QC: atomicllamas
GP:

Overview
########
  • Great special bulk and passable physical bulk
  • Has great ability in Regenerator and typing which allows Slowking to pivot into Steel-, Fighting- and Fire-Types such as Mega Steelix, Medicham and Mega Camerupt, easily.
  • Has decent base 100 Special attack stat
  • Huge movepool
  • Can run many sets viably which increases its unpredictibility
  • Weak to Knock Off, which are very common in pokemons such as Hitmonlee and Drapion
  • Low speed which leaves Slowking susceptible to Taunt and Toxic that could cripple it

Calm Mind
########
name: Calm Mind
move 1: Scald
move 2: Psyshock / Fire Blast / Toxic / Thunder Wave
move 3: Calm Mind
move 4: Slack Off
ability: Regenerator
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

  • Scald for STAB as well as to cripple any physical attackers that tries to come in due to its burn chance
  • Psyshock is for secondary STAB and also to hit Fighting-types and Poison-types such as Hitmonlee, Qwilfish and Ammoonguss and can help beat Calm Mind wars against opposing Calm Mind users such as Reuniclus and Virizion.
  • Fire Blast to hit grass-types such as Whimsicott, shiftry and Tangrowth who can otherwise beat this set
  • Toxic is used to cripple annoying walls such as Alomomola and Cresselia
  • Thunder Wave is used to punish fast attackers such as Meloetta and Emboar that try to switch in to Slowking
  • Calm Mind is used to increase Slowking's Special Attack and Special Defense which turns it into a potent sweeper.
  • Slack Off provides longevity that aids Slowking when setting up due to the slow boosting nature of this set.

Set Details
========

  • 248 HP evs makes it as bulky as possible
  • 252 Def is used to optimize Slowking's physical bulk that it desperately needs in order to take physical attacks and set up Calm Minds more efficiently
  • Leftovers provide longevity

Usage Tips
========

  • this set works well on balanced and stall teams that needs a defensive pivot early-game with Regenerator helping it do its job.
  • Only set up on Slowking once its checks and counters are either weakened or knocked out as they would hinder Slowking's sweep
  • Use it as a win condition against stall teams
Team Options
========
  • Clerics such as Aromatisse and Roselia can provide Aromatherapy support for Slowking if it suffers from any status conditions
  • Toxic Spikes support from Weezing, Garbodor and Qwilfish are also greatly appreciated as it can wear down walls for Slowking such as Alomomola and Tangrowth
  • Cobalion is also a great partner as it can deal with Bug- and Dark-types such as Scyther and Drapion that annoy Slowking and can provide Stealth Rock support

Nasty Plot
########
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Scald
move 3: Psyshock
move 4: Fire Blast / Grass Knot / Trick Room
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spd
nature: Modest

Moves
========

  • Nasty Plot to boost Slowking's special attack by 2 stages
  • Scald for STAB and chance to burn to cripple any physical attackers
  • Psyshock is for secondary STAB and also to hit Fighting-types and Poison-types such as Hitmonlee, Qwilfish and Ammoonguss
  • Fire Blast for roasting Whimsicott, Tangrowth and Escavalier
  • Grass Knot hits bulky water-types such as Quagsire, Alomomola and opposing Slowking, harder
  • Trick Room is to make Slowking outspeed most of the tier, and to wreck offensive teams

Set Details
========
  • Quiet nature if Trick Room is used
  • A set of 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe is an option to outspeed 0 Speed Rhyperior and 84 Speed Mega Camerupt but should not be used with Trick Room
  • Max Special Attack to hit as hard as possible
  • 248 HP evs to optimize Slowking's bulk as this set does not runs no defense evs
  • Leftovers for longevity and to bluff defensive sets
  • A bulkier spread with Slack Off is also a viable option that works like the Calm Mind set but trades the ability to boost its Special Defense for being an immediate threat when it starts boosting

Usage Tips
========
  • This set should not be used to pivot into strong physical and special attacks as it does not have any defense investment
  • This set is also a great way to surprise opponents as most of them would expect a defensive Slowking set
  • Can be used early-game to punch holes in opposing teams
  • Keep this thing healthy until mid- or late-game when its checks and counters are eliminated to start sweeping

