silvally bug

:ss/silvally-bug:
Silvally-Bug @ Bug Memory
Ability: RKS System
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Multi-Attack
- Rock Slide
- Flame Charge

this :silvally: set checks musharna as it can come in multiple amount of times and threaten musharna out due to its strong stab in multi-attack, bugvally can also set up a swords dance and can ohko musharana after it. furthermore silvally-bug profits from flame charge as it can gain a speed boost and is able to outspeed some scarfers in the tier. silvally-bug can also use rock slide against fyling-types which might be paired with musharna, to check bugtypes like silvally.
however, silvally-bug has to be careful when it hard switches into an already boosted musharna as it does a good amount of damage
to bugvally with its stab psychic and also its coverage-option in moonblast.
but in overall silvally-bug acts like a phenomenal check to this psychic-type pokémon in musharna.

calcs:
252 Atk Silvally-Bug Multi-Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 254-300 (58.2 - 68.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Silvally-Bug Multi-Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 506-596 (116 - 136.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

0 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Silvally-Bug: 108-127 (32.6 - 38.3%) -- 4.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Silvally-Bug: 75-89 (22.6 - 26.8%) -- 35.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

+1 0 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Silvally-Bug: 160-189 (48.3 - 57%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 0 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Silvally-Bug: 113-133 (34.1 - 40.1%) -- 35.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

I'm nominating this pyukumuku set as a defensive counter to the given musharna set.
1589762528026.png

Pyukumuku @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Block
- Toxic
- Soak

The combination of block, toxic, and rest allow pyukumuku to trap and poison musharna while healing both damage and status received from synchronize. Unaware allows pyukumuku to ignore musharna's stat changes, making it one of very few pokemon who can stop it after it has used multiple calm minds. The EV spread allows pyukumuku to avoid being knocked out with four psychics from musharna while also avoiding a three-hit-KO from max speed 252 attack silvally multi-attack 99.8% of the time. Having Pyukumuku on your team will make setup worthless for opposing musharna and will either trap it or consistently force it to switch out, benefiting your team greatly.

A downside to this set is its passivity. It loses hard to taunt and trick and can be broken by manectric, mr. rime, and glaceon. However, pairing pyukumuku with offensive threats and double-switching into them will allow your team to gain momentum any time that musharna is on the field.

Only one calculation matters in this case, since all stat changes are ignored:
+6 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 248 HP / 68 SpD Unaware Pyukumuku: 78-93 (24.9 - 29.7%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Trevenant @ Choice Band
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Shadow Claw
- Earthquake
- Trick

Choice Band Trevenant in general is a Pokemon that I think is fairly underrated. However, it acts as a great offensive check to Calm Mind Musharna. Its Ghost-type STAB means that it can hit most Psychic-types super-effectively since they run Colbur Berries and Trick means it can cripple those Pokemon as they try to set up or heal. Trevenant's CB Shadow Claw always 2HKOs Musharna, while Musharna can only 3HKO, with a small chance to 2HKO if rocks are up. If a Trevenant at full HP switches into an unboosted Musharna, it will always win the 1v1, the only shaky parts that make it a check instead of a counter are if Trevenant gets chipped too hard or if Musharna already has a Calm Mind up and Trevenant switches into an attack.

252+ Atk Choice Band Trevenant Shadow Claw vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 270-318 (62 - 73.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Trevenant: 121-144 (38.9 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Trevenant: 121-144 (38.9 - 46.3%) -- 23.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Trevenant: 183-216 (58.8 - 69.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Nominating Gothitelle as an offensive counter to Musharna.
1589814642295.png

Gothitelle @ Choice Band
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Nasty Plot
- Trick
- Psychic
Gothitelle serves as an excellent counter to Musharna, as it can take boosted attacks and return them with a boosted SE shadow ball. NP allows you to boost to extreme levels forcing Musharna to switch or lose a lot of health, Trick plus CB can at best remove Colbur Berry and even lock them into CM or Moonlight, giving Goth a chance to set up. Psychic is chosen as a STAB move to dent other mons other than Mush. Competitive makes Musharna regret getting the SpD drop from psychic or the SpA drop from Moonblast. The given EV plus a modest nature allows Goth to take a few hits and hit back very hard.
.
252+ SpA Gothitelle Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Musharna: 162-192 (37.2 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
2 252+ SpA Gothitelle Shadow Ball vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Musharna: 214-254 (49.1 - 58.3%) -- 98% chance to 2HKO
+1 8 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Gothitelle: 100-118 (29.1 - 34.4%) -- 4.2% chance to 3HKO
+1 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Gothitelle: 71-84 (20.6 - 24.4%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Nominating Glaceon as a offensive check to Musharna.

