1v1 Smeargle [3/3 QC] [2/2 GP]

5 am in Toronto
[OVERVIEW]

Smeargle has access to the combination of Transform, Imprison, and a sleep-inducing move, granting it a unique niche in being able to shut down almost any slower defensive Pokemon. However, its subpar defensive stats result in it losing to any Pokemon faster than it due to it getting OHKOed or hit with Taunt. A fairly low base Speed stat of 75 leaves Smeargle outsped by common threats like Mega Lopunny, Mega Charizard X and Y, Greninja, and Mimikyu. Smeargle relies heavily on sleep turns, as it can't beat any Pokemon that wakes up before it sets up Imprison and transforms.

[SET]
name: Spore + Transform
move 1: Spore
move 2: Imprison
move 3: Transform
move 4: King's Shield / Magic Coat / Lovely Kiss / Substitute
item: Mental Herb / Quick Claw / Sitrus Berry
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
With the use of Spore, Smeargle increases its chances of being able to use Imprison + Transform while taking minimal damage. Imprison prevents the foe from using moves it shares with Smeargle; when paired with Transform, this won't let the foe use any of its moves. The fourth moveslot is pretty flexible. King's Shield can help Smeargle take a physical hit it otherwise wouldn't before putting the opponent to sleep. Magic Coat can help Smeargle out by bouncing Taunt and other status moves back to the user. Usually, you would use Magic Coat if you are running Quick Claw. Lovely Kiss can help with Spore's problem of not being able to put Grass-types to sleep. Substitute can help Smeargle get enough sleep turns and allow it to take a hit from behind the Substitute to put the foe to sleep once more.

Set Details
========
Running 252 Speed EVs with a Speed-boosting nature makes Smeargle outspeed as many Pokemon as possible. Speed is Smeargle's only useful stat, as it relies on Speed to win. 252 HP EVs make Smeargle slightly better at taking hits, and the EVs aren't useful elsewhere. After Transform, Smeargle copies the opposing Pokemon's stats besides HP, which it retains. Mental Herb can help Smeargle put Taunt users to sleep. Quick Claw is also an option, as it can let Smeargle steal away games with its 20% chance of letting Smeargle use a sleep-inducing move before an otherwise faster foe can move. Sitrus Berry can restore HP lost from Struggle recoil and heal Smeargle using Substitute.

Usage Tips
========

Use Smeargle only if you suspect that your opponent will bring a slower tank or wall. When you send out Smeargle, you should always use Spore first unless you expect a physical hit from a faster foe, in which case you can use King's Shield. Magic Coat can bounce back a predicted Taunt when you are running Quick Claw instead of Mental Herb. After using Spore on the opposing Pokemon, use Imprison and then Transform to force it to use Struggle.

Team Options
===========
Pokemon like Pheromosa and Zeraora benefit from Smeargle's ability to scare off bulkier builds, while Smeargle appreciates their Speed stats against faster teams. The opponent will hesitate to use bulky Pokemon against a Smeargle team, so Pokemon that enjoy having these walls not picked like Mega Lopunny and Donphan make good team options. Smeargle can deal with slow, bulky, powerful Pokemon like Mega Mawile, which benefits hyper offensive teams unable to OHKO these Pokemon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Smeargle can't pull off any other viable set due to its low Speed and overall bad stats.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Smeargle's mediocre speed of 75 and terrible bulk, it's very unlikely to land Spore against the likes of Mega Lopunny and Mimikyu before getting OHKOed.

**Grass-types**: With most Smeargle sets relying on Spore, it has trouble with Grass-types, which are free to attack. They can be handled with Lovely Kiss, though.

**Z-Move Users**: Z-Moves can be used in spite of Imprison, so Pokemon like Dragonium Z Dragonite and Ghostium Z Aegislash can OHKO a Transformed Smeargle with super effective attacks.

Your analysis must be in bullet points until you get the second QC. After you get the second QC you change it to paragraphs. Edit it then tag me for a QC check.

edit; unless you made it on boards? If yes PM me the link and I'll QC.

•Smeargle's speed stat at 75 [reaching 273 with max investment] can let-makes Smeargle be outsped by common threats like Mega Lopunny, Mega Charizard Y and X, Greninja, and Mimikyu.

