@ deleted posts, i understand it's entertaining to try and make fun of silly pokemon being used or weird trends but lets try to keep our posts insightful and conductive towards intelligent discussion.


in general, these stats seem a lot more 'representative' of what's good in the metagame than ladder stats, and unlike other tournament stats there's actually a pretty respectable sample size of ~670 battles so it's somewhat indicative of what the metagame is like. a lot of the pokemon that are generally noob traps such as eelektross have decreased a lot in usage. spiritomb and aromatisse are still a bit high but in general those kind of mons are lower in usage. i like that drapion is #7 in usage stats, it's such a good pokemon right now between SD being a reliable core breaker and scarf revenging many of the top threats.

it's also nice to see xatu and sawk in ru usage. xatu's a pretty cool pokemon that should be explored more, especially with vivillon (which atm has considerably less usage has xatu). meanwhile, sawk is a strong wallbreaker with an amazing safety net in sturdy which people have been sleeping on.

i have to say i'm surprised uxie is so high. uxie went up from #24 in the stats we use for tiering to #9 in these stats. i am a huge uxie fan and use it on a lot of my teams but i think 16% usage is prolly a bit too high. it can be worn down and it has issues vs teams with hazard removers backed by a solid defensive backbone. then again, solid hazard setters / hazard removers (as seen by flygon's 52% usage and diancie's 34% usage) tend to get a usage much more inflated than their actual 'worth' because there isn't a huge variety of them.

there are a few pokemon i think that probably should be utilized more like medicham, braviary, hitmonlee, aggron, gallade (this has like, fallen off the planet since BW) and dugtrio, but nothing really stands out as outright wrong on these stats.

looking forward to how these stats develop towards later rounds. of course, the sample size for each subsequent round will get much lower and thus more prone to specific player biases, but it's interesting to see what the winning teams are using.

Qwilfish usage is p surprising imo, spikes are really hard to run rn bc of Blastoise and Flygon. I also agree with above about uxie usage lol solid rocker that sits around I guess.

Flygon's usage towering well above everything else is unsurprising, but the sheer gap in usage between it and the rest of the top 10 is amusing. Diancie being in #2 and having a large gap with the next few things below it is kind of a surprise though, but it's probably the single most versatile Pokemon in RU atm, and its usage clearly shows just how easy it is to fit one of its many sets onto a team. It's also nice to see how Diancie and Registeel are still maintaining extremely high usage, with both having respectable win rates too (Registeel's almost bordering into the 60s, surpassing Alomomola even) despite the presence of Dugtrio and its ostensible "restrain" on teambuilding. Fletchinder having a low win rate doesn't seem like a shock since most teams I've seen pack two hard checks by default, but Meloetta's low win rate is strange since a lot of those Venu balance teams that are everywhere just seem to fold to it. It's weird to see something that matches up well w/a lot of current trends perform kinda poorly.

We talked a bit about this, but the win rates of Xatu and Sawk are also rather surprising. Even though Xatu was only used 25 times, it was able to win 76% of games which is incredibly good compared to most other "niche" mons. Sawk being used 46 times gave us a much better sample, and it being able to win 65% of games is definitely something to note. I also saw that Mega Camerupt and Escavalier had win rates significantly below 50% (Escav's being 43% and Camerupt's being 40%). This surprised me because of how well these pokemon do against fatter teams, and the infamous "regimola" core. Banded Escav knocks both of them off and 2hkos each one with the correct coverage move, and mega rupt rips through registeel and does a chunk to mola, but just has to be careful of mola running waterfall. I thought that their win rates would be at least above 50% in the current meta.

Seriously tho it's unsurprising that sawk has such a high win rate since imo it's like the best fighting type wallbreaker (more reliable than medicham since its STAB doesnt kill it trying to 2hko alomomola and it has knock off which is nice to lock into)

I just want to point out that just because something has a low win rate does not necessarily have to indicate a metagame trend, for example Mega Camel's win rate was 40% but it's still a good wallbreaker and corebreaker; a lot of people end up using crap like defensive or max hp (both garb sets imo) and that may be why their win rate is so low. I don't wanna shit on ppl but is you lose while using mega camerupt that doesn't make mega camerupt bad, maybe it was team mu or smth that fucked you over.

It's a shame that regular steelix usage isn't catching on, hopefully that'll change :/

Win percentage does kind of indicate how well a Pokemon is doing in the current meta though. Pokemon that are currently good in the meta are more likely to have a higher win percentage compared to something that is not very good atm. For example, fletch has a very low win percentage because everyone is bringing teams that are prepared for it (RegiMola, Diancie, Magneton, etc). The low win percentage of fletch means that it is not great in the meta. Does this mean that fletch is a bad Pokemon? No. It also doesn't mean that Fletchinder doesn't have its uses, it just means that it will have a harder time fulfilling its role. Win percentages may not always indicate metagame trends, but they usually do.

At what point do you consider a mon to be highly effective? If you look down in the numbers we see Audino is #58, but has an 87.50% (just as an example) Do we take it as having a genuine niche in the meta, or just some success in a few replays? There appears to be a correlation between usage and win rate that really sums up the current meta. I'm just curious what the opinions are as to what the effectively cut off is. You do see several 100% as you go lower on the list.
