[OVERVIEW]

Normal
========

Smeargle's massive support movepool lets it perform the role of lead entry hazard setter for offensive Normal-type teams. A unique combination of Stealth Rock, Sticky Web, and Spore allows it to support offensive teammates by chipping, slowing, and crippling foes early on in the battle. Sticky Web support from Smeargle is why hyper offensive Normal-type teams exist, and Smeargle is the only way to get it. Smeargle's ability to cripple leads with Spore or Nuzzle to set up hazards more easily also provides early momentum. However, its reliance on support moves and mediocre Speed stat make it susceptible to faster Taunt users such as Cobalion and Deoxys-S. It also has trouble against Magic Bounce and faster Substitute users such as Mega Sableye and Suicune, which can easily shut it down and set up on it. Smeargle is restricted to hyper offensive teams, as balance and defensive teams aren't in need of Sticky Web support.

Moves
========

Stealth Rock allows Smeargle to support its teammates by wearing down opposing teams. Sticky Web support from Smeargle lets teammates have an advantage against Speed-reliant offensive teams. This is especially helpful against Fighting-type teams with threats such as Choice Scarf Terrakion and Heracross. Spore combined with Focus Sash allows Smeargle to incapacitate opposing lead Pokemon for a few turns and set entry hazards without much fear. Nuzzle allows Smeargle to not be Taunt bait and spread paralysis, the latter of which is well appreciated by offensive teammates. After putting a Pokemon to sleep with Spore, Smeargle can also paralyze switch-ins using Nuzzle. Magic Coat is an option over Nuzzle that allows Smeargle to bounce back moves such as Taunt. However, it is heavily prediction reliant, and a poor prediction can result in Smeargle not being able to set up hazards. Taunt is also an option to stop slower Defog users such as Mantine from clearing the entry hazards, thereby keeping opposing teams pressured. It stops opposing hazard setters such as Ferrothorn as well.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed investment along with a Jolly nature allows Smeargle to outspeed and cripple slower Pokemon such as Swampert, Mantine, and Bisharp. Maximum HP investment improves its overall bulk, allowing it to take uninvested attacks such as Scald from Empoleon and Swampert. Since Smeargle has bad defenses, Focus Sash is used to ensure that Smeargle can almost always get some form of entry hazard up. Own Tempo, albeit situational, helps against Hurricane users.

Usage Tips
========

As a dedicated lead, Smeargle should usually be sent out first to set entry hazards. However, when against teams with faster Taunt users such as Cobalion and Deoxys-S, Smeargle should not be used as a lead, because those Taunt users will shut it down completely. Most of the time, Smeargle should use Spore first to put foes to sleep so it can set up hazards liberally, but when against teams with Pokemon that can switch into Spore such as Grass-types, it is important to focus on setting up hazards. Magic Bounce users such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye need to be taken out before Smeargle can attempt to set up hazards. If you're facing them, force them out on the first turn by leading with a teammate like Diggersby and double switch to Smeargle for a single guaranteed hazard before they Mega Evolve. Spore can be saved for late-game to cripple a troublesome defensive wall like Celesteela or a setup sweeper such as Bisharp. Nuzzle should be used to spread paralysis after using Spore, as a sleeping Pokemon will usually be switched to one vulnerable to it. It also lets Smeargle cripple setup sweepers like Taunt Gyarados. Against faster Taunt leads, Smeargle should utilize Nuzzle to cripple them or Magic Coat to bounce back the Taunt. Against offensive types such as Ground, Fairy, and Fighting, Sticky Web should be prioritized, as it gives your team a Speed advantage. Against defensive teams such as Poison, Stealth Rock should be prioritized so KOs will be easier to secure.

