[OVERVIEW]

Sporting a spectacular base 145 Special Attack and impressive base 130 Speed, Spectrier offers a blend of utility and offense that has proven its worth in the Series 8 metagame on a variety of team compositions. Spectrier also has a wondrous signature ability in Grim Neigh, which boosts its Special Attack by one stage for each KO it gets, allowing it to become increasingly volatile the longer it is in play. However, Spectrier does lack strong coverage options outside of Ghost-type attacks, and it is also outclassed offensively by its counterpart fusion forme, Calyrex-S. While the metagame does host a series of strong Dark-type Pokemon capable of dispatching or outright walling Spectrier, it is still a force to be reckoned with.

[SET COMMENTS]

* Hyper Beam provide Spectrier with speed control when Dynamaxed through Max Strike while also allowing it to hit Dark-type Pokemon such as Incineroar, Moltres-G, and Urshifu-S.

* Mud Shot offers Spectrier a way to boost its Special Defense with Max Quake and also has the added benefit of doing increased damage to Steel and Fire-type Pokemon. Dark Pulse is an option as well for hitting Ghost-immune Pokemon such as Indeedee-F.

* Nasty Plot is an option for teams that have strong forms of redirection, which enables Spectrier to safely boost its Special Attack.

* 76 HP EVs allow Spectrier to survive Wicked Blow from Urshifu-S and Water Spout from Kyogre while Dynamaxed. 180 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed Cinderace.

evs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 4 SpA / 52 SpD / 156 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Will-O-Wisp lets Spectrier cripple physical attackers such as Groudon, Landorus-T, and Thundurus that a partner such as Solgaleo or Necrozma-DM may struggle to deal with effectively.

* Bulldoze is an amazing option for Weakness Policy users such as Solgaleo while also providing speed control. Snarl gives Spectrier strong utility for weakening foes while also being a strong option to boost its own damage output with Max Darkness.

* Taunt allows Spectrier to prevent Trick Room strategies and cripple the likes of Amoonguss and Porygon2.

* Safety Goggles is an amazing item that lets Spectrier safely lead into status-inducing leads and teams that rely on Rage Powder for redirection. Colbur Berry can give Spectrier the ability to tank a Wicked Blow from Urshifu-S outside of Dynamax or even Max Darkness from Yveltal.

* 252 HP EVs paired with 44 Defense EVs are enough for Spectrier to survive a Choice Band Rillaboom's Grassy Glide. The Special Defense investment lets Spectrier tank +2 Max Starfall from Xerneas. 156 Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Spectrier to outspeed maximum Speed Regieleki when its Speed is reduced by one stage.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Haze is an option for fighting teams that spam stat reduction, and Disable is great for foes like Zacian-C, which is typically unable to touch Spectrier afterwards if its only coverage move is Close Combat.

[OVERVIEW]

Sporting a spectacular 145 base Special Attack and impressive 130 base Speed, Spectrier offers a blend of utility and offenses that has proven it's worth in the Series 8 metagame. Spectrier also has a wondrous signature ability in Grim Neigh, which boosts it's Special Attack 1 stage for each knockout. This allows Spectrier, allowing it to becoming increasingly volatile the longer it is in play. Spectrier does lack strong coverage options outside of Ghost-type attacks, but does offer a nice range of support moves allowing it to play a part in a variety of team compositions. (Just add this to the end of the first sentence in the overview) (Put one line here specifically about being offensively outclassed by Calyrex-S)

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Hyper Beam
move 3: Mud Shot / Dark Pulse
move 4: Protect / Nasty Plot
item: Life Orb / Focus Sash
ability: Grim Neigh
nature: Timid
evs: 76 HP / 4 Def / 244 SpA / 4 SpD / 180 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Shadow Ball is Spectrier's best STAB option, and does large chunks of damage to anything that doesn't resist. Life Orb Max Phantom is capable of OHKOing threats such as Rillaboom, Regieleki, and Landorus-T, while also offering 2HKO's up to Pokemon such as Tapu Fini, Kyogre, Groudon, and Zacian-C. (I think Shadow Ball dips into an obvious move choice, so let's cut it)

* Hyper Beam gives Spectrier some speed control in Dynamax through Max Strike, while also allowing it Spectrier to hit Dark-type Pokemon such as Incineroar, Moltres-G, and Urshifu-S.

