Bruno (Steelix (M))
Nature: Brave (+Atk, -Spe)

Type:

- Steel: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.

- Ground: Ground STAB; immune to Sandstorm. Ignores Arena restrictions on Dig and Seismic Attacks for Arenas in which any land mass exists, Evasive Digging reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

Abilities:

- Rock Head (Passive): This Pokemon's hard body prevents it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash.

- Sturdy (Passive): This Pokemon's body is solidly constructed, reducing the Base Attack Power from an opponents incoming attacks by one (1). The effect is amplified on OHKO Moves, which are reduced by ten (10) Base Attack Power.

- Sheer Force (Toggle) (UNLOCKED): No default effect. When toggled, this Pokemon can energize all its attacks with a secondary effect (These are damaging moves that either lower the target's stats, raise the user's stats, or inflict a status condition on the target). The Base Attack Power of every move with a secondary effect increases by two (2), but they will never have their usual secondary effect.

Bastion (Lucario (M))

- Steel: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.

Abilities:

- Steafast (Passive): If this Pokemon is flinched, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases Speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This Speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.

- Psychic: Psychic STAB; can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:

Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit.

- Heatproof (Passive): This Pokemon's mirror-like alloyed skin protects it from Fire-type attacks, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire-typed attacks to the next level of resistance (2x weak becomes neutral, neutral becomes resistance, etc.) The damage inflicted by burns is also cut in half.

- Heavy Metal (Passive) (UNLOCKED): The Pokemon's body structure is immensely dense, doubling its actual weight.

Randy (Metagross (-)) He's male, don't let GF confuse you.
Nature: Quiet (+SpA, -Spe)

Type:

- Steel: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.
- Psyquic:Psychic STAB; can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

Abilities:

- Clear Body (Passive): This Pokémon's body structure makes it immune to stat-lowering moves used by opponents. (e.g. Intimidate, Growl, Screech etc.)

- Light Metal (Passive, Unlocked): The Pokémon's body is made of a lightweight but extremely strong alloy. It weighs half as much as other members of the species, but is equally sturdy. The Pokémon executes weak attacks much more effectively, adding +1 priority to all their attacks with 6 or less Base Attack Power (after other ability adjustments). Priority is applied to the summed Base Attack Power of a multi-hit move (e.g. Double Kick has priority at 6 BAP, Skill Link Bullet Seed doesn't at 15 BAP.)

Abilities:

- Clear Body (Passive): This Pokémon's body structure makes it immune to stat-lowering moves used by opponents. (e.g. Intimidate, Growl, Screech etc.)

About: One of tavok's starting Pokémon, along with Gambo. Being quite weak when he was a Beldum, Randy felt like he held Gambo back, putting too much pressure on his partner since he couldn't do much himself. This feeling is what finally impulsed him to evolve into a Metang, trying to be stronger, but not much changed, as Gambo was still the powerhouse. He even fell even more behind when Gambo also evolved, being surpassed in literally every aspect.
Now, however, after lots of training and finally feeling the support of his friends, Randy managed to become a Metagross, now being as powerful as he had ever wanted.
Randy is quite energetic and analytic, despite what one would think, prefering to ready himself properly before assaulting his opponents with his powerful moves.
While not as experienced as Gambo, Randy is still one of tavok's most trusted Pokémon, and one to watch for.
Introductions:
Welcome one and all to a qualifying match for the future Steel Type Gym Leader position.
As one would expect from type specialists there is a great deal of overlap between the pokemon on both sides of the field, however there are a few key differences.
On Mulan's side we see he has brought the tried and true Steelix, Lucario, Kitsunoh, and Magnezone. Uniquely he has brought Empoleon and Aegislash. Empoleon's water typing makes it quite effective against many steel types (especially the Steelix) but also makes it very susceptible to the enemy Magnezone. Aegislash on the other hand doubles up on the ghost typing with Kitsunoh. This will make it quite effective vs Lucario as well as Tavok's Psychic selections.
Speaking of which, Tavok also has the ever faithful Steelix, Lucario, Kitsunoh, and Magnezone. His special selections however are a duo of powerful Psychic Steels, Metagross and Bronzong. While the Psychic typing will see both better off vs Mulan's Lucario it won't be as large a boon vs the rest of his team. Instead both will need to rely on their exceptional stats and abilities to see them through.
And now, let the match begin!

He had waited this day for a long time. Training his Pokémon, and himself, to be ready for this moment. The day of the Steel Gym Qualifiers. The young trainer, with aspirations of greatness, had heard that the former Gym Leader had retired, opening the position for the one that demostrated the best skills with the resilient type.
And now he's here. He's nervous, yes, but not nearly enough for him to lose focus. He is here to win.
Tavok4.png

"Wow, such tension. I just hope I don't pass out."

143.png

"Don't worry pal. You are ready, as all are the other guys. Just give it your best and you'll win, trust me."

Tavok4.png

"Ok, I'll try. No, I'll give my best. Here comes the send out!"

*Poké Ball flies towards the arena. A Kitsunoh comes out.*

Tavok4.png

"A Kitsunoh? Alright. You bring the cunning, I'll bring the force! Go, Bruno!"

208.png

"Jajaja, Imma wreck this little guy."

Tavok4.png

"I hope we can have a nice, fun fight. Good luck, Mulan!"

"Yeah, you're gonna need it."

Bruno the Steelix @ Life Orb.
Sheer Force [ON].

Earth Power - Nature Power - Crunch
- IF Phantom Force AND not in a combo THEN Dig the first instance, Stealth Rock the second and Dig the third, pushing actions back.
- IF Metal Burst THEN Roar the first instance, Stealth Rock the second and Chill the third, pushing actions back.

