SM OU Scarf Gengar + Mega Gyarados Offense (1600+ // #198 rank)

Good evening, fellas. Its been a while.

This is my first SUMO Post, featuring an amazing Pokebank OU Team I built.
Shoutouts to my friend Random who assisted me building.
Proof of Peak:

League Dependency is one of the accounts I ladder on. Proof that it was me with this team:

Lets start with the team, shall we?

This is not going to be in depth analysis of the teambuilding process.
The idea was to build Hyper Offense with Scarf Gengar and Spikes.

1. GENGAR

[/IMG]
Gengar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt

Gengar got a nerf in Gen 7, removing its Levitate ability.
The reason why Gengar is still very good as a scarfer is the following:
Scarf Gengar beats a majority of the OU top tier threats 1v1
-
Mega Metagross dies after Rocks and 1 Spike
- adding the fact that Bullet Punch does not OHKO even after an attack raise
- Scarf Tapu Lele gets outspeed and killed after a spike
- Tapu Koko gets outspeed and killed
- Ash Greninja dies to T-Bolt after a Spike, while water shuriken doesnt kill
- Tapu Fini dies to Sludge Wave
- Scarf Kartana gets outspeed and ohkod
- Pheromossa gets outspeed and ohkod after a Spike

Focus Blast can be changed for Psychic to hit Amoongus for more damage. Focus Blast does a lot more to Heatran tho.

2. KLEFKI

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Play Rough
- Magnet Rise
- Spikes

As we have seen, Gengar needs Spikes to get important KOs. There is no better Spike setter for HO that Klefki.
Play Rough is its best attacking move, stopping mons like Tapu Lele, Raikou etc from a Calm Mind Sweep.

3. MAGEARNA

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon

Magearna is one of the best pivots in the metagame!

The Assault Vest set takes on a huge amount of offensive threats in the game.
For example Tapu Lele, Ash Greninja, Tapu Bulu and Mega Scizor.
Hidden Power Fire is key on this set to be get rid of Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, which this team struggles with quite a lot.

4. Mega Gyarados

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 108 HP / 176 Atk / 224 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Waterfall
- Crunch

This pokemon sets up on a huge part of the SUMO OU metagame!

Substitute Gyarados has always been good for the following reasons:
- Special Bulk allows it to set up subs on many mons
- Physical attackers get intimidated pre mega evolution
- the typing change lets you chose if you want to setup subs as a flying type or a dark type.
- Unaware or Sturdy mons and Shedinja get destroyed by Mold Breaker
- it also doesnt take Rough Skin damage from chomp etc

108 HP are used to avoid Heatran breaking the sub with Earth Power and Bisharp breaking the sub with Iron Head.

Heres a small list of mons it sets up free subs on:
Toxapex, Battle Bond Greninja, Heatran, Golisopod, some Lando-T forms, Celesteela, Togekiss, Amoongus, Alomomola, Mega Sableye, Ferrothorn (...)

Ofc there are sets that Gyarados cant setup on like Amoongus with Foul Play or Togekiss with Dazzling Gleam.

5. GARCHOMP

Garchomp @ Focus Sash
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

Garchomp has been a stable on Hyper Offense even in ORAS Meta.
The Focus Sash set allows it to alwas get up rocks as well as surprise mons like a Latios, a Tapu Lele or a Mega Metagross.
Swords Dance helps weakening mons like Lando-T, Ferrothorn and Tapu Fini, which need to be weakend for Gengar or Gyarados.

5. TAPU BULU

Tapu Bulu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpDef
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Wood Hammer
- Superpower
- Stone Edge

I've never used 2 Assault Vest users on one team before.
On this team, it is the perfect fit.
Using Bulu only for its offensive capabilities with a Band or Scarf set gives away a lot of potential.
AV Bulu checks mons like Tapu Koko, Latios, Ash Greninja and opposing Mega Gyarados.

The Grassy terrain heal also helps other mons:
-
Gyarados has a easier job switching in on rocks and setting up Substitutes
- Magearna checking opposing Magearnas
- Gengar gaining health to survive Metagross Bullet Punch or Greninjas Shuriken after a couple of rock switchins.

REMEBER THIS IS AN OFFENSE TEAM
Offense requires preservin win conditions, sacking useless mons and setting up sweeps correctly.
This is not an easy team to play with. Use stall if you want it easy.
Especially Sand Teams or an Amoongus/Skarmory combination can fuck you up badly.

I hope you enjoy laddering with this team. if you face me, just gimme your points.
