, the in-game tier guide can help shed some light!

Latios @ Lum Berry / Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest / Timid
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Claw
- Psychic

With its Calm Mind + 3 attacks set, Latios can become a terrifying force. I personally went with Lum Berry to counter status effects. Thanks to its ability Levitate that grants it a Ground immunity, Latios can be brought in on a predicted Ground-type move against Metagross

metagross.png

Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Adamant
Evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
- Meteor Mash
- Shadow Ball
- Explosion
- Earthquake

Metagross's immense Attack stat can bring an explosive victory to you should you decide to blow it up... I mean, use the move Explosion. Meteor Mash is its main STAB move, being supported by its base 135 Attack. Shadow Ball is here to protect Latios against Ghost-types, as Metagross can switch in should Latios have an unfavorable type matchup.
swampert.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Evs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpDef
Nature: Brave / Relaxed
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump / Roar / Refresh
- Protect

Swampert's unique Ground/Water typing grants it immunity to Electric-type attacks. Ice Beam is here to help against Dragon-type Pokemon to aid Latios. Refresh is used to remove unfavorable status ailments. Protect can be used to gain some more health back, as you never know if that extra HP can save the match!

In summary, Latios is here to come in on predicted Ground-type attacks. Metagross can be brought in for Latios and can follow up with a Shadow Ball if necessary. Swampert can be switched in for Metagross should you face a Fire-type that outspeeds Metagross, as Swampert can check it with Earthquake or Hydro Miss...err, I mean Hydro Pump. Lastly, it is recommended that you properly EV train your Pokemon; if you are unsure of how to do so, please refer to the on-site guide to Effort Value training, which was created by Jubilee! Now it is time to move to Generation IV for some more Ribbon fun.

Generation IV

You can acquire a staggering 39 Ribbons in Generation IV, for a total of 66! Seven are the weekly Ribbons that you obtain by talking to an NPC in Sunyshore City, one is for beating the Elite Four, and then there's the Best Friend Ribbon (Route 213), which is available in Generation IV, VI, and VII. New as well are the purchasable ones and the one received by defeating Red at the top of Mt. Silver in HGSS. The main portion of the ribbons is obtained from the contest hall in Hearthome City (20) and the Battle Frontier...again. I would recommend waiting on the expensive ribbons, as they make a return in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Below are all of the Generation IV ribbons:

The same rules for contests in Hoenn apply here, but Sinnoh added a few unique things: dressing up your Pokemon, dancing, and Poffins replacing Pokéblocks. Things are a little bit easier due to Pokemon having more moves and the presence of various move tutors scattered across the Sinnoh region.

Poffins:
In order to obtain Poffins, you need the Poffin Case, which you can grab from the Pokemon Fan Club Chairman in Hearthome City. I'd recommend doing this in Platinum, as you can buy level 32 Poffins with 20 smoothness from the Veilstone Deptartment Store B1F.

Contest Scarfs:
In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, they introduced some new held items in the form of scarfs:
  • Red Scarf
  • Blue Scarf
  • Pink Scarf
  • Green Scarf
  • Yellow Scarf
The scarfs help in each of the 5 categories stated above.

In the Super Contest in Sinnoh, there are three rounds that you have to do: Visual, Dancing, and Acting, as described below.

Visual Competition:

In this part the player is required to dress up their Pokemon depending on a certain "theme", which the announcer states as the competitors head to their dressing rooms.

Dancing Competition:

In this round all four Pokemon are gathered on the stage to give a little dance by pressing Left, Right, Front, and Jump. You can use the A, B, Y, and X buttons in addition to the touch screen to control your Pokemon. The lead dancer chooses up three steps in Normal and Great Rank (DP), and four in the Great (Pt), Ultra, and Master Rank.. The key is to match the tempo as closely as possible.

Acting Competition:
In Sinnoh, the Super Contest has 4 rounds and not 5 like the Hoenn contest did. The judges award the contestants with the following points at the end of each round:
  • 3 if only one Pokemon performed to the same judge
  • 2 if two Pokemon performed to the same judge
  • 1 if three Pokemon performed to the same judge
  • 0 if all 4 Pokemon performed to the same judge
It is best to use moves matching the category of the contest to increase the voltage (noted by a yellow star above the NPC's head). Using an incompatible move, such as a Smart move in a Tough contest, will lower the voltage. If you can get the maximum voltage, your Pokemon gets +5 from Jordan and Keira and +8 from Dexter (head judge).

Battle Frontier
These are the Battle Ribbons which you can obtain:

RibbonNameAchievement

World Ability Ribbon.png
World Ability RibbonAttain Rank 5 at the Wi-Fi Battle Room

Unfortunately, the last Ribbon, the "World Ability Ribbon", is no longer available due to the Wi-Fi connection being shut down. In order to have the best odds at obtaining the above ribbons, I would recommend looking at the 4th Generation Battle Facilities Discussion and Records, as you can find sample teams that other users have used. Having your Pokemon properly EV trained can greatly boost your overall odds of winning. Please refer to the on-site guide The 4th Generation EVing Manual by Erodent. This guide effectively describes how EVs work and what EVs you should invest depending on the Pokemon you are using. Thankfully, Generation V has no ribbons, so we will make a trip to Kalos next!

Multi-Generation Ribbon:

The Effort Value Ribbon is available in Sinnoh. You can find the NPC at the Sunyshore City Seal Shop. Just know that, from here on out, some ribbons are repeats and you do not need to get them because you have them already! These are called the Multi-Generation Ribbons Keep this in mind as you progress through your journey!

Generation VI

Starting from Generation VI, all of your Contest Ribbons and Battle Tower ribbons will consolidate into one of two types:

RibbonNameHow to Obtain
Contest Memory Ribbon (Blue)Transfer a Pokemon that had the regular Contest Ribbons from RSE or Super Contest from DPPt (not every Ribbon)
Contest Memory Ribbon (Gold)Transfer a Pokemon who had all of the Contest Ribbons from RSE and the Super Contest Ribbons from DPPt (all contest Ribbons)
Battle Memory Ribbon (Blue)Transfer a Pokemon that had Ribbons from the Battle Tower in HGSS or DPPt (not every Battle Tower Ribbon)
Battle Memory Ribbon (Gold)Transfer a Pokemon who had all of the Battle Tower Ribbons from RSE, DPPt / HGSS (all Battle Tower Ribbons)

Starting from Generation VI, your Pokemon does not need to participate in any of the battles in order to obtain the ribbons. They simply must be in the party when you challenge the Battle Maison in Kalos or Hoenn to obtain it!

There are five new ribbons that you can obtain in Pokemon X and Y:

RibbonNameAchievement (How to Obtain)Region
Kalos ChampionBeat the Champion and enter the Hall of FameKalos
Training RibbonGolded every Hyper Training (HT) exerciseLumiose Cafe (Kalos)
Skillful BattlerBeat a Battle Maison - 20 winsKalos or Hoenn (ORAS)
Expert BattlerBeat a Battle Maison - 50 winsKalos or Hoenn (ORAS)
Best FriendsAcquire max affection in Pokemon AmieKalos (Bonnie at the Lumiose City Centrico Plaza)

If you are struggling with the Battle Ribbons, I would suggest checking out the Battle Maison thread, which can give advice on the various trainers.

Multi-Generation Ribbons:
  • Weekly Ribbons
    • Alert (Monday) - Ambrette Town
    • Shock (Tuesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Downcast (Wednesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Careless (Thursday) - Ambrette Town
    • Relax (Friday) - Ambrette Town
    • Snooze (Saturday) - Ambrette Town
    • Smile (Sunday) - Ambrette Town
  • Effort Value
    • Laverre City
  • Footprint Ribbon
    • Shalour City
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Contests have been quite literally watered down compared to the previous generations, as there is no longer any "feel" and "level" mechanic. In addition, only the Master Rank gives out a Ribbon, which in turn allows another Pokemon to head straight to the Master Rank competition instead of having to do each contest individually. Your Pokemon also no longer gets "full", so just feed them Pokeblocks or Pokeblock+ to max out the categories. Unfortunately, there's only a 70% and 30% chance of getting a Pokéblock or Pokéblock+, respectively, by blending 4 Berries of the same type.

Here are all of the Ribbons that are exclusive to the Hoenn Region (ORAS only):
RibbonNameAchievement (How to obtain)
Cool MasterWinning the Cool Master Rank
Beauty MasterWinning the Beauty Master Rank
Cute MasterWinning the Cute Master Rank
Smart MasterWinning the Smart Master Rank
Tough MasterWinning the Tough Master Rank

    • Expert 50 wins - Battle Resort
  • Best Friends Ribbon
    • Max affection - Mauville Hills female NPC
  • Training Ribbon
    • Talk to Karate NPC - Dewford Town; after completing the Hyper Training exercises
If you want an easy time getting the expensive Ribbons, please refer to in-game tips, which was created by Mambo and Imanalt. Thank you both! Now, in the guide, please look for the "Fast Money" section, which will describe how you can become a rich Pokemon Trainer.

This wraps up the Generation VI Ribbons section. Now it is time to move overseas once again to the beautiful sub-tropical paradise called the Alola region.

Generation VII

Welcome to the Alola region! We have four more Ribbons that need to be attached to our Ribbon Master Pokemon. Here are the Generation VII ribbons:

RibbonNameAchievement (How to Obtain)Location
Alola ChampionDefeat the Alola Elite FourMt. Lanakila
Battle Master RoyalDefeat the Mask Royal at Master RankRoyal Avenue
Battle Tree GreatDefeat Red or Blue in a battle (Battle Legend)Poni Island
Battle Tree MasterDefeat Red or Blue in a Super Battle (Battle Legend)Poni Island

Multi-Generation Ribbons
  • Footprint Ribbon
    • Hano Grand Resort (Show a Pokemon that has increased in level by 30)
  • Effort Value Ribbon
    • Royal Avenue (Has 510 EVs)
  • Best Friend Ribbon
    • Requires max affection in Pokemon Amie - Malie City Community Center
Battle Royal Master Ribbon

All Pokemon here will be forced to stay at level 50, so your level 100 Ribbon Master will be level 50 temporarily. However, if your Pokemon are under level 50, they will remain at that level. The battles end when all of the trainer's Pokemon have fainted. The winner is determined by the number of KO points they earned and the number of their remaining healthy Pokemon. Should there be a tie, the winner is decided upon whose Pokemon has the highest remaining HP. Below are the following ranks:
  • Normal Rank
  • Super Rank
  • Hyper Rank
  • Master Rank
Each victory allows you to challenge the next highest rank before reaching the Master Rank. Here, you face the "Masked Royal", but between us, we all know who it is, right? Upon the defeat of the Masked Royal, your team (even if the Pokemon did nothing) will receive the Battle Royal Master Ribbon.

