[OVERVIEW]

Normal
========

* staraptor is extremely important for normal-type teams, as it gives the type some sort of counterplay to factors like toxic spikes and fighting-types that normal would otherwise fold to
* it has the ability to check massive threats like bisharp and breloom that have the potential to run through entire normal teams
* provides good team support with defog and a slow u-turn. it also provides a switch in to fighting-types like heracross for its defensive partners, porygon2 and chansey
* however, staraptor is very prone to being worn down by its crippling weakness to stealth rock and every type of status.
* it also struggles against faster taunt users like mew and gliscor that prevent it from doing anything worthwhile

Moves
========

* brave bird is staraptor’s main STAB attack and also lets it check pokemon like breloom
* roost is staraptor’s main form of recovery that allows it to consistently check attackers like heracross throughout games
* defog is fantastic support that lets staraptor clear annoying hazards like toxic spikes and stealth rock
* uturn allows staraptor to support wallbreaking teammates like choice band diggersby

Set Details
========

* leftovers give staraptor a form of recovery and somewhat helps mitigate that stealth rock weakness
* intimidate allows staraptor to more easily check a plethora of physical attackers
* the provided evs + nature maximize staraptor’s bulk while giving it enough speed to outpace adamant Breloom so that staraptor can OHKO it with Brave Bird before being put to sleep by Spore

Usage Tips
========

* make full use of staraptor’s slow u-turn by using it against switch ins like zapdos and ferrothorn to pivot out to a scary wallbreaker like choice specs meloetta
* roost freely so that staraptor can more consistently check physical attackers like choice scarf tapu bulu and heracross
* avoid any type of status, since they are all detrimental. toxic poison wears down toxapex extremely quickly and prevents it from fulfilling any of its main roles, and burn and paralysis prevent it from checking big threats like bisharp
* preserve staraptor when your opponent is packing a big threat like breloom, since you’ll need staraptor later on to check it

Team Options
========

* chansey helps staraptor by beating some stealth rock users like nidoking and mega diancie that beat staraptor. it can also provide its own stealth rock and toxic support
* download variants of porygon2 help staraptor against hazard setters like ferrothorn. porygon2 also appreciates staraptor’s ability to eliminate physical attackers like bisharp that set up on it freely.
* porygonz appreciates staraptor’s ability to clear toxic spikes so it can more easily sweep
* mega lopunny breaks big stops to staraptor like mega sableye and tyranitar. it also appreciates staraptor’s ability to bring it in freely via slow u-turn
* diggersby appreciates slow u-turn support from staraptor so it can more freely wallbreak teams. it can also revenge kill set up sweepers like azumarill that staraptor can’t handle
* ditto revenge kills set up sweepers like porygonz and azumarill that take advantage of staraptor.

Other Options
=============

Normal
--------

* toxic lets staraptor cripple annoying defensive pokemon like subtoxic zapdos and suicune on the switch in
* close combat allows staraptor to check bisharp
* rocky helmet can be used but only makes staraptor’s weakness to weak attacks and stealth rock even worse
* whirlwind gives normal-type teams lacking download porygon2 some sort of way to force out threatening pokemon like swords dance mega scizor.

Checks and Counters
===================

Normal
--------

**residual damage**: every type of status heavily cripples staraptor. other residual damage like stealth rock and weak neutral attacks from pokemon like celesteela and toxapex wear through staraptor quickly as well
**super effective attacks**: attacks from ice-, electric-, and rock-types like kyurem-black, tapu koko, and mega diancie KO staraptor
**wallbreakers**: wallbreakers like choice specs tapu koko and choice band diggersby destroy staraptor
**walls**: pokemon like mega slowbro, skarmory, toxapex, celesteela, tyranitar, and clefable all wall staraptor