Yeah, but annoying trick room and dumb things so I didn't want to risk it. I thought it was better to sub for that. But then super choke on Nature Power :/

Round 1: Let the games begin!
The round opens with Mulan sending out his sneaky Kitsunoh, Masuku, and Tavok countering with his Steelix, Bruno. At first glance it seems Tavok has the favorable match up.

Masuku wastes no time in blunting the Steelix's attacks. She rushes in and knocks off the Steelix's life orb before it can make use of the item. Bruno responds with an impressive display of power, causing the ground to strike up from below the agile ghost. Masuku again works to weaken her foe, this time burning the behemoth with phantom flames. As these flames lick up and down the Steelix's body something odd happens. Bruno calls forth the power of the stadium itself but this power passes right through the Kitsunoh's ethereal body. There must have been some miscommunication there but Masuku isn't going to let the Steelix have time to sort it out. The Kitsunoh rushes in and delivers a powerful kick to the Steelix's tail. Frustrated Bruno responds by snapping at the feline who only just manages to wiggle free from its jaws.

An interesting round. The Kitsunoh has done what it can to weaken its powerful opponent while the Steelix has done respectable damage despite its unfortunate miss in the middle. It's still early though, lets see what the trainers do next.

My apologies, I knew something was missing when I set these up, but couldn't pinpoint it.

We'll play with 2 substitutions.

Revenge - Low Kick - Revenge
If Steelix uses Bide, replace the following actions with Substitute (15 HP) - Yawn - Low Kick.
If Steelix uses Torment, use Taunt that action, Low Kick the next, and Revenge the one after.

*Opens eyes. Takes a look around.*
"... Huh. Expected way worse. This is more than salvageable. And you staying in just makes it easier. Bruno, rest up and then continue wreckage."

"I can wreck you in my sleep."

Rest - Sleep Talk (Earthquake / Bulldoze / Dig / Taunt) - Sleep Talk (Earthquake / Bulldoze / Taunt / Dig)
- IF Sleep Talk calls Taunt A2 THEN replace it with Crunch in Sleep Talk A3.
- IF you are awake when you would move THEN Taunt the first time, Earthquake the second and Bulldoze the third, pushing actions back.

Round 2: The Steel Wall
When we last left off Masuku had weakened Bruno in a number of ways while Bruno's attacks had been a bit hit or miss, though effective all the same. This round did not play out quite so well for the ghost fox...

We start off with the giant steel snake going to sleep. Masuku is so nonplussed by this that it could barely muster the will to give Bruno more than a tap on the snout. Trying again the Kitsunoh kicks the Steelix solidly. This seemed to get a response from the still slumbering Steelix and it proceeds to tunnel about the arena, brutally striking the Kitsunoh repeatedly. Finally enraged enough to properly lash out at the Steelix, the Kitsunoh again strikes it solidly. When the dust clears we find that, while the Kitsunoh is badly injured, it's opponent looks healthier than it had when the round started (if a bit more tired).

Masuku is clearly trying its best but Bruno seems just too sturdy for the smaller steel type to seriously injure. The same could not be said for Bruno's strikes on his opponent and we are left with an early lead in Tavok's favor.

Round 3: The Writing On The Wall
Last round Masuku throw its best at the steelix only for its best to bounce right off. With few options left the Kitsunoh could see the end coming.

Masuku started off with a little psychological warfare, strutting around the Steelix with mocking hisses. Seeing as Bruno is still asleep he remains entirely uneffected by the display. Moments later he shakes himself awake and in doing so shook the earth below, kicking up swirling shards of rock and sand. Knowing it would take no more attacks from the Steelix, Masuku linked its life energy with Bruno, sharing with it all of its pain. Bruno could feel its well being fading and was relieved when the connection ended. Looking down it could see the Kitsunoh crumpled to the floor exhausted.

The first KO of the match has been recorded. Mulan's Kitsunoh is down and Tavok's Steelix still looks ready for more. How will Mulan counter this giant looming over him?

Round 4: Going out with a bang.
With Masuku down, Mulan was forced to send out his next pokemon. He chooses Penguin the Empoleon. Surely a more favorable match up for him but is it too little too late? And what is Tavok planning on his side of the field?

As Penguin enters the field, he unleashes a a powerful blast of water. That must have hurt the mighty snake yet he calmly ignores the attack, even curling his tail in a gesture asking for more. Angered the Empoleon calls forth a wave of water to rush over the arena and crash into his foe. As the waves subside a deep rumbling could be heard growing louder and louder. Huge chunks of the area floor broke apart and shifted with the seismic activity and Penguin was quickly knocked off balance. Before it could steady itself a jagged crack formed below it and the Empoleon fell, brutally crashing against ragged projections in the rock. With a satisfied growl the Steelix decided it was time for one more nap and collapsed to the arena floor.

Although Penguin did a great deal of damage, it ended up being all for naught. The Steelix KO'd itself and in doing so caused Penguin a great deal of annoyance and pain. Whats more Tavok is about to send out a fresh pokemon. Troubling...

Round 5: Kung Fu Fighting
Mulan is attempting to close the gap but with Bastion the Lucario coming in to face the already injured Penguin it seemed like a steep hill to climb.

The round begins with bone crunching force as the Lucario leaps down onto it's foe with a savage kick. Penguin tries to counter with an earthquake of his own but it's clear that the two are not trading hits evenly. The problem gets only worse when Bastion deals another powerful blow and the Empoleon could feel some of its energy being drain away. Again the earth shook but Penguin knew it would not take another it. It shot out a powerful steam of water just as a shockwave of force hit it. Mulan's second pokemon was down.

Mulan is trying to get into this but Tavok has had the life lead, the favorable match ups, and still has his last pokemon open to counter Mulan's last pick. Things seems to be grim for Mulan, can he make a comeback?