•This is the standard set for a Smeargle in 1v1. Imprison + Transform forces an opponent to use Struggle.

•With a combination of Spore, it increases Smeargle's chances of being able to Imprison + Transform while taking minimal damage.

•The fourth slot is pretty flexible,since you can run a few different things like King's Shield, Magic Coat, Lovely Kiss, Substitute. King's Shield can help Smeargle live a physical hit it might not be able to live before, letting you put the opponent to sleep.

•Magic Coat can help Smeargle out with opposing Taunt or status users by bouncing the taunts/status back. Usually you would run Magic Coat if you are running Quick Claw over Mental Herb.

•Lovely Kiss can help with Spore's problem of not sleeping being able to put Grass-types to sleep so, you can sleep grass types-put Grass-types to sleep with Lovely Kiss instead.

•Substitute can help Smeargle with sleep rolls and allowing-allow it to take a hit from behind the Substitute and Spore/Lovely Kiss the opponent once more.

Set Details
========
• Running 252 Speed EVs with a Speed boosting nature can let Smeargle outspeed as many mons -Pokemon,don't refer to Pokemon as mons as possible.

• With 252 HP evs, it improve Smeargle's bulk more, letting it take hits from weaker foes.
252 HP EVs help improve Smeargle's bulk more,allowing it to live a few hits

• The Ability Own Tempo was chosen due to Moody being banned from 1v1 and Technician being useless on this set.

• Mental Herb can help Smeargle out with Taunt users ; as Mental Herb lets Smeargle take one Taunt not be affected by one Taunt and choose to Spore or Lovely Kiss the opposing pokemon.

• Quick Claw is also an option for Smeargle as it can let Smeargle cheese games from Quick Claw's 20% chance of letting your pokemon move first and letting Smeargle put your pokemon to sleep.

Usage Tips
========

• Its recommend to not use Smeargle if your opponent doesn't have a slower pokemon or if your opponent has a faster, stronger pokemon like Mega Lopunny at hand.

•You generally want to send out Smeargle on slower, bulkier teams as that's where Smeargle shines.

• When you send out Smeargle, you should almost always click Spore turn 1 besides when you expect a physical hit from a faster opponent (which then u click King Shield if you have it) or when you expect a status move Spore is the best move to use against any status mov (you click Magic Coat if you have it).

• Magic Coat can also help you bounce back a predicted Taunt when you are running Quick Claw instead of Mental Herb.

• After you Spore the opposing pokemon, its recommended you Imprison first so, when you Transform, you block all your opponent's moves and force them to Struggle.

Team Options
===========
• Powerful attackers like Mega-Charizard-Y and Zeraora pair greatly-well with Smeargle, as seeing Smeargle in team preview, can make your opponent think twice before sending out their wall.

• Smeargle also likes to have partners capable of taking down fast threats because Smeargle struggles against them. Some options are Greninja or Mega Slowbro.

• Smeargle can scare away walls from being used in a battle due to its ability to Spore them and continue to Imprison + Transform against them, making them Struggle.

• You can use this to your advantage by sending out a pokemon that can punish the user-opponent for not going to his wall like Mega-Charizard-X and not be worried about an opposing Mega-Slowbro.

• Other team options include Tapu Lele, Mega-Charizard-Y, Zeraora, and Pheromosa due to them having synergy with Smeargle's ability to scare away bulky builds.

• Builds can also benefit from the fact that Smeargle beats Mega-Mawile 1v1-1v1 is not needed, which, can mean alot for offensive teams with Mega-Mawile troubles.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

• You can run Lovely Kiss in your 4th moveslot to help with Spore not being able to put Grass types to sleep.

• You do go from Spore's 100% accuracy to Lovely Kiss' 75% accuracy but, now have an option to put Grass types to sleep.

• As your item, you can run Quick Claw over Mental Herb so, you have a 20% chance of outspeeding a faster opponent and boosting Smeargle's mediocre speed stat.

• You can even try a F.E.A.R set with Endeavor, Spore, Endure, Extreme Speed with a Salac Berry so you can boost your speed after an Endure. You will most likely be brought down to 1% with endure due to Smeargle's horrible defenses.
F.E.A.R. generally refers to level 1 Pokemon.
Regardless,elaborate further on how this set works.