Team Options
========

Diggersby is a great teammate for Smeargle, as it can not only take advantage of Stealth Rock and Sticky Web but also pressure Defog and Rapid Spin users such as Mantine and Armaldo. Diggersby can also utilize a Swords Dance set to take advantage of the free turns that Spore provides. Mega Lopunny appreciates Sticky Web support letting it outspeed Choice Scarf users such as Terrakion and Victini, allowing it to pressure teams more effectively. It also eases Steel- and Rock-type matchups thanks to STAB High Jump Kick. Spore and Nuzzle support from Smeargle gives more setup opportunities to Porygon-Z, which is a fantastic special sweeper. Sticky Web allows it to outspeed even faster Choice Scarf users such as Victini and Greninja when at +1. Offensive Staraptor finds it easy to wallbreak thanks to Stealth Rock support and can deal with Fighting more easily with Sticky Web. Mega Pidgeot has fantastic Speed that is only augmented by Sticky Web support and can handle Fighting- and Steel-type teams due to its coverage of Hurricane and Heat Wave. Entry hazard support from Smeargle allows Meloetta to wallbreak more efficiently, as it need not worry about faster grounded threats such as Choice Specs Keldeo. Bewear's low Speed is mitigated by Sticky Web support, which enables it to wallbreak teams better. Its ability Fluffy allows it to be an offensive check to priority users such as Mega Scizor and Azumarill, which are troublesome for offensive teams.

Memento can be used over Nuzzle to prevent foes from using Defog or Rapid Spin, creating easier setup opportunities for Smeargle's teammates and bringing them safely into the battle.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Magic Bounce**: Pokemon with the ability Magic Bounce such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye completely prevent Smeargle from setting up entry hazards.

**Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users such as Deoxys-S, Cobalion, and Aerodactyl can easily shut down Smeargle due to its reliance on status moves.

**Tapu Koko**: Tapu Koko is a good check to Smeargle, as it runs Taunt commonly, cannot be put to sleep in Electric Terrain, and is immune to paralysis.

**Hazard Removal**: Dedicated Defog and Rapid Spin users such as Mantine, Zapdos, and Armaldo can clear away hazards set by Smeargle.

**Faster Grass-types**: Pokemon like Celebi and Tapu Bulu are not affected by Spore and hence can limit Smeargle to only one entry hazard.

**Hazards**: Smeargle's low bulk makes it easy to OHKO once chip damage disables its Focus Sash.

* Smeargle performs the role of lead hazard setter for offensively oriented Normal-type teams.
* Due to the move Sketch, it has access to pretty much almost every move in the game bar few exceptions which allows it to copy and retain the move used against it.
* However it cannot fully take advantage of such a gigantic movepool since it has low bulk with 55/35/45 defenses alongside awful attacking stats which rule out the possibility of offensive sets.
* In practical use, Smeargle is limited to support sets since it has moves such as Stealth Rock, Spore and Sticky Web in its arsenal which is well complemented by offensive teams and hence it has a niche as a suicide lead for such team archetypes. Mention how it gives momentum to this team. Why use Smeargle on HO over Stealth Rock Chansey?
* A coveted combination of Stealth Rock, Sticky web and Spore allows it to support offensive teammates by scoring easier KOs, out pacing more threats and crippling opposing Pokemon early on in the battle.
* Its reliance on support moves and a mediocre speed stat makes it susceptible by to faster Taunt users such as Cobalion and Deoxys-S, it also has trouble against Magic Bounce and faster Substitute users such as Mega Sableye and Suicuine respectively, which can easily shut it down and set up on it. Also relies heavily on Focus Sash to be active in order to take any hit.
* Emphasize Smeargle’s inability to be used on any archetype that isn’t purely HO

* Stealth Rock allows Smeargle to support its teammates by wearing down opposing teams and letting teammates have easier time knocking out or cleaning opposing teams due to the residual damage of Stealth Rock.
* Sticky Web support from Smeargle lets it teammates have an advantage against offensive teams as Sticky Web allows to outspeed opposing Pokemon, keeping up the offensive pressure. This is especially helpful against Fighting-type teams where threats such as Choice Scarf Terrakion and Heracross get neutralized slowed down due to Sticky Web support.
* Spore combined with Focus Sash allows Smeargle to effectively cripple opposing lead Pokemon for few turns and set entry hazards without much fear.
* Nuzzle allows Smeargle to not be a complete Taunt bait Pokemon, it is also very useful as it has a 100% chance to Paralyze opposing Pokemon which allows Smeargle to spread paralysis and is well appreciated by offensive teammates.
* Magic Coat is an option which can be used over Nuzzle, Magic coat allows Smeargle to bounce back moves such as Taunt and hazards however it is heavy prediction reliant and a miss predict can result in Smeargle not being able to set up hazards. Bit of a GP comment but a lot of sentences have been run-on including this one. Split into two.

