Monotype RMT Mono Ice (Dual Scarf)

This is my first RMT post. Been using this team for a while and it seems to work decently.

Ninetales-Alola (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Freeze-Dry
- Aurora Veil
- Nasty Plot

My usual lead. She sets up Aurora Veil giving the team some much needed dual screen support in one move. She is also good vs fighting teams, as she has a stab Moonblast and neutrality to fighting attacks. I put nasty plot in as a filler as I found I was not using Blizzard very much. Nasty plot helps immensely vs physical walls such as Mega-Sableye and Toxapex.

Kyurem-Black @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Teravolt
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Iron Head
- Earth Power

My physically biased wallbreaker/revenge killer. I chose choice scarf as I have had trouble running him with life orb due to speed issues. Outrage is for stab and hits absurdly hard. Most teams (aside mono fairy ofc) do not have a fairy type on them, so being locked into outrage is not always bad. Fusion bolt is for coverage. Iron Head is there to help with fairy teams as he is otherwise borderline useless vs them w/ this set. Earth power adds a bit more coverage and is great vs Electric Teams specifically Tapu Koko and Rotom Wash. After Zapados is gone, Kyurem-Black can spam Earth power and sweep thanks to Teravolt removing Rotom-Wash’s immunity to ground moves.

Weavile (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick

My revenge killer and anti-scarf Mon. I found when using life orb Weavile she wouldn't swap attacks often or be forced out due to a wall, or koed because of something faster. I had loads of trouble vs Scarf Nihilego, Scarf Terrakion, scarf Blacephalon, scarf Excadrill, etc. A stab Knock off does loads of damage to mons with items and can ohko Blacephalon whilst putting Nihilego and Excadrill, in range of being revenge killed and removing their scarf. Low kick has a 50% chance of ohkoing scarf Terrakion, meaning it can be revenge killed by hail or by Avalugg and his rocky helmet. I went with an Adamant nature has a higher base speed than these mons so I wanted some extra power. Ice shard is for occasional needed priority vs mons like Breloom.

Offensive Calcs:

252+ Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Blacephalon: 546-644 (221 - 260.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 298-352 (83 - 98%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 247-292 (68.4 - 80.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Weavile Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 296-350 (91.6 - 108.3%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Cloyster (M) @ White Herb
Ability: Skill Link
Shiny: Yes
- Hydro Pump
- Icicle Spear
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Shell Smash

This guy is the MVP of my team. This is my mixed sweeper. More often then not he is my win con. Hydro pump is for mons like Heatran, fire teams, or anything resisting ice and not 4x weak to fire. Icicle spear is for stab w/ skill link. Hidden power fire is for Ferrothorn, Scizor, and Fortress. The white herb is to help tank physical attacks better such as bullet punch, especially with aurora veil.

Offensive Calcs

+2 4 SpA Cloyster Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 360-428 (128.1 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 4 SpA Cloyster Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Scizor-Mega: 304-360 (108.1 - 128.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252 Atk Cloyster Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Ferrothorn: 260-315 (73.8 - 89.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 4 SpA Cloyster Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Ferrothorn: 200-236 (56.8 - 67%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 4 SpA Cloyster Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 279-328 (102.9 - 121%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Defensive Calcs

+2 252+ Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cloyster: 144-169 (59.7 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252+ Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cloyster with an ally's Aurora Veil: 72-84 (29.8 - 34.8%) -- 13.1% chance to 3HKO

252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cloyster: 95-113 (39.4 - 46.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

As seen here after a boost and white herb restoring his defenses he is very difficult to take out with physical priority attacks.

Avalugg @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Avalanche
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Roar

The great (physical) wall of the team. Avalugg is a must for most ice teams imo. His ability to tank physical hits is absurd, and having recover is amazing. He is also a good spinner, and can serve as an emergency special attacker phazer (Quiver Dance Volcarona for example) with full HP and sturdy. Rocky helmet is there to help wear down physical attackers that do not have recovery. This allows him to use recover while they either keep attacking and take damage or are forced to swap. If they try to boost he can just roar them away. Avalanche is there for damage/to not be taunt bait. It does decent damage if he is hit first. His greatest drawback is his abysmal special defense, so he often is forced out by special attacking mons.

Def Calcs:

252 Atk Lopunny-Mega Power-Up Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 66-78 (16.7 - 19.7%) -- guaranteed 6HKO

252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 182-216 (46.1 - 54.8%) -- 55.9% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Infernape Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 156-186 (39.5 - 47.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

With Aurora Veil:

252 Atk Lopunny-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg with an ally's Aurora Veil: 102-120 (25.8 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg with an ally's Aurora Veil: 91-108 (23 - 27.4%) -- 58.3% chance to 4HKO

252 Atk Choice Band Infernape Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg with an ally's Aurora Veil: 117-138 (29.6 - 35%) -- 13.4% chance to 3HKO

+2 252 Atk Gallade-Mega Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg with an ally's Aurora Veil: 216-255 (54.8 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Lapras (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Freeze-Dry
- Psychic
- Heal Bell

This is my newest addition, as I wasn't sure what to put for my last mon. I felt like I was lacking stronger special attack options, so I’ve added Lapras. Hydro Pump is for stab which does decent damage with specs. Freeze dry destroys water teams and can dent Toxapex significantly. Physic useful vs Fighting or Poison teams. Heal Bell is filler but can useful vs stall teams or Fairy with Klefki and Prankster T-wave. Overall I think Lapras is a useful addition as a special attacker and a good Ice mon to have vs Fire teams.

