MEDKIT CUZ SHES HEALABLE
name: Pivot
move 1: Scald / Ice Beam
move 2: Future Sight
move 3: Teleport
move 4: Slack Off
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Regenerator
nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Slowbro functions as a great defensive pivot due to its access to Teleport and Regenerator, which together allow Slowbro to safely pivot its teammates in multiple times throughout a match. The combination of Future Sight and Teleport reliably sets up teammates like Ash-Greninja and Mega Lopunny to break through troublesome defensive walls such as Toxapex, Tangrowth, and Clefable. Its good physical bulk allows it to check many key physical attackers such as Mega Medicham, Landorus-T, and Mega Lopunny. Scald lets Slowbro threaten the likes of Corviknight and Excadrill with a burn. Ice Beam is another option that lets Slowbro threaten Ground-types such as Gliscor, Garchomp, and Landorus-T better, but causes it to struggle to check other physical attackers. Heavy-Duty Boots lets Slowbro ignore damage from entry hazards, which is key in keeping it healthy throughout longer games. It can also run Rocky Helmet to punish physical attackers like Mega Medicham, Urshifu-R, and Mega Lopunny, but this makes its longevity much worse. A Relaxed nature with 0 Speed EVs ensures the slowest possible Teleport, guaranteeing a speed tie in Teleport mirrors against opposing Slowbro and Slowking.
Slowbro tends to fit on bulky offense builds, where it can be paired with other Pokemon with pivoting moves, such as Mega Lopunny, Landorus-T, and Corviknight. Fast and frail wallbreakers such as Tapu Koko, Ash-Greninja, Weavile, and Kartana appreciate Slowbro pivoting them onto the field safely and providing Future Sight support, which lets them more easily KO their checks like Landorus-T, Toxapex, Corviknight, and Tangrowth. Due to Slowbro's weakness to Electric-types such as Magnezone and Tapu Koko, pairing it up with Ground- and Grass-types that can switch into these Pokemon such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth makes for a solid defensive backbone. Ferrothorn, Amoonguss, and Assault Vest Tangrowth deserve a special mention, as they are able to check Ash-Greninja, which Slowbro tends to let in for free. Pokemon that resist Dark such as Clefable and Kommo-o make for good teammates, as they're able to switch into Dark-type moves from the likes of Tyranitar, Greninja, and Hydreigon, which threaten Slowbro. Lastly, Blissey forms a stellar defensive core alongside Slowbro, as its ability to switch into special attacks directed at Slowbro, alongside its access to Teleport, lets these two cover most offensive Pokemon while keeping up momentum.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Running Thunder Wave or Toxic over Scald lets Slowbro further annoy the opposing team by crippling common switch-ins such as Mega Latias, Slowking, and Hydreigon. However, running no attacking moves outside of Future Sight is incredibly passive, and can easily be taken advantage of by the likes of Gliscor and Reuniclus. A Colbur Berry is another option for a held item, as it lets Slowbro absorb a Dark-type move from the likes of Weavile, Mega Tyranitar, or Mega Mawile to potentially turn the tide of a battle, but it's generally more situational and less useful than its other options. It can also run Body Press in tandem with a Colbur Berry to hit Weavile, Bisharp, and Tyranitar harder, but this tends to be less useful than Scald or Future Sight.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Special Attackers**: Slowbro's Special Defense is quite average, which can be taken advantage of by common special attackers such as Clefable, Ash-Greninja, Mega Diancie, and Tapu Lele.
**Dark-types**: Hydreigon, Greninja, Weavile, and both Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar all threaten Slowbro with their super effective STAB moves and are able to switch into and absorb its Future Sight. Roost variants of Hydreigon can especially easily switch into and wall Slowbro, hindering its ability to make progress. However, neither Tyranitar nor Weavile like to switch into Scald for fear of a burn, and Greninja hates any and all forms of chip damage, including chip from a Scald burn.
**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Rillaboom, Kartana, and Serperior are able to force out Slowbro with their STAB Grass-type moves. However, the former two can't switch in safely due to Scald's burn chance.
**Electric-types**: Tapu Koko, Zeraora, and Magnezone are able to force Slowbro out and can take advantage of the forced switch by using Volt Switch to gain momentum. However, Zeraora cannot switch into Slowbro due to the threat of a Scald burn.
