Specially defensive Heatran is a staple of SM OU, being able to check a handful of relevant threats such as Tapu Lele, Magearna, and Mega Alakazam. This set takes a unique spin on the standard variant with Roar, allowing Heatran to reliably check setup sweepers like Reuniclus, Clefable, and Mega Latias and, with help from entry hazards and status afflictions, wear down checks like Mega Tyranitar, Garchomp, and Tapu Fini over time, which teammates like Reuniclus, Toxapex and Weavile appreciate. Roar also lets Heatran force out Pokemon it has unfavorable matchups against, such as opposing Heatran, Chansey, and Toxapex. Protect lets it scout foes that commonly carry Choice items like Tapu Lele, Landorus-T, and Weavile, stall out turns for extra Leftovers recovery, and rack up residual status damage on foes. To take as much advantage of Roar as possible, Heatran is best paired up with entry hazard setters such as Greninja, Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Gliscor.

Specially Defensive Heatran is a staple of SM OU, being able to check a handful of relevant threats in the tier such as Tapu Lele, Magearna, and Mega Alakazam. (AP) This set takes a unique spin on the standard specially defensive sets, thanks to an intriguing move option in Roar. Roar is an interesting move for Heatran, as not only does it Roar allows Heatran to not only check set-up sweepers like Reuniclus, Clefable, and Mega Latias reliably, but with help from entry hazards and its ability to spread status through Lava Plume and Toxic, it's able to phaze out and wear down checks like Mega Tyranitar, Garchomp, and Tapu Fini overtime, making it incredibly annoying to deal with. Roar also lets it force out Pokemon it has unfavourable matchups against, such as opposing Heatran, Chansey, or Toxapex. Protect lets it scout foes that commonly carry choice items like Tapu Lele, Landorus-T, and Weavile, and also can let it stall out turns for extra Leftovers recovery and to rack up residual status damage on foes. cuz plume burns are a thing To take as much advantage of Roar as possible Heatran is best suited to be paired up with entry hazard setters such as Greninja, Ferrothorn, Toxapex, or Gliscor. With the extra characters you get out of cleaning stuff above, maybe mention a mon or two that likes chip on ttar/fini/chomp?