Team Options
========
  • If Grass knot is used, Pokemon that can handle Escavalier and Whimsicott such as Mega Camerupt and Houndoom can benefit Slowking
  • If Fire Blast is used, Pokemon that can handle Alomomola such as Heliolisk and Virizion are helpful too
  • Mega Abomasnow makes a good partner as it handles Electric- and Grass-Types for Slowking and can wear down bulky pokemon while Slowking deals with the Fire- and Steel-Types that Abomasnow has trouble with
  • Dugtrio can also assist Slowking as it can get rid of Houndoom, Skuntank and Drapion for it and provide Memento support if neccesary

name: Special Tank
move 1: Scald
move 2: Psyshock / Future Sight

  • Dragon Tail used to phase set-up sweepers such as Cobalion and Reuniclus
  • Grass Knot is ano option that hits bulky water-types such as Quagsire, Alomomola and opposing Slowking, harder

========
  • This set works well on balanced and offensive teams that needs an offensive pivot for special attacks
  • Do not switch in this set against physical attackers as this set does not have any defense investments
  • Hazard support works well with this set if running Dragon Tail to rack up hazard damage on opposing teams

Team Options
========
  • Hazard support from Rhyperior and Garbodor works well with this set if running Dragon Tail to rack up hazard damage on opposing teams
  • Fairy-types such as Aromatisse and Togetic make good partners as they resist dark- and bug-types that Slowking loses to while Slowking deals with the Poison- and Steel-types that the both of them do not appreciate and the both of them can provide Aromatherapy and Heal Bell support, respectively.
  • Mega Steelix is also a good partner as it deals with physical attackers such as Drapion and Skuntank for Slowking while providing Stealth Rock support

Checks & Counters
########

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Specially defensive pokemon such as Aromatisse, Drapion and Meloetta all take minimal damage from Slowking's attacks and only fear Trick.

**Pursuit Trappers**: Pursuit trappers such as Drapion, Skuntank, Spiritomb and Escavalier all can heavily damage Slowking and leave it severely weakened

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Powerful physical wallbreakers such as Emboar and Tyrantrum all can heavily damage Slowking with their powerful moves though they cannot reliably switch in to Slowking.

This is ready, also i was wondering if special tank set should be used? Its not a really good set atm since moltres is gone

o_k, this is shaping up fairly well. just a few quick notes, since i gotta head out shortly

248 doesn't actually hit an sr number, honestly don't recall the point during which that mentality arose. mention tangrowth > virizion as a fire blast target, since lending specs / lo 'growth free turns is an irksome trait to such slowking sets nowadays. 88 spe on specs would be classified as speed creep, just go 84 and mention that there are common 'mons also circling that speed tier. i think that av still has some merits on builds for its ability to soft-check an assortment of things w/phazing capabilities. that said, i'd rather future sight be slashed w/psyshock and gk relegated to simply a mention, rather than a slash, as the future sight + dtail interactions are really cool for it (especially w/spikes). this, at least for me personally, is what keeps av 'on the map' atm.

defensive shouldn't be the first set, it comes very close to being a do nothing 'mon much like amoonguss is.

i'd put calm mind as the first set followed by nasty plot, av, and then defensive

a bulkier spread + slack off should be mentioned as an alternative to the current nasty plot set; it functions much like the calm mind set, but trades the ability to boost its spd stat in exchange for being an immediate threat turn 1.

trick room + 3 atks should be given an other options mentions

i have no opinion on specs honestly
done

Move specs to being the last set, QC is divided on whether or not it should be there.

We also are considering combining the defensive set w/ calm mind and just slashing the status move with psyshock.

Gonna QC approve 1/3 for now though cause the quality is there and I'd like to hear other QC members input on defensive set vs no defensive set

yeah, i'd have no significant issues w/dropping defensive, i s'pose. that said, fire blast and status (both tox and twave) are usable > psyshock on cm, since it isn't as if that breaks cm wars for it anywho. also, psychic should be the psychic stab for specs, since it's just an all-around better lock-in, not giving a free turn to things like tangrowth, durant, etc. while psyshock does.
