Really happy to see new faces like Sensei Axew, Expulso, eifo and Pepeduce get their name recognized enough to get drafted in this. I feel like Pepeduce has been having a nice run in this gen so seeing him as a starter is v hype, not that hyped to play vs his unorthodox techs but hype to see him play nonetheless.

Expulso fills in the roll of Void's support (according to what people have been saying) but also has the possibility to start in case Void's run doesn't go as well. Sensei Axew finds himself in a similar spot but him starting seems a bit harder since the RU starter of his team, roman, is actually a mainer himself so unless he cancers or goes winless I don't think we'll see a different face in the lineup.

Eifo could also be an RU substitute/support cause he knows the tier but also offers the possibility of being a UU sub given his latest UU Open run, where he made it incredibly far.

I honestly didn't expect to see Kink as an RU starter, I legit thought he had quit and when he started playing again I thought he had just limited it to UU. Anyway, he had the best record in RU last snake, but that was in a meta he had been passively playing for a long time. Not sure how in touch he could be w/ current RU or how fast he'll adapt to future tier changes as the tour goes on. He does have the support of a former Tier Leader who's p active nowadays so it shouldn't be tough for him but I feel like kink's and llamas' styles are v different when it comes to building.

Then there's Void and Charmflash, another 2 players who I didn't think I'd see in the roster as RU players. Charmflash was RU support last year and also started talking about how much he liked current RU (even made a post in the VR thread the same day he said so) so that was enough to net him a slot given last year's tournament. And Void I have no clue how he got himself in RU, I think he beat bouff in snake 1 so there's that? Definitely don't mean to underestimate him, I was just surprised given how out of the blue it felt considering there were a bunch of worthy names to take as ru slots but I suppose they don't have as much experience.

Snaga got himself support from the ru italian himself and he had been on a run in the recent RU open so that pick is way less surprising. And well I dont really have anything to say about Nat, ODR and Ajna rofl.

feliburn is the hero of this tour. this is a fact of life. in all seriousness, i am excited to see some new faces here, the return of kink will also be quite interesting to see. also ofc rooting for all my friends. don't have any real predictions on who will do the best and who will be a dark horse - the field is relatively even and i don't see anyone flat out dominating (though i hope feli does of course). the meta is in a pretty good spot right now so expecting to see some solid games all around

i'm sure a lot of mainers are bummed that they didn't get picked, though tour culture dictates at least a few tour mains will seep through. only real snubs ig i'd call are kw/meru. kw is positive on the sheet and had a fine ru open even if he's a bit of an oddball and did poorly his last ru official (spl x.) Meru on the other hand i kinda get since he's been left out to dry a few times in a row now, even though he's had a very good open run. I think a broader thought i'd like to expand on here is that managers seem to care little abt ongoing slam runs. odr went undrafted last year despite being deep (draft was mid open), and several other picks across the board are left out of snake (think pdt confide thefranklin meru tb02)...moute went r13 and high impulse r14 etc. ppl who did well in slam but alrdy had names established obvs made it, but if solely current slam going for them seemed to be left to dry. idk, just an interesting dynamic to me that the consideration of success or what have you is separated from that to officials.

speaking on the pool itself, could see anyone succeeding or failing rlly. odr probably has the most pressure ever of any new prospect to officials. ajna is ajna, success story speaks for itself mostly. i could go off or just flame out, idk, i'm gonna try my best to keep it cool, take it one week at a time. feli always has the support of the ru base, i'm sure he's as eager as anyone, lookin to join the club of notching a good ru official. he obvs had a good wcop so this undoubtedly pepped his step a bit. i appreciate him as a friend and he knows it but he still needs to prove himself in ru, end of story. roman is p good, can't see him going negative beyond 4-5 tbh. ppdc idk some ppl are hot tamale on him, could see him finishing legit anywhere. see you week 1.

exiitng mainer land we start w/ snaga. i think he's capable of doing fine, like anyone here. not a lot to say idk, lower tier support guy for awhile who had a decent ru run. reminds me big time of ultraballz in snake 3. charm is squarely in the category of who knows what to expect, self-admitted even. ive heard good and bad. to quote the good, "charms gonna smash." jokes aside he's competent and like a lot of ppl here has different views on what's good. could payoff, who knows. void 3-0d a highly impressive lineup of mael, bouff, and me in the "Natalie." days. i'd be shocked to see him recreate this success vs (sorry lower tier haters) the good pool we have. lastly i have like 60% confidence kink isn't even ruing or fully ruing so i'll judge him and llamas both. kink is volatile and uses weirdo maneuvers but in the words of kw: "did it work?" and it did for him last year. llamas is loved and i'd like to see him have the chance, though i'd place him lower than kink on the ru totem pole.

