Bean's Dilemma Threemix - 9 players

Greetings, Genius players.

You’ve had it pretty rough so far. Whether navigating a complicated network of prey and predators in a biological ecosystem or dealing with the existential horrors of jury duty, I’m sure that the next game - where all you do is put beans into a jar - will be a much more simple, much less stressful game. That’s it. Just putting beans in a jar.

Right?

Nah, just kidding. This is The Genius!

In this game, you will be split into 3 teams of three people each - Vermillion Team, Violet Team, and Viridian Team. The teams have been randomly drawn and will be posted in the next post. In Bean's Dilemma Threemix, you must use more beans for your team to win or, less beans for an individual win. Or cooperate for a joint win.

Each player will start with 15 beans. Each round, every player will submit an integer number of beans from 0 to 15. The number of beans from each team will be totaled and the team with the highest number of beans submitted for that round will earn a point. In addition, the median number of beans and the team that submitted that number of beans will be revealed. Once a bean is submitted, it is gone for the rest of the game. You can’t take them back or retrieve them.

The first team to 3 points will win the game.

However, only the player with the highest number of beans left on the winning team will get a Token of Life (alongside a second to give away). If there is a tie for highest number of beans on the winning team, all players in the tie will receive Tokens of Life (with none to be given away).

In addition, each player on the winning team and the person with the highest number of beans left on the second place team will earn as many garnets as beans that they have left over. The person with the lowest number of beans on the third place team (in order of beans left) will become the Elimination Candidate for the round. Each team will have a PM in which they can discuss strategies - we highly, HIGHLY suggest you have a joint Discord as well (don’t forget to add all three hosts). You may communicate with people from other teams.

There's another way to win the Bean's Dilemma Threemix. You might be asking - what if Team A wins two rounds, Team B wins two rounds, and Team C wins one? Glad you asked, because then Team C automatically wins, every member of Team C gets a Token of Life, and the team collectively chooses an Elimination Candidate from a losing team, who will choose one of the other five losers. If this situation occurs, everyone on Team C each obtains five garnets.

Quick rule update: a player asked what happens if there is a tie. This should cover all situations:

  1. If there is a two-way tie for second place, both losing teams will be posted as if it were the "median" team and the winning team gains a point.
  2. If there is a two-way tie for first place, the losing team is posted as if it were the "median" team and the winning teams are informed they are in a two-way tie and to submit beans to break the tie. If the tie remains after a tiebreaker, then the winning point goes to any or all teams.
  3. If there is a three-way tie, the teams are informed they are in three-way tie and to submit beans to break the tie. If the tie remains after a tiebreaker, then the winning point goes to any or all teams.
  4. If two teams reach 3 points at once, both teams are joint winners and the EC and DMO are chosen from the third team.
  5. If, by a strange and sudden miracle, all three teams hit 3 points at once, the team with the most beans left wins.

After the hosts discussed:

Clarification: If you are submitting 0 beans, please make sure you still send that you are submitting nothing.
