Reserving Pelipper

:ss/Pelipper:

The favorite pelican from rain teams is a Counter to Choice Band Barraskewda since none of the moves 2HKO and have good recovery in Roost.

Set:
Pelipper @ Damp Rock/ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Roost
- U-turn
- Defog

Calcs:

252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Liquidation vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper in Rain: 118-140 (36.5 - 43.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

0 SpA Pelipper Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barraskewda in Rain: 107-126 (40.6 - 47.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Ferrothorn is a check. While Close Combat is obviously very annoying, Ferrothorn can switch in on Barraskewda's other attacks comfortably, even in Rain, and threaten an OHKO with Power Whip or knock off its Choice Band. Ferrothorn's presence also makes pivoting out with Flip Turn a lot riskier, since the chip damage from Iron Barbs will slowly wear Barraskewda down.

:ferrothorn:
0 Atk Ferrothorn Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Barraskewda: 100-118 (38 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 Atk Ferrothorn Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Barraskewda: 67-79 (25.4 - 30%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Barraskewda: 368-434 (139.9 - 165%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:barraskewda:
252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 66-78 (18.7 - 22.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn in Rain: 99-117 (28.1 - 33.2%) -- 86.8% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 248-292 (70.4 - 82.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Flip Turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 46-55 (13 - 15.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Flip Turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn in Rain: 70-83 (19.8 - 23.5%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Psychic Fangs vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 44-52 (12.5 - 14.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever

As it would be sad to not have Toxapex for Barraskewda VOTW, I’m gonna fill the submission for Tyson:

toxapex.gif

Toxapex @ Black Sludge / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 SpD
Calm Nature
- Knock Off
- Recover
- Haze
- Scald

Toxapex is a common Barraskewda check able to take Liquidation and Flip Turn fairly easily and to recover the chip damage of Flip Turn with Regenerator. You can even punish Barraskewda for clicking a move if you run a Rocky Helmet set. Toxapex is not a counter however, as it must watch out for Psychic Fang which is a guaranteed 2HKO and do way more than what you can recover if you run a mixed spread (which is the standard right now).

252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 124 Def Toxapex in Rain: 105-124 (34.5 - 40.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Psychic Fangs vs. 252 HP / 124 Def Toxapex: 188-222 (61.8 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Let’s move on to a new Victim of the Week. It’s time for a long time OU staple to shine with its terrifying Choice Band set. The victim of this week is the old age Rock titan Tyranitar.

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Adamant Nature
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

If it was first use as a special wall and a support Sand setter, Tyranitar lost this niche with the decline of Sand teams but didn’t completely disappeared from the OU tier. Indeed, the former bulky Rocks setter became a terrifying wallbreaker when people realized that it was extremely hard to switch into a Choice Band Tyranitar. Stone Edge is its main STAB and hardest hitting move able to 2HKO most defensive wall without a Rock resistance. Its quite unreliable because of the 80% accuracy but when it does hit, it claims kill relatively easily. Crunch is another STAB option with a bit less power but a perfect accuracy which can be useful when you don’t need the full power of Stone Edge. Earthquake is an interesting coverage option to hit annoying Steel types and defensive walls like Toxapex for very high damage. Lastly, Ice Punch helps dealing with Flying types without relying on Stone Edge while threating most Dragon types. Overall, even if it is rather slow and prediction reliant, this monster has both the power and the coverage required to be a threatening wallbreaker and shouldn’t be underestimated. Who are the checks and counters you would use to beat this thing? Feel free to tell us!

Submission phase will end on next Friday, good luck!

:SS/Buzzwole:
Buzzwole @ Leftovers/Heavy Duty Boots/Rocky Helmet
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Roost
- Toxic
Buzzwole is able tank banded ttars moves and out speed and kill ttar in one hit and best ttar can do is stone edge which is only 3HKO and has a tendency to miss too so its not the most reliable move to hit buzz with.Buzz is also able to keep itself healthy during a game with roost aswell. So i submit buzzwole as a counter to TTar
Here are some calcs:0 Atk Buzzwole Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 400-472 (117.3 - 138.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Buzzwole: 169-199 (40.4 - 47.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage and Leftovers recovery

Edit:Also wanted to add the fire punch calcs aswell cuz its used on CB tar and the below and above posts also have mentioned it so i am just gonna post the fpunch calcs fire punch is a guaranteed 3HKO:252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Buzzwole: 170-200 (40.6 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage and Leftovers recovery.so yeah for this u can scout with ur lando or any ground or ur fire resist and its not like buzz crumbles to fpunch it can take the fpunch and roost off and the ttar staying in on buzz is very unlikely.