• With this set, you can lure powerful hits from threats like Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam and Mega-Charizard-Y's Blast Burn.You could phrase this better. But, this set is largely outclassed by its bread and butter SleepTrap Set.
1.Bullet-points indicate change of topic,move this paragraph to the above bullet-point.
2.SleepTrap is an Ubers term,completely unrelated to this set.

Checks and Counters
===================

•Faster Pokemon: Due to Smeargle's mediocre speed of 75 and terrible bulk, its very unlikely you will be able to get a Spore off against an opposing Mega-Lopunny or Mimikyu before they OHKO you back.

•Grass types: With most Smeargle sets only running Spore, you can see why it might have trouble with Grass types. Due to grass types being immune to Spore, it makes Smeargle vulnerable to opposing status like sleep or an attack. This can be supressed by the use of Lovely Kiss though.

•Taunt Users: If the Taunt user is faster, they can completely shut down Smeargle's set therefore, rendering it useless. although Magic Coat/Mental Herb can surprise and defeat most of them.

I'll take another look after you implement.

•This is the standard set for a Smeargle in 1v1. Imprison + Transform forces the opponent to use Struggle.

•With a combination of Spore, it increases Smeargle's chances of being able to Imprison + Transform while taking minimal damage. Reword this. "a combination of Spore" is incoherent as a combination implies multiple things being involved.

•The fourth slot is pretty flexible, since you can run a few different things like King's Shield, Magic Coat, Lovely Kiss, Substitute.

Make this less suggestive and more affirmative. "Never use Magic Coat and Mental Herb together" or something of that sort.

•Lovely Kiss can help with Spore's problem of not being able to put Grass types to sleep, you can put Grass types to sleep with Lovely Kiss instead.

•Substitute can help Smeargle with sleep rolls and allow it to take a hit from behind the Substitute and Spore/Lovely Kiss the opponent once more.

• Quick Claw is also an option for Smeargle as it can let Smeargle cheese games from Quick Claw's 20% chance of letting your Pokemon move first and letting Smeargle put your pokemon to sleep. The overuse of "your" is a little confusing here. Try rewording?

• As your item, you can run Quick Claw over Mental Herb so, you have a 20% chance of outspeeding a faster opponent and boosting Smeargle's mediocre speed stat. Everything in OO above this shouldn't be here. These are slashed into the main set so they're not necessary. Replace with the option of Sitrus Berry to help mitigate Struggle damage.

• You can even try a F.E.A.R set with Endeavor, Spore, Endure, Extreme Speed with a Salac Berry so you can boost your speed after an endure. Since Smeargle is Level 1, it will always be brought down to 1%, guaranteeing the Salac berry to activate. After the Endure and speed boost, you can get a fast Spore off on the opponent. Which then, you can Endeavor the opponent to 1%, to finish them off with an Extreme Speed next turn.
With the ability to live one hit guaranteed due to Endure, you can survive hits from the likes of Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam and Mega-Charizard-Y. But, this set is largely outclassed by its bread and butter SleepTrap Set.

•Faster Pokemon: Due to Smeargle's mediocre speed of 75 and terrible bulk, its very unlikely you will be able to get a Spore off against an opposing Mega Lopunny or Mimikyu before they OHKO you back.

•Taunt Users: If the Taunt user is faster, they can completely shut down Smeargle's set therefore, rendering it useless. Although, Magic Coat/Mental Herb can surprise and defeat most of them. Delete this. Having Taunt is irrelevant given that the opponent can simply OHKO/falls under faster mons category

Add something about Z move users and note that they can use their Z move despite Imprison being in effect.

Did some GP stuff in this too. Check!

•Z-Move Users: Even after Smeargle puts an opposing pokemon to sleep, then imprisons and transforms, The Z move user can still use its Z move. This can result in OHKO's from super effective hits like Dragonium-Z Dragonite or Ghostium-Z Aegislash.
None of those is super effective,and Smeargle is immune to Ghost attacks.

You get the QC,just implement those few things.

