Stealth Rock Discussion

Great move. I wanted to see which pokemon you guys think are the best pokemon for handling this move, how useful it is, and if this move should be on every team.

Skarm/swampert/forretress are generally the best stealth rock users, and it doesn't have to be on every team, but it can help a lot.

Skarm, Swampert, and I believe Bronzong or Gliscor are all fairly reliable Stealth Rock users.

The moves is either extremely good or not that useful, compared to spikes, depending on the opponent's team - but with the advent of so many pokemon that have Levitate, and the fact that it hits Salamence and Gyarados (as well as Infernape) hard, there's a good chance it's better than Spikes in this gen, due to it only taking a turn to set up at max power.

Still, it suffers in that it only does 6.25% to Steel-types, and the fact that Ground types, fairly common this gen as well, also resist it.

However, there is the fact that Rapid Spin, as far as I've seen, is uncommon. If you're worried about the Fliers in this generation, notably, as said, Gyara and Salamence, I'd definitely put someone with it on the team.

My thoughts.

It isn't needed on every team. However, it can be used to effectively counter Gyarados, Salamence, Togekiss, and other stuff that don't like the 25% percent damage done

Swampert / Skarmory / Bronzong / Gliscor can utilize it effectively. Blissey has better things to do than SR.

Stuff that can be used to counter this pesky move are Donphan / Claydol / Hitmontop, who all are 2x resistant to the move and can Rapid Spin away. However, most SR teams tend to carry a ghost to counter RS, so that has to be removed first. Starmie doesn't work as well, the problem is the turn you Rapid Spin, Weavile will come in and Pursuit / Night Slash you easily

It isn't required on every team, though it can be used to whittle their HP so sweepers have less trouble killing

I think it's a great move, almost all team should have at least one Stealth Rocker though IMO I think it's truly shine is Phazing,TSS, and any sort of team that grealty make use of passive damage.

The way it deal damage is quite intersting in my eyes.

It's the reason why I don't use rapid spin anymore and opt for Wish support more often. Keeping it off the field isn't easy so I might as well try to just make it hurt less.

That would be funny if it were Stealth Fire. Anything trying to RS it would automatically get a burn :P

I use it on my OU team and my UU team

Ok, everyone agrees it's a good move. Now I ask if any of you use it on your teams, and what pokemon uses it.

I've always liked .....
Donphan (SR Set Up AND Garchomp Counter.. Ish.. he can also rapid spin the opponent's SR)
Gliscor (SR Set Up AND Heracross/TTar Counter)
Swampert (SR Set Up AND Great Typing.. Can overall do a lot)
Bronzong (SR Set Up AND Hypnosis.. as well as Reflect/Light Screen)

My favorite...
Forretress (Physical Wall, SR Set Up, If you want.. spikes; or hell, reflect, light screen.... when you're all done? blow the hell up)

I'm sure there are plenty of others.. these are actually just my favorites to use when Stealth Rocking.

(Blissey can do it too... if you want a Special Wall to use it, though Blissey has many other useful moves that she can learn instead)

I have to agree(biasedly) with forretress, i love how it looks and it can not only set up, but blow their stealth rock away so it fills the hole of rapid spinner and SR user, then as said...BOOM!

Actually.. I've had a gyarados switch onto my forretress (he had already set up stealth rock though.. and then he blew the hell out of gyarados)

:-D

Actually.. what is Gyarados going to do that hurts forretress anyways... -.-... he'll taunt.. ok.. you blow up, he's dead, lol

Do remember also, that Forretress has HUGE defence.
You can also blow up on Garchomp (Assuming it doesn't have fire fang)

So honestly.... yea :-x (who packs flamethrower besides for specs mence anymore anyways, who risks a BANG if he switches in, lol)

I hate Stealth Rock. Rips apart my team and really, there's like what, 3 useable Rapid Spinners? Donphan wouldn't even see any play if it weren't for SR/RS. I really wish they'd have made Defog get rid of it or something.

Anyway, Stealth Rock is worst for me when it comes from something unexpected. Like Blissey or Celebi... there's so many of them that can learn it.

Yeah, I hate Stealth Rock too. If it was a level-up move for some fairly quirky Pokemon, and not a TM that every Pokemon and his dog can use, it would be an interesting strategic addition. But as it is, it seems to make a whole load of flying Pokemon have "SR weak" screamed at them in RMT, and just makes annoying stally Pokemon more annoying.

The real reason I don't like it, though, is because I'm rubbish and it always hurts me.

When I hear the move "Stealth Rock" the first pokemon to come to mind is Steelix. If only got Rapid Spin as well, it would probably be a great replacement for Donphan in standard.

Empoleon makes pretty good use of it as well, but Steelix is my favourite user of this move.

I still don't understand how non-psychic pokemon can make rocks float in the air... Moves like explosion, whirlwind, etc. should be able to clear the floating rocks away.

seriously, and how the hell does spinning on the ground clear it away, they are freakin floating spinning on the ground wont help

Steelix, Donphan, and Fortress come to mine.
Steelix and Fortress use it best because they ran rapid spin, and because fire is hurt by rock, and steelix and fortress's big issue is steel.
Donphan works well with it, but it is not as strategically effective.

Jirachi should also get a mention, as it resists a lot of types, making it easy to switch in, and it has the defenses to pull it off.

Well, there ARE better options for Jirachi of course, but there's some fun Doom Desire sets floating around that make use of SR.
