Overview
########

+Unique movepool with niche options like spore, a must use move on Shroomish.
+Unique abilities.
+Ground resist and not being weak to psychic are advantages Shroomish has over Foongus.
-Easily walled by other grass types.
-Average defensive stats and awful offensive stats.
-Completely outclassed by foongus if running a double spore set.

Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Spore
move 2: Protect / Hidden Power Fire
move 3: Leech Seed
move 4: Giga Drain
ability: Poison Heal
item: Toxic Orb
EVs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========
  • Spore is a staple on Shroomish for sleeping opposing mons.
  • Protect is nice if you want to get an extra turn of recovery, however without HP Fire, you're completely walled by other Grass types, handy for incoming Pawn and Ferroseed as well.
  • Leech Seed provides residual damage and more recovery for Shroomish.
  • Giga Drain is the stab move of choice, for Chinchou and Drilbur, and provides recovery.
Set Details
========
  • Lack of Eviolite is made up for by the amount of recovery options on the set.
  • Toxic Orb activates Poison Heal ability.
  • Bold nature boosts defence and lowers an unused attack on this set.
Usage Tips
========
  • Be careful not to spore an incoming grass type pokemon, HP fire can allow you to predict incoming Ferroseeds.

Team Options
========
  • Magnemite is a great teammate for Shroomish, it is immune to poison attacks aimed at Shroomish as well as resisting ice. It also walls Fletchling that is a huge threat to Shroomish.
  • Pokemon that can absorb Fire and Ice attacks aimed at Shroomish such as Slowpoke and Houndour, also Larvesta is a good pivoting teammate.

Tank
########
name: Tankmish
move 1: Spore
move 2: Synthesis
move 3: Seed Bomb / Bullet Seed
move 4: Drain Punch
ability: Effect Spore
item: Eviolite
EVs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
  • Spore is a staple on Shroomish for sleeping opposing mons.
  • Seed Bomb and Bullet Seed are STAB options.
  • Drain Punch provides coverage for dark types like Pawniard and recovery.
  • Synthesis removes the need for Berry Juice or Poison Heal, and provides reliable recovery.
Set Details
========
  • Eviolite is the only item worth using on Shroomish, it needs the bulk.
  • EV spread provides maximum bulk for Shroomish while still allowing it to hit hard and fulfill its role as a tank.
  • Jolly nature would be useless since Shroomish is not fast enough to utilize it, Adamant is the nature of choice.
Usage Tips
========
  • Be careful not to spore an incoming grass type pokemon.
  • Drain Punch can be used cleverly to hit Pawniard and Houndour on the switch.
  • You can predict switches into other grass types with Drain Punch or simply a double switch.
  • Be wary of Will-O-Wisp as this will render Shroomish useless.

Team Options
========
  • Magnemite is a great teammate for Shroomish, it is immune to poison attacks aimed at Shroomish as well as resisting ice. It also walls Fletchling that is a huge threat to Shroomish.
  • Something to absorb Will-O-Wisp and defeat grass types for Shroomish, particularly Phantump, Growlithe or Vulpix would fit nicely.
  • Abra or Slowpoke are handy for poison types that wall Shroomish.
  • Slowpoke also takes ice hits nicely.
Other Options
########
  • Double spore is an option for Shroomish, Spore and Stun Spore can catch opponents off as they switch out their sleeping mon in an attempt to bring in a counter.
  • Synthesis can be used if you feel Shroomish lacks in recovery.
  • Berry Juice can provide recovery as well, but sacrifices the added bulk from Eviolite.
  • Substitute is an option for the Leech Seed set, but works mainly if paired with Focus Punch.

Checks & Counters
########

**Poison Types**: Such as Croagunk and Trubbish. Poison types resist Shroomish's stab and coverage with Drain Punch and can often OHKO Shroomish with a stab of their own.
**Grass Types**: Particularly Phantump because of Will-O-Wisp and resisting Shroomish's stab as well as absorbing Spore. Foongus can absorb Spore, resist stab and OHKO with Sludge Bomb.
156 SpA Foongus Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 252+ SpD Shroomish: 18-24 (81.8 - 109%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
(18, 18, 18, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 24)

**Sleep Absorbers**: Vullaby can easily wall Shroomish and counter if it carries Brave Bird. It resists Shroomish's stab which makes it impossible for Shroomish to touch Vullaby. Early bird pokemon like Houndour can also threaten shroomish.

Yes, no Poison Heal set, I talked about it with Kavatika and we decided that Eviolite was better for the bulk and that a tanky Shroomish set would work better. Not to mention it's massively outclassed by Foongus which wouldn't have to run the likes of Protect in order to regenerate HP.