Banned deucer.
everyone favorite bird; Galarian Zapdos as offensive check

:ss/zapdos-galar:
Zapdos-Galar @ Choice Band
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Close Combat
- Brave Bird
- U-turn

- Thunderous Kick

Galarian Zapdos is a great offensive Check and moreover a great offensive Wallbreaker in the current metagame and it can offensively check Tyranitar with its STAB move in Close Combat, as it achieves a clear OHKO on it. It can scare Tyranitar out and it can also gain momentum on Tyranitars teammates or dish out a hard hitting move into their direction. Galarian Zapdos our favorite roadrunner can do the trick very well and is a reliable breaker in the current metagame overall.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock / Spikes
- Power Whip
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed

Ferrothorn acts as a check to Choice Band Tyranitar while it's able to take hits decently it cannot switch in too frequently against Crunch or Earthquake. Ferrothorn can come into Tyranitars other moves and proceed in setting up hazards on the switch, clicking Knock Off on Tyranitar making it weaker or a teammate switching in, go for the 2HKO with Power Whip( this move is a lot more consistent than body press otherwise Tapu Fini is annoying), or Leech Seed to get some recovery. Mostly this submission is a lot more consistent in checking Tyranitar due to the lack of Fire Punch, which pressures Ferrothorn better.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Aqua Jet

Urshifu is a counter to Tyranitar, being able to switch in to all its attacks and OHKO it with Close Combat or gain momentum with U-turn.

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

IVs: 0 Atk

Keldeo as a check, as it can switch into tyranitar and return with a 4x super effective move in secret sword that bypass the sand boost due to hitting its phys. def.

Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Garchomp can switch in on a Stone Edge and KO Tyranitar back with Earthquake. Item can be Life Orb or Leftovers depending on preference

252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 302-356 (88.5 - 104.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 302-356 (88.5 - 104.3%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet / Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Def / 208 Spe
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog / Body Press / Bulk Up
- Brave Bird
- U-turn

This is a fast Corviknight. While it might be less bulky, it does have one thing going for it when compared with the standard set: it doesn't get 2HKOd by banded Stone Edge.

Banded Ttar does 48-56.5% to max/max impish, which is pretty good, all things considered. With Leftovers, that has a 30.5% chance to 2HKO (ignoring the miss chance or the increased crit rate). This makes it almost a coin flip, depending on how lucky you're feeling, and with Stealth Rock up, it becomes guaranteed. So although Corvi did get 4 PP off of Stone Edge, it failed in walling the Ttar.

With speed, though, you can switch in to Ttar no problem. The worst-case scenario says that, after SR, a crit has a 62.5% chance to OHKO. Barring that, however, you will always live (standard damage does 55-64.7%, a crit does 82.5-97.1%). That is, of course, if they even hit.

Each time they Stone Edge, Pressure removes a quarter of their PP for the move. While your lowered bulk means you take more per hit, you are faster than Ttar, and so you can Roost off the damage safely. Not only that, but your Roost means that you will resist the Stone Edge, and you can easily get back to full, even with crits. After 4 Edges, the Ttar will only be able to threaten you with Crunch; this does 44-52%. Defense drops are annoying, but so is Rocky Helmet.

You can also opt for Body Press or Bulk Up on this set, both of which increase your chances of dealing with Ttar. Bulk Up mitigates defense drops from Crunch and helps Corviknight generally against physically-oriented teams. Body Press is an old set, but still could be useful generally, and of course is very nice in dealing with a weakened Ttar (89-105% - forget Roost stalling, just get rid of your problems right then and there).

All this said, I'm not convinced of Corvi's ability to 100% of the time counter Ttar (I always assume my opponent will get all the luck) and so I will classify this as a check.

:ss/Kartana:

Kartana @ Choice Scarf/Choice Band/Life Orb
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Sacred Sword/Synthesis
- Smart Strike/Swords Dance

Literally any Kartana variant can survive Fire Punch-less TTar's moves and OHKO with multiple moves, making it a solid offensive check.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kartana: 175-207 (67.5 - 79.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 350-414 (102.6 - 121.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 468-552 (137.2 - 161.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Melmetal is a check. It can switch into any of Tyranitar's attacks except Earthquake, then threaten it with paralysis or an OHKO from Double Iron Bash or Superpower.

:melmetal:
252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 508-604 (148.9 - 177.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