Set Details

* Maximum Speed investment along with a Jolly nature makes Smeargle as fast as possible.
* Maximum HP investment improves its overall bulk.
* Since Smeargle has bad defenses, Focus sash as an item is used to ensure that Smeargle can almost always get a layer of hazard up.
* As Smeargle can run no offensive sets that can advantage of its ability Technician, Own Tempo as an ability is used on the set which prevents confusion however it is situational.

Usage Tips
========

* As a dedicated suicide lead, Smeargle should always lead first bar few exceptions to set hazards as leading first allows it to take advantage of its intact Focus Sash which can allow it to either set up an extra layer of hazard or cripple opposing Pokemon with Spore or Nuzzle.
* Preface the bullet below by explaining how it’s usually extremely predictable as a lead and how the opponent will usually play around it by leading with Grass-types and Taunt users.
* Smeargle should not be used as a lead against faster lead Pokemon such as Aerodactyl, Deoxys-S and Cobalion as such leads can easily use Taunt and prevent Smeargle from getting up hazards or crippling with Spore. However Smeargle can cripple such Leads with Nuzzle and reduce the ability of such leads to set up hazards drastically.
* Against offensive teams such as Ground, Fairy and Fighting, Sticky Web should be prioritized to set up as setting up Sticky Web against offensive teams gives it teammates an advantage of speed control hence having the upper hand in the battle.
* Against defensive teams such as Poison, Stealth Rock should be prioritized as it allows its offensive teammates to wear down such teams easily by having better chances to score KOs.
* Smeargle should use Spore first to put opposing lead to Sleep as this allows it few turns to set up hazards liberally, when against teams with Pokemon that can switch-in to Spore such as Grass-types and Overcoat users, it is important to focus on setting up hazards.
* Mention how preserving Smeargle is never recommended as the entire point is for it to get hazards up and faint in order for a teammate to come in safely.

Team Options
========

* Diggersby is a great teammate for Smeargle as it can not only take advantage of Stealth Rock and Sticky Web by scoring easier KOs and out pacing more Pokemon but it can also pressure Defog and Rapid Spin users such as Mantine and Armaldo respectively.
* Mega Lopunny appreciates Sticky Web support from Smeargle as it is able to outspeed Choice Scarf users such as Terrakion and Victini, allowing it to pressure teams more offensively. It also eases Steel- and Rock-type matchup for Normal-type teams thanks to STAB High Jump Kick.
* Spore and Nuzzle support from Smeargle allows for more set up opportunities to Porygon-Z which is a fantastic special sweeper for Normal-type teams. Sticky Web support from Smeargle allows it to outspeed even faster Choice Scarf users such as Victini and Greninja.
* Choice Band Staraptor finds it easy to wallbreak thanks to Stealth Rock support from Smeargle which allows it to clean or break teams more easily. With Sticky Web support, Staraptor can deal with Fighting-type teams more easily. I would mention Choice Band Staraptor specifically since readers might assume you’re talking about the defensive set in its analysis.
* Mega Pidgeot has fantastic speed which is only augmented thanks to Sticky Web support, it is also able to handle Fighting- and Steel-type teams due to its coverage of Hurricane and Heat Wave.
* Hazard support from Smeargle allows Meloetta to wallbreak more efficiently as it need not worry about faster grounded threats such as Keldeo.
* Bewear's low speed is enhanced by Sticky Web support which enables it to wallbreak teams better. Its ability Fluffy allows it to be an offensive check to Pokemon such as Mega Scizor and Azumarill which are troublesome for offensive teams.

