[OVERVIEW]
Rotom-W makes a great pivot for offensive teams thanks to its good typing, bulk, and set versatility. It's immune to Ground-type attacks from Landorus-T, Gliscor, Sand Rush Excadrill, and Mamoswine and Spikes while also checking other popular threats like Heatran, Tornadus-T, Manaphy, and Greninja. Checking Ground-types and Heatran also makes it a good Defog user, since they are all very common Stealth Rock setters, and its lack of passivity compared to Defog users like Gliscor or Zapdos is important for offensive teams, featuring a decently strong Hydro Pump and Volt Switch to keep momentum. It's also great against rain teams, being one of the best answers to Mega Swampert and other rain threats like the aforementioned Greninja, Tornadus-T, and Manaphy. This defensive profile lets Rotom-W come in, force out Ground-types with Hydro Pump, and easily pivot in offensive teammates with Volt Switch while wearing down foes. Rotom-W can also burn switch-ins like Ferrothorn, Mega Latios, Mega Latias, and Tapu Bulu with Will-O-Wisp, punishing them without having to switch out. Will-O-Wisp is also great to reduce prediction, since most Pokemon that can switch into Hydro Pump or Volt Switch hate being burned. It can even run Waterium Z on its defensive set to OHKO Pokemon like Heatran, Gliscor, Garchomp, and Mega Charizard or run a more offensive set with Electrium Z that lures in and takes out bulky targets that would otherwise pivot into it, like Toxapex, Tapu Fini, and Manaphy. However, Rotom-W lacks reliable recovery, so it can sometimes struggle to pivot into what it needs to in the long run, especially if Wiki Berry Rotom-W gets hit by Knock Off from Pokemon it's meant to check, mainly Tornadus-T. Rotom-W is also vulnerable to Toxic from the Pokemon it's meant to switch into, namely Heatran and Gliscor. Lastly, while its bulk is good, it isn't good enough to comfortably answer very strong wallbreakers like Tapu Lele, Mega Mawile, and Mega Medicham.

Set Description
=========
Rotom-W is a good Defog user thanks to its good matchup against common entry hazard setters like Landorus-T, Heatran, Mega Tyranitar, Gliscor, and Greninja and ability to keep up momentum with Volt Switch. Besides providing recovery, Pain Split can punish healthy switch-ins due to Rotom-W's low base HP stat, especially Chansey, which is one of the most common switch-ins to Rotom-W on stall teams. Will-O-Wisp cripples some of its switch-ins like Tangrowth, Ferrothorn, Kyurem-B, Tapu Bulu, and Assault Vest Magearna. Toxic can be used over Defog, Pain Split, or Will-O-Wisp to more heavily cripple switch-ins that aren't as fazed by burn, like Tangrowth, Gastrodon, Serperior, Kommo-o, and Mega Latias. However, it doesn't do anything to Steel-types that check it like Ferrothorn and Magearna.
Rotom-W can run a fully physically defensive or specially defensive set, depending on what threats its team needs it to check more. A physically defensive spread lets it better check the Ground-types of the tier, most notably Swords Dance Gliscor, as well as miscellaneous threats like Hawlucha, Mega Pinsir, and Mega Scizor. It also avoids the OHKO from Mega Mawile's Play Rough and Mega Medicham's High Jump Kick. Meanwhile, a specially defensive spread lets it more efficiently pivot into Battle Bond Greninja, Mega Alakazam, Tapu Koko, and offensive Heatran. Wiki Berry is an alternative to Pain Split that doesn't cost a turn to use, helping Rotom-W preserve momentum, pivot wallbreakers in, and switch into attacks like Greninja's Dark Pulse even when worn down, which is especially good on offensive teams. It also saves the moveslot needed for Pain Split. Waterium Z, on the other hand, lets Rotom-W OHKO Pokemon it otherwise couldn't like Gliscor, Heatran, Mega Medicham, Mega Charizard X, and Mega Alakazam while heavily damaging others like Tapu Lele, offensive Magearna, and Garchomp.
Team Options
========
Tornadus-T can check Grass-types like Kartana, Serperior, and Tapu Bulu, run Defog so Rotom-W has an extra moveslot, and switch into Mega Medicham while also forming a VoltTurn core with Rotom-W. Rotom-W pivots into Ice-type moves from Weavile and Mega Latias while also answering Heatran in return. Mega Scizor can similarly check Grass-types and form a VoltTurn core with Rotom-W while also checking strong Psychic-types like Mega Alakazam, Mega Latios, and Mega Latias, with Rotom-W answering Heatran and Tornadus-T and using Defog to aid Mega Scizor's longevity. Heatran can answer Grass-types like Kartana and Serperior, handle Fairy-types like Tapu Lele and Magearna, and spread residual damage with Stealth Rock alongside Magma Storm and Toxic. Rotom-W can answer opposing Heatran, Ground-types like Gliscor and Landorus-T, and Water-types like Mega Swampert and Greninja in return while pivoting Heatran in safely on some of its targets, like Magearna and Ferrothorn, to preserve its health. Ferrothorn can be a sturdier Water-resistant Pokemon and Grass-type check while spreading residual damage with entry hazards and using Knock Off, removing Leftovers to make Rotom-W's Volt Switch damage stick, while Rotom-W checks Heatran and Tornadus-T. Assault Vest Magearna has amazing synergy with the physically defensive set, taking strong special attacks from Pokemon like Mega Alakazam, Mega Diancie, Mega Latios, Tapu Lele, and opposing offensive Magearna while enjoying Rotom-W taking on Fire- and Ground-types. It also appreciates Rotom-W keeping entry hazards off the field to make up for its lack of recovery. The two form a solid backbone for offensive teams against Ash-Greninja, since Magearna can take Dark Pulse, while Rotom-W can take Hydro Pump and clear the Spikes it sets. Ground-types like Gliscor and Landorus-T enjoy Rotom-W taking Water- and Ice-type attacks for them, with Gliscor able to act as a strong wincon with Swords Dance and absorb status from Heatran, while Landorus-T sets up Stealth Rock and forms a good VoltTurn core with it. Pursuit users like Mega Tyranitar and Weavile can trap checks like Mega Latios, Reuniclus, and Mega Latias, with Mega Tyranitar able to set up Stealth Rock, and Weavile using Knock Off to remove bulky targets' Leftovers so Rotom-W's Volt Switch damage sticks. Both appreciate it pivoting them in safely with Volt Switch and taking strong Water-type attacks for them. Volcarona appreciates Rotom-W keeping entry hazards off the field and answering Heatran and Water-types, and it takes advantage of Volt Switch pivoting to more easily set up Quiver Dance on Pokemon like Kartana, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Latias lacking Thunder Wave.
