SMOGON VGC PL 2021

This thread will be used for me to post information about the league, such as the schedule, dates for signups and auction, and for coaches to make their discords public or provide information about tryouts if they wish. This thread will also be used for final decisions of a tournament director nature, such as activity decisions, punishing people for cheating, etc. Do not post in this thread if you are not a manager, your post will be deleted and you will possibly be infracted.

Managers Announcement: June 6th, 2021​

Thank you to all of the wonderful applications we received for the Smogon VGC PL for managers. It was a rather difficult choice all around and we have spent some serious time considering all options for our management team. We did not reach the threshold we'd like for player signups to allow for 8 teams, so we will be moving forward with only 6 Teams 8 Teams as of the 6/11/21 expansion for our first season. I've laid out the rules for clarity below:

1. Managers are allowed one (1) Assistant Manager.
2. Managers and Assistant Managers may self-purchase prior to auction for 10,000 credits each.
3. There will be eight (8) starters and three (3) substitutes: the minimum number of players on a team is eleven (11).
4. There will be no midseason.
5. There will be a severe penalty for any team that picks up a known alt of a banned player, or any player masquerading as another person. It is important to establish that both parties will be penalized immediately and appropriately if they are found doing so.

This was an extremely difficult decision because we had so many talented individuals applying for management. All managers who have made the roster are encouraged to form a tryouts system to help with their draft decisions. Unreality and Yzan have had to back out of their manager positions due to irl conflicts. The VGC Moderation team selected ValentineVGC and Raghav Malaviya as the new 6th managers!

The draft date that we're tentatively looking at is June 20th, so everyone has plenty of time to signup. We will reassess later this week and make a final call on whether or not the tournament needs to add more teams.

Re: Playoffs Format

In the managers chat today we discussed whether playoffs would follow the NPA-style 7-slot playoffs or Smogon-PL style 8-slot playoffs + tiebreaker and we have decided to go with the latter.

Playoffs semifinals will be posted immediately once all rosters are collected and will have a deadline of one week. Any potential tiebreakers will similarly have a deadline of one week.

Re: Tiebreakers Format

Should a tiebreak need to occur during a playoffs match, a 3 on 3 match will occur using the following format:

Slot 1: VGC 21
Slot 2: Manager A Pick, where Manager A represents the higher seeded team
Slot 3: Manager B Pick, where Manager B represents the lower seeded team

old gen formats may not stack (i.e. the tiebreaker cannot have two VGC 2017 slots)

The qualifying teams will be announced once all results are in for this week, or earlier if any more results will not affect seeding/playoffs. Thanks!
