[OVERVIEW]
Rotom-H's Defog, Nasty Plot, well rounded stats, and unique typing grant it a place in the metagame, either as a defensive Defogger and switch-in to Pokemon like Celesteela and Moltres or a fierce Nasty Plot wallbreaker capable of overwhelming checks like Seismitoad and Kommo-o after some chip damage. It distinguishes itself from Rotom-W by breaking through Grass-types like Amoonguss. Its typing also gives it the resistances to check Pokemon like Raikou, Celesteela, Moltres, and Mamoswine. However, Rotom-H lacks reliable recovery, meaning it can get overwhelmed when trying to check multiple foes like Moltres + Rotom-H. Pokemon it wants to switch into like Mamoswine, Tangrowth, and Thundurus can remove its Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off, and most entry hazard setters, including Seismitoad and Nihilego, can beat it, though Seismitoad fears Toxic. It has slight four-moveslot syndrome, as it wants Defog, Pain Split for recovery, and Toxic to cripple Pokemon that otherwise wall it like Gastrodon. It's also weak to Azumarill's Aqua Jet and outsped by various threats, such as Keldeo, Nihilego, and Lycanroc-D.
[SET]
name: Pivot
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Toxic / Defog
move 4: Pain Split
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Overheat and Volt Switch have good synergy, letting Rotom-H hit hard and then pivot. Toxic cripples most defensive answers to Rotom-H, such as Gastrodon, Rhyperior, and Seismitoad. Defog can be used against Pokemon Rotom-H forces out like Amoonguss, Jirachi, Celesteela, and Moltres. Pain Split serves as Rotom-H's only recovery tool, taking advantage of checks that can consistently recover their HP such as Assault Vest Reuniclus and Chansey. Heavy-Duty Boots lets Rotom-H get onto the field safely and more frequently. 216 Speed EVs are used to outspeed Jolly Gyarados.
Rotom-H fits on bulky offense and balance teams, which appreciate its ability to pivot and form a VoltTurn core with Pokemon like Zarude, remove entry hazards for teammates, and break through walls like Amoonguss. Amoonguss and Zarude make for great partners, destroying Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types like Gastrodon, Rhyperior, and Krookodile. In return, Rotom-H takes care of Steel- and Flying-types like Celesteela and Moltres. Krookodile is another exceptional teammate, as Rotom-H brings it in safely against foes like Nihilego and Assault Vest Reuniclus. Rotom-H also pressures Celesteela for Krookodile, and together they deal with Aegislash for teammates like Lycanroc-D and Nihilego. Steel-types like Aegislash and Jirachi cover Rotom-H's weakness to Rock-types like Nihilego and Lycanroc-D. Rotom-H can remove Steel-types like Celesteela and other checks like Amoonguss and Moltres for them. Wallbreakers that are frail or slow, like Lycanroc-D and Primarina, appreciate Rotom-H bringing them in safely against Pokemon such as Rotom-W, Kommo-o, and Salamence. Buzzwole and Tangrowth are secondary Ground-type answers that ease the pressure on Rotom-H to deal with Pokemon like Rhyperior and Seismitoad, as, despite Levitate, it can't deal well with them.
[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Overheat
move 3: Discharge
move 4: Pain Split
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Nasty Plot lets Rotom-H break through traditional checks such as Kommo-o. It also offsets Overheat's Special Attack drop, allowing Rotom-H to still threaten checks like Primarina. At +2, Discharge does big damage to Fire-resistant targets like Rotom-W and Salamence. Discharge's 30% paralysis chance is also great for crippling Nihilego and Salamence. Pain Split grants Rotom-H some longevity, giving it more opportunities to set up with Nasty Plot. Heavy-Duty Boots also gives it more setup opportunities. Maximum HP investment is more valued than Special Attack to take on Moltres and Jirachi better; Rotom-H can still OHKO foes like Celesteela, specially defensive Aegislash, and Assault Vest Tangrowth at +2. However, maximum Special Attack can be run to KO specially defensive Primarina after Stealth Rock and even bulkier foes like Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro and Reuniclus.
Nasty Plot Rotom-H shines in bulky offense and offense teams, where its powerful boosted hits remove or weaken walls, paving the way for other teammates to clean. VoltTurn support is appreciated, for this set lacks Volt Switch to keep momentum. U-turn Jirachi can provide safe opportunities for Rotom-H to set up against Steel-types like Aegislash and Celesteela. Krookodile makes for a reliable teammate, as it removes Nihilego and Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro and sets up Stealth Rock to weaken checks, while Rotom-H takes out Celesteela, Amoonguss, and Tapu Bulu. Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tangrowth switch into Water-types like Rotom-W, Primarina, and Keldeo for Rotom-H, with Amoonguss also acting as a Knock Off absorber. Zarude is a an amazing teammate, destroying Ground-types such as Gastrodon, Rhyperior, and Seismitoad, keeping momentum with U-turn, and revenge killing Pokemon that threaten Rotom-H such as Keldeo and Lycanroc-D when using Choice Scarf. Rotom-H in return removes Grass- and Steel-types like Tangrowth and Cobalion. Wallbreakers like Lycanroc-D, Mienshao, and Diggersby love Rotom-H destroying Pokemon like Buzzwole and Amoonguss. They can in return obliterate Chansey.

Other Options
=============
Choice Scarf + Trick cripples common Rotom-H answers like Chansey and Rhyperior and revenge kills +1 Gyarados. However, Trick sacrifices another valuable moveslot, and using Choice Scarf hampers Rotom-H's longevity by leaving it vulnerable to Stealth Rock. Will-O-Wisp can be used on the pivot set, as it cripples physical attackers like Salamence and Krookodile, but Toxic is more useful against defensive answers like Seismitoad and Rhyperior.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Chansey**: Chansey walls Rotom-H with its enormous special bulk, wears it down with Toxic, and keeps itself healthy with Soft-Boiled, but it has to be wary of Pain Split due to the huge amount of HP Rotom-H receives.
**Rock-types**: Lycanroc-D and Nihilego outspeed and OHKO Rotom-H. Nihilego is also a reliable switch-in to even +2 Rotom-H, but it is scared of Discharge's paralysis chance. Rhyperior can take +2 Overheat with relative ease and OHKO back with Stone Edge. Nihilego and Rhyperior can also set Stealth Rock in front of Rotom-H.
**Ground-types**: Seismitoad, Quagsire, and Gastrodon wall Rotom-H lacking Toxic. However, Seismitoad can still be overwhelmed by the Nasty Plot set after enough chip damage due to its lack of reliable recovery. Krookodile, Nidoqueen, and Mamoswine block Electric-type moves, including Volt Switch, and hit hard with their coverage moves, but they dislike taking Overheat.
**Water-types**: Keldeo outspeeds and OHKOes Rotom-H. Primarina and Rotom-W can take unboosted Discharge and OHKO Rotom-H back. Azumarill and Crawdaunt can revenge kill Rotom-H with Aqua Jet. However, none of them except Rotom-W want to risk switching directly into Volt Switch or Discharge, and Rotom-W is 2HKOed by +2 Discharge.
