Moves
========
Substitute allows Kangaskhan to avoid status moves such as Quagsire's Toxic and rack up damage with Toxic more easily. Toxic cripples switch-ins such as Regirock, Quagsire, and Tangela and allows Kangaskhan to get past them. Lastly, Power-Up Punch raises Kangaskhan's Attack stat by one stage every time it's used, increasing its offensive presence and allowing it to exploit its checks such as Mudsdale more easily. Alongside Toxic, this allows Kangaskhan to be a threat to bulkier teams.
Set Details
========
Leftovers gives Kangaskhan passive recovery and allows it to partially negate the damage taken by making a Substitute. An Impish nature combined with the EV investment in Defense prevents Quagsire from breaking Kangaskhan's Substitute with Earthquake, while the EV investment in Special Defense is used so Tangela can never break Kangaskhan's Substitute with Giga Drain.
Usage Tips
========
Early- and mid-game, Kangaskhan should aim to cripple its checks like Mudsdale and Regirock and set up a Substitute to rack up damage with Toxic. Due to its decently high bulk, it can be used as a check to foes such as non-Flyinium Z Oricorio-E and Stealth Rock Mesprit if healthy. It can come in on passive Pokemon that can't break its Substitute like Jellicent and Articuno. However, it has to be wary of Will-O-Wisp and Toxic, which greatly hinder its longevity. Furthermore, Kangaskhan should only set up when its checks, such as Regirock and Mudsdale, are weakened. However, in Quagsire's case, Kangaskhan should pressure it with Toxic and attacks until it's forced to switch out, as Unaware allows Quagsire to ignore the Attack boost provided by Power-Up Punch. Finally, due to Kangaskhan's lack of reliable recovery, it shouldn't be switched in repeatedly.
Team Options
========
Due to Kangaskhan's weakness to Fighting-types such as Gurdurr and Primeape, checks to them like Oricorio-E are greatly appreciated. Qwilfish and Mesprit are good options, as they can also help Kangaskhan weaken its checks faster thanks to entry hazards. The latter can also fully heal Kangaskhan with Healing Wish and bring it in safely with U-turn. Other good partners are the ones that appreciate the likes of Quagsire, Regirock, and Tangela weakened or outright taken out such as Lycanroc, Dodrio, and Gurdurr. Lastly, Kangaskhan's lack of reliable recovery means that it can easily be chipped away with entry hazards and status conditions. Entry hazard removers such as Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash are especially good partners, as the former can remove Toxic Spikes by coming on the field, while the latter is immune to Toxic Spikes.
