The Death Match between Faisal and SPACE FORCE meeps will be Black and White II.

In this game, you will compete by using a portion of a limited pool of points. The player with the most victories will win the Death Match. Both players will start with 99 points. The game will consist of 9 rounds. In each round, players will use as many points as they wish out of their 99 points.

When a starting player decides how many points they'll used, It is revealed to the opponent whether it is a 1-digit (announced as Black) or a 2-digit number (announced as White). The opposing player can see that before they decide how many points to use for the round.. The number itself is not revealed.

The player who used more points in each round will gain a victory. The points you used will be subtracted from the total, and it will be shown which interval your total point amount lies in. The intervals are: 99-80, 79-60, 59-40, 39-20, 19-0. It will be shown which interval your remainder of points is in as soon as you send in your points.

The player who wins each round will be the person who starts the following round.

The winner of this Death Match gains the opponent's garnets. The loser will be the fourth person eliminated from the SGI.

Faisal and SPACE FORCE meeps, please schedule a time for this DM.

It has come to the hosts' attention that people are practicing DMs.

This is fine, but keep the hosts aware of all practices (either via logs or GDocs) and do not practice with people outside of the game. This solution was presented to us by an online Genius expert.

The Jury Game
Showdown Genius Invitational
10 players

This game is somewhat complicated, so it's important you read all the rules.

gavel.jpg

The Jury Game will be played in Citizen and Criminal teams. In 5 trials, the Citizen team will try to get a Guilty verdict while the Criminal team will try to get the Not Guilty verdict. After using Random.org, 6 players will be placed in the Citizen team and 4 players will be placed in the Criminals team. You will be informed of your role through your Confessionals page. Your team will not be revealed by the hosts.

Each team has a leader.

Things to note about team make-up:
  • The Criminal team will know each other. They will not, however. know the leader.
  • The Citizen team will not know each other.
  • The Citizen Leader will know the identities of the Criminal team except for the Criminal Leader.
  • The Criminal team will know who the other Criminals are. The only exception is that the Criminal Leader is a secret from the other criminals.
The Citizen team must avoid the Criminal team's interference and draw out 3 Guilty verdicts over 5 trials. Opposingly, the Criminal team must draw out 3 Not Guilty verdicts.

The game will have 5 rounds. Each round will consists of a jury selection and a trial. All 10 players will take turns as a foreperson. (It is somewhat unlikely we will go through the whole ten - don't expect it to happen - but if it does we will repeat the cycle. The odds of this happening are very low.) This foreperson order will be dictated by random.org.

At the start of each round, the foreperson will select a jury for the current round, either on the thread or by PMing a host who will post on the foreperson's behalf. The number of jurors will change depending on the round. The trials in Rounds 1 and 2 will have 4 jurors. The trials in Rounds 3 and 4 will have 5 jurors. The trial in Round 5 will have 6 jurors. When the foreperson selects a jury, there will be a vote of approval for that jury. Everyone will post on the game thread (or PM a game host on PS) whether they Approve or Disapprove. (If you PM a host on PS, they will post on your behalf.)

If a majority (6+) approves, the jury will take part in the trial. Anybody who doesn't vote by the time period will be considered agreeing to the jury selection. If not (<6), the jury will be dispersed and the next foreperson will get their turn.

The appointed jury will then cast their vote in their confessional page of "Guilty" or "Not Guilty." (They may also PM a host on PS). How a member voted will not be revealed. The outcome of the trial will be revealed once everyone has voted. If somebody didn't vote by the time period, they will automatically vote according to their role.

A unanimous vote is required for a "Guilty" verdict. If even one person chooses "Not Guilty," the trial decision will be "Not Guilty." In Round 4 only, however, the trial will only reach a "Not Guilty" verdict if at least two people choose Not Guilty. When a team wins 3 trials, there will be no more trials held....but it doesn't mean an automatic victory.

The team that loses the trials will get one last chance to turn the tables. If the Citizen team loses the trial, the Citizen Leader must guess the
Criminal leader. If they guess the Criminal Leader correctly, the citizen team wins the game. Conversely, if the criminal team loses the trial, the Criminal Leader must guesses the Citizen Leader. If they guess the Citizen Leader correctly, the criminal team wins the game. However - if they fail to guess the leader correctly, the team that won the trials will win the game.

The winning team will each get a Token of Life and one garnet each. They also must choose an elimination candidate to be sent to the Death Match from the losing team. The Elimination Candidate will then choose one of their teammates to face off in the Death Match.

We are discussing when to begin the game, as the holiday season is underway.

As a full disclosure, we intend to complete the SGI around February - about the life cycle of a major Smogon tournament such as the SPL.

Based on general input from players and the holiday season - as well as Gimm1ck's sudden and unfortunate illness - we will be starting the Jury Game at January 1, 8 PM, EST. Sorry to the players who voted no to the poll. Shortly before 8 PM EST on January the 1st, all role PMs will be sent.

Further notes on the game (this will be edited into the rules post previously):
  • In order to speed the game up, you may PM either VigilanteVigoroth, SteelEdges, or Gimm1ck on Pokemon Showdown a vote to approve/disapprove a jury (if non-foreperson), a jury nomination (if foreperson), or a Guilty/Not Guilty vote (if jurist). Your action will be recorded and posted or not posted according to the rules. If the host does not respond that your PM was read and acknowledged, assume it was not and that you should try again later (realistically, it probably will be, but we want you to have the confirmation).
  • However, if you are the Citizen Leader or Criminal Leader and you are in the position of having to guess the opposing leader to win, this guess cannot be done on PM on Pokemon Showdown.
All players are being tagged: 11oyd Dot Agumon MrJelli -Howkings Yoshi Faisal Ransei duck Clefable Ivy

We are determined to finish in February. Thank you.

All role PMs have been sent.

The game begins at 8 PM, EST, January 1. When that takes place, the first foreperson will have 24 hours to select a jury depending on the number of people the jury requires each round (4 jurors in Round 1 and Round 2; 5 jurors in Round 3 and Round 4; 6 jurors in Round 5). If the foreperson does not nominate a jury in 24 hours, they will be skipped. Let's try and avoid skips!

Foreperson order is as follows:

After a jury is nominated, all other players - including that on the proposed jury - will vote on Approve or Disapprove. Remember, to speed the process up, you may PM hosts your jury nomination (if foreperson) or your Approval or Disapproval (if voting to approve/disapprove a jury) on Showdown. If the host responds with acknowledgement, it will be entered as valid.

-Howkings, after the game officially begins at 8 PM EST January 1, you have 24 hours to submit a jury nomination either in PMs on Showdown or in this thread.

Please check this thread often, Genius players.

With 10 players and $60 on the line, we will each on average win at least $6. But why not squeeze more cash out of Quadrophenic?

I propose that all remaining players unite and try not to win the rounds, but to instead earn as many garnets as possible, and then split the prize money 10 ways at the end of the game.

Wishing you all a happy new year full of fortune!