Glaceon @ Choice Specs/Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Frost Breath
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball
- Water Pulse

Glaceon can use it's move Frost Breath to ignore Musharna's stat changes so it can 2HKO it. Shadow Ball also hits it super effectively and 2HKO's it too. Heavy Duty Boots is also a item option in case you want to ignore Rocks damage.

8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Glaceon: 108-127 (39.8 - 46.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Glaceon: 108-127 (39.8 - 46.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Glaceon: 160-190 (59 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Glaceon: 160-190 (59 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Glaceon: 214-253 (78.9 - 93.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 8 SpA Musharna Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Glaceon: 214-253 (78.9 - 93.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Glaceon Frost Breath vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Musharna on a critical hit: 169-199 (38.8 - 45.7%) -- 16.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Glaceon Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Musharna: 202-238 (46.4 - 54.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Choice Specs Glaceon Frost Breath vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Musharna on a critical hit: 253-298 (58.1 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Choice Specs Glaceon Shadow Ball vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Musharna: 300-354 (68.9 - 81.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Basically, if you want a straightforward explanation on how this set works, you switch in on a Psychic/Moonblast/CM and then 2HKO it from there with Frost Breath/Shadow Ball.

The set is self explanatory. Spam Power-Up Punch until you are +2 or +3, then spam Darkest Lariat, and use resttalk when you are low.

+2 4 Atk Dusknoir Darkest Lariat vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Colbur Berry Musharna: 98-116 (22.5 - 26.6%) -- 25.9% chance to 4HKO

Calcs:
+3 76+ Atk Klang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 218-258 (50.1 - 59.3%) -- approx. 2HKO

Crustle @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- X-Scissor
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

crustle works great as an offensive check to musharna. crustle can smash up and survive a hit thanks to sturdyboots and has a chance to ohko mush at +2 and is a guaranteed ohko with just a bit of chip. with no boosts, crustle has nearly a 50% chance to 2hko mush with x-scissor, and the 2hko is guaranteed with a bit of chip.

252+ Atk Crustle X-Scissor vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 200-236 (45.9 - 54.2%) -- 48.4% chance to 2HKO

I'm Nominating Bronzor as a defensive counter to Musharna

Bronzor @ Eviolite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Toxic
- Psychic
- Stealth Rock
- Rest

Bronzor is a special tank that is very overlooked in the PU metagame. It can function well in the current tier shift given the current abundance of psychic types and lack of dark types within the tier. Steel/Psychic typing lets Bronzor resist both of Musharna's attacks and double resist its stab. Bronzor can then force Musharna out or deliver a fatal Toxic. Bronzor's Steel typing also prevents Synchronize from activating after using Toxic. It should be noted that Bronzor has virtually no attacking power and can become taunt bait. Nonetheless, Bronzor is indeed a true counter.

+6 8 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Bronzor: 76-90 (23.8 - 28.3%) -- 96.2% chance to 4HKO

As you can see, even +6 Musharna fails to deliver a 3HKO

0 SpA Bronzor Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Falinks: 104-126 (38.3 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Just for the lols here's a Psychic calc for Falinks

(As a side note this set functioned a lot more effectively in gen 7 when Psywave was still a legal move. Smh gamefreak, what were you thinking?)

nominating sliggoo as a defensive counter.

Sliggoo @ Eviolite
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Infestation
- Toxic
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

while it is weak to Moonblast, it can still take it pretty well and stall it out with chip from infestation+toxic while using rest talk when it is low health.

calcs:
8 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 66-78 (19.4 - 22.9%) -- possible 5HKO
+1 8 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 98-116 (28.8 - 34.1%) -- 1.6% chance to 3HKO
+2 8 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 130-154 (38.2 - 45.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+3 8 SpA Musharna Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 160-190 (47 - 55.8%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO
