[OVERVIEW]
Poison
========
Salazzle is a good addition to any Poison-type team thanks to its niche with Corrosion, being able to badly poison Steel- and Poison-type Pokemon such as Heatran and Toxapex. With Substitute and Toxic, it breaks balance and bulky teams with ease; however, since it relies on setting up Substitute to be effective, it is dead weight against offensive Pokemon after it gets off a Toxic. Due to Salazzle's ability Corrosion, it can be very useful in the Steel-, Poison-, and Water-type matchups, using Toxic threats to Poison teams such as Heatran and Toxapex. Due to its resistances to those types, Salazzle can also easily set up Substitutes in the Steel- and Poison-type matchups, freely spam Toxic, and KO weakened Pokemon with Flamethrower. However, Salazzle's typing only compounds Poison's weaknesses, though its part Fire typing does allow it to take on Steel-types such as Ferrothorn with Flamethrower. Also, due to its part Fire typing, Salazzle has a weakness to Stealth Rock, limiting the number of times it can switch in severely. Salazzle's below-average bulk makes its job of spreading status harder, as it has to rely on its Speed alone to get the job done. Salazzle also competes for the last team slot on Poison-type teams with Nidoking and Nihilego; furthermore, those two are Poison's Stealth Rock options, meaning if Salazzle is run another Pokemon will be forced to utilize Stealth Rock, limiting team coverage options. Doing so also leaves Poison teams without a powerful wallbreaker such as Nidoking for the Electric matchup, where it can beat Tapu Koko, or Nihilego for the Flying matchup, which can act as a powerful revenge killer.

Moves
========
Flamethrower lets Salazzle immediately threaten Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Celesteela, and Mega Scizor. Toxic allows Salazzle to cripple any Pokemon including Steel- and Poison-types such as Heatran and Mega Venusaur thanks to Corrosion. Protect allows Salazzle to scout attacks, gain Black Sludge recovery, and Toxic stall the opposing Pokemon. Substitute gives Salazzle a way to Toxic stall opposing Pokemon in tandem with Protect while also avoiding status such as Thunder Wave while also giving it a way to avoid weak attacks from walls such as Mega Venusaur.
Set Details
========
252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature make Salazzle as fast as possible, allowing it to outspeed Pokemon such as Keldeo and Choice Scarf Magnezone. An investment of 252 HP EVs maximizes Salazzle's bulk while providing longer-lasting Substitutes, and 4 EVs in Special Defense give Download users such as Porygon2 a boost to their Attack rather than their Special Attack. Black Sludge gives Salazzle a form of residual recovery and allows it to switch into Stealth Rock four times. Corrosion allows Salazzle to Toxic Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon such as Toxapex and Heatran.
Usage Tips
========
Salazzle finds tons of use in the Steel matchup, as it can pressure Pokemon such as Scizor with Flamethrower, allowing it to set up a Substitute, and badly poison Pokemon such as Heatran. Salazzle should be preserved in this matchup, as it can apply lots of pressure by threatening to poison everything or wear opposing Pokemon down with Flamethrower. Since Salazzle is super frail, it cannot be directly switched into battle; rather, it needs to be brought in when an ally faints, on a predicted switch, or when an opposing wall is expected to use recovery and/or Protect. Salazzle should use Protect as frequently as possible to rack up Black Sludge recovery and to scout what move Choice-
Team Options
========
All of Salazzle's teammates appreciate its ability to wear down bulkier Pokemon such as Celesteela and Toxapex, with Toxic thanks to Corrosion, making the matchup against balanced and bulkier teams easier. Mega Venusaur provides Salazzle with a switch-in to Ground-type attacks such as Choice Scarf Excadrill's Earthquake and Gastrodon's Earth Power. It also can provide Leech Seed support, giving Salazzle more opportunities to set up a Substitute and keep its health up in the battle. Toxapex also acts as a blanket check to many attackers, being able to switch in against a variety of threats such as Greninja and Mega Lopunny for Salazzle. Alolan Muk provides a much-needed Psychic-type immunity for Salazzle. It can also use Knock Off to remove opposing items such as Mantine's Leftovers and Pursuit trap Psychic-type Pokemon that present a threat to Salazzle such as Choice Scarf Latios. In return Alolan Muk appreciates Salazzle's ability to take on Pokemon such as Celesteela and Toxapex, which would otherwise beat it. Crobat provides a Ground-type immunity for Salazzle and can Defog away hazards such as Stealth Rock, severely improving Salazzle's ability to come in multiple times a battle and click Toxic. Crobat also can Taunt walls such as Chansey and Porygon2, preventing them from using their recovery moves. Nidoking and Nihilego are the viable Stealth Rock setters available to Poison and compete for the last team slot. Nihilego is a fantastic revenge killer that appreciates Salazzle's ability to cripple walls such as Celesteela, giving it a cleaner time sweeping late-game, and Nidoking in return can break Pokemon such as Gliscor that wall Salazzle otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================
Poison
--------
**Status Absorbers and Magic Bounce Users**: Defensive Pokemon that do not mind being Toxic poisoned such as Gliscor can check Salazzle, as it relies on Toxic to wear down walls. Similarly, Salazzle can't poison Magic Bounce users such as Mega Sableye.
**Super Effective Coverage**: Salazzle has a plethora of common weaknesses such as to Ground-, Psychic-, Water-, and Rock-type attacks, leaving it vulnerable to tons of Pokemon in the metagame such as Landorus-T, Latios, Keldeo, and Mega Diancie.
**Revenge Killers**: Faster attackers such as Choice Scarf Greninja, Tornadus-T, and Dugtrio can easily outspeed and OHKO Salazzle with their STAB attacks. Since Salazzle is frail, common priority moves such as Dragonite's Extreme Speed and Azumarill's Aqua Jet are capable of severely crippling or OHKOing Salazzle. Dugtrio also can trap Salazzle, preventing it from switching out and guaranteeing the kill against Salazzle. Alakazam, on the same note, can always take on Salazzle, as, thanks to Magic Guard, it ignores poison and can revenge kill Salazzle with its STAB attacks.
**Fast Taunt Users**: Fast Taunt users such as Tapu Koko, Crobat, and Tornadus-T can render Salazzle useless, as it cannot status them with Toxic and does little damage back with Flamethrower.
**Paralysis**: Salazzle hates being paralyzed, as it relies on its Speed to status Pokemon such as Kyurem-B and Keldeo.
