Singles Break that Core (Week 17: Hippowdon + Lucario + Dragonite) ~ VOTING (post #395)

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Destiny Bond

The standard set. It comes in on either Chansey or Slowbro, traps them, and kills them. While it can't do too much damage to Chansey, it can always Taunt away its Soft-Boiled. Chansey also can't use Toxic or Seismic Toss, severely limiting its options in the way of damaging Gengar.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Quiet Nature
252 HP/252 SAtk/ 4 Atk

Kings Shield
Shadow Ball
Shadow Sneak
Sacred Sword

Mixed Aegislash has always been known as the premier wallbreaker of BSS. and this is no exception

best thing is that there's no special spread to run, nothing to change, the only thing you need is to set off the weakness policy and you're set to go town on either members of this core.

Chansey can't touch you, can't toxic stall you, it's a sitting duck. and Sacred Sword has the nice added bonus of ignoring evasion to shut down any minimize shenanigans.

Slowbro, normal or mega, is in no condition to eat a shadow ball, let alone a boosted one.

With only a minority of Slowbro carrying Fire Blast threaten Aegislash (honestly that can just be used to set off the WP), and Chansey just flatout unable to touch it, both fall with little effort under Spookysword's might.

Calcs-offensive
+2 4 Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 248-294 (76 - 90.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Slowbro: 152-182 (75.2 - 90%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (+2 just ends it)

Calcs-defensive
4 SpA Slowbro Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 60-72 (35.9 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (thanks for the boost Bro)

Heracross-Mega @ Heracronite
Ability: Guts
Level: 50
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 60 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pin Missile
- Close Combat
- Rock Blast
- Bullet Seed

Hits both super effectively and very hard. And its attack is so absurd its really hard to switch out chansey or bro into something else. Also its a pretty safe switch in pre mega as well thanks to guts, it can abuse a potential psn/brn/para.

252+ Atk Mega Heracross Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 378-446 (105.8 - 124.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Mega Heracross Pin Missile (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 160-190 (79.2 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 196 HP Mega Heracross: 50-50 (27.7 - 27.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

4 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 196 HP / 0 SpD Mega Heracross: 55-66 (30.5 - 36.6%) -- 55% chance to 3HKO

Was going to use Jellicent until I remembered they can just switch to heal off damage...

Scizor @ Scizorite / Lum Berry / Life Orb
Ability: Technician
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Scizor can do a lot of work to this core Mega or not, but Lum Berry is the safest bet here. Sets up on anything Chansey can do and 2HKOs with Bug Bite at +2. You can try to set up on Slowbro too if it doesn't get burns with Scald, but otherwise the Lum Berry lets it get 1 SD up and OHKO with Bug Bite. Mega Slowbro can still potentially burn it twice since it survives +2 Bug Bite, but Life Orb turns that into an OHKO if it doesn't get the burn. Also needs to be careful of Fire Blast but that only gets use on 15% of Slowbro, and those are often not Mega so if Scizor sets up on Chansey it'll win anyway.

+2 252+ Atk Technician Scizor Bug Bite vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 228-270 (113.4 - 134.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Technician Scizor Bug Bite vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 162-192 (80.5 - 95.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Bug Bite vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 211-250 (104.9 - 124.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bug Bite vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 176-210 (87.5 - 104.4%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

+2 252+ Atk Technician Scizor Bug Bite vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 219-258 (61.3 - 72.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bug Bite vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 243-286 (68 - 80.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

If it does get burned by Slowbro before beating Chansey:

+6 252+ Atk Technician burned Scizor Bug Bite vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 217-256 (60.7 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And it can just set up and Roost off damage to reach this safely.

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Payback / Assurance

Was hoping NOVED would go with Thundurus three weeks in a row.

Nominating Umbreon!
Would love to come in on the T-Waves, Toxic and Scald burns thanks to Synchronize and immune to Psychic STAB.
Chansey is a pure setup fodder, while Slowbro requires more work depending on which set its running.
Payback and Assurance is a matter of preference.

Unfortunately this set doesn’t do too much offensively (a 100 BP Payback has around 90% to 2HKO both mons at +4).

Defensive Calcs
Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 252 HP Umbreon: 50-50 (24.7 - 24.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 34-42 (16.8 - 20.7%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

It is truly unfortunate NOVED did not go for Thundurus for a third week in a row, especially because Thundurus is commonly seen breaking this core apart with this set as of late

Thundurus @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Nasty Plot

Rotom-Wash @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Trick
- Volt Switch/Hidden Power Ice

Specs Rotom pretty methodically destroys this core. It comes in on Mega Slowbro and forces Chansey in, allowing you to Trick away Chansey's Eviolite and cripple it with a simple prediction. After that, it can fairly simply wear down Slowbro with STAB-boosted super-effective Electric attacks, which still break it easily even without the Choice Specs:

252+ SpA Rotom-W Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Slowbro: 176-210 (87.1 - 103.9%)

While this can't break Chansey on its own, it takes away its biggest defensive advantage and leaves it open to removal by Rotom's teammates. If I need to add an example of such a teammate do let me know :)

Inspired by DragonWhale and Noved, I present a different kind of trapper!