Overview
-I don't think mentioning Smeargle moves does anything for 1v1, only mention that its the only Pokemon in 1v1 that has access to a combination of Transform, Imprison, and sleeping move giving it a special niche.
+Mention its mediocre stats from defense to speed which doesn't allow it to beat any Pokemon that is faster due to the possibility of it getting OHKO'd or Taunted.
+Mention that it heavily relies on Sleep turns as it cannot beat any Pokemon that wakes up before Smeargle sets up imprison and transforms.

Set Comments;
Moves
-I'd change the order of moves, starting with spore on both the set and set comments. Spore should always be step 1 unless the opponent is a grass-type or cannot be put to sleep.
-Write what Imprison+Transform do, don't just say it causes Struggle. Say per example that Imprison doesn't allow the foe to use shared moves and when paired with Transform it won't let it use all of its own moves.

Set Details
-Lives a few hits but from who? Says that running 252 on any other than Speed is useless since Smeargle not even using them so might aswell put it in HP instead of saying live random hits.
-Just say allows it to put to sleep the foe and not "spore or lovely kiss"

Usage Tips
-Just say "Only use Smeargle if you suspect that your opponent will bring a slower Pokemon such as Bulky Offensive Pokemon or Stall Pokemon" instead of writing all of that.
-Point #3 after King's Shield is a bit messy fix it pls

Team Options
-There's some repetition here. You can easily merge #1 #3 #4 and #5 by saying that the opponent will think twice before sending in a bulky Pokemon as smeargle defeats it so Pokemon that enjoys having these walls not picked makes a good team option for Smeargle.
-Didn't understand last point at all, please re-write it.

Other Options
Slash Sitrus berry in the main set and write about it there, it is useless to have it as OO.

Checks and Counters
-I'd put something like super effective Z-move users since Primarina or Tapu Fini does not beat Smeargle after it transformed with Waterium-Z

I said fix the order not just copy/paste what I wrote and add it anywhere. The paragraph should be a logical succession. Read it by yourself, if you think it's illogical edit it.

I also never said to remove this whole section, please re-write it again with no repetition. NAME EXAMPLES, it's the only reason this is here. You need to NAME TEAMMATES.

re-tag me when you're done

So, Pokemon that enjoy having these walls not picked makes a good team option for Smeargle. << Such as??? Give examples.

Make sure you're writing paragraphs and not just removing the bullet points and smashing phrases together. Imo you should rewrite some of it to make it seem like paragraphs.

[OVERVIEW]
Smeargle has acess access(a spelling error) to the combination of Transform, Imprison, and a sleeping sleep-inducing(a sleeping move is technically incorrect since Rest is the only sleeping move ) move, which gives grants (usage of a contextually better word) Smeargle a special unique (special has an altogether different meaning in the context of Pokemon) niche. Smeargle has mediocre subpar defensive (mediocre is a strong word to throw around Smeargle's pitiful defences)stats, which results in it losing to any Pokemon faster than it due to the possibility of it getting OHKO'd OHKOed or Taunted.
Smeargle's base speed stat at 75 [reaching 75, which reaches 273 with max investment] leaves investment, leaves(RB and AC) Smeargle to get outsped by common threats like Mega Lopunny, Mega Charizard Y and X, Greninja, and Mimikyu.
Smeargle relies heavily on Sleep turns as it can't beat any Pokemon that wakes up before Smeargle sets up Imprison and transforms.

With the use of Spore, it increases a Smeargle increases its chances of being able to Imprison + Transform while taking minimal damage. This is the standard set for a Smeargle in 1v1.(Irrelevant information)Imprison doesn't allow the foe to use shared moves with Smeargle and when paired with Transform, it won't let the foe use any of its moves. The fourth slot is pretty flexible, since you can run a few different things like King's Shield, Magic Coat, Lovely Kiss, Substitute. King's Shield can help Smeargle live a physical hit it might not be able to live before letting you put putting the opponent to sleep. Magic Coat can help Smeargle out with (by Bouncing) opposing Taunts/status back to the user . Usually you would use Magic Coat if you are running Quick Claw. Never use Mental Herb and Magic Coat together. Lovely Kiss can help with Spore's problem of not being able to put Grass-types (AH) to sleep;(ASC) you can put Gras.ns-types (AH) to sleep with Lovely Kiss instead. Substitute can help Smeargle with sleep rolls and allow it to take a hit from behind the Substitute and Spore/Lovely Kiss the opponent once more.