* A hazard set with Spikes and Toxic Spikes can be used however it is hard to justify its replacement on the set. Smeargle has a huge movepool to choose from however due to its low defenses and non-existent offensive stats it cannot exercise different movesets without requiring extreme support from its teammates.
* Memento is pretty cool over Nuzzle too, I think it’s worth a mention here.

Checks and Counters
===================

Normal
--------
**Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users such as Deoxys-S, Cobalion and Aerodactyl can easily shut down Smeargle due to its reliance on status moves to be an effective hazard lead.

**Defog and Rapid Spin Users**: Dedicated Defog and Rapid spin users such as Mantine, Zapdos and Armaldo can clear away hazards set by smeargle later in the match and hence it is important to keep the offensive pressure to prevent clearing away of hazards.

**Magic Bounce**: Pokemon with the ability Magic Bounce such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye completely shut down Smeargle from setting up entry hazards.

**Mega Lopunny**: Mega Lopunny prevents Smeargle from setting up hazards as it can take out Smeargle due to the combination of Fake Out and Return breaking its Focus Sash. I don’t think this is worth including as most Mega Lopunny don’t even run Fake Out. Maybe if you could find a way to mention Pokemon that can neutralize it for one turn (Fake Out users, Serene Grace Jirachi) but I’m not too sure about this.

**Faster Sleep Absorbers Grass-types** Pokemon such as Celebi and Tapu Bulu are not affected by Spore and hence can limit Smeargle to only one layer of entry hazard. Just a minor nitpick since I don’t think any viable Overcoat user is faster than it.
AM check, implement what you agree with!

* Smeargle performs the role of lead hazard setter for offensively oriented Normal-type teams.
* Due to the move Sketch, it has access to almost every move in the game granting it a wide movepool, allowing it to function as a decent support lead.which allows it to copy and retain the move used against it.

Due to its low defenses, Smeargle has to rely on Focus Sash to be able to take any hit. Add in something about how it is typically unable to set hazards throughout a battle.
* In practical use, Smeargle is limited to support sets since it has moves such as Stealth Rock, Spore and Sticky Web in its arsenal which is well complemented by offensive teams and hence it has a niche as a suicide lead for such team archetypes. Smeargle allows for early momentum to offensive teams as it can cripple leads with Spore or Nuzzle and allowing it to set up hazards more easily. The first sentence in this bullet says the same thing essentially as the below bullet, except worse - delete it. Keep the second sentence of this bullet and but it after the next bullet. (Also just FYI but technically Smeargle isn't a suicide lead since it doesn't kill itself with a recoil move).
* A coveted combination of Stealth Rock, Sticky web and Spore allows it to support offensive teammates by scoring easier KOschipping down foes, out pacing more threats and crippling opposing Pokemon early on in the battle.

* There is no point in preserving Smeargle for later in the match as its sole job is to set up entry hazards as fast as possible as a lead and to faint so that a teammate can come in safely. This is not always true. Sometime you want to preserve Smeargle, especially against teams that can easily remove hazards, so that you can res-set hazards or sleep/paralyze more foes (true against slow, defensive teams that give Smeargle multiple opportunities).

**Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users such as Deoxys-S, Cobalion and Aerodactyl can easily shut down Smeargle due to its reliance on status moves to be an effective hazard lead.

**Tapu Koko**: Commonly runs taunt, immune to spore and paralyze

**Defog and Rapid Spin Users**: Dedicated Defog and Rapid spin users such as Mantine, Zapdos and Armaldo can clear away hazards set by smeargle later in the match and hence it is important to keep the offensive pressure to prevent clearing away of hazards.

**Magic Bounce**: Pokemon with the ability Magic Bounce such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye completely shut down Smeargle from setting up entry hazards.

**Faster Grass-types** Pokemon such as Celebi and Tapu Bulu are not affected by Spore and hence can limit Smeargle to only one layer of entry hazard.

**Hazards**: Breaks Focus Sash, especially important for when you don't lead Smeargle.
QC 1/3 Good job! Just make sure you capitalize all things that need to be capitalized for Smogon, and also make sure you use a comma in a list of 3 (Mantine, Zapdos, and Armaldo).

Overview:
- Mostly for after you write up, but combine your connected ideas. When you talk about being a lead, you should talk about the points together.
- It's not that Smeargle gets outclassed on bulkier builds. It's just that bulkier builds 1. don't really care about sticky webs and 2. don't want a suicide lead.
- Think you generally need to make Sticky Web a bigger point than it is right now (in the middle of one sentence). Sticky Web is why HO Normal even exists, and Smeargle is the only way to get it.

Moves:
- Should probably mention Taunt here too as another option.
- Smeargle generally doesn't care about bouncing back hazards. It's really all about bouncing Taunt.

Usage Tips:
- Also Magic Bounce Pokemon completely shut down Smeargle.
- Talk about the possibility of saving Spore for mid-game (or really just any time after leading).
- Talk more about Nuzzle uses.

Checks and Counters:
- Magic Bounce needs to be first. Smeargle literally doesn't have a way to beat them.

Nice work QC 2/3

Usage Tips:
- Remember that Smeargle can use Nuzzle or Magic Coat against opposing Taunt Leads, which may be your best play if you don't have a teammate that can better handle them.

QC 3/3 good job

It allows to stop opposing hazards setters such as Ferrothorn as well.

Set Details

Maximum Speed investment along with a Jolly nature makes Smeargle as fast as possible. Its base 75 Speed allows it Smeargle to outspeed and cripple slower Pokemon such as Swampert, Mantine and Bisharp. Maximum HP investment improves its overall bulk, allowing it to live uninvested attacks such as Scald from Empoleon and Swampert better. Since Smeargle has bad defenses, Focus sSash as an item is used to ensure that Smeargle can almost always get a layer of hazard up. Own Tempo as an ability is used on the set which prevents confusion, albeit situational, it helps against Hurricane users.

Usage Tips
========

As a dedicated lead, Smeargle should always lead first bar few exceptions to set hazards as leading first allows it to take advantage of its intact Focus Sash which can allow it to either set up an extra layer of hazard or cripple opposing Pokemon with Spore or Nuzzle. However when against teams with Faster Taunt users such as Cobalion and Deoxys-S, Smeargle should not be used as a lead as it is extremely predictable as a lead and can be shut down by Taunt users completely. Lead with Smeargle to capitalize on it's intact Focus Sash unless you're matched up against teams with Taunt users like Cobalion. Most of the time, Smeargle should use Spore first to put opposing lead to Sleep as this allows it few turns to set up hazards liberally, when against teams with Pokemon that can switch-in to Spore such as Grass-types, it is important to focus on setting up hazards. Magic Bounce user such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye need to be taken out before Smeargle can attempt to set up hazards as Smeargle is completely shut down by said Magic Bounce users. Use Spore the first turn unless you're matched up against Grass-types, in which case you should immediately prioritize setting up hazards. If you're facing Magic Bounce users like Mega Diancie, force them out on the first turn by leading with a teammate like Diggersby and double back into Smeargle for a single guaranteed hazard. Spore can be used saved for late-game to cripple a threat for the team such as troublesome defensive wall like Celesteela or a set up sweeper such as Bisharp and so Spore can be saved for later in the battle to cripple a threat for the team. Nuzzle should be used to spread paralysis against other teams as most players switch out once their Pokemon is put to sleep due to Spore and hence Nuzzle can be used to cripple the incoming Pokemon. It also lets it cripple set up sweepers like Taunt Gyarados which makes checking such Pokemon much easier for the team. Against opposing faster Taunt lead, Smeargle should utilize Nuzzle to cripple them or use Magic Coat to bounce back the Taunt. Against offensive teams types such as Ground, Fairy and Fighting, Sticky Web should be prioritized to set up against offensive teams, (AC) as it gives its teammates an advantage of speed control hence having the upper hand in the battle. Against defensive teams such as Poison, Stealth Rock should be prioritized as it allows its offensive teammates to wear down such teams easily by having better chances to score KOs.

**Magic Bounce**: Pokemon with the ability Magic Bounce such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye completely shut down Smeargle from setting up entry hazards.

**Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users such as Deoxys-S, Cobalion and Aerodactyl can easily shut down Smeargle due to its reliance on status moves to be an effective hazard lead.

**Tapu Koko**: Tapu Koko is a good check to Smeargle, (AC) as it runs Taunt commonly and so it can stop Smeargle from setting up hazards and is immune to Spore in Electric tTerrain while being fully immune to the paralyze effect of Nuzzle.

**Defog and Rapid Spin Users**: Dedicated Defog and Rapid sSpin users such as Mantine, Zapdos, and Armaldo can clear away hazards set by Smeargle later in the match and hence it is important to keep the offensive pressure to prevent clearing away of hazards.

**Faster Grass-types** Pokemon such as Celebi and Tapu Bulu are not affected by Spore and hence can limit Smeargle to only one layer of entry hazard.

**Hazards**: Low bulk and Smeargle's reliance of Focus Sash to function make it easy to one shot for opposing teams as chip damage breaks its Focus Sash preventing it from getting up entry hazards.

roman I know this happened a long time ago and I only just checked now, but when you do a GP check you can't straight up remove sentences without rewriting what they originally said. There's a lot of sentences that you had Harpp remove that were already checked and approved by QC, which means we agreed with their content being included in the analysis. If they were incorrect for grammar, then changing them to fit grammar standards is fine, but there's several instances where you completely removed actual information (not just fluff) without restating it.

Harpp , please revert the text I indicated on discord when you get a chance.

========

As a dedicated lead, Smeargle should always lead be sent out first barring a few exceptions to set hazards as leading first allows it to take advantage of its intact Focus Sash which can allow it to either set up an extra layer of hazard or cripple opposing Pokemon with Spore or Nuzzle. However, (comma) when against teams with faster Taunt users such as Cobalion and Deoxys-S, Smeargle should not be used as a lead as it is extremely predictable as a lead and can be shut down by Taunt users because those Taunt users will lead against it and shut it down completely. Most of the time, Smeargle should use Spore first to put opposing lead to Sleep as this allows it few turns to foes to sleep so it can set up hazards liberally, but when against teams with Pokemon that can switch-in to switch into Spore such as Grass-types, it is important to focus on setting up hazards. Magic Bounce users such as Mega Diancie and Mega Sableye need to be taken out before Smeargle can attempt to set up hazards as Smeargle is completely shut down by said Magic Bounce users. Use Spore the first turn unless you're matched up against Grass-types, in which case you should immediately prioritize setting up hazards. If you're facing Magic Bounce users like Mega Diancie them, force them out on the first turn by leading with a teammate like Diggersby and double back into switch to Smeargle for a single guaranteed hazard before they Mega Evolve. Spore can be saved for late-game to cripple a threat such as troublesome defensive wall like Celesteela or a set up setup sweeper such as Bisharp. Nuzzle should be used to spread paralysis after using Spore, as a sleeping Pokemon will usually be switched to one vulnerable to it against other teams as most players switch out once their Pokemon is put to sleep due to Spore and hence Nuzzle can be used to cripple the incoming Pokemon. It also lets it Smeargle cripple set up setup sweepers like Taunt Gyarados which makes checking such Pokemon much easier for the team. Against opposing faster Taunt leads, Smeargle should utilize Nuzzle to cripple them or use Magic Coat to bounce back the Taunt. Against offensive types such as Ground, Fairy, (comma) and Fighting, Sticky Web should be prioritized, as it gives its teammates an advantage of speed control your team a Speed advantage. Against defensive teams such as Poison, Stealth Rock should be prioritized as it allows its offensive teammates to wear down such teams easily by having better chances to score KOs so KOs will be easier.
