Project SS UU Victim Of The Week v2- Week 53: Darmanitan (Submissions)

:Buzzwole: @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Toxic
- Roost

buzzwole counters itself, it can take any hit and toxic buzzwole back and it is a possible 5hko for both cc and stone edge which can easily be roosted off. It can even switch in on a double stone edge crit with rocks up and still roost stall buzzwole in return

252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Buzzwole: 101-120 (24.1 - 28.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Buzzwole: 90-107 (21.5 - 25.5%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Buzzwole on a critical hit: 152-179 (36.3 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

:ss/salamence:
Salamence @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 192 HP / 64 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Flamethrower
- Roost
- Toxic / Defog / Draco Meteor

The EV spread isnt especially made for Buzzwole it's just the one I used in my most recent mence squad. Even without defensive investment, Salamence can eat Life Orb Stone edge thanks to intimidate paired with good bulk and only has to fear Ice Punch or Toxic from the bulkier variants. In return it can easily OHKO back with Hurricane or any other flying type coverage you might want to run on fatter mences, and can even get a ko on a chipped/-1 spd Buzzwole. It also has access to Roost which makes it reliable in the long run.
Still nominating this as a check over a counter cause Stone Edge forces mence to roost and a extremely agressive Stone Edge > Close Combat sequence can dent Salamence pretty badly. Hurricane isnt extremely reliable either, so even if you get the gamble right you can be punished by rng, unless Buzzwole is in Flamethrower range. But other than bad odds and galaxybrain plays Salamence is a sturdy Buzzwole check.

:ss/Mew:

Mew @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Will-O-Wisp
- Spikes
- Soft-Boiled

You can switch-in once or maybe twice thanks to Mew's good bulk while you can easily cripple it thanks to Will-O-Wisp rendering it ALMOST useless thanks to a very low damage input if burned. You can also easily set up Spikes if Buzzwole is burned thanks to it doing not much to it.

252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mew: 164-194 (40.5 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb burned Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mew: 82-96 (20.2 - 23.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Mew Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 107-127 (25.5 - 30.3%) -- 8.2% chance to 3HKO after burn damage

:ss/tapu-bulu:
Tapu Bulu @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
- Horn Leech
- Dazzling Gleam
- Protect
- Synthesis

Defensive Tapu Bulu has seen some decent usage in World Cup, and the qualities are appreciated in UU as well. It is able to check threats such as Crawdaunt, Krookodile, and here Buzzwole. Tapu Bulu resists Close Combat and Earthquake, further weakened by Grassy Terrain, and Stone Edge rarely 3HKOes. Synthesis is used to have huge recovery alongside Grassy Terrain. Dazzling Gleam, even with an Impish nature, is always a 2HKO on Buzzwole. So I would nominate Defensive Tapu Bulu as a counter to Buzzwole.

0- SpA Tapu Bulu Dazzling Gleam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 224-266 (62.9 - 74.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Tapu Bulu: 116-136 (33.7 - 39.5%) -- 20.5% chance to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

:ss/Sylveon:
Sylveon @ Heavy-duty boots
Bold Nature
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
With heavy Physical Defense investment Sylveon is a counter it can live any 2 hits from Buzzwole. staying healthy with Wish it can thwart Buzzwole throughout a game.
252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sylveon: 155-182 (39.3 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Celebi @ Leftovers
Level: 100
Bold Nature
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe
- Psychic
- Recover
- Giga Drain
- Calm Mind

Physically Defensive Celebi as a counter

252+ Atk Life Orb Buzzwole Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Celebi: 127-151 (31.4 - 37.3%) -- 85.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Will make it pretty later

Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Roost

Moltres is a check to buzzwole. It doesn't like switching into edge but can come in on a CC or EQ and force it out with ease.

Now, it's time to vote! Down below are the checks and counters for this week

Voting is up. We seem to have a lot of winners lol. For the checks, congrats to laevin for winning the week with TotomonGang and Monky25 taking runner up. For the counters, HydreigonTheChild won the week with Lolito and avg tying for runner up. Congrats all of you, your submissions will be added to the Hall of Fame. Now, lets introduce this week's victim!
:ss/Thundurus:
Thundurus (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Knock Off
- Psychic
- U-turn

This week, we have Thundurus! Thundurus has been an incredibly dominant Pokemon in the tier, being able to take on top threats like keldeo and primarina while acting as a great offensive pivot. Its ability to annoy walls like Chansey and rhyperior with knock off as well as nail threats like amoonguss and nidoqueen with Psychic is greatly appreciated on many teams. How will you take this mad genie down? Submissions are due June 22 at 11:59 PM PST. This week is also a double points week, so be sure to make a submission if you want to score big!

Lycandoggy
:ss/lycanroc-dusk:
Lycanroc-Dusk @ Life Orb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Accelerock
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Stone Edge

Lycandog doesnt switch in, but accelerok just absolutely destroys thundy and guarantees a KO with minimal chip which makes it a nice offensive check.

CALCS

252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Lycanroc-Dusk Accelerock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 276-328 (92.3 - 109.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Lycanroc-Dusk Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 530-624 (177.2 - 208.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Nihilego @ Black Sludge
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Timid Nature
- Power Gem
- Sludge Wave
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock

Nihilego can easily switch-in a decent amount of times thanks to psychic not 2hkoing i think and it can easily kill it thanks to Power Gem. Cant send calcs right now since im on phone but you get it, its a check

Krookodile!

:ss/krookodile:

Krookodile @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge
- Darkest Lariat

Krookodile is able to switch into both Psychic and Thunderbolt, outpace it thanks to it's Choice Scarf and KO it with Stone Edge or Knock something off in case it decides to switch out. This makes Krookodile a pretty solid check.

252 Atk Krookodile Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 272-320 (90.9 - 107%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Guzzlord @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Dragon Tail
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Thanks to KM suddenly convincing the council that it's viable, Guzzlord is a counter to mixed Thundurus. It resists/immune to 3 of it's 4 moves, and takes minimal damage from U-turn. If at low health, it can use Rest to regain all of it's HP back, and Sleep Talk allows it to remove Thundurus's Heavy-Duty Boots or phaze is out with Dragon Tail.
4 Atk Thundurus U-turn vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Guzzlord: 132-156 (22.4 - 26.5%) -- 18.4% chance to 4HKO

0 Atk Guzzlord Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 142-168 (47.4 - 56.1%) -- 80.9% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Guzzlord Dragon Tail vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 88-105 (29.4 - 35.1%) -- 13% chance to 3HKO

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Heat Crash

Rhyperior is a pretty solid counter to Thundurus. Since this Thundurus set doesn't run Focus Blast, it's forced to either cause chip with Psychic, knock off its Leftovers or pivot out with U-turn. If it stays in, it gets blown back by Stone Edge, while pivoting out give Rhyperior a free opportunity to set up Stealth Rocks.

252 SpA Thundurus Psychic vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Rhyperior: 110-130 (25.3 - 29.9%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
16+ Atk Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 432-510 (144.4 - 170.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