Some things to keep in mind while challenging the Battle Royal is to have a diverse team and moveset. Try not to switch your Pokemon, as they may be targeted and KOed easily. Be wary of multi-target moves such as Surf, as its Base Power is reduced to 50%. That is all the info you need to succeed at the Battle Royal. I wish you the best of luck!

Battle Tree Ribbons

To obtain the Battle Tree Great Ribbon and the Battle Tree Master Ribbon, you need to beat Red or Blue. The Battle Tree Great Ribbon requires you to win 20 consecutive regular battles and beat a Battle Legend. The Battle Tree Master Ribbon requires you to achieve 50 wins in a super battle. One thing to keep in mind while climbing the tree is that the opposing Pokemon will have different items and abilities as you progress. That is everything you need to know about Generation VII's Ribbons. If you are having a difficult time, please join the Battle Facilities Discord server and check out the Battle Tree Discussion and Records thread. The Discord server contains veteran players who can help you succeed, and the forum provides sample teams as well as some more advice too! With that, we wrap up Alola, so pack your gear and head over to Galar!

Generation VIII

If you have made it this far you are in the homestretch! Welcome to the Galar region. Here, we have three new ribbons:
RibbonNameAchievement (How to Obtain)
Galar ChampionWin the Champion Cup
Tower MasterDefeat the former Champion (Leon) at the Master Ball Tier - Wyndon Battle Tower
Ranked MasterDefeat an opponent at the Master Ball Tier - Ranked Battles

Multi-Generation Ribbons
  • Best Friends Ribbon
    • In Hammerlocke, right of the Pokémon Center
  • Effort Value
    • In Hammerlocke, right of the Pokémon Center
Conclusion

Before I bring this guide to a close, if you are curious on how to bring your Ribbon Master across the generations, I would highly recommend reading the Pokemon Transfer Guide, which was also created by me, Light Sanctity. If you managed to make it this far, I congratulate you! This is the longest possible journey a Pokemon can take! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!

All right shiny finder I am ready for the QC phase! I believe I have all of the necessary information regarding each and every possible ribbon a user can obtain. Furthermore, I wasn't too if there was anything for Generation VIII Ranked Battle (like a guide). Also wasn't too sure if I should link another Ev training guide near the battle ones like in Gen VI the Battle Maison and later Gen 8's. I think that is all I need to say right now, I will also tag the following users: Sephirona, Christian, and Luna Fantasia! You can also tag more people who you think could help me out! I did not mention any of the event ones as I felt those would be useless to mention.

As I suggested on discord, one thing that would set this apart from many other ribbon guides already available online is including the multi-generation ribbons in each generation's section. You already mention that the Effort Ribbon is available in every gen in your Gen 3 section, for example, but people would still have to go google for themselves where to get the Effort Ribbon in Gen 4, 6, 7, etc. It would just be useful to include all of that information in one guide so people don't have to go look for help elsewhere. So basically, something simple like

[chart with all exclusive ribbons to that Generation]

[chart with multi gen ribbons that could be obtained in other gens]

Basically, after the main ribbons of each generation, have a separate section with ribbons like Effort/Footprint/Best Friends along with their respective NPC locations in those gens, perhaps titled something like "Multi-generation ribbons". That way, someone who wants to complete a ribbon master starting from Gen 6 doesn't have to scroll back to Gen 3 to realize that they can get the Effort Ribbon, and doesn't also have to go look up where to get it themselves. Just as an example.

The Training Ribbon is awarded for a Pokemon that has golded every every Super Training event, show this Pokemon to a male NPC in Lumiose City Cafe (also available in ORAS).
Edit: Also, you might be better off just making a chart for these and listing where the ribbon is in ORAS as well instead of only mentioning the X Y location. There is no Lumiose City Cafe in ORAS, and note how you only mention the location of the ribbon in XY but don't mention where it is in ORAS. Ideally, you'd mention both!

Thank you (edit) will add that too! n_n! Just a bit hard to remember to add everything. I want to make this as easy to understand and make it user friendly if that makes any sense!

Thanks Light. Here are my thoughts as I read thru it:

I think a more general intro would be nice to introduce what ribbons are and why people may want to collect them. It feels a bit awkward immediately start with contests, compounded by then not really talking about contests until later.

In Generation III a Pokemon can have a total of 27 Ribbons (or 26) given two requirements.
I'm not sure what the 2 requirements are. Moreover, if a Pokemon wasn't purified and not lvl 50 anymore, wouldn't the max be 25?

G3 Table: Idt you need to have additional descriptors in parentheses for the contest when the name already has it. For example, it's redundant to have (Super) when the achievement/method is already Hoenn Beauty Super Contest.

G3 Table: You mention the location for RS, but what about E?

G3 Victory Ribbon: Is the cap really 60? If it's open, I'd expected the range to be 1-100 (er, maybe 5 Idr what the min level is in Gen 3 haha)

Is the req for the artist ribbon just to get 1st place or is there some benchmark you need to beat? I'm assuming this has to be done before you talk to the girl...

In order to obtain these Ribbons, you will need to get the Poke Block Case from a young girl at the Slate Port City contest foyer.
I think you mean in order to get Poke Blocks, not Ribbons.

For the blocks, don't necessarily have to create a new column in the table, but you should at least mention that neutral natures are neutral to the flavors.

As I mentioned above there are two brackets: Level 50 and Open Level. Open being Pokemon who are level 51 or higher.
Since you say in the next sentence that Pokemon aren't leveled up automatically, I'd reword the second sentence a bit. Maybe to something like Pokemon can participate in Open regardless of their level. Right now it reads like only lvl 51+ Pokemon can participate in the Open bracket.

I like the idea of providing an example team for the G3 Battle Tower, but only those 3 would get the ribbon, right? Can I easily sub one of those out if I don't want the ribbon, or do I need to rebuild my whole team? I think a statement to this effect would help the reader extend it to their own goals, but there's definitely value in providing a sample team so people know what to look for in terms of coverage.

G4 Ribbons:
  • For consistency, might be best to include "DPP" in the location as well since you have HGSS already.
  • Gorgeous, Royal, and Gorgeous Royal are missing locations
  • You kinda say it up above, but for the last 2 I'd include in the table which games they're for. For easy access of info. I'd confirm the guy's name for the Footprint ribbon too (might be singular...and footprint is 1 word).
The same rules apply to contests as it did in Hoenn, but Sinnoh added two unique things to it: Dressing up your Pokemon and dancing. Things are a little bit easier due to having more moves and various move tutors that are scattered across the Sinnoh region.
For context, I'd also say that poffins replace poke blocks.

What do the colors indicate in dancing? You don't need to go into depth on the mechanics, but as someone who doesn't know what that is, it doesn't really mean anything to me currently.

Are the acting competition and dancing subsets of the contests, or are they separate things? It's not immediately clear where they are coming into play with regards to the ribbons.

Gen 6: I'd include what the names are in the first sentence in addition to the images in the first paragraph. They images themselves don't indicate enough to stand alone. Also in the last part of the first paragraph...40 and 8 what? ribbons?

I'd consider making the Gen 6 ribbons into tables as well. I think it would really help with reader comprehension.

Sephi kinda touched on this, and yeah I agree. Having the location for say, those ribbons after the ORAS contests, would be helpful.

For the ones that are available in multi gens, if you haven't already I'd say that you don't need to get them in each gen since it's the same ribbon.

Pretty sure we have a gen 7 battle tree thread in OI. I'd link it. Same for Gen 8. Maybe discord server too? Up to you.

From Gen 6 onward, it feels a bit awkward to have the ribbons in text like that when everything else is in a table. For consistency I'd suggest maybe making them into a table format somehow instead of just in the middle of the text.

Also gonna tag Lego and Max. Optimizer cuz I think they have suffered thru some ribboning as well.

Thanks Light. Here are my thoughts as I read thru it:

I think a more general intro would be nice to introduce what ribbons are and why people may want to collect them. It feels a bit awkward immediately start with contests, compounded by then not really talking about contests until later.

I think you mean in order to get Poke Blocks, not Ribbons.

For the blocks, don't necessarily have to create a new column in the table, but you should at least mention that neutral natures are neutral to the flavors.

Greetings, Light Sanctity,

Unfortunately, I'm only really familiar with the ribbons from Generation 6, 7, and 8.
I'm however still going to leave a few comments to the best of my knowledge and abilities.

Here, I compiled the threads that shiny finder mentioned in his post for your convenience:

Battle Facilities Discord
Battle Maison Discussion and Record
Battle Tree Discussion and Records

Here are a couple more resources that I found in these threads:

Sun/Moon Trainer and Moveset Data (by user Team Rocket Elite)
Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon Trainer and Moveset Data (by user Team Rocket Elite)

It looks like the resources for the Gen 6 Battle Maison have expired.

Also, I agree with what shiny finder said: You need to maintain a certain level of consistency: the tables in this case.
For the reader's sake, it's generally a good idea to stick to a certain style of presenting your information throughout your work.
Generally speaking, this something that you can keep in mind for future guides, and for academic works in the real world.
In a similar sense, I also want to place emphasis again on shiny finder's comment regarding the need for an introduction.
What I usually do when writing a guide is putting myself into the shoes of a potential reader that is unfamiliar with the topic at hand.
From there, I think of questions that said reader might have regarding the topic and then I try answering as many of these questions as possible.
You're obviously already doing a good job with that for the most part, but I figured it can still always be worth to have a little reminder.

I love these little transition sentences by the way: "This wraps up the Generation VI Ribbons section and now it is time to move over seas once again to the beautiful sub-tropical paradise called the Alola Region."

You really manage to convey the sentiment of a "journey" here, adding a little charm to an otherwise typically theoretical and informative guide.