That may be the case, but people are sure to get on your case if you don't include the possibility in other options and explain why you didn't put it as a main set.

I don't know much about this stuff, but if Spore is so necessary to the set, I feel like Early Bird users, like Houndour, would be a good fit for Checks and Counters. And Shroomish might not be able to Drain Punch through Houndour while he is asleep for that one turn. Again, if you're seeing something I don't, you can just ignore me.

36 SpA Life Orb Houndour Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 116 SpD Eviolite Shroomish: 23-31 (104.5 - 140.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
196+ Atk Shroomish Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Houndour: 18-22 (85.7 - 104.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

Vullaby is another good counter. It's immune to Spore and Effect Spore and takes diddly from any of Shroom's attacks, while 2HKOing with Brave Bird

Poison Heal

Usage tips
  • Be cautious switching in on Water-types initially, since a Scald burn pretty much ruins this set.
  • If there's an opportunity to send Shroomish out, do so ASAP and Protect to activate Toxic Orb. Shroomish can then can act as a Water-type switch-in as well as a switch-in to status moves for the rest of the match.
  • When an opponent sees Shroomish, they immediately think Spore. If there are obvious switch-ins, like Ferro as you mentioned, smack them with an HP Fire instead to avoid a wasted turn. Encourage the possibility of double-switching as well, this can keep momentum flowing in your favor.
Teammates
  • Fire-types make excellent team mates, since Shroomish is forced into a stalemate vs. other Grass-type (and importantly, loses to Foongus). Ponyta, Houndour, Larvesta, etc.. all heavily threaten opposing Grass-types.
  • Water-types also serve as great team mates, since they can take on the Fire-types that force Shroomish out. Chinchou in particular can handle both Flying-types (Fletchling) and Fire-types (not sunnybeaming Ponyta tho ;_; Corkscrew )
  • Functions nicely in a FWG core, for the reasons above.

Tank
  • Bold nature over Adamant, it gives Shroom two extra defense points (factoring in Eviolite) in exchange for an attack point. The calcs don't change too much:
Adamant Shroom
0+ Atk Shroomish Bullet Seed (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tirtouga: 24-32 (114.2 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 16)
0+ Atk Shroomish Seed Bomb vs. 196 HP / 156+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 8-12 (28.5 - 42.8%) -- 17.6% chance to 3HKO
0+ Atk Shroomish Seed Bomb vs. 76 HP / 212+ Def Eviolite Chinchou: 12-14 (48 - 56%) -- 12.1% chance to 2HKO
0+ Atk Shroomish Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Eviolite Pawniard: 16-20 (76.1 - 95.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0+ Atk Shroomish Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 52 Def Bunnelby: 12-16 (60 - 80%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Bold Shroom
0 Atk Shroomish Bullet Seed (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tirtouga: 24-32 (114.2 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 16) (same damage per hit)
0 Atk Shroomish Seed Bomb vs. 196 HP / 156+ Def Eviolite Slowpoke: 8-12 (28.5 - 42.8%) -- 17.6% chance to 3HKO
0 Atk Shroomish Seed Bomb vs. 76 HP / 212+ Def Eviolite Chinchou: 12-14 (48 - 56%) -- 12.1% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Shroomish Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Eviolite Pawniard: 12-16 (57.1 - 76.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Shroomish Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 52 Def Bunnelby: 10-14 (50 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

I'd also say Bullet Seed > Seed Bomb in general just because of SturdyJuice mons like Tirtouga and Onix, but Seed Bomb does provide that consistent damage vs. the bulky water mons, so the slash order could go either way.

Team Options
  • Phantump doesn't beat Grass-types, it's more of a stalemate. Just put Fire-types in there, since they roast opposing Grass-types.
  • Mantyke's typing and special bulk compliment Shroomish's Grass-typing and physical bulk quite nicely; Shroomish can shrug off the Electric attacks aimed at Mantyke while Mantyke can take on both Fire and Grass-types with its neat STAB combo.
  • Chinchou beats Fire and Flying-types

Other Options
  • Scarf+Spore, Shroomish can hit 21 speed with a scarf to put unsuspecting opposing pokemon out of commission, however it's still prone to Grass-type/Sleep-immune switch-ins, making this option high-risk, high/medium-reward. Not to mention Shroomish doesn't pack much power as a revenge killer otherwise.
  • Sludge Bomb is an option to hit Cottonee, who otherwise lols at Shroomish. It doesn't do much else though (only does like 30% to nose fairy, pfft)
