Project SS RU Next Best Thing - On break

Belly Drum Gbro

1614240281533.png

Slowbro-Galar @ Quick Claw
Ability: Quick Draw
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Drain Punch / Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Shell Side Arm

With a very good base 100 Atk and access to Belly Drum, GalarBro can be one of the very deadliest sweepers in the game, let alone the tier. As it has Quick Draw, with a Quick Claw on top of that for good measure, it has two chances to move first every turn - this means you can run little speed and lots of bulk. I put a little speed on there to outspeed some mons in that speed tier (like Reuniclus) without relying on the item & ability. GalarBro has a very strong movepool, and the 3 attacks chosen are Drain Punch to do what its STAB cannot do and break the steel-types and give recovery, Zen Headbutt for STAB and a flinch chance that pairs well with its potential priority, and SSA as its second STAB move. EQ could be run over Drain Punch if you fancy something a bit stronger and not too fussed about the recovery.

Trick+Black Sludge G-Slowbro

Slowbro-Galar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def; -Spe)
- Trick
- Shell Side Arm
- Zen Headbutt
- Slack Off/Drain Punch

Trick is perfect when paired with G-Slowbro for 2 reasons:
(1) It can use Black Sludge both defensively and "offensively" being a bulky Poison-type pokemon. The damage provided by Black Sludge (1/8 of the total hp) puts really a lot of pressure;
(2) it has mixed offenses, so you can use all the atk-boosting items. Seriously, the worst item you can grab is Choice Scarf.

Shell Side Arm is chosen because it has a certain degree of flexibility between the chance of poison and the possibility to hit both sides of the spectrum. The latter aspect is important because most targets weak to this move (i.e. Fairies) are bulky on their SpD. Sludge Bomb is more solid for the good 30% poison chance but Slowbro-G is so bulky that can spam SSA enough to connect a poison anyway.
In my opinion, SSA is > than Sludge Bomb, but suggestins are welcome.

Slack Off is the preferred choice on the last slot to have reliable recovery unless in your metagame there are many targets weak 2x to Drain Punch.

The spread is a bulky and a physical oriented one because you want to be as bulky as possible.
248 HP EVs are chosen to reach 393 hp points in order to optimize Regenerator & switch into SR one more time.

Team(mates) support
A way to deal properly with bulky pokemons is recommended because G-Slowbro is meant to be "only" a support and is easily outsped due to its base Spe and, thus, predictable.
In return, Trick coupled with Black Sludge cripples common bulky switch-ins (like Seismitoad and Gastrodon) for its teammates while stealing useful items. Also, it absorbs Toxic Spikes upon entering on the field.

Hey, it's Galar Bro's turn this week? Then I guess it's time to bust out one of my old heat sets...
Belly Drum Trick Room GBro
:Slowbro-Galar:

Slowbro-Galar @ Black Sludge | Colbur Berry
Ability: Regenerator | Quick Draw
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Belly Drum
- Shell Side Arm
- Earthquake
- Trick Room

I've already made a post about this set in the heat thread, but for the sake of time, I'll just say this: +6 Attack Galar Bro does some hefty damage. Black Sludge is there for passive recovery, Trick Room to mitigate Galar Bro's poor speed, and STAB Shell Side Arm + Earthquake coverage hits the majority of the mons in the tier for massive damage. Additionally, Regenerator helps in case your setup backfires and Galar Bro needs to switch out and try again. On the flip side of that, Quick Draw is an option if you're confident you'll be able to set up, as the 30% chance to move first within your priority bracket can be quite useful in certain situations. Anyways, enough talking, here's some calcs for y'all:

+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 558-658 (153.2 - 180.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Shuca Berry Cobalion: 318-375 (98.4 - 116%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Metagross: 634-748 (174.1 - 205.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Shell Side Arm vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Crobat: 321-378 (85.8 - 101%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Shell Side Arm vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Flygon: 323-381 (107.3 - 126.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Steelix: 430-508 (121.4 - 143.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Shell Side Arm vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 340-402 (101.7 - 120.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Shuca Berry Slowbro-Galar: 296-349 (75.1 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Shell Side Arm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Glastrier: 429-505 (106.1 - 125%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Slowbro-Galar Shell Side Arm vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Suicune: 378-445 (93.5 - 110.1%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

Now that's a lot of damage. In the event Galar Bro sets up fully, nothing can switch in on this mon at +6. Granted, actually getting to +6 as well as setting TR up is the main problem this set faces, but if you send this out against a passive Pokemon like Milotic or non-EQ Registeel, then you can start going to town.

Edit: Some calcs and set details added

Edit 2: Here's a replay of how this set is supposed to work in an ideal setting; I'll probably add more if I find more battles that turn out how I want them to for the sake of replays.

Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Air Slash
- Giga Drain / Energy Ball
- Nature Power / Focus Blast

Viriz has the ability to sweep; though normally on the physical side. Calm Mind is the boost move of choice here, with Air Slash to cater for its would-be physical checks. Giga Drain or Energy Ball whether you want some recovery or a bit more power (or Leaf Storm if you're keen). And finally Focus Blast is the normal option here, but should you be running a terrain setter (both Weezing-G and both Indeedees are available in RU) you will have Fairy or Psychic coverage in the last slot. Life Orb because Viriz really isn't all that powerful itself, especially without a boost.

AoA LO mixed attacker

Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Giga Drain
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Air Slash

Here we have a mixed offensive Virizion with a fast spread that can use 4 attacking moves from both sides of the spectrum in order to surprise the opponent.
Giga Drain and Air Slash are the main attacking moves so the EVs are put into the SpA, whereas Close Combat and Stone Edge have already a good base power even if uninvested.
Giga Drain is chosen over Leaf Storm because the SpA drop is terrible on Virizion that already has middling offenses even when invested.

Defensive Verizon wireless
So this Virizion set is meant to act kind of like a defensive Pivot that can somewhat reliable spread Toxic thanks to its stab fighting thwarting steels
Now having physical defense investment means it will now better check Rhyperior Zydog sharpedo and other physical threats . Virizion is able to
stay healthy and consistantly check many threats throughout a game with Synthesis cause of Synthesis removing crucial coverage it isnt a good wallbreaker like this so i went all in on its defensive use. The Virizion set can live 2 superpowers where other Virizion could not making it a very reliable zydog check. This set mainly Exists to act as an effecive pivot vs zydog other grounds/waters in the tier. Outrage will 2hko but outrage is very risky and many zydog dont run it.
252 Atk Choice Band Zygarde-10% Superpower over 2 turns vs. 100 HP / 156 Def Virizion: 294-347 (84.4 - 99.7%) -- not a KO
252 Atk Choice Band Zygarde-10% Outrage vs. 100 HP / 156 Def Virizion: 264-312 (75.8 - 89.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 100 HP / 156 Def Virizion: 153-180 (43.9 - 51.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Teamates. Since this set exists to check zydog have mons that like zydog being checked like Darmanitan,Toxtrity ,steelix, registeel, Metagross Steelix and gross sound espacially good as they check togekiss for virizion. this setis of course blanked by poisons andflyers and fairys so a good steel to answer those would be needed. this set also invites in reuniclus so have an answer to that. this sets idea is to support its team by pivoting around and spreading toxic while it may not beat alot it does not need to it just needs to check them well to hold its team together defensively.