* Mud Shot offers Spectrier a way to boost it's Special Defense with Max Quake, but also has the added benefit of OHKOing Stakataka through a Shuca Berry (This is really specific tbh, would like to see this just say hits various Steel-types as well as Incineroar). Dark Pulse is an option as well for hitting Ghost-immune Pokemon such as Indeedee-F.

* Protect allows Spectrier to stall out opposing Dynamax or field conditions. (Protect does not warrant explanation) Nasty Plot is an option for team builds that have strong forms of redirection which enables Spectrier to safely boost its Special Attack OHKO a majority of the metagame.

* 76 SpA HP allows Spectrier to survive Wicked Blow from Urshifu-S and Water Spout from Kyogre while Dynamaxed. in Dynamax, and also allows for Spectrier to survive Kyogres Modest Water Spout through Dynamax. 252 SpA is for maximum damage output, while 180 Spe helps Spectrier to reach 190, outspeeding quicker opponents such as Cinderace and Inteleon. Its 180 Speed EVS allow it to outspeed Cinderace.

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Snarl Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Mud Shot / Bulldoze / Hyper Beam / Snarl
move 4: Taunt / Nasty Plot / Will-O-Wisp Protect
item: Safety Goggles / Colbur Berry
ability: Grim Neigh
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 4 SpA / 52 SpD / 156 Spe

(IMO moves like Hyper Beam / Mud Shot / Nasty Plot have no place on a supportive set, especially when most of the time its the partner that really wants to Dynamax. I also think WoW deserves it own slot, since the partner is typically an NDM or Solgaleo)

[SET COMMENTS]

* For supporting Spectrier, Max Phantasm has the added benefit of lowering opponents Defense, aiding ally physical attackers who don't typically Dynamax such as Zacian-C or Urshifu-S. (Same point as above)

* Snarl gives Spectrier strong utility for weakening opponents, while also being a strong max option to boost it's own damage output with Max Darkness. (Move this down to the Bulldoze section)

* Mud Shot can be used here to slow opponents outside of max, while still doing nice numbers to ground-weak Pokemon. Bulldoze is an amazing option for Weakness Policy Pokemon such as Solgaleo. Hyper Beam is always a welcomed coverage move for the Dynamaxing Spectrier, as even without plentiful Special attack investment, it can pick off weakened opponents who otherwise resist Shadow Ball or Snarl.

* Taunt is the best option here, allowing Spectrier to prevent Trick Room strategies or redirection. Nasty Plot allows Spectrier to still have sweeping potential when needed. Will-O-Wisp lets Spectrier cripple physically attacking Pokemon physical attackers such as Solgaleo, Landorus-T, and Thundurus-I, or Glastrier. (Move WoW mention to the top)

* Safety Goggles is an amazing choice which lets Spectrier safely lead into status-inducing leads, or teams who rely on Rage Powder for redirection. Colbur Berry can give Spectrier the ability to tank an Urshifu Wicked Blow outside of Dynamax, or even Max Darkness from Yveltal.

* 252 HP is the most optimal HP number for Spectrier, minimizing residual damage from Dynamax move effects, Status, or Weather. 44 Defense is enough for Spectrier to survive a Choice Band Rillaboom Grassy Glide outside of Dynamax, or two while under Dynamax. 52 SpD lets Spectrier tank a combination of Hurricane from Tornadus-I, in addition to Mystic Water Modest Kyogre Water Spout. It also allows Spectrier to survive 2 Max Starfall from Xerneas. 156 Speed reaches 187 speed, a speed bump that allows it to outspeed max speed Regieleki when reduced one stage, and also outspeeds max speed boosting nature base 60 pokemon such as Lapras by one point.

Spectrier's support movepool is much better than its offensive. Haze is an option for fighting teams that spam stat reduction, and Disable is great for opponents like Zacian-C who typically will be unable to touch Spectrier afterwards if it's only coverage move is Close Combat. A set utilizing Hex with Will-O-Wisp or other statuses from allies could be used, but would likely be inferior to the two core sets available.

It also allows Spectrier to survive a +2 Max Starfall from Xerneas (Not super huge on the elaboration of two things you take while dynamaxed as a supportive Pokemon, the Xern mention is good enough imo). 156 Speed reaches 187 speed, a speed bump that allows it to outspeed max speed Regieleki when reduced one stage, and also outspeeds max speed boosting nature base 60 pokemon such as Lapras by one point.
