[Overview]

  • Roselia can reach fairly impressive defensive stats with proper investment.
  • Has a good support movepool to make use of these stats.
  • Poor typing, but can absorb Toxic Spikes.
  • Completely worthless in any offensive role.
  • Very slow.
[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Spikes / Toxic Spikes
move 2: Aromatherapy
move 3: Sleep Powder/Toxic
move 4: Leech Seed/Synthesis
item: Evolution Stone
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SpD

Set Description:

  • Roselia can be very bulky with an Evolution Stone. This allows it to survive impressive things like Roobushin's max Attack Stone Edge with HP to spare.
  • Its primary job is to set up entry hazards for the team. With its bulk, it can get several layers of Spikes in before fainting.
  • After that's done, Roselia makes a decent Seeder or Aromatherapist.
  • Sleep Powder is inaccurate, but it doesn't have much better to do.
  • Don't bother with Synthesis if you're not running Groudon.
Additional Comments:

  • Does best against more defensive Pokémon against whom Roselia can set up with impunity.
  • It should be noted that, due to a SE Brave Bird and phazing ability, Skarmory isn't one of these.
Teammates and Counters:

  • Roselia's ideal partners are fast, frail sweepers that appreciate Spikes.
  • Something that can bait Taunt-users and kill them off is also useful.
  • Zoroark cannot be recommended highly enough; it outspeeds most of Roselia's counters and can KO them with its high SpA and wide coverage, while its ability makes it the perfect bait. A lack of shared weaknesses is very useful, while Rapid Spinners like Starmie or Forretress that would switch in expecting an easy time are beaten by Zoroark's powerful attacks.

[Team Options]
  • Roselia really likes an anti-Spinner; its effort is wasted if something like Doryuuzu can come in and Spin all day.
  • In addition, it could see use with a teammate using Rest.
  • Groudon makes Synthesis viable.
[Optional Changes]

  • Roselia's other options are lacking.
  • Sleep Powder and Stun Spore are interesting but inaccurate.
  • A dedicated SubSeeder could probably use Ingrain.

[Counters]
  • Anything with Taunt can force Roselia to Struggle.
  • Other Grass-types can absorb Leech Seed, but can't necessarily KO Roselia before it gets up several layers of Spikes or Toxic Spikes.
  • Fast, powerful Fire-types can break Roselia's Substitutes in one blow and force it out or KO it.
[Dream World]
  • Technician is interesting, but Roselia's poor offensive stats make it not worth bothering with.

That set is trying to do too many things at the same time, keep it simple. Roselia is too slow to be a decent subseeder, drop substitute for an attack move (100 special attack is nice), that help you to deal with stuff like breloom, roselia is a nice check for him resisting both of his stabs, dealing 90.7% - 107.4% with sludge bomb, leaf storm is also a good choice giving you a OHKO against starmie
(106.2% - 125.9%) who maybe will try to spin your hazards. Also you should slash rest with leech seed giving roselia a a semi realiable recovey move and that will give you more chances to setup hazards, heal status and absorb toxic spikes

Wouldn't Calm with some SpDef investment (maybe a spread like 252 HP / 176 Def / 56 SpDef Calm) be a better choice than Bold, considering Roselia will usually be switching in on bulky waters/opposing grasses?

Sleep Powder and Stun Spore should be in the third slot, and Aromatherepy in the fourth. Inaccuracy be dammed, status is really useful, and they both have like three things they can't hit.

Rosey's too frail for Subseeding, anyway.

All right, I added Sleep Powder/Toxic to the main set, and slashed Synthesis in if you're running this with Groudon.

Also changed to a Specially Defensive build to make this a bit more useful in Ubers.

Someone else can write the prose analysis, if they'd like; I'll get to it eventually, but will be a bit busy in the coming days.

I know Roar/WW go through Sub in PO, but PO is KIND of broken. IIRC they don't in cartridge play...

No, they do in cartridges...