Set Details
========
Running 252 Speed EVs with a Speed boosting nature can let Smeargle outspeed as many pokemon Pokemon as possible. Speed is Smeargle's only valuable useful/productive stat as it relies on Speed to win. You can put the extra evs EVs anywhere since you're really only using Speed to sleep opponents faster so, you might as well put them into HP outspeed slower Pokemon and put them to sleep, so it is advisable to invest the remaining in HP. After Transform, Smeargle copies the opposing Pokemon's stats besides HP, in which it retains. The ability Own Tempo was chosen due to Moody being banned from 1v1 and Technician being useless on this set. Mental Herb can help Smeargle out with Taunt users,(RSH and AC) as Mental Herb lets Smeargle not be get affected by one Taunt and choose to sleep the opposing Pokemon put the opposing Pokemon to sleep. Quick Claw is also an option for Smeargle as it can let Smeargle cheese games from Quick Claw's 20% chance of letting your Pokemon move first and letting Smeargle put the opposing Pokemon to sleep. Sitrus Berry can negate restore HP lost from Struggle recoil, (AC) and heal Smeargle also using Substitute.

(It would be easier to comprehend if you could cite one or two examples of Pokemon against which these starts work and doesn't work, preferably well known examples)
Usage Tips
========

Only use Smeargle Use Smeargle only if you suspect that your opponent will bring a slower Pokemon such as Bulky Offensive bulky offensive Pokemon or Stall Pokemon. When you send out Smeargle, you should almost always use Spore turn 1 besides when you expect a physical hit from a faster opponent, in which case you can use King's Shield or when you expect a status move, Spore(just clarifying whether you meant Spore or Substitute) is the best move to use against any status move user. Magic Coat can also help you bounce back a predicted Taunt when you are running Quick Claw instead of Mental Herb. After you Spore the opposing pokemon, Pokemon, it's(AA) recommended you Imprison first, (AC)so (RC) when you Transform, you block all of your opponent's moves and force them to Struggle.

(It would be better if you could include examples wherever you'd mentioned a Pokemon archetype)

Team Options
===========
Pokemon like Pheromosa and Zeraora benefit from Smeargle's ability to scare off bulkier builds, (AC) while (RC) Smeargle benefits from both of appreciates their Speed stats, which can help immensely, (AC) especially if your opponent is running a faster build. The opponent will think twice before sending in a bulky Pokemon as Smeargle defeats it. So, Pokemon that enjoy having these walls not picked makes a good team option for Smeargle,(AC) like Mega Lopunny and Donphan. Smeargle can deal with the slower, bulkier, powerful Pokemon like Mega Mawile which, benefits hyper offensive teams unable to OHKO these pokemon.

(Don't leave a section blank; maybe write that it cannot pull off any other viable set because of its poor Speed/ poor bulk.)

Checks and Counters
===================

•Faster Pokemon: Due to Smeargle's mediocre speed of 75 and terrible bulk, it's(AA) very unlikely you will be able to get a Spore off against an opposing Mega Lopunny or Mimikyu before they OHKO you back.

•Grass-types(AH): With most Smeargle sets only running Spore, you can see why it might have trouble with Grass-types(AH). Due to grass types Grass-types being immune to Spore, it they makes Smeargle vulnerable to opposing status like sleep or an attack. This can be supressed by the use of Lovely Kiss though.

•Super Effective Z-Move Users: Even after Smeargle puts an opposing pokemon Pokemon to sleep, then imprisons Imprisons and transforms Transforms, the Z move user can still use their Z move. This can result in OHKOs from super effective hits like Dragonium-Z Dragonite or Ghostium-Z Aegislash after transforming.
My first AM GP check. Content is good. Few things to bear in mind:
  • It is always Pokemon, not pokemon.
  • There is no such phrase as "sleeping a Pokemon" ; it's either "putting a Pokemon to sleep", or inducing sleep to the opposite Pokemon.
  • Provide examples wherever possible.
  • Pokemon archetypes aren't written in capital letters; they are all written in all lowercase.