Maybe it'll get too long, but, I was wondering if it could potentially be useful to mention the team members of the respective Battle Facility bosses?
Not in detail, of course, but maybe a list of some sort?
(Gmax Charizard, Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon, Seismitoad, Rhyperior, Haxorus, Aegislash, and Mr. Rime) for Leon in the Gen 8 Tower for example.
That way the reader can prepare for certain threats that could pose a problem to the Ribbon Master?

I can't think of much else right now.
Sephirona and shiny finder already covered most of the things that I'm not too knowledgeable about anyway.

Good job, keep it up!

Ah! Thanks so much MO! I’ll add in info regarding the facilities bosses Pokémon and what mons they could use to help their ribbon master Pokémon. The info is very appreciated and will be implemented ASAP!

shiny finder, Sephirona, and Max. Optimizer;

Please have an additional read through to see if I adequately made the necessary changes and additions. Some comments from me:
Sorry for the long post wanted to put it in a Hide Tag.... mostly SF’s stuff
- Hopefully the introduction is better and more natural
- fixed the ribbon amount for Gen III
- I also did not mention the Contests location in the Gen 3 table because I already mentioned in the guide that in emerald it was changed so all contest are held at Lilycove City and the other locations for Ruby and Sapphire.
- removed the redundancy about the contest name for each rank
- fixed the victory ribbon sentences
- added info about the artist ribbon (will check more later on it) lel
- issue about "obtaining these ribbons" meant for the poffins. FIXED
- added neutral to the Poffins with neutral nature.
- fixed the sentence with making appear like pokemon only level 51 could entered and added the change you stated.
- Gen 3 Battle tower team: I did mention the Pokemon only that are battling will obtain the Ribbons and that they could play around with the team. IT was only meant as an example so they could see a team composition and perhaps how to cover weaknesses with other Poke's types, etc.
- G4 Ribbons fixed location for expensive ones and added the DPPt.
- "The same rules apply" fixed and added replaced PokeBlocks
- added info about the colors for the dancing and added another section the dressing part I forgot LOL
- the dancing and acting I think I added that they are part of the contest section.
- fixed gen VI consolidation ribbons issue
- added the "odd" ribbons and put them into a table
- I also felt that I did not need to repost the same ribbons again (for visuals) so I put them in a list that says what the ribbon is and where the location is under the title of "Mult-Generation" Ribbons.
- added the discord server for Gen VII and the Records forum thread, too.
- You are a weeb :weeb: sorry I had to LOL! :xeneyes:

MO: I decided against adding the Leaders of the Facilities Pokemon because I feel it would make it too long as you had a suspicion of and if the user really wanted to know the could look it up, in my opinion. I also added the things you agreed with SF on and Sephirona as well!

Sephi: fixed the things you talked about :P

Again sorry for the long regurgitation SF just wanted to bring up the points you mentioned, along with Max. Optimizer and Sephirona! I feel I can move it to [QC 1/2] and I will wait further critiques on the article.

Ignore the Pokemon Transfer guide it won't bring you anywhere :P I added that there so when it is done I can insert the link so the reader can use both of my on-site guides to help them with their journey! Lastly, I mentioned that if users are having a difficult time they can reach out to me and I can help them better understand my article if you think I should remove it or keep it please let me know here or on Discord!

Thanks light. As a followup to my suggestions (based on the changes you made) I only have a few minor things

Stylistically, you should have a Gen 3 header right after your intro paragraph (which is much better btw!) to match the other sections later on.

In your G3 table (Wishing and Victory Ribbons), I'm still not quite sure what you are trying to say regarding the levels. The text in the paragraphs later on makes sense, but your parenthetical entries in the table make it sound like only a level 50 Pokemon can enter the lvl 50 challenge, and only Pokemon lvl 60-100 can enter the Open Challenge. Neither of which are true based on your text later on.

Level 50 permits any Pokemon up to Level 50 and any Pokemon can participate in the Open Level, but the highest leveled Pokemon will be a level 60 as the levels will increase along with your Pokemon.
The levels of what increase along with your Pokemon? Your Pokemon's levels, or the levels of the other trainers' Pokemon? Are you just trying to say that everything is downleveled to 60?

Also only the three Pokemon you choose to use for battle will obtain the, as for the three examples down below.
Missing the ribbon name.

Recheck the dancing section. I think you are missing some words, and I'm still not quite sure why the colors.

Bonnie at Lumiose City Centrico Plaza (Gym X & Y)
For consistency, this isn't really a region. Would prob be best for format it like Kalos (Bonnie at Lumiose City Centrico Plaza) or smth. Similarly with the training ribbon. Admittedly this might be more of a GP thing but eh.

For the gold contest/battle memory ribbons, I think you'd be better off moving the 40 and 8 to the "How to obtain" column, or just eliminating it entirely, cuz rn it's not quite apparent what they mean. For example: " Transfer a Pokemon who had all 8 of the Battle Tower Ribbons from RSE, DPPt, and or HGSS ". Also, you don't specify you mean the contest/super contest ribbons for the Gold Contest Memory Ribbon. Right now it sounds like you need all the ribbons from the old games.

These are the Multi-Generation Ribbons that were once previously available in a different Generation and or game:
This should be moved up to the XY section instead of the ORAS one (i.e. to define Multi-gen ribbons in the first place you use it).

You are a weeb :weeb: sorry I had to LOL! :xeneyes:

Nice changes! You are missing the "Multi-gen" ribbon section in Gen IV, by the way. The Effort ribbon is also obtainable there.

You are also missing the "Multi-gen" section in Gen VIII. The Best Friends and Effort ribbons are also obtainable there. Thanks to Max. Optimizer for confirming :o

Also, you're missing the Training Ribbon in the "Multi-gen" section of ORAS. You can get it in Dewford City from the karate dude.

These Ribbons are the Mult-Generation Ribbons in Generation VII:
  • Foot Print Ribbon: Hano Grand Resort (Show a Pokemon that has increased in level by 30)
  • Effort Value Ribbon: Royal Avenue (Has 510 EVs)
  • Best Friend Ribbon: Needs max affection in Pokemon Amie - Malie City Community Center
For this section, I'd suggest also using the bolded "Multi-Generation Ribbons:" text to start this info off just to be consistent with the rest of the sections in the guide so people have a visual indication of it being the same type of section as the others.

shiny finder, I added everything you and Rona had suggested. Also I added the info about the Multi--Generation thing in the Gen IV section because that is where I first mentioned it, but if you think I need to change it let me know! I omitted all of the unnecessary "fluff" and added the other details I missed like Gen VIII's Multi Gen ones and also:

:blobglare: omae wa mou shindeiru
You need to clarify this as I don't know what you mean :blobnom: Thankies!

Not yet, Light, sorry! I just found another error.

Multi-Generation Ribbons:
  • Weekly Ribbons
    • Alert (Monday) - Ambrette Town
    • Shock (Tuesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Downcast (Wednesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Careless (Thursday) - Ambrette Town
    • Relax (Friday) - Ambrette Town
    • Snooze (Saturday) - Ambrette Town
    • Smile (Sunday) - Ambrette Town
  • Effort Value
    • Shalour City
According to Serebii, the EV ribbon in XY is not in Shalour. It is in Laverre: https://www.serebii.net/xy/ribbons.shtml

Also, you are missing the Footprint Ribbon in this section. The footprint ribbon is the one that is from Shalour. I suggest looking through all of the ribbons you've listed just to make sure you are being thorough with fact-checking! Maybe turn on the game yourself and look for the NPCs as well just to make sure you have the right info. I've found a number of sources online that listed info incorrectly, so the best course of action is to research it in-game yourself.

Much better thanks. And sure you don't :poutlet:

Think eliminating the numbers was a good call, but I still think you should clarify that you mean the contest ribbons (reg or super as appropriate) and not every ribbon.

Ribbons Guide

In this guide I will be discussing all of the possible ribbons a Pokemon can possess starting from Generation III all the way to Generation VIII. There are 3 categories theyRibbons fall under: Contest ribbons, Battle Ribbons, and Miscellaneous Ribbons. Some people collect them due to personal reasons or perhaps as a challenge to obtain all the in-game ribbons. These Pokemon are what we call "Ribbon Masters". Now without further delay let us begin this journey together!

Generation III
In Generation III, a Pokemon can have a total of 27 Ribbons given that they were a sShadow Pokemon and are level 50 or below. As itny higher level would prevent them from participating in the Level 50 bracket (of the Battle Tower (RP). Otherwise tThey would have a maximum of 25 Ribbons if they came from another game as a non-sShadow (Pokemon and if they are higher than level 50).

Down bBelow are the ribbons you can have in Generation III:

repetitive to say "down below"

I'm not gonna change all of them cuz it takes forever in colors, but for consistency make sure the following table uses the form "[X]ing etc etc" for the achievements...like your entries for the Contest Ribbons. Similarly, make sure all of the achievements have the first word capitalized. You're missing a few.

PokeBlocks Pokeblocks:
For contests your Pokemon will be judged on 5 unique traits and, (AC) they are the following:
  • Cool (orange)
  • Beauty (blue)
  • Cute (pink)
  • Smart (Ggreen)
  • Tough (yellow)

The best way to ensure success in your contest hunting is to give your Pokemon PokéBblocks. These little gems are what will give you the edge over your competitors and hopefully will allow you to get first place. In order to obtain these PokéBblocks, you will need to get the Poké Bblock Case from a young girl at the Slate Pport City contest foyer. However, in Emerald you obtain it at the Lilycove City contest foyer instead. You obtain PokéBblocks by using berries in the Lilycove contest hall foyer. Down bBelow will shows the flavor, preferences, and dislikes based offn the Pokemon's nature. Lastly, neutral natures are, (AC) for a lack of a better term, (AC) neutral to the flavors.