wish everyone has a good time but that obvs isn't realistic. ig above anything else i hope the games are clean, across the board. again, unrealistic. i think if anything defines this pool it's that there's a lot of ppl with unique views on what to use. i'd classify kink/me/charm/ppdc under this, at least..maybe others. could end up reflecting/leading the ru meta into weird territory it wouldn't otherwise though this effect is softened by monthly shifts potentially.

Personally not too surprised at the final RU rankings, tour mains like charmflash and void tend to get ranked low because the rankings are done mostly by tier mains. Which is probably unfair but they tend to do either very well or lose 3 straight and get subbed out. I would not be surprised to see either void or charmflash end up with a top 3 record but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see other people playing for their teams week 4, definitely watching both with interest. Kink is in 8th in spite of his great record last year because the perception is he hasn’t touched the tier or gen much this year, and I know some of the rankers don’t value his run last year very highly. That being said he had a decent(?) ru open run this year and from our interactions on the nagas so far seems in touch with the tier. Pepeduce got the standard new af mainer treatment where people don’t really know how to rank him which always ends with them in the 6-8 zone. Snaga I think is maybe a little underrated here, unlike the other tour mains he is mostly known for lower tiers and has done decent in rupl / snake, and I think his support is better than void and especially charmflash’s. Roman got the kink treatment but he shows his face around ru more so got higher votes. The top 4 is kind of unsurprising given the voters, obviously ajna was gonna be ranked first then nat / odr because nat is experienced and good (and cancer) and odr is the most exciting new prospect. Long winded way to say rankings are pointless constructs of the biases of the voters, but yeah fell free to weigh in on who you think was snubbed or overrated. Week 1 should be up tonight and we can get some predictions going.

[Rattlers] Ajna v roman [Bushmasters]: roman has been getting a lot better recently, but its still hard to predict aginst Ajna every week honestly. Still gonna be a cool matchup to watch, 60/40
[Astrotias] Feliburn v Void [Taipans]: no real evidence that void isnt crust or knows how this tier works, and Feliburn has just been hot af in every lower tier pl this year. 70/30
[Serpents] Nat v Pepeduce [Lindworms]: better playing skill, but Pepeduce can definetly find ways to throw Nat off guard and win the game. If that doesnt work, i believe its only gonna be downhill from there. 65/35
[Mambas] Charmflash v atomicllamas [Nagas]: Charmflash is def not a fan favourite, but hes still a capable player and im sure he got his hands on the tier alredy. llamas on the other hand is a strong competitor and has been playing this gen for longer. Ajna vs roman is intriguing as roman had a great debut last Snake, but I think you have to favor Ajna against anyone in this field until the games give you a reason to believe otherwise (if that ever happens). I am excited to see what roman comes up with to try to pull the upset as he seems to be in-touch with the tier. Ajna is also a great builder, so this match may be most likely to push standards and set the tone for weeks to come (so long as tier shifts don't destroy the metagame again).

I have less experience with Nat this generation than last and Pepeduce is the player I am least familiar with this generation, but I think both will hold their own this tournament. Nat is the more proven player, but she can be tilt prone and Pepeduce seems to be down to innovate, so this could be the perfect match-up for his debut. I do not think that prospect alone is enough grounds to pick the upset though. Nat is a great player and could easily prepare well enough to avoid any issues.

odr will win so long as snaga does not use Weakness Policy Sigilyph. odr is yet to play an official team tournament, but snaga lacks a large amount of firsthand playing experience himself. odr's RU Open runs are second-to-none and I think he is great in this metagame. snaga has a lot to prove until I can invest the same degree of confidence in him. I think that by the middle of the season, snaga will get everything together and put up a decent record, but odr is the favorite here for sure.

I have no clue who will win Charmflash vs atomicllamas, but atomicllamas went 3-0 on my team in SPL 6 (2015 baby!!!), so I think he is pretty cool Will be interesting to see which player wields their Rotom-Mow and Slowbro-Galar better here. I imagine the conventional favorite is Charmflash due to him having some good recent official results, but with the good also comes the struggles of 2020 and his lack of recent RU results, so it is hard to say overall.