Valentine (Mandibuzz) (F) @ Rocky Helm(to trap ferro too)
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Mean Look
- Roost
- Taunt/Foul Play

Are you stuck deciding whether to bring a strong physical or special attacker? Hmm, trappers are nice, but you don't always get off encoring Chansey well since seismic toss is too weak to use counter on. Simple set and here's how the magic happens: 1)Mean look once to ensure your opponent can't switch out. 2)Proceed with a deadly Toxic to make passing turns a huge threat to both these Pokemon as it eats them away each turn, stacking up in decay. 3) Roost stall your way to victory! Taunt is added to prevent them from using healing or status moves, it also makes it work much better to trap Ferrothorn, another pesky threat.
Pretty clean strategy and credits to DragonWhale for making this CASH SET

Needless to say, I approve

Glalie @ Leftovers
Ability: Moody
EVs: 172 HP / 84 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Protect
- Substitute
- Sheer Cold
- Frost Breath / Disable

Standard Moody Glalie here. Gets to play the SubProtect game easily against these two while racking up Moody boosts and spam Sheer Cold to KO them.. Frost Breath is the standard fourth move on the set, however Disable can be used to stop Chansey's Seismic Toss (and whatever Slowbro's move of choice is) so it doesn't just keep breaking your Subs. Whatever you do, DO NOT SWITCH IN ON TOXIC lol. Other than that you should be sweet.

Just a set I've been using over fall break that did in fact, manage to own quite a few teams using this core! Also got me to the top 10 on the singles ladder for the US last time I checked, which was neat (but thats like top 3000 worldwide rofl)

Suicune @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Relaxed Nature
-Sheer Cold
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Ice Beam / Scald

YEAH IM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE! Sheer Cold Suicune is a huge problem for a lot of stall teams, to the point where I've seen some of them resort to Magnezone (who isn't that bad by the way, Specs hits fairly hard). Basically... Suicune just sits on its ass and spams Sheer Cold. Could be a problem if I ever run into Calm Mind Slowbro, but I've seen no such thing. Sheer Cold also ignores accuracy modifiers, so Chansey can't Minimize herself outta this one!

Also yes, I actually used Suicune without a STAB move. Its blasphemous, but I didn't want to rely on Sheer Cold for Garchomp and Salamence. It does make Mega Kangaskhan a more uncomfortable situation though. Honestly any Sheer Cold Suicune probably gives this core problems, but I prefer this one the most because you don't have to worry about Toxic damage.

lol Theorymon you why using 504 EVs?

I was gonna post a Sheer Cold Suicune myself but decided to go with the poor man's option instead :pirate:
I actually use 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe in the game, I just put that spread because Jibaku mentioned that 244 HP / 4 Def / 4 SpD spreads are better for a lot of Pokemon than 252 HP / 4 Def or SpD spreads. But I forgot that's when you only try to max HP. So really: I had a brain fart lol.

(We really need to sort out our bulky EVs later onsite)

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Destiny Bond

Can't you just use Perish Song for Chansey?

The tree's in the place !

Trevenant @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Horn Leech
- Earthquake / Rock Slide
- Power-Up Punch

Why Trevenant ? It can 2HKO Slowbro (and Mega Slowbro if PwP-boosted), and gets a free setup against Chansey. And you would not like to get hit by a +1 Trevenant. This thing really hits like a truck.
Spamming soft-boiled, waiting Trevenant to die because of his LO ? Impossible, as long as he runs a powerful horn leech to get his life back.
Scaldburns ? Toxics ? Don't know them. With natural cure, you just have to switch out, to come back aaaaand you get rid of those statuts.

The Calcs :
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Trevenant Horn Leech vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 308-364 (43.7 - 51.7%) -- 10.9% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Trevenant Horn Leech vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 213-252 (54 - 63.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Trevenant Horn Leech vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 218-260 (55.3 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Moreover, he can deal heavy damage to powerful sweepers, with his Trick room up.
A very fun but very effective set, especially in 3v3. Hope you liked it !

Ebirah (Crawdaunt) (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant / Jolly
- Knock Off
- Crabhammer
- Switcheroo
- Aqua Jet

One of my favorite wallbreakers. The obvious issue with Chansey is that it fears to have its eviolite knocked off. A choice banded knock off or Crabhammer Guarentees a 2HKO on this mon before and after item removal. Not to mention that swapping CB on either poke will cripple their stalling capabilities. The most Chansey is capable of doing is t-wave to cripple, toxic/protect stall for a turn, or ST for 1/3 damage.

Slowbro is not to be feared bar those pesky scald burns. Otherwise--as stated previously--Crawdaunt can swap CB on non-mega variants and also land a 2HKO on Mega Bro.

Chansey Calcs

252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 436-514 (67.9 - 80%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 396-468 (61.6 - 72.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Slowbro Calcs

252 Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 408-484 (103.5 - 122.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Adaptability burned Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 204-242 (51.7 - 61.4%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability burned Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 226-266 (57.3 - 67.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Crawdaunt: 104-123 (38.8 - 45.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

MegaBro Def Calcs

252 Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 192-228 (48.7 - 57.8%) -- 94.9% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 208-248 (52.7 - 62.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability burned Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 104-124 (26.3 - 31.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
4 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Crawdaunt: 87-103 (32.4 - 38.4%) -- 98.5% chance to 3HKO

MegBro Tank Calcs

252 Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 36+ Def Mega Slowbro: 216-256 (54.8 - 64.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 36+ Def Mega Slowbro: 236-280 (59.8 - 71%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability burned Crawdaunt Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 36+ Def Mega Slowbro: 118-140 (29.9 - 35.5%) -- 27.3% chance to 3HKO
136 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Crawdaunt: 97-114 (36.1 - 42.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
136 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Crawdaunt: 97-114 (36.1 - 42.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after burn damage

The only thing to look out for is the rare Focus Blast that can be carried on Slowbro. On any variant it is a <100% OKHO so be cautious.

Otherwise this mon is a solid wallbreaker and can do massive damage to this core.

Voting time! You should know the drill by now. Make sure you put your votes in bold.

6tennis : Taunt Mega Gengar
teamjohto : Weakness Policy Mixed Aegislash
NOVED : Mega Heracross
Psynergy : Bulky SD Scizor
bobochan : Curse Resttalk Umbreon
GroudonEmpire : Bulky Nasty Plot Thundurus
ethan06 : Choice Specs Rotom-W
PikachuCandyツ : Mean Look Mandibuzz
cant say : Moody Glalie
Theorymon : Resttalk Sheer Cold Suicune
THS : Power-Up-Punch Offensive Trevenant
Sp00ki_ChandeIure : Choice Band Switcheroo Crawdaunt

My vote this week goes to 6tennis (sorry PikachuCandy). Mega Gengar's trapping ability completely nullifies this core's goal to switch to sponge hits, and Destiny Bond works great to take down the third pokemon, usually Tyranitar.

My vote this week goes to ethan06 and his washing machine.
Special attackers are more suited against this core since Iron Defense bro is at a glaring 37% (more than Scald burn chance lol).
Can come in on either Pokemon without too much trouble, is immune to the extremely common T-Waves (49% and 59%).
Doesn’t lose momentum thanks to Volt Switch (Chansey risks loses her item or Slowbro takes a huge chunk from STAB).
Specs Thunderbolt is a clean 2HKO on any CM bro sets, and Will-O-Wisp to do more passive damage to anything (if you run it).

gonna have to throw my vote in for NOVED.

Mega Heracross is one of those threats that if you can't handle it the first turn it hits the field, it has a solid chance of just running away with the battle cause it just spits out stupid damage with skill link.

Man I've lost plenty of matches just because I wasn't ready for Pin Missile or Rock Blast on turn 1.

My vote goes to NOVED. m-Hera's ridiculous attack and great ability make it a very efficient wall breaker. And if the common 3rd poke is t-tar, then it solos the whole team.

Firstly apologies to Groudon Empire, I missed voting last week and your rain core would have had my vote, but for this week my vote goes to noved- the ability to ohko or 2hko (with iron defense) is incredible, and hera really tears apart slower teams (particularly 2 other extremely common stalls mons, porygon2 and cresselia)- as said previously, it doesn't mind status on the switch due to guts (although not ideal relying on a guts pin missile to take out bro)

Voting for cant say. Neither Chansey nor Slowbro can do much to it after it gets setup, and it can get free Substitutes on either member of this core. It can take on mostly any form of stall in general, as a matter of fact. It doesn't really mind any form of status, either.

Voting for 6tennis, as the Mega Gengar seems reliable (shadow ball almost always KO 252/4 MegaBro). The Mega Gengar set is viable for use in general as well, not only against this core.