FlavorPrefersDislike
Spicy (Red)Adamant, Brave, Lonely, NaughtyBold, Calm, Modest, Timid
Sour (Yellow)Bold, Impish, Lax, RelaxedGentle, Hasty, Lonely, Mild
Dry (Blue)Mild, Quiet, Modest, RashAdamant, Careful, Impish, Jolly
Bitter (Green)Calm, Careful, Gentle, SassyLax, Naive, Naughty, Rash
Sweet (Pink)Hasty, Jolly, Naive, TimidBrave, Quiet, Relaxed, Sassy

Contests:

In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire contests based off four ranks thatwhich are spread throughout the Hoenn region. They are located at Verdanturf (Normal Rank), Fallarbor (Super Rank), Slateport (Hyper Rank), and finally Lilycove (Master Rank). In Emerald version this was changed so all the contests are held in one area and that is at the Lilycove City Ccontest hall! After wWinning a lower-tier contest, (AC) such as Normal this, (AC) allows you to enter a higher rank, (AC) like Super. Your Pokemon will be judged based off five unique characteristics - Cool, Beauty, Cute, Smart, and Tough. Each category has a sub-category where your Pokemon will not be penalized for using an incompatible move in the second round. Down bBelow will shows the primary and secondary based off howcategory by which they will be judged:

CategoryPrimarySecondary
CoolCoolBeauty and Tough
ToughToughCool and Smart
BeautyBeautyCool and Cute
SmartSmartCute and Tough
CuteCuteBeauty and Smart

For each of the 5 contest types, (AC) the judges compare how you stand up to the other contestants. So, if you have a high Tough rating for example, (AC) you will score higher than everyone else in the first round! In of the Tough contest! The second round is where everything comes together. Here, (AC) you must appeal to the crowd by instructing your Pokemon to use one of its 4 moves you haknown 4 move assigned to them. It is highly recommended to use moves that match the table above based off the category you are in. A, (AC) as this will greatly enhancimprove your potential to win. A fewcouple things to be aware of in contests isare try not use the same move twice in a row (greyed out moves), but if a move is red use it! ThisUsing a red move will double your score that turn, and it is what is called a combo. The scoring is based off the following:

  • You will receive hearts based off how "appealing" the move was.
  • The appeal of your Opponent's opponents' moves appeals will decrease depending on how many black hearts appear under "Jam".
  • Bonus: if you managed to wow the crowd by using a combo or a move associated with the category, (AC) you can obtain more points.
In order to obtain the Artist Ribbon, you need to talk to the Artist NPC at the Museum museum in Lilycove City.

Battle Tower (or Battle Frontier)

You can challenge the Battle Tower in either Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald. Ruby and Sapphire being the easier of the two compared to Emerald. As I mentioned above, (AC) there are two brackets: Level 50 and Open Level. In the Tower for Level 50, (AC) the highest leveled Pokemon will be level 50. However, in the Open Level, the pre-set level will be a level 60 Pokemon. So, to explain further, (AC) assume you have a level 65 Entei, a level 60 Zapdos, and a level 25 Pikachu. Due to Entei's level being past the pre-set level of 60, (AC) all Trainer's Pokemon will match Entei's level of 65, (AC) and the other two Pokemon's level in your party will stay the same. In addition, only the three Pokemon you choose to use for battle will obtain the Ribbon as for the three.(AP) Here is an examples down below. team I used to clear the Battle Tower:

  • Latios
  • Swampert
  • Metagross

You are probably wondering why two post-game Pokemon and a starter Pokemon, right? Well, (AC) truth be told I theseought three I personally used and felt theyree had the best synergy with one another. If you want to know more about these three, (AC) please refer to the in-game tiers t. (AP) This on-site guide was created by Fireburn and Blue Frog so thank you both for your hard work. Please know that Latios, Swampert, and Metagross are not required and you can choose any Pokemon you like. (AP) If you and if you are not surere not sure of which Pokemon to use, (AC) the in-game tier guide can help shed some light! You might have to change the team composition to your liking as this team is just an example in terms of what moves you could use and the synergy. (AP)

For consistency, I think it would be best to format these sets using the standard showdown/smogdex format. For example:

Abomasnow @ Abomasite

Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Blizzard
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast

- Substitute

View attachment 267423
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Dragon Claw
nature: Modest or Timid
ability: Levitate
item: Soul Dew or Lum Berry
evs: 4 HP / 252 Sp. Atk / 252 Speed
With Latios's Calm Mind and three offensive moves it, (AC) Latios can become a terrifying force. I personally went Lum Berry as status is bad and to counterrifying when you get them status. Latios can be brought in should you predict a gGround-type move foragainst Metagross. With Latios's Ground immunity, (AC) it can safely enter battle without worry.

move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Explosion
move 4: Earthquake

item: Choice Band
evs: 4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Defense
With Metagross's immense Attack stat it can bring an explosive victory to you should you decide to blow it up.... (RP)I mean use the move Explosion. With Meteor Mass beingh provides Metagross's STAB move, (AC) and being supported by its base 135 Attack, (AC) it can pack quite a punch. Shadow Ball is here to protect Latios against Ghost-types as itMetagross can switch- in (RH) should Latios have an unfavorable type matchup.

move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Hydro Pump / Roar / Refresh
move 4: Protect
nature: Relaxed
ability: Torrent
item: Leftovers
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Defense / 44 Special Defense
With Swampert's unique Ground- / Water-typing it hagrants ithe immunity to Electric-type attacks which is very helpful. Ice Beam is here to help you against Dragon-type Pokemon to mostly helpaid Latios. Refresh is used if Swampert has ato remove unfavorable status ailments it can remove it. Protect can be used to gain some more health back, (AC) as you never know if that extra little bit of HP can save youthe match!

You use the same sentence structure quite a bit so I switched it up in the first sentence.

Overall, the team composition of Latios, Swampert, and Metagross has their flaws, but if used properly they can help you obtain your ribbons. A briefIn summary is, (AC) Latios is here to be switched for Metagross given you can predict a ged Ground-type move for Metagross. While Metagross can be brought in for Latios and it can follow up with a Shadow Ball as necessary. (might not always wanna use SB) Swampert can be switched in for Metagross should you face a Fire-type that outspeeds itMetagross, (AC) as Swampert can counter with Earthquake or Hydro Miss....(RP)er,(AC) I mean Hydro Pump. Lastly, it is recommended that you properly EV train your Pokemon and; (AS) if you are unsure of how to do so, (AC) please refer to the on-site guide of Effort Value training, (AC) which was created by Jubilee! Now it is time to move to Generation IV for some more rRibbon fun.

Generation IV

In Generation IV yYou can acquire a staggering 39 Ribbons for a total of 66 in Generation IV! 7Seven are the weekly rRibbons that you obtain by talking to an NPC in Sunyshore City, beating the Elite Four, and the Best Friend rRibbon (Route 213), (AC) which is available in Generation IV, VI, and VII. The expensivNew as well are the purhcaseable ones and the one received by defeating Red at the top of Mt. Silver in HeartGold (RS) or SoulSilver (RS). The main portion of the ribbons are from the contest hall in Hearthome City (20) and the Battle Frontier...again (RS). I would recommend waiting on the expensive ribbons as they make a return in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Below are all of the Generation IV Ribbons:

again, make sure all of your "achievements" are of the form "[X]ing etc etc". For example, gorgeous ribbon should change.

The same rules apply to contests as it did in Hoenn, but Sinnoh added a few unique things to it: Ddressing up your Pokemon, dancing, and Poffins replacing PokéBblocks. Things are a little bit easier due to having more moves and access to various move tutors that are scattered across the Sinnoh region.

Poffins:
In order to obtain Poffins, you need the Poffin Case, (AC) which, (RC) you can grab from the Pokemon Fan Club Chairman in Hearthome City. I'd recommend doing this in Platinum version, (AC) as you can buy level 32 Poffins with 20 smoothness from the Veilstone Dept. Store B1F. if dept is abbreviated in the game, ok. Otherwise, spell it out.

Contest Scarfs:
In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, (AC) they introduced some new held items in the form of scarfs:
  • Red Scarf
  • Blue Scarf
  • Pink Scarf
  • Green Scarf
  • Yellow Scarf
The scarfs (RA) help in each of the 5 categories stated above. If you want to be a Top Coordinator you will need to master three sections: Visual, Dancing, and Action Competitons!

In the Super Contest in Sinnoh, (AC) there are three rounds that you have to do: Visual, Dancing, and Acting, (AC) as described below.

Visual Competition:

In this part the player is required to dress up their Pokemon to a certain "theme" that which the announcer states as the competitors head to their dressing rooms.

Dancing Competition:

In this round all four Pokemon are gathered on-stage to give a little dance by pressing Left, Right, Front, and Jump. You can use the A, B, Y, and X buttons in addition to the touch screen to control your Pokemon. The lead dancer chooses up three steps in Normal and Great Rank (DP), and four in the Great (Pt), Ultra, (AC) and Master Rank. (AP) The key is to matching the tempo as closely as possible.

Acting Competition:
In Sinnoh, (AC) it the Super Contest has 4 rounds and not 5 like the Hoenn contest did. At the end of each round the The judges award the following points at the end of each round:
  • 3 if only one Pokemon Performed performed to them the same judge
  • 2 if two Pokemon performed to them the same judge
  • 1 if three Pokemon performed to them the same judge
  • None 0 if all 4 Pokemon performed to the same judge
It is best just like how in Hoenn to use contest-specific moves. S, (AC) such as using a Tough move in a Tough contest whichto increases the voltage (noted by a yellow star above the NPC's (AP) head). Using an incompatible move, (AC) such as a Smart move in a Tough contest, (AC) will lower the voltage. If you can get the maximum voltage to Jordan and Keira, (AC) your Pokemon gets +5 and +8 from Dexter (head judge).

Battle Frontier
These are the following bBattle rRibbons thatwhich you can obtain:

RibbonNameAchievement

Unfortunately, the last rRibbon, the "World Ability Ribbon", (AC) is no longer available due to the Wi-Fi connection being shut down. In order to have the best odds at obtaining the above rRibbons, (AC) I would recommend looking at the 4th Generation Battle Facilities Discussion and Records, (AC) as here you can find sample teams that other users have used. This link also has other useful information that might help give some insight forwhich other things as well. Similarly from Generation III husers have used. Having your Pokemon properly EV trained can greatly boost your overall odds of winning. Please refer to the on-site guide of The 4th Generation EVing Manual by Erodent. This guide effectively describes on how EVs work and what EVs you should invest depending on the Pokemon you are using. Whether it is a fast physical sweeper or a physical wall. Thankfully, (AC) Generation V has no ribbons, so we are making will make a trip to Kalos next!

Multi-Generation Ribbon:

The Effort Value Ribbon is available in Sinnoh. You can find the NPC at the Sunyshore City Seal Shop. Just know that, (AC) from here on out, (AC) some ribbons are repeats and you do not need to get them because you have them all ready already! These are called the Multi-Generation Ribbons that were once previously available in a different generation. Keep this in mind as you progress through your journey!