Offensive Calcs:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Lapras Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Torkoal in Sun: 294-348 (85.4 - 101.1%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Lapras Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Charizard-Mega-Y in Sun: 194-230 (65.3 - 77.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Lapras Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 588-692 (200.6 - 236.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Lapras Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 206-246 (67.7 - 80.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Lapras Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 520-616 (152.4 - 180.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Hi there nice team! I got a few ideas that might help you with some of the problems your team faces.

First, the only big one, I think you should use Piloswine instead of Weavile. The main reason is that you absolutely need Stealth Rock support, and Piloswine is the best defensive setter. The other issue is you already have Kyurem-B for speed control, and having two Choice Scarf users is quite excessive. Piloswine serves as a great wall for you, and it takes on a lot of the threats you're having trouble with. It walls Choice Scarf Nihilego completely, takes little from Blacephalon, and even checks Volcarona as well thanks to Rock Slide. Choice Scarf Terrakion and Excadrill can be checked by Avalugg anyway, so it's not like your team will suffer in that regard. Piloswine's Thick Fat, great bulk, and Stealth Rock support should be much more useful for you in the long run.

The rest of my suggestions are pretty minor changes just meant to optimize your sets.

Alolan Ninetales really wants Encore. Encore lets you mess with opposing entry hazard setters and prevents Pokemon from setting up on Alolan Ninetales. It's also great for random walls that can't really touch Alolan Ninetales after. I would suggest using Encore over Nasty Plot, as even with Nasty Plot, Alolan Ninetales really can't beat most walls anyway, which Encore does.

Kyurem-B should use Ice Beam instead of Iron Head. On your team, with Piloswine's help, Mega Diancie is not as big of a threat as it normally is. Ice Beam gives Kyurem-B BoltBeam coverage, which is incredibly helpful for hitting just about everything. You still have Earth Power to hit Mega Diancie and Rock-types anyway. With Ice Beam, Fusion Bolt, and Earth Power, most Fairy-types are still taking super effective damage. The thing is, Fairy teams typically aren't that weak to non-STAB Iron Head, as Tapu Koko, Azumarill, and Klefki all take neutral damage from it.

Cloyster doesn't have EVs! You'll want to use 92 Attack, 164 Special Attack, and 252 Speed EVs along with a Naive nature. This lets Cloyster be as fast as possible and deal serious damage with Hydro Pump. I would suggest you use Waterium Z to give Cloyster the breaking power to get past stuff like specially defensive Mega Scizor and a reliable nuke. White Herb is nice to get rid of the stat drops, but if Cloyster isn't strong enough, that small amount of bulk isn't useful. As a result, Waterium Z tends to be the best option here.

Finally, Lapras should replace Psychic with Hidden Power Fire so that it can beat defensive Mega Scizor and Ferrothorn for you. Psychic is tempting, but Poison teams can wall Lapras with Alolan Muk anyway, and Freeze-Dry is superior for hitting Toxapex on Water teams. It should also use Surf instead of Heal Bell. Surf gives Lapras a reliable attack that you can spam safely without worrying about accuracy. Heal Bell sadly just isn't that good utility for Ice, as the team is typically not defensive enough to take advantage of it. Finally, in order to outspeed Z-Belly Drum Azumarill so that Lapras can check it for you, you'll want to run 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe spread. You'll still be decently bulky thanks to Lapras's great base HP but now you can actually outspeed threats properly.

Hope that helps and good luck with the team!

Well Eien already fixed most of this stuff, so the only suggestions I have are for Cloyster:

Rock Blast over Hidden Power Fire on Cloyster. This will allow you to beat Mantine from full health, which is really important for the Flying matchup where Kyurem-B is forced into a lot of 50-50's. Hidden Power Fire is pretty much useless, since +2 Icicle Spear is doing similar damage to Ferrothorn, and Mega Scizor is already dealt with using Hydro Vortex. Hidden Power Fire just isn't worth using at all.

Also the spread for it is wrong. The actual best spread for it is 112 Atk / 144 SpA / 252 Spe with a Naive nature. This will allow it to always OHKO Choice Scarf Magnezone with a +2 Hydro Pump after Stealth Rock, which is important for when you want to save your Hydro Vortex for Mega Scizor.

I hope this helps!
