Hello and welcome to Victim Of The Week Version 2.0, back and better than ever! The UU metagame is full of a vast variety of both offensive and defensive threats alike, and this thread is dedicated to finding answers to threatening Pokémon each week. Like the RU edition, I have turned this into a competition where I give points to the winners of the checks and counters posted (2 points for first, 1 point for second). At the end of 12 weeks, I will tally up the points and declare a winner for the cycle. There will be occasions where more points are offered, so keep up with this project to see what weeks those might be.
Rules
  • Before submitting anything, you will have to keep in mind what a check and what a counter is by its definition. To quote from Smogon Issue 32, "Pokémon A checks Pokémon B if, when Pokémon A is given a free switch into Pokémon B, Pokémon A can win every time, even under the worst case scenario, without factoring in hax. Pokémon A counters Pokémon B if Pokémon A can manually switch into Pokémon B and still win every time, even under the worst case scenario, without factoring in hax." In other words, in terms of counters, the Pokémon should be able to consistently switch in throughout a course of a game and limit the victim, often times having reliable recovery or just walling it to death. If I deem your submission to not be a counter, then I will move it over to checks and vice versa.
  • Please attempt to only post Pokémon that are viable in the UnderUsed metagame. You are able to use the viability rankings as a tool to see what's usable in the metagame. I will attempt to make exceptions, but I need to see multiple ladder replays with a minimum of 1400 elo mark showing it off.
  • Calcs are NOT required but generally are nice to put.
  • I encourage innovation but if a set is too niche and only deals with that Pokémon, then I will sadly have to disqualify it.
  • Please provide at least a few lines of description explain your check or counter and how it functions as so. Maybe even talk about other perks it has in the metagame to make it more appealing to look for.
  • I will allow reservation of Pokémon in this thread. However, please write up your post within 24 hours of the reservation. I will tag you giving you one last chance. Just take accountability and do it or delete it instead of cluttering the thread with unfulfilled reservations.
  • Different sets of the same Pokémon can be nominated. For example, person A can nominate special attacker Salamence as a check to something, while person B can nominate Defensive Salamence as a counter to the same thing in the same week. However, the sets must be different enough to work, and I will be the judge of that.
  • You are NOT allowed to vote for your own submission when the voting phase begins for each victim.
  • During voting phase you must vote for 2 checks and 2 counters. If there are 2 or less checks/counters submitted for the week, than those who submitted automatically get a point.
  • Please be kind and respectful to others in this thread, lets act like adults.
  • Most importantly, Have Fun!

With that, lets get to our first victim!
:ss/Terrakion:
Terrakion @ Life Orb
Jolly Nature
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Megahorn

Terrakion is an absolutely devastating offensive powerhouse in the UU metagame. With powerful STAB moves in Stone Edge and Close Combat coupled with a high speed tier outspeeding the likes of Salamence, Victini, Nihilego, and Thundurus-T, it is no secret that any functional team should have an answer to Terrakion. How will you answer this behemoth? Submissions are allowed until Tuesday, February 9th at 11:59 pm GMT-8.

Nominating Palossand as a COUNTER to Terrakion.

1612506885687.png

Palossand @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Water Compaction
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Shore Up
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock

So this set just beats that Terrakion every time since there's no EQ. You switch in and Terrak either uses Stone Edge for 20% damage, or it uses SD. Then on the next turn you either Earth Power it for 70% damage while you take 20% more, or 40% for the first time, or use Toxic to punish the switch or Toxic Terrakion if it stayed in for some crazy reason. The absolute worst case scenario is Terrak uses SD on the switch, then you use Toxic and it uses SD again somehow, and then it starts using Stone Edge but you just Shore Up and it kills itself with LO + Tox damage.

252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Palossand: 70-84 (18.7 - 22.4%) -- possible 5HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Palossand: 143-168 (38.2 - 44.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+4 252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Palossand: 214-252 (57.2 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Palossand Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Terrakion: 212-252 (65.6 - 78%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

For this week, I'm nominating Choice-Banded Zygarde-10% as a check to Terrakion.

:ss/Zygarde-10%:

Zygarde-10% @ Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Extreme Speed
- Toxic
- Glare

Not much to say here. Zygarde-10% is quite fragile, so some sort of volt-turn or double switch is needed to bring it in. However, it can take a single Stone Edge from Terrakion if need be. Once it's in, its Thousand Arrows can be used to threaten an OHKO, or if a switch is predicted, either Glare or Toxic can be used; Glare to slow down immediate threats like Scarf Krookodile or Scarf Zarude, and Toxic to wear down walls like Tangrowth or defensive Salamence and deny Tapu Bulu its Grassy Terrain recovery.

Overall, Zygarde-10% can check Terrakion well with its Thousand Arrows, as well as afflict any would-be switch-ins with a nasty status effect.

Relevant Calcs:
252 Atk Choice Band Zygarde-10% Thousand Arrows vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 402-474 (124.4 - 146.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zygarde-10%: 140-165 (56.2 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zygarde-10%: 225-265 (90.3 - 106.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
^Definitely not a good move to switch into, but if worst comes to worst, it's an available option.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Liquidation
- Knock Off / Ice Punch

I'm nominating Azumarill as a check to Terrakion. It can always pressure Terrakion with Aqua Jet, and threatens to OHKO it after some chip. Terrakion also can't switch in on any of Azumarill's moves, as Knock Off will put it in range of Aqua Jet and Ice Punch is a 2HKO. Azumarill has enough bulk to switch in on Stone Edge once and can switch on Close Combat and Megahorn more than once. Most importantly, Azumarill can easily revenge kill Terrakion, but can also RK other threats like Galarian Moltres, Zeraora, Nihilego, Victini, and many more, so it is definitely a very good pick.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 260-308 (80.4 - 95.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 105-124 (32.5 - 38.3%) -- 98% chance to 3HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 163-192 (50.4 - 59.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 255-302 (74.7 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 152-179 (44.5 - 52.4%) -- 23% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 101-120 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- 18.6% chance to 3HKO

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 203-239 (59.5 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Every one of Tapu Bulu's viable sets can act as a check to this Terrakion, but Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu can even act as a hard check, so I will be nominating it.