Generation VI

Starting from Generation VI, (AC) all of your Contest Ribbons plus and Battle Tower ribbons will consolidate into one of two types:

RibbonNameHow to Obtain
Contest Memory Ribbon (Blue)Transfer a Pokemon that had the regular Contest Ribbons from RSE or Super Contest from DPPt (not every Ribbon)
Contest Memory Ribbon (Gold)Transfer a Pokemon who had all of the Contest Ribbons from RSE and the Super Contest Ribbons from DPPt (All Contest all contest Ribbons)
Battle Memory Ribbon (Blue)Transfer a Pokemon that had Ribbons from the Battle Tower in HGSS or DPPt (not every Battle Tower Ribbon)
Battle Memory Ribbon (Gold)Transfer a Pokemon who had all of the Battle Tower Ribbons from RSE, DPPt / HGSS (All all Battle Tower Ribbons)

Starting from Generation VI, (AC) your Pokemon does not need to participate in any of the battles in order to obtain the Ribbon. They simply must be in the party to obtain it! which battles is this referring to? Should specify.

In Pokemon X and Y tThere are five new ribbons that you can obtain in Pokemon X and Y:

RibbonNameAchievement (How to Obtain)Region
Kalos ChampionBeat the Champion and enter the Hall of FameKalos
Training RibbonGolded every Hyper Training (HT) exerciseLumiose Cafe (Kalos)
Skillful BattlerBeat a Battle Maison - 20 winsKalos or Hoenn (ORAS)
Expert BattlerBeat a Battle Maison - 50 winsKalos or Hoenn (ORAS)
Best FriendsAcquired Max max affection in Pokemon AmieKalos (Bonnie at the Lumiose City Centrico Plaza)

If you are struggling with the Battle Ribbons, (AC) I would suggest checking out the Battle Maison thread, (AC) which that can help give advice on the various trainers.

Multi-Generation Ribbons:
  • Weekly Ribbons
    • Alert (Monday) - Ambrette Town
    • Shock (Tuesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Downcast (Wednesday) - Ambrette Town

    • Smile (Sunday) - Ambrette Town
  • Effort Value
    • Laverre City
  • Footprint Ribbon
    • Shalour City
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Contests have been quite literally watered down compared to the previous generations. A, (AC) as there is no longer any "feel" and "level" mechanic. In addition, only the Master Rank gives out a rRibbon, (AC) which in turn allows another Pokemon to head straight to the Master Rank competition instead of having to do each contest individually prior to reaching the Master Rank. Your Pokemon also no longer gets "full", (AC) so just shovefeeding thosem Pokeblocks or PokeBblock+ downto max out their throats and max them out categories. kinda violent... Unfortunately, it is a 70/30 shot of getting a PokéBblock or PokéBblock+, respectively, by usblending 4 Berries of the same type and putting them in the blender.

Here are all of the Ribbons that are exclusive to the Hoenn Region (ORAS only):

Now, (AC) in the guide please look for "Fast Money" secthis on-site guide, which will describe to you on how you can rack in the dough and become a rich Pokemon Trainer. I wish this worked in real life. too informal.

This wraps up the Generation VI Ribbons section, (AC) and now it is time to move over seas once again to the beautiful sub-tropical paradise called the Alola Rregion.

Generation VII

Welcome to the Alola Rregion! Here wWe have four more Ribbons that need to be attached to our poor Ribbon Master Pokemon.. I feel bad for them. Anyways h (RP)Here are the Ribbons in Generation VII:

probably don't wanna make what we're doing sound like a bad thing.

Battle Royal Master Ribbon

All Pokemon here will be forced to level 50, so your level 100 Ribbon Master will be level 50 temporarily. However, if your Pokemon are under level 50, (AC) they will remain at that level. The battles end when after all of any one Trainer's Pokemon have fainted. The winner is determined onby the number of KO points they earned and the number of their remaining conscious Pokemon. Should there be a tie, the victor is decided upon whose Pokemon has the highest remaining hit points available. Below are the following ranks:
  • Normal Rank
  • Super Rank
  • Hyper Rank
  • Master Rank
With eEach successive victory in a previous rank it allows you to challenge the next highest rank before reaching the Master Rank. Here you face the "Masked Royal", but between us we all know who it is, right.? Upon the defeat of the Masked Royal, (AC) your team (even if the Pokemon did nothing) will receive the Battle Royal Master Ribbon.

Some (AS) things to keep in mind while challenging ithe Battle Royal ids to have a diverse team and move set. Try not to switch your Pokemon, (AC) as they may potentially be targeted and KOed easily. Be weary of spread moves such as Surf as there are Pokemon, (AC) as the damage is reduce even furtherd with three Pokemon in battle. That is all the info you need to succeed at the Battle Royal. I wish you the best of luck!

Battle Tree Ribbons

To obtain the Battle Tree Great Ribbon and the Battle Tree Master Ribbon, (AC) you need to beat Red or Blue. The Battle Tree Great Ribbon requires you wineed 20 consecutive regular battles and beat a Battle Legend and t. (AP) The Battle Tree Master Ribbon requires you needto achieve 50 wins in a super battle. One thing to keep in mind while climbing the tree is that the various Trainers andopposing Pokemon will have different items, and abilities, etc. So, it is best to be on your guard as loosing can be rough as you progress. If it's worth saying, do so. Etc is vague. That is everything you need to know about Generation VII's Ribbons. If you are having a difficult time, (AC) please join the Battle Facilities Discord server and to check out the Battle Tree Discussion and Records thread. The discord server you can findontains veteran players who can help you furthersucceed, (AC) and the Fforum post can give outrovides sample teams as well as some more advice too! With that we wrap up Alola, (AC) so pack your gear and head on over to Galar!

Generation VIII

If you have made it this far you are in the homestretch (RS)! Welcome to the Galar Region region. Here we have three new ribbons:
RibbonNameAchievement (How to Obtain)
Galar ChampionWin the Champion Cup
Tower MasterDefeat the former Champion (Leon) at the Master Ball Tier - Wyndon Battle Tower
Ranked MasterDefeat an opponent at the Master Ball Tier - Ranked Battles

Multi-Generation Ribbons
  • Best Friends Ribbon

  • Effort Value
    • In Hammerlocke, (AC) right of the Pokémon Center
Conclusion

Before I bring this guide to a close, (AC) if you are curious on how to bring your Ribbon Master across the Ggenerations, (AC) I would highly recommend reading this guide called the Pokemon Transfer Guide, (AC) which was also created by me, (AC) Light Sanctity. If you managed to make it this far, (AC) I congratulate you on a job well done. This is the longest possible journey a Pokemon can take! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!

Ribbons Guide

In this guide,(AC) I will be discussing all of the possible ribbons a Pokemon can possess starting from Generation III all the way to Generation VIII. There are 3 categories Ribbons ribbons fall under: Contest ribbons, Battle Ribbons, and Miscellaneous Ribbons. Some people collect them due to personal reasons or perhaps as a challenge to obtain all the in-game ribbons of them. These Pokemon are what we call "Ribbon Masters". Now,(AC) without further delay let us begin this journey together!

Generation III
In Generation III, a Pokemon can have a total of 27 Ribbons,(AC) given that they were a Shadow Pokemon coming from Pokemon Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness and are level 50 or below. Any higher level would prevent them from participating in the Level 50 bracket of the Battle Tower. They would have a maximum of 25 Ribbons if they came from another game as a non-Shadow Pokemon and they are higher than level 50.

Below are the ribbons you can have in Generation III:

Pokeblocks:
For During contests,(AC) your Pokemon will be judged on 5 unique traits and, they which are the following:
  • Coolness (orange)
  • Beauty (blue)
  • Cuteness (pink)
  • Smart Cleverness (green)
  • Toughness (yellow)

The best way to ensure success in your contest hunting is to give your Pokemon Pokéblocks. These little gems candies are what will give you the edge over your competitors and hopefully will allow you to get first place. In order to obtain these Pokéblocks, you will need to get the Pokéblock Case from a young girl at the Slateport City contest foyer,(AC) or the Lilycove City contest foyer in Emerald. However, in Emerald you obtain it at the Lilycove City contest foyer instead.(RP) You obtain can make Pokéblocks by using berries taking part in Berry Blending (more specific imo) in the Lilycove contest hall foyer. Below shows are the flavors, preferences, and dislikes based on the Pokemon's nature. Lastly, neutral natures are, for a lack of a better term, neutral to the flavors.

FlavorPrefersDislike
Spicy (Red)Adamant, Brave, Lonely, NaughtyBold, Calm, Modest, Timid
Sour (Yellow)Bold, Impish, Lax, RelaxedGentle, Hasty, Lonely, Mild
Dry (Blue)Mild, Quiet, Modest, RashAdamant, Careful, Impish, Jolly
Bitter (Green)Calm, Careful, Gentle, SassyLax, Naive, Naughty, Rash
Sweet (Pink)Hasty, Jolly, Naive, TimidBrave, Quiet, Relaxed, Sassy

Contests:

In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire contests based off are divided into four ranks,(AC) which are spread throughout the Hoenn region. They are located at Verdanturf (Normal Rank), Fallarbor (Super Rank), Slateport (Hyper Rank), and finally Lilycove (Master Rank). In Emerald,(AC) this was changed so all the contests are held in one area,(AC) and that is at the Lilycove City contest hall! Winning a lower-tier contest (RC) such as Normal,(RC) allows you to enter a higher rank,(RC) like Super,(AC) and so on. Your Pokemon will be judged based off on five unique characteristics - Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Smart Cleverness, and Toughness. Each category has a sub-category where your Pokemon will not be penalized for using an incompatible move in the second round. Below shows are the primary and secondary category by categories under which they will be judged:

CategoryPrimarySecondary
CoolnessCoolnessBeauty and Toughness
ToughnessToughnessCoolness and Smart Cleverness
BeautyBeautyCoolness and Cuteness
Smart ClevernessSmart ClevernessCuteness and Toughness
CutenessCutenessBeauty and Smart Cleverness

For each of the 5 contest types, the judges compare how you stand up to the other contestants. So, if you have a high Tough rating for example, you will score higher than everyone else in the first round of the Tough contest! The second round is where everything comes together. Here, you must appeal to the crowd by instructing your Pokemon to use one of its known 4 moves. It is highly recommended to use moves that match the table above based off on the category you are in, as this will greatly improve your potential to win. A couple of things to be aware of in contests are :(Aco) try not use the same move twice in a row (greyed out moves), but if a move is red use it! Using a red move will double your score that turn, and it is what is called a combo. The scoring is based off of the following:

  • You will receive hearts based off on how "appealing" the move was.
  • The appeal of your opponents' moves will decrease depending on how many black hearts appear under "Jam".
  • Bonus: if you managed manage to wow the crowd by using a combo or a move associated with the category, you can obtain more points.
In order to obtain the Artist Ribbon, you need to talk to the Artist NPC at the museum in Lilycove City.

Battle Tower (or Battle Frontier)

You can challenge the Battle Tower in either Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.(RP) ,(AC) with Ruby and Sapphire being the easier of the two compared to Emerald. As I mentioned above, there are two brackets: Level 50 and Open Level. In the Tower for Level 50 former, the highest leveled Pokemon will be level 50. However, in the Open Level, the pre-set level will be a level 60 Pokemon. So, to explain further, assume assuming you have a level 65 Entei, a level 60 Zapdos, and a level 25 Pikachu. Due to Entei's level being past the pre-set level of 60, all Trainer's trainer's Pokemon will match Entei's level of 65, and the other two Pokemon's level in your party will stay the same. In addition, only the three Pokemon you choose to use for battle will obtain the Ribbon. Here is an example of a team I used to clear complete the Battle Tower:

  • Latios
  • Swampert
  • Metagross

You are probably wondering why two post-game Pokemon and a starter Pokemon, right? Well, truth be told,(AC) I thought these three had the best synergy with one another. If you want to know more about these three, please refer to the in-game tiers. This on-site guide was created by Fireburn and Blue Frog,(AC) so thank you both for your hard work. Please know that Latios, Swampert, and Metagross are not required and you can choose any Pokemon you like. If you are not sure of which Pokemon to use, the in-game tier guide can help shed some light! You might have to change the team composition to your liking as this team is just an example. (Unnecessary)

Latios @ Lum Berry / Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest / Timid
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Claw
- Psychic

With Latios's its Calm Mind and three offensive moves + 3 attacks set, Latios can become a terrifying force. I personally went with Lum Berry to counter status effects. Thanks to its ability Levitate that grants it a Ground immunity,(AC) Latios can be brought in should you predict a on a predicted Ground-type move against Metagross.(RP) With Latios's Ground immunity, it can safely enter battle without worry.

Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Adamant
Evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
- Meteor Mash
- Shadow Ball
- Explosion
- Earthquake

Metagross's immense Attack stat can bring an explosive victory to you should you decide to blow it up... I mean,(AC) use the move Explosion. Meteor Mash provides Metagross's is its main STAB move, and being supported by its base 135 Attack,(RC) it can pack quite a punch. Shadow Ball is here to protect Latios against Ghost-types,(AC) as Metagross can switch-in switch in should Latios have an unfavorable type matchup.

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Evs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpDef
Nature: Brave / Relaxed
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump / Roar / Refresh
- Protect

Swampert's unique Ground/Water typing grants it immunity to Electric-type attacks. Ice Beam is here to help against Dragon-type Pokemon to aid Latios. Refresh is used to remove unfavorable status ailments. Protect can be used to gain some more health back, as you never know if that extra little bit of HP can save the match!

In summary, Latios is here to be switched for Metagross come in on predicted Ground-types type attacks. Metagross can be brought in for Latios and can follow up with a Shadow Ball as if necessary. Swampert can be switched in for Metagross should you face a Fire-type that outspeeds Metagross, as Swampert can counter check it with Earthquake or Hydro Miss...err, I mean Hydro Pump. Lastly, it is recommended that you properly EV train your Pokemon; if you are unsure of how to do so, please refer to the on-site guide of to Effort Value training, which was created by Jubilee! Now it is time to move to Generation IV for some more Ribbon fun.

Generation IV

You can acquire a staggering 39 Ribbons in Generation IV,(AC) for a total of 66 in Generation IV! Seven are the weekly Ribbons that you obtain by talking to an NPC in Sunyshore City, one is for beating the Elite Four, and then there's the Best Friend Ribbon (Route 213), which is available in Generation IV, VI, and VII. New as well are the purhcaseable purchasable ones and the one received by defeating Red at the top of Mt. Silver in Heart Gold or Soul Silver HGSS. The main portion of the ribbons are is obtained from the contest hall in Hearthome City (20) and the Battle Frontier...again. I would recommend waiting on the expensive ribbons,(AC) as they make a return in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Below are all of the Generation IV Ribbons ribbons:

The same rules for contests in Hoenn apply to contests as it did in Hoenn here, but Sinnoh added a few unique things to it: dressing up your Pokemon, dancing, and Poffins replacing Pokéblocks. Things are a little bit easier due to Pokemon having more moves and access to the presence of various move tutors scattered across the Sinnoh region.

In this part the player is required to dress up their Pokemon to depending on a certain "theme",(AC) which the announcer states as the competitors head to their dressing rooms.

Dancing Competition:

In this round all four Pokemon are gathered on-stage on the stage to give a little dance by pressing Left, Right, Front, and Jump.

It is best to use contest-specific moves, such as using a Tough move in a Tough contest moves matching the category of the contest to increase the voltage (noted by a yellow star above the NPC's head). Using an incompatible move, such as a Smart move in a Tough contest, will lower the voltage. If you can get the maximum voltage to Jordan and Keira, your Pokemon gets +5 from Jordan and Keira and +8 from Dexter (head judge).

Battle Frontier
These are the Battle Ribbons which you can obtain:

RibbonNameAchievement
Ability Ribbon.png
Ability RibbonDefeat Arena Tycoon Palmer after 21 consecutive matches
Great Ability Ribbon.png
Great Ability RibbonDefeat Palmer after 49 consecutive matches
Double Ability Ribbon.png
Double Ability RibbonWin 50 matches in the double Battle Mode

Multi Ability RibbonWin 50 matches with a controlled NPC in the Multi Battle Mode
Pair Ability Ribbon.png
Pair Ability RibbonWin 50 consecutive battles with two players
World Ability Ribbon.png
World Ability RibbonAttain Rank 5 at the Wi-Fi Battle Room

Unfortunately, the last Ribbon, the "World Ability Ribbon", is no longer available due to the Wi-Fi connection being shut down. In order to have the best odds at obtaining the above Ribbons ribbons, I would recommend looking at the 4th Generation Battle Facilities Discussion and Records, as you can find sample teams which that other users have used. Having your Pokemon properly EV trained can greatly boost your overall odds of winning. Please refer to the on-site guide of The 4th Generation EVing Manual by Erodent. This guide effectively describes on how EVs work and what EVs you should invest depending on the Pokemon you are using.

Starting from Generation VI, your Pokemon does not need to participate in any of the battles in order to obtain the Ribbon ribbons. They simply must be in the party when you challenge the Battle Maison in Kalos or Hoenn to obtain it! Battle ones such as the Battle Maison in Kalos or Hoenn.

Best FriendsAcquired max affection in Pokemon AmieKalos (Bonnie at the Lumiose City Centrico Plaza)

If you are struggling with the Battle Ribbons, I would suggest checking out the Battle Maison thread, which can give advice on the various trainers.

Multi-Generation Ribbons:
  • Weekly Ribbons
    • Alert (Monday) - Ambrette Town
    • Shock (Tuesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Downcast (Wednesday) - Ambrette Town
    • Careless (Thursday) - Ambrette Town

    • Snooze (Saturday) - Ambrette Town
    • Smile (Sunday) - Ambrette Town
  • Effort Value
    • Laverre City
  • Footprint Ribbon
    • Shalour City
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Contests have been quite literally watered down compared to the previous generations, as there is no longer any "feel" and "level" mechanic. In addition, only the Master Rank gives out a Ribbon, which in turn allows another Pokemon to head straight to the Master Rank competition instead of having to do each contest individually prior to reaching the Master Rank. Your Pokemon also no longer gets "full", so just feeding feed them Pokeblocks or Pokeblock+ to max out the categories. Unfortunately, it is a 70/30 shot there's only a 70% and 30% chance of getting a Pokéblock or Pokéblock+, respectively, by blending 4 Berries of the same type.

Here are all of the Ribbons that are exclusive to the Hoenn Region (ORAS only):
RibbonNameAchievement (How to obtain)

If you want an easy time to get getting the expensive Ribbons, please refer to in-game tips, which was created by Mambo and Imanalt. Thank you both! Now, in the guide,(AC) please look for the "Fast Money" section, which will describe how you can become a rich Pokemon Trainer.

This wraps up the Generation VI Ribbons section,(RC) and now Now it is time to move overseas once again to the beautiful sub-tropical paradise called the Alola region.

Generation VII

Welcome to the Alola region! We have four more Ribbons that need to be attached to our poor Ribbon Master Pokemon. Here are the Ribbons in Generation VII ribbons:

The battles end when all of a Trainer's the trainer's Pokemon have fainted. The winner is determined by the number of KO points they earned and the number of their remaining conscious healthy Pokemon. Should there be a tie, the victor winner is decided upon whose Pokemon has the highest remaining hit points available HP. Below are the following ranks:
  • Normal Rank
  • Super Rank
  • Hyper Rank
  • Master Rank
Each victory allows you to challenge the next highest rank before reaching the Master Rank. Here,(AC) you face the "Masked Royal", but between us ,(AC) we all know who it is, right? Upon the defeat of the Masked Royal, your team (even if the Pokemon did nothing) will receive the Battle Royal Master Ribbon.

Some things to keep in mind while challenging the Battle Royal is to have a diverse team and move set moveset. Try not to switch your Pokemon, as they may be targeted and KOed easily. Be weary wary of spread multi-target moves such as Surf, as the damage its Base Power is reduced with three Pokemon in battle to 50%.

The discord Discord server contains veteran players who can help you succeed, and the forum provides sample teams as well as some more advice too! With that,(AC) we wrap up Alola, so pack your gear and head on over to Galar!

Generation VIII

If you have made it this far you are in the homestretch! Welcome to the Galar region. Here,(AC) we have three new ribbons:

If you managed to make it this far, I congratulate you! on a job well done.(RP) This is the longest possible journey a Pokemon can take! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!

I can HTML this, but the ribbons images look like they are from Serebii (based on the URL), so I am not sure if I can use them in the final production (though I will admit that I don't know what's the legality here or Smogon's policy for off-site resources, so if someone can clarify / has an alternative idea, please let me know, while I am HTMLing this).

<h2>Introduction</h2>

<p>In this guide, I will be discussing all of the possible ribbons a Pok&eacute;mon can possess starting from Generation III all the way to Generation VIII. There are 3 categories ribbons fall under: Contest ribbons, Battle Ribbons, and Miscellaneous Ribbons. Some people collect them due to personal reasons or perhaps as a challenge to obtain all of them. These Pok&eacute;mon are what we call "Ribbon Masters". Now, without further delay let us begin this journey together!</p>

<h2 id="gen3">Generation III</h2>

<p>In Generation III, a Pok&eacute;mon can have a total of 27 Ribbons, given that they were a Shadow Pok&eacute;mon coming from Pok&eacute;mon Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness and are level 50 or below. Any higher level would prevent them from participating in the Level 50 bracket of the Battle Tower. They would have a maximum of 25 Ribbons if they came from another game as a non-Shadow Pok&eacute;mon and they are higher than level 50.</p>

<p>Below are the ribbons you can have in Generation III:</p>

<h3 id="pokeblocks-gen3">Pok&eacute;blocks</h3>

<p>During contests, your Pok&eacute;mon will be judged on 5 unique traits and, which are the following:</p>

<ul>
    <li>Coolness (orange)</li>
    <li>Beauty (blue)</li>
    <li>Cuteness (pink)</li>
    <li>Cleverness (green)</li>
    <li>Toughness (yellow)</li>
</ul>

<p>The best way to ensure success in your contest hunting is to give your Pok&eacute;mon Pok&eacute;blocks. These little candies are what will give you the edge over your competitors and hopefully will allow you to get first place. In order to obtain these Pok&eacute;blocks, you will need to get the Pok&eacute;block Case from a young girl at the Slateport City contest foyer, or the Lilycove City contest foyer in Emerald. You can make Pok&eacute;blocks by taking part in Berry Blending in the Lilycove contest hall foyer. Below are the flavors, preferences, and dislikes based on the Pok&eacute;mon's nature. Lastly, neutral natures are, for a lack of a better term, neutral to the flavors.</p>

<h3 id="contests-gen3">Contests</h3>

<p>In Pok&eacute;mon Ruby and Sapphire contests are divided into four ranks, which are spread throughout the Hoenn region. Your Pok&eacute;mon will be judged based on five unique characteristics - Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness. Each category has a sub-category where your Pok&eacute;mon will not be penalized for using an incompatible move in the second round. Below are the primary and secondary categories under which they will be judged:</p>

<table class="rm-table">
    <tr>
        <th>Category</th>
        <th>Primary</th>
        <th>Secondary</th>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>Coolness</td>
        <td>Coolness</td>
        <td>Beauty and Toughness</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>Toughness</td>
        <td>Toughness</td>
        <td>Coolness and Cleverness</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>Beauty</td>
        <td>Beauty</td>
        <td>Coolness and Cuteness</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>Cleverness</td>
        <td>Cleverness</td>

    <tr>
        <td>Cuteness</td>
        <td>Cuteness</td>
        <td>Beauty and Cleverness</td>
    </tr>
</table>

<p>For each of the 5 contest types, the judges compare how you stand up to the other contestants. So, if you have a high Tough rating for example, you will score higher than everyone else in the first round of the Tough contest! The second round is where everything comes together. Here, you must appeal to the crowd by instructing your Pok&eacute;mon to use one of its 4 moves. The scoring is based of the following:</p>

<ul>
    <li>You will receive hearts based on how "appealing" the move was.</li>
    <li>The appeal of your opponents' moves will decrease depending on how many black hearts appear under "Jam".</li>
    <li>Bonus: if you manage to wow the crowd by using a combo or a move associated with the category, you can obtain more points.</li>
</ul>

<p>In order to obtain the Artist Ribbon, you need to talk to the Artist NPC at the museum in Lilycove City.</p>

<h3 id="battletower-gen3">Battle Tower (or Battle Frontier)</h3>

<p>You can challenge the Battle Tower in either Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald, with Ruby and Sapphire being the easier of the two compared to Emerald. As I mentioned above, there are two brackets: Level 50 and Open Level. In the former, the highest leveled Pok&eacute;mon will be level 50. However, in the Open Level, the pre-set level will be a level 60 Pok&eacute;mon. So, to explain further, assuming you have a level 65 Entei, a level 60 Zapdos, and a level 25 Pikachu. Due to Entei's level being past the pre-set level of 60, all trainer's Pok&eacute;mon will match Entei's level of 65, and the other two will stay the same. In addition, only the three Pok&eacute;mon you choose to use for battle will obtain the Ribbon. Here is an example of a team I used to complete the Battle Tower:</p>

<ul>
    <li>Latios</li>
    <li>Swampert</li>
    <li>Metagross</li>
</ul>

<p>You are probably wondering why two post-game Pok&eacute;mon and a starter Pok&eacute;mon, right? Well, truth be told, I thought these three had the best synergy with one another. If you want to know more about these three, please refer to the <a href="//www.smogon.com/ingame/guides/adv_rse_ingametiers" target="_blank">in-game tiers</a>. This on-site guide was created by <a href="/forums/members/29197/">Fireburn</a> and <a href="/forums/members/163333/">Blue Frog</a>, so thank you both for your hard work. Please know that Latios, Swampert, and Metagross are not required and you can choose any Pok&eacute;mon you like. If you are not sure of which Pok&eacute;mon to use, the in-game tier guide can help shed some light!</p>

<img src="//play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/gen3/latios.png" alt="Latios" />
<ul class="set">
    <li>Latios @ Lum Berry / Soul Dew</li>
    <li>Ability: Levitate</li>
    <li>EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe</li>
    <li>Nature: Modest / Timid</li>
    <li>- Calm Mind</li>
    <li>- Thunderbolt</li>
    <li>- Dragon Claw</li>
    <li>- Psychic</li>
</ul>

<p>With its Calm Mind + 3 attacks set, Latios can become a terrifying force. I personally went with Lum Berry to counter status effects. Thanks to its ability Levitate that grants it a Ground immunity, Latios can be brought in on a predicted Ground-type move against Metagross</p>

<img src="//play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/gen3/metagross.png" alt="Metagross" />
<ul class="set">
    <li>Metagross @ Choice Band</li>
    <li>Ability: Clear Body</li>
    <li>EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def</li>
    <li>Nature: Adamant</li>
    <li>- Meteor Mash</li>
    <li>- Shadow Ball</li>
    <li>- Explosion</li>
    <li>- Earthquake</li>
</ul>

<p>Metagross's immense Attack stat can bring an explosive victory to you should you decide to blow it up... I mean, use the move Explosion. Meteor Mash is its main STAB move, being supported by its base 135 Attack. Shadow Ball is here to protect Latios against Ghost-types, as Metagross can switch in should Latios have an unfavorable type matchup.</p>

<img src="//play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/gen3/swampert.png" alt="Swampert" />
<ul class="set">
    <li>Swampert @ Leftovers</li>
    <li>Ability: Torrent</li>
    <li>EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpDef</li>
    <li>Nature: Brave / Relaxed</li>
    <li>- Earthquake</li>
    <li>- Ice Beam</li>
    <li>- Hydro Pump / Roar / Refresh</li>
    <li>- Protect</li>
</ul>

<p>Swampert's unique Ground/Water typing grants it immunity to Electric-type attacks. Ice Beam is here to help against Dragon-type Pok&eacute;mon to aid Latios. Refresh is used to remove unfavorable status ailments. Protect can be used to gain some more health back, as you never know if that extra HP can save the match!</p>

<p>In summary, Latios is here to come in on predicted Ground-type attacks. Lastly, it is recommended that you properly EV train your Pok&eacute;mon; if you are unsure of how to do so, please refer to the on-site guide to Effort Value training, which was created by Jubilee! Now it is time to move to Generation IV for some more Ribbon fun.</p>

<p><a href="#toc">Back to top!</a></p>

<h2 id="gen4">Generation IV</h2>

<p>You can acquire a staggering 39 Ribbons in Generation IV, for a total of 66! Below are all of the Generation IV ribbons:</p>

<p>The same rules for contests in Hoenn apply here, but Sinnoh added a few unique things: dressing up your Pok&eacute;mon, dancing, and Poffins replacing Pok&eacute;blocks. Things are a little bit easier due to Pok&eacute;mon having more moves and the presence of various move tutors scattered across the Sinnoh region.</p>

<h3 id="poffins-gen4">Poffins</h3>

<p>In order to obtain Poffins, you need the Poffin Case, which you can grab from the Pok&eacute;mon Fan Club Chairman in Hearthome City. I'd recommend doing this in Platinum, as you can buy level 32 Poffins with 20 smoothness from the Veilstone Deptartment Store B1F.</p>

<h3 id="contestscarfs-gen4">Contest Scarfs</h3>
<p>In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, they introduced some new held items in the form of scarfs:</p>

<ul>
    <li>Red Scarf</li>
    <li>Blue Scarf</li>
    <li>Pink Scarf</li>
    <li>Green Scarf</li>
    <li>Yellow Scarf</li>
</ul>

<p>The scarfs help in each of the 5 categories stated above.</p>

<p>In the Super Contest in Sinnoh, there are three rounds that you have to do: Visual, Dancing, and Acting, as described below.</p>

<h3 id="visualcompetition-gen4">Visual Competition</h3>

<p>In this part the player is required to dress up their Pok&eacute;mon depending on a certain "theme", which the announcer states as the competitors head to their dressing rooms.</p>

<h3 id="dancingcompetition-gen4">Dancing Competition</h3>

<p>In this round all four Pok&eacute;mon are gathered on the stage to give a little dance by pressing Left, Right, Front, and Jump. You can use the A, B, Y, and X buttons in addition to the touch screen to control your Pok&eacute;mon. The lead dancer chooses up three steps in Normal and Great Rank (DP), and four in the Great (Pt), Ultra, and Master Rank.. The key is to match the tempo as closely as possible.</p>

<h3 id="actingcompetition-gen4">Acting Competition</h3>

<p>In Sinnoh, the Super Contest has 4 rounds and not 5 like the Hoenn contest did. The judges award the contestants with the following points at the end of each round:</p>

<ul class="ribbons">
    <li>3 if only one Pok&eacute;mon performed to the same judge</li>
    <li>2 if two Pok&eacute;mon performed to the same judge</li>
    <li>1 if three Pok&eacute;mon performed to the same judge</li>
    <li>0 if all 4 Pok&eacute;mon performed to the same judge</li>
</ul>

<p>It is best to use moves matching the category of the contest to increase the voltage (noted by a yellow star above the NPC's head). Using an incompatible move, such as a Smart move in a Tough contest, will lower the voltage. If you can get the maximum voltage, your Pok&eacute;mon gets +5 from Jordan and Keira and +8 from Dexter (head judge).</p>

<h3 id="battlefrontier-gen4">Battle Frontier</h3>

<p>These are the Battle Ribbons which you can obtain:</p>

<table class="rm-table nowrap">
    <tr>
        <th>Ribbon</th>
        <th>Name</th>
        <th>Achievement</th>
    </tr>

        <td>Ability Ribbon</td>
        <td>Defeat Arena Tycoon Palmer after 21 consecutive matches</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribbonabilitygreat.png" alt="Great Ability Ribbon" /></td>
        <td>Great Ability Ribbon</td>
        <td>Defeat Palmer after 49 consecutive matches</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribbonabilitydouble.png" alt="Double Ability Ribbon" /></td>
        <td>Double Ability Ribbon</td>
        <td>Win 50 matches in the double Battle Mode</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribbonabilitymulti.png" alt="Multi Ability Ribbon" /></td>
        <td>Multi Ability Ribbon</td>
        <td>Win 50 matches with a controlled NPC in the Multi Battle Mode</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribbonabilitypair.png" alt="Pair Ability Ribbon" /></td>
        <td>Pair Ability Ribbon</td>
        <td>Win 50 consecutive battles with two players</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribbonabilityworld.png" alt="World Ability Ribbon" /></td>
        <td>World Ability Ribbon</td>
        <td>Attain Rank 5 at the Wi-Fi Battle Room</td>
    </tr>
</table>

<p>Unfortunately, the last Ribbon, the "World Ability Ribbon", is no longer available due to the Wi-Fi connection being shut down. In order to have the best odds at obtaining the above ribbons, I would recommend looking at the <a href="/forums/threads/4th-generation-battle-facilities-discussion-and-records.3663294" target="_blank">4th Generation Battle Facilities Discussion and Records</a>, as you can find sample teams that other users have used. Having your Pok&eacute;mon properly EV trained can greatly boost your overall odds of winning. Please refer to the on-site guide <a href="//www.smogon.com/ingame/guides/ev_manual" target="_blank">The 4th Generation EVing Manual</a> by Erodent. This guide effectively describes how EVs work and what EVs you should invest depending on the Pok&eacute;mon you are using. Thankfully, Generation V has no ribbons, so we will make a trip to Kalos next!</p>

<h3 id="multigen-gen4">Multi-Generation Ribbon</h3>

<p>The Effort Value Ribbon is available in Sinnoh. You can find the NPC at the Sunyshore City Seal Shop. Just know that, from here on out, some ribbons are repeats and you do not need to get them because you have them already! These are called the Multi-Generation Ribbons. Keep this in mind as you progress through your journey!</p>

<p><a href="#toc">Back to top!</a></p>

<h2 id="gen6">Generation VI</h2>

<p>Starting from Generation VI, all of your Contest Ribbons and Battle Tower ribbons will consolidate into one of two types:</p>

<table class="rm-table nowrap">
    <tr>
        <th>Ribbon</th>
        <th>Name</th>

        <td>Contest Memory Ribbon (Blue)</td>
        <td>Transfer a Pok&eacute;mon that had the regular Contest Ribbons from RSE or Super Contest from DPPt (not every Ribbon)</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribboncountmemorycontest2.png" alt="Contest Memory Ribbon (Gold)" /></td>
        <td>Contest Memory Ribbon (Gold)</td>
        <td>Transfer a Pok&eacute;mon who had all of the Contest Ribbons from RSE and the Super Contest Ribbons from DPPt (all contest Ribbons)</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribboncountmemorybattle.png" alt="Contest Memory Ribbon (Blue)" /></td>
        <td>Battle Memory Ribbon (Blue)</td>
        <td>Transfer a Pok&eacute;mon that had Ribbons from the Battle Tower in HGSS or DPPt (not every Battle Tower Ribbon)</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribboncountmemorybattle2.png" alt="Contest Memory Ribbon (Gold)" /></td>

        <td>Transfer a Pok&eacute;mon who had all of the Battle Tower Ribbons from RSE, DPPt / HGSS (all Battle Tower Ribbons)</td>
    </tr>
</table>

<p>Starting from Generation VI, your Pok&eacute;mon does not need to participate in any of the battles in order to obtain the ribbons. They simply must be in the party when you challenge the Battle Maison in Kalos or Hoenn to obtain it!</p>

<p>There are five new ribbons that you can obtain in Pok&eacute;mon X and Y:</p>

<table class="rm-table nowrap">
    <tr>
        <th>Ribbon</th>
        <th>Name</th>

<p>Contests have been quite literally watered down compared to the previous generations, as there is no longer any "feel" and "level" mechanic. In addition, only the Master Rank gives out a Ribbon, which in turn allows another Pok&eacute;mon to head straight to the Master Rank competition instead of having to do each contest individually. Your Pok&eacute;mon also no longer gets "full", so just feed them Pok&eacute;blocks or Pok&eacute;block+ to max out the categories. Unfortunately, there's only a 70% and 30% chance of getting a Pok&eacute;block or Pok&eacute;block+, respectively, by blending 4 Berries of the same type.</p>

<p>Here are all of the Ribbons that are exclusive to the Hoenn Region (ORAS only):</p>

<p>This wraps up the Generation VI Ribbons section. Now it is time to move overseas once again to the beautiful sub-tropical paradise called the Alola region.</p>

<p><a href="#toc">Back to top!</a></p>

<hr />

<h2 id="gen7">Generation VII</h2>

<p>Welcome to the Alola region! We have four more Ribbons that need to be attached to our Ribbon Master Pok&eacute;mon. Here are the Generation VII ribbons:</p>

<table class="rm-table">
    <tr>
        <th>Ribbon</th>

        <td>Battle Master Royal</td>

    </tr>
    <tr>

        <td>Poni Island</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td><img src="/ingame/guides/ribbonbattletreemaster.png" alt="Battle Tree Master Ribbon" /></td>
        <td>Battle Tree Master</td>
        <td>Defeat Red or Blue in a Super Battle (Battle Legend)</td>
        <td>Poni Island</td>
    </tr>
</table>

<h3 id="multigen-gen7">Multi-Generation Ribbons</h3>
<ul class="ribbons">
    <li>Footprint Ribbon - Hano Grand Resort (Show a Pok&eacute;mon that has increased in level by 30)</li>
    <li>Effort Value Ribbon - Royal Avenue (Has 510 EVs)</li>
    <li>Best Friend Ribbon - Requires max affection in Pok&eacute;mon Amie - Malie City Community Center</li>
</ul>

<h3 id="battleroyal">Battle Royal Master Ribbon</h3>

<p>All Pok&eacute;mon here will be forced to stay at level 50, so your level 100 Ribbon Master will be level 50 temporarily. However, if your Pok&eacute;mon are under level 50, they will remain at that level. The battles end when all of the trainer's Pok&eacute;mon have fainted. The winner is determined by the number of KO points they earned and the number of their remaining healthy Pok&eacute;mon. Should there be a tie, the winner is decided upon whose Pok&eacute;mon has the highest remaining HP. Below are the following ranks:</p>

<ul>
    <li>Normal Rank</li>
    <li>Super Rank</li>
    <li>Hyper Rank</li>
    <li>Master Rank</li>
</ul>

<p>Each victory allows you to challenge the next highest rank before reaching the Master Rank. Here, you face the "Masked Royal", but between us, we all know who it is, right? Upon the defeat of the Masked Royal, your team (even if the Pok&eacute;mon did nothing) will receive the Battle Royal Master Ribbon.</p>

<p>Some things to keep in mind while challenging the Battle Royal is to have a diverse team and moveset. Try not to switch your Pok&eacute;mon, as they may be targeted and KOed easily. Be wary of multi-target moves such as Surf, as its Base Power is reduced to 50%. That is all the info you need to succeed at the Battle Royal. I wish you the best of luck!</p>

<h3 id="battletree">Battle Tree Ribbons</h3>

<p>To obtain the Battle Tree Great Ribbon and the Battle Tree Master Ribbon, you need to beat Red or Blue. The Battle Tree Great Ribbon requires you to win 20 consecutive regular battles and beat a Battle Legend. The Battle Tree Master Ribbon requires you to achieve 50 wins in a super battle. One thing to keep in mind while climbing the tree is that the opposing Pok&eacute;mon will have different items and abilities as you progress. That is everything you need to know about Generation VII's Ribbons. If you are having a difficult time, please join the <a href="//discord.com/invite/QrsE2ep" target="_blank">Battle Facilities</a> Discord server and check out the <a href="//www.smogon.com/forums/threads/battle-tree-discussion-and-records.3587215/">Battle Tree Discussion and Records</a> thread. The Discord server contains veteran players who can help you succeed, and the forum provides sample teams as well as some more advice too! With that, we wrap up Alola, so pack your gear and head over to Galar!</p>

<p><a href="#toc">Back to top!</a></p>

<p>If you have made it this far you are in the homestretch! Welcome to the Galar region. Here, we have three new ribbons:</p>

<h2>Conclusion</h2>

<p>Before I bring this guide to a close, if you are curious on how to bring your Ribbon Master across the generations, I would highly recommend reading the Pok&eacute;mon Transfer Guide, which was also created by me, Light Sanctity. If you managed to make it this far, I congratulate you! This is the longest possible journey a Pok&eacute;mon can take! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!</p>
few comments:

- I axed out the ribbons images as I mentioned in the post above. Shinyfinder informed me he'd talk with TDP to see if something can be done

- I made some miscellanous edits to make some parts of sections more consistent with how other things were formatted. Feel free to ask me why I did something or lmk if you want me to revert anything