Here is a short video on how to implement the GP:

Before giving this up for actual GP, please do give the following link a read through to know the Grammar and PokeGrammer rules expected in an analysis : https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/spelling-and-grammar-standards.3588427/

[OVERVIEW]
(line break)
Smeargle has access to the combination of Transform, Imprison, and a sleep-inducing move, which grants Smeargle granting it a unique niche in being able to shut down almost any slower defensive Pokemon. (important to outright state what it does in the overview, lemme know if this isn't accurate enough) Smeargle has supbar defensive stats, however, resulting which results in it losing to any Pokemon faster than it due to it getting OHKOed or hit with Taunted. (incorporate the following two sentences into this paragraph)
Smeargle's base speed stat at 75, which reaches 273 with max investment, A fairly low base Speed stat of 75
leaves Smeargle to get outsped by common threats like Mega Lopunny, Mega Charizard Y and X, Greninja, and Mimikyu.
Smeargle relies heavily on sleep turns, (comma) as it can't beat any Pokemon that wakes up before Smeargle it sets up Imprison and transforms.

With the use of Spore, Smeargle increases its chances of being able to use Imprison + Transform while taking minimal damage. Imprison doesn't allow the foe to use shared moves prevents the foe from using moves it shares with Smeargle; (semi) and when paired with Transform, it this won't let the foe use any of its moves. The fourth moveslot is pretty flexible, since you can run a few different things like King's Shield, Magic Coat, Lovely Kiss, Substitute. King's Shield can help Smeargle live a physical hit it might not be able to live take a physical hit it otherwise wouldn't before putting the opponent to sleep. Magic Coat can help Smeargle out by bouncing opposing Taunts/status Taunt and other status moves back to the user. Usually, (comma) you would use Magic Coat if you are running Quick Claw. Lovely Kiss can help with Spore's problem of not being able to put Grass-types to sleep; you can put Grass-types to sleep with Lovely Kiss instead. Substitute can help Smeargle with sleep rolls get enough sleep turns (is this what you mean?) and allow it to take a hit from behind the Substitute and Spore/Lovely Kiss the opponent to put the foe to sleep once more.

Running 252 Speed EVs with a Speed-(hyph)boosting nature can let makes Smeargle outspeed as many Pokemon as possible. Speed is Smeargle's only useful stat, (comma) as it relies on Speed to win. You can put the extra EVs anywhere since you're really only using Speed to outspeed slower Pokemon and put them to sleep, so it is advisable to invest the remaining in HP. 252 HP EVs make Smeargle slightly better at taking hits and aren't useful elsewhere. After Transform, Smeargle copies the opposing Pokemon's stats besides HP, which it retains. The ability Own Tempo was is chosen due to Moody being banned from 1v1 and Technician being useless on this set. Mental Herb can help Smeargle out with Taunt users, as Mental Herb lets Smeargle not get affected by one Taunt and choose to put the opposing Pokemon put Taunt users to sleep. Quick Claw is also an option, (comma) for Smeargle as it can let Smeargle cheese games from Quick Claw's with its 20% chance of letting your Pokemon move first and letting Smeargle put the opposing Pokemon to sleep Smeargle use a sleep-inducing move before an otherwise faster foe can move. Sitrus Berry can restore HP lost from Struggle recoil, (comma) and heal Smeargle also using Substitute.

Usage Tips
========

Use Smeargle only if you suspect that your opponent will bring a slower Pokemon such as bulky offensive Pokemon or Stall Pokemon tank or wall. When you send out Smeargle, you should almost always use Spore turn 1 besides when first unless you expect a physical hit from a faster opponent, in which case you can use King's Shield or when you expect a status move, Spore is the best move to use against any status move user. Magic Coat can also help you bounce back a predicted Taunt when you are running Quick Claw instead of Mental Herb. After you using Spore on the opposing Pokemon, it's recommended you Imprison first, so when you Transform, you block all of your opponent's moves and force them to Struggle use Imprison and then Transform to force it to use Struggle.

Pokemon like Pheromosa and Zeraora benefit from Smeargle's ability to scare off bulkier builds, while Smeargle appreciates their Speed stats, (comma) which can help immensely, especially if your opponent is running a faster build against faster teams.
