Tyrantrum @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Superpower
Tyrantrum has surged in usage because of its access to an extremely powerful, recoil-free Head Smash, and Choice Band pushes Tyrantrum's power to new heights. Both of its STAB attacks are already absolute nukes, with Head Smash 2HKOing bulky Rock-resistant foes like Bronzong and OHKOing a huge part of the metagame. Earthquake lets Tyrantrum KO Doublade, Registeel, and Mega Steelix, the only relevant Pokemon not 2HKOed by a STAB attack, and Superpower hits many bulky Normal-, Steel-, Dark-, and Rock-types hard as well. Dragon Claw can be used over Superpower to provide Tyrantrum with a Dragon-type STAB option that doesn't prevent it from switching for 2-3 turns; (comma -> semicolon) however, this lowers Tyrantrum's wallbreaking potential and is generally not as useful. Tyrantrum works especially well on teams that appreciate its wallbreaking potential, so cleaners like Salazzle, Zygarde-10%, and Swellow are all optimal partners. Tyrantrum also struggles to switch in by itself, so pivots like Mandibuzz and Rotom-C can be effective to make the most out of Tyrantrum's decent defensive typing and average bulk. Tyrantrum is best used against slower, bulkier teams, as it smashes through them with ease.