:ss/Tapu Bulu:
Tapu Bulu @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge

Scarf Bulu can switch in on any of Life Orb Terrakion's attacks (barring a Stone Edge crit) and KO it with either Grass STAB, possibly even healing a good chunk (up to 57.6%) with Horn Leech in the process. Scarf Bulu also aids in revenging many other scary attackers in the tier as well as setting up recovery for its teammates while not sacrificing much offensive power, making it a very viable addition to teams.

Calcs:
252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 187-222 (66.5 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion in Grassy Terrain: 612-722 (189.4 - 223.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion in Grassy Terrain: 386-456 (119.5 - 141.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I'm gonna be in this too! Though I will wait a few hours after the post to give time for people to get their reservations in since it wouldn't be fair for me to insta pick an answer. Anyway, here's my pick for a counter to Terrakion
:ss/Doublade:
Doublade @ Eviolite
Adamant Nature
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Shadow Claw
- Shadow Sneak

It seems that this was forgotten about. Courtesy of doublade's typing and high physicals bulk, it can shrug hits off like no other. While it is true that doublade is one of the lesser viable Pokemon in UU (around a B- level imo) it still works as one of the extremely few counters to this common Terrakion set and force it out.
252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 49-58 (15.2 - 18%) -- possible 6HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 19-23 (5.9 - 7.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252+ Atk Doublade Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 278-330 (86 - 102.1%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Remember to all those who have so far reserved a mon to complete their reservations in 24 hours of making the post, I will tag you when the time is close. Turns out I can't delete these posts, just be helpful and fulfill your reservations or delete the post if you can't.

It's time to vote! Down below are the checks and counters submitted this week. Since only 2 counters were submitted, this means that both BigFatMantis and I get an automatic point due to no competition, though only 1 since there cannot be a first nor second place of we have to vote for 2. Anyway, vote for 2 of the below checks- remember you cannot vote for yourself. Voting ends Thursday, February 10 at 11:59 pm gmt-8. Also, I just want to say thanks for a successful week so far, and hopefully as the weeks go on there will be more submissions.

Reminder, only vote for 2 checks- remember you CANNOT vote for yourself. This is because there were only 2 counters submitted and each week I want to have votes for the top 2, not just 1.
My votes for checks are: Scizor and Tapu Bulu

Congratulations to Fusion Flare and Flare219 for taking first and second place respectively this week with their submissions. They will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly. For this week, the Pokémon I'd like for you to find a check or counter is down below.
:ss/Victini:
Victini @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Timid Nature
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Blue Flare
- Psychic
- Energy Ball
- U-turn

Known as the "symbol of Victory", it is no wonder that Victini is an absolute force to be reckoned with in the UU metagame. With a large movepool and diversity of sets such as Choice Band, Choice Scarf, physical, and special boots, Victini has cemented itself as a metagame top threat, with some players even wanting it to be suspected judging from the community survey. The set you will be finding answers to is the special boots set, the most common and arguably best set. How will you answer this threat?
Submissions are due Tuesday, February 16th at 11:59 GMT-8.

First time ever participating in a smogon forum(and possibly will be my only lol). Nominating Kyurem as a check.
:sm/kyurem:

Kyurem @ Leftovers
Timid Nature
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 164 HP / 92 SpA / 252 Spe
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Substitute
- Roost

SubRoost Kyurem with the above evs ensure kyurem never gets 2HKO'ed by blue flare while kyurem can always roost up and 2HKO victini back with earth power. This means victini have to play alot more carefully. Even with rocks up, all of victini's moves aside from blue flare cannot 2HKO kyurem on the switch and victini also wants to conserve its measly 8 blue flare PPs now that Pressure is in the equation.(As a side note, if kyurem manages to get a sub up against victini, tini will be put in a rough spot as now pivoting out means kyurem's sub stays up, allowing for kyurem to keep being annoying).

Edit: This is pretty embarrassing I only just realized my kyurem had 20 excess HP evs. It doesnt actually change any calcs but its fixed now.

Starmie @ Life Orb
Timid Nature
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock

- Ice Beam

Legend Starmie. Can live energy ball even after Life Orb recoil if it misses hydro, though it dies if misses and takes chip from rocks. Still, not factoring hax (missing) starmie is a offensive check to Victini.
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 390-460 (114.3 - 134.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Victini Energy Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Starmie: 188-222 (72 - 85%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Remember that all submissions are due Tuesday, February 16th. If you anyone who is interested in this type of project, share this with them! Lets get as many submissions as possible. Hope we can get more as the days go on leading up to the submission deadline.

Chansey as a Counter

:ss/Chansey:
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic
- Teleport

Victini doesn't do anything to Chansey. Blue Flare does 19% damage max. Chansey can toxic it, toxic a switch in, use Seismic Toss, and recover lost HP with Softboiled. Victini has to switch out or U-Turn out against it - it has no choice.

Umbreon as a Counter.

:ss/Umbreon:
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Bold Nature
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
- Foul Play
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic

Umbreon takes at max 35% from Blue Flare. It threatens heavy damage on Victini with Foul Play and is even able to heal itself against it with Wish + Protect. Umbreon can then hit the switch-in with Foul Play, Toxic it, or pass a Wish to a teammate to heal it up.

it doesn't get 2hko'd by any of this victini's set move and can heal its hp back with slack off or regen + teleport