Virizion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 100 HP / 44 Atk / 156 Def / 208 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Synthesis
- Close Combat
- Toxic

Swords Dance Virizion
:ss/virizion:
Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Leaf Blade / Zen Headbutt / Megahorn
- Stone Edge / Zen Headbutt / Megahorn

Virizion, similar to Cobalion, hits pretty decently hard with the combination of Life Orb + Swords Dance despite only having 90 base attack. Close Combat is the move that Virizion will be clicking the vast majority of the time against neutral targets, as at +2 it OHKO's or 2HKO's everything in the tier that isn't resistant or immune to it. The sheer raw power of a boosted Close Combat means that Virizion doesn't really need to run Leaf Blade, as Leaf Blade does not hit anything notable that isn't already 2HKO'd by +2 Close Combat. However, that being said, Leaf Blade is still preferable as a secondary stab option because it has utility in being a 100% accurate option to hit certain Fairy and Psychic-types such as Gardevoir and Sylveon for more damage than Stone Edge can, as well as being able to KO Gastrodon, Seismitoad, and Suicune without needing a Swords Dance Boost or dropping your defensive stats. Since Virizion typically doesn't always need a secondary STAB, the last two moveslots can be used to hit two of Virizion's main checks. Zen Headbutt 2HKO's Weezing Galar, while Stone Edge will at least 2HKO defensive Togekiss while OHKO'ing offensive variants. Additionally, Stone Edge hits the occasional Marowak-Alola, which would otherwise be able to tank Virizion's other attacks and KO it with a super-effective STAB attack. Megahorn is another coverage option to OHKO Necrozma, Reuniclus, and Starmie after a Swords Dance boost. The only notable thing that really walls this set no matter what is Doublade, as it is either resistant or immune to all of Virizion's attacks. However, this can be played around with team support from offensive threats that can pressure Steel-types such as Zygarde-10% or Marowak-Alola. Here are some calcs showing what this thing can do after a Swords Dance boost:
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 364-429 (85.4 - 100.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Suicune: 263-309 (65 - 76.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 244+ Def Togekiss: 330-390 (88.2 - 104.2%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Noivern: 265-312 (85.2 - 100.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Crobat: 265-312 (70.8 - 83.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sylveon: 207-244 (52.5 - 61.9%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 224-265 (67 - 79.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 546-645 (128.1 - 151.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Suicune: 198-234 (49 - 57.9%) -- 52% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 394-464 (117.6 - 138.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Reuniclus: 458-541 (108 - 127.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
This set has the luxury of picking and choosing what Pokemon are capable of checking and countering it, and this is something that can be easily adjusted for with support from Virizion's teammates. Depending on what coverage moves Virizion has, you might want to pair it with Pokemon such as Incineroar, Zygarde-10%, or Toxtricity, who can all wear down Virizion's checks and make them easier to KO if you lack the appropriate coverage moves. Additionally, Virizion greatly appreciates Pokemon that are capable of checking Fire, Flying, and Psychic types, such as Stakataka, Gastrodon, Seismitoad, Umbreon, Milotic, Registeel, Rhyperior, or the aforementioned Incineroar. Lastly, Virizion largely benefits from having Choice Scarf users as teammates, as they can help to KO threats that Virizion would otherwise be outsped by. Darmanitan, Xurkitree, and Tyrantrum in particular stand out for their ability to either overwhelm opposing teams with raw damage output or simply wear down Virizion's checks and counters.

TL;DR: Swords Dance Virizion has the potential to be a solid offensive threat, with the ability to OHKO or 2HKO the majority of the tier provided it has the appropriate coverage moves. However, it can be held back somewhat if it is lacking coverage for particular checks, and as such, its success can be a bit matchup reliant. However, Virizion shines with its fantastic speed tier, and although it still loses to Pokemon such as Crobat and Noivern, it is more than capable of breaking through some of the tougher walls in the tier or outright sweeping a weakened team once the appropriate checks against it have been weakened.

Also, here's a sample team I threw together that uses this Virizion set: https://pokepast.es/a19de8f38f733257

Virizion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 244 HP / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Protect
- Giga Drain

Virizion is able to use its solid speed and bulk to abuse the substitute and toxic, although it is unable to touch most steel and poison types, it can easily set up a substitute against bulky waters and other mons that fear it’s normal stabs
No important calcs since it’s sub toxic protect
