Smogon Simple Questions & Suggestions Thread

I'm looking to host and register a new Showdown server, but I'm confused by all the names shown on https://pokemonshowdown.com/servers/ since I don't know how to change the URL from the IP address. Am I expected to be able to do this, or does Smogon change it somehow once I've registered the server? If I have to do it, could someone please offer some guidance on how to do it? I know what I'm doing setting up the server, I just don't know how to change the URL

Hi, so I want to ask something regarding the HTML tag

for some reason, if there are quotation marks in a <div>, <img> or <a href> tag, it does not recognize them (thus not color them in their respective colors). However, the ending tags (</div> and </a>) are recognized with no problems.

Here's an example:

HTML:
<div class ="test">
<img src="//play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/rotom.gif" alt="Rotom"/>
</div>
However, when I c/p from someone else's HTML tag (where it is correctly colored), it appears as correctly colored. I tried to find on my own what's causing this, but unsuccessfully. It will be appreciated if someone explains what am I doing wrong

(P.S. Notepad++ recognizes the tags, which is confusing me even more).

EDIT: OK nevermind, it seems like preview is just really bad, sorry for posting and later just disregarding it. But what is up with Preview anyways to do this?

I'm pretty much new here, signed up on Smogon few hrs ago. I replied to the thread with necessary details of second random battle tournament commencing from 8th of Jan. Last date of signing up is 31st of Dec. How will I get to know if I've been confirmed for this tournament?
They'll probably notify you somehow if you've been drafted.

So as far as I can tell, this is the most relevant place to ask this question as it pertains to the history of all of Smogon. I saw a whopping 346 eligible voters for the latest Zygarde suspect in OU and it got me wondering; what suspect had the highest participation all-time (i.e. most voters)? I'd assume some OU test, seeing as that is the "standard" tier, but my curious and stat-driven mind would like to know if anyone has an answer.

Probably the Zygarde suspect you're referencing. You're right that OU has the most normally, but this is an outlier even for OU's standards. You can look in the Blind Voting subforum and look at posts per thread for a rough idea how many voters any given suspect had.

Meme arrows aside, smog awards are still happening, but the people (me + the rest of tfp staff) are currently putting most/all our efforts towards the SPL Power Rankings which also happens around this time every year. You'll have to wait a bit longer before anything happens regarding that.

Also, what are the best resources for team building generally?
It's hard to nail down concrete (up-to-date) resources specifically on teambuilding, each metagame subforum does have a form of Role Compenium/"Good Cores" (OU's for instance: here and here) thread that compiles useful things for reference. Our media publication also has posted several iterations of teambuilding guides throughout the years, but nothing for general teambuilding this generation.

I've had some trouble with logging into my account. I was able to log into the Forum, but my teams didn't transfer over and neither did my score. I am logging in on a different computer, which probably has something to do with it, but I can't figure it out.

Sounds like you’re referring to Pokemon Showdown! Teams aren’t saved into PS! itself, but rather on the computer you made it on. Therefore, you won’t have access to your teams on a computer you didn’t make them on. However, you can send the imports of your teams from one computer to the next to have access to them on a different computer.

Let's say I want to discuss the competitive meta/potential of a non core-series Pokemon game (it's Conquest btw). What's the best subforum to do this? OI would be my first guess but they do explicitly disallow discussion of "competitive play against other humans," which is exactly what I want to talk about.
