Welcome to the second iteration of the Smogon Exhibition, a place for the Official and Core Metagames not in SPL to compete in a team tournament setting. This year's tournament will be co-hosted by myself and dream. 8 teams will compete over the course of 9 weeks to determine the second Smogon Exhibition champions!
Here's a rundown of the tournament:
- 8 teams, each with a manager and assistant manager.
- 8 starting slots each week, 2 each of Ubers, Little Cup, Monotype, and PU.
- 10 minimum players per team (8 starters, 2 substitutes) and 16 maximum players per team (8 starters, 8 substitutes). Managers will be given 100k credits for the player auction.
- 7 week regular season with 2 week playoff (between the top 4 teams)
- There will be a midseason auction, with signups running during Week 3 and the auction happening alongside Week 4. Note that only players who signed up originally are eligible for the midseason auction
- There will not be retains from last year, and managers cannot play.
The managers and their team names are as follows:
Lake Valor Guardians - managed by suapah and obii
Relic Castle Fossils - managed by Quote and tennisace
Victory Road Elites - managed by Corporal Levi and dcae
Cinnabar Firedogs - managed by Mysterious M and Tricking
Alolan Island Hoppers - managed by Megazard and HJAD
Mauville City Magnets - managed by Coconut and Finchinator
Striaton City Snackers - managed by Teddeh and dibs
Dragon's Den Drakes - managed by Cynara and Void
Player Signups can be found here: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/smogon-exhibition-ii-player-signups.3645026. As a reminder, while the tiers you put in your signup post aren't binding, you should only put down tiers you would be able to play in a tournament environment, as your signup post will affect how the managers consider you. Signups are slated to run until the 4th of January, with the auction happening on the 6th (check signups thread for more details).
Identity
hey pals this stuff is just the cliffnotes, for the full list of rules for Smogon Tournaments check here
About playing on alts: It is entirely allowed to play on an alt other than your own main forum name, though if your opponent wishes to confirm your identity, you must log on to your main alt to show them you are who you claim to be. This is to prevent people from pretending to be who they're not.
About playing on different servers: Tournament matches must be played on the Smogtours server. The Main PS! server is also acceptable if both parties agree to that. Other servers are not sanctioned by the TD team and playing in them might result in your game not counting. Protect yourself from that by playing in Smogtours, where we also have the power to recreate games that end due to DC's.
Scouting
On scouting opponents: Going through your opponents replays of tournament and ladder games is entirely allowed, as long as a game is public there is nothing preventing you from watching it. An exception to this is abusing powers granted to you by being staff on Smogon or PS! to gain access to information a normal user wouldn't have access to, which is strictly forbidden.
On leaking teams: Divulging private information about someone's planned team to their opponent is never allowed, and will be heavily sanctioned. Requesting that such information be divulged is also grounds for punishment. Keep your scouting to publicly available information and you'll be fine.
Timer Clause / Disconnections
Alongside a regular 5 minute timer there is also a separate disconnection timer of 5 total minutes as well. The 'total' in 5 total minutes refers to the fact that the disconnection timer does not replenish like the regular timer does. Should you disconnect during your match, then the regular timer will stop going down and the disconnection timer will kick in instead. The disconnection timer automatically keeps track of how long a disconnection lasts and switches back to the regular timer once the player reconnects to the server, regardless of it being one lengthy disconnection or multiple shorter ones. Once the disconnection timer expires the match ends and the Tournament Directors/hosts will determine whether a recreation or timeout result is appropriate. In order to minimize the opportunity of abusing disconnections, we won't reveal the exact criteria for a recreation to the public.
In summary, these are the important things to note regarding the Smogtours timer:
