Suicune [QC: 1/2]

[Overview]

Thanks to its impressive bulk, good defensive typing and Pressure, Suicune can PP stall many Pokemon in Ubers, such as Necrozma-DM, Yveltal, Eternatus lacking Toxic, Ho-oh, Blissey, Tyranitar and Calm Mind Kyogre. Suicune is adept at spreading burns. Along with Calm Mind and Substitute, this leaves few Pokemon that can offensively threaten it without being stalled out. Furthermore, Suicune is very useful against passive teams, wearing down the PP of Water-type resists that would stop other Water-types such as Kyogre. On the other hand, it faces heavy competition from Kyogre, which outclasses it as a attacker thanks to its much higher Special Attack and stronger moves. Additionally, Suicune has no reliable recovery, leaving it easily worn down by entry hazards and other chip damage. This also means it is extremely reliant on Leftovers, leaving it weak to Knock Off. Finally, without Rest, Suicune is very susceptible to status conditions.

[SET COMMENTS]

Calm Mind allows Suicune to prevent Pokemon such as Eternatus and Calm Mind Kyogre from breaking its Substitute while allowing it to threaten walls such as Necrozma-DM if it stays in long enough. Scald discourages physical attackers such as Marshadow and Groudon from switching in or setting up while weakening Pokemon such as Ferrothorn so that they cannot break Suicune's Substitute. Burns are also useful to chip down walls such as Eternatus over time. Substitute lets Suicune block status moves from slower Pokemon such as defensive Necrozma-DM and Blissey. Creating Substitutes against walls that cannot break them allow Suicune to PP stall more effectively. Protect is useful in tandem with Pressure to safely waste the foe's PP. It can also be used to scout choice-locked Pokemon such as Calyrex-S, Kyogre and Marshadow. Be careful, however, of allowing in threats such as Zekrom for free. Rest can be used to shrug off status such as from Eternatus, stay healthy throughout a game to sponge attacks such as from Galarian Darmanitan and Excadrill as well as not waste PP for two turns. The sleep turns are risky, however, and can be abused to bring in a strong attacker. Leftovers are used to reliably recover HP with Protect and Substitute. 36 Defense with a Bold nature makes 108 Attack Groudon able to only 6HKO Suicune with Precipice Blades when burned and 5HKO with Stone Edge when not, allowing you to keep up Substitute against it. 44 Special Defense allows your Substitute to survive a Dynamax Cannon from 0 Special Attack Eternatus after a Calm Mind. This can be dropped for more Defense if not running Substitute. 176 Speed is used to outspeed everything up to Adamant Dracovish.

Pokemon that can take strong physical hits for Suicune such as Xerneas and Zygarde-C are appreciated. Electric-type resists such as Groudon and Ferrothorn help cover Suicune's most dangerous weakness. A cleric such as Blissey or Calyrex-S can aid Suicune with its weakness to status and are also useful to end Sleep on Rest variants. Hazard removers such as Yveltal and Ho-oh are necessary as Suicune is very easily worn down by entry hazards. Toxic Spikes Eternatus can help Suicune to wear down susceptible Pokemon with Substitute and Protect. Offensive teammates such as Marshadow, Calyrex-S and Xerneas appreciate Suicune's ability to stall out walls. Suicune is especially useful on more defensive teams to win the PP war against opposing walls.

Other Options
====

Sleep Talk can be used instead of Protect alongside Rest but leaves Suicune much worse at PP stalling.

Checks and Counters
====

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Pokemon such as Marshadow, Zekrom and Groudon can deal heavy damage to Suicune that it struggles to heal off, though they must be wary of burns.

**Zarude**: Zarude can shrug off Scald, heal burns with Jungle Healing and can set up on Suicune.

**Shedinja**: Suicune cannot harm Shedinja, though variants without Swords Dance may be PP stalled.

**Status Conditions**: Without Rest, Suicune can be easily crippled by faster Pokemon with status such as Eternatus.

**Taunt**: Taunt users such as Yveltal can completely shut Suicune down.

**Phazing**: Suicune can be phazed by Pokemon such as Ho-oh, Lunala and Kyogre, which stops it from boosting and preys on its entry hazard weakness. Kyogre can be especially dangerous as it can feign not having Roar and set up.

we discussed a new spread with Aberforth and Lasen on discord, please put this one:

Suicune
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 44 SpD / 176 Spe
Bold Nature

36 def does this

108 Atk burned Groudon Precipice Blades vs. 252 HP / 36+ Def Suicune: 78-92 (19.3 - 22.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
108 Atk Groudon Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 36+ Def Suicune: 86-102 (21.2 - 25.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

and 176 speed allows it to outspeed adamant vish (250 vs 249)

change the analysis accordingly and i'll QC this

Make it clear in those calcs that those Groudon calcs are specifically for substitute scenarios, 6hko and 5hko aren't important details compared to being able to sub up on them.

There isnt enough detail in here yet as to why you should ever use it over Kyogre. Highlight the situations where Suicune is better, and also why Kyogre is used a lot more than Suicune. Also mention Suicune's role against passive teams, wasting a lot of their PP quickly when they'd normally be able to beat Kyogre with those same pokemon (Blissey gets PP stalled and set up on, for example).

I'll prob give the second QC, after Situm does, but implement this stuff for now before Situm gives the first check please :).

the electric attackers counters section is probably kinda false since zekrom can be burned and regieleki is irrelevant, so you should remove that, but otherwise it looks good.

QC 1/2

I'd like to see a brief mention of a few specific offensive Pokemon as teammates that really take advantage of Suicune's burn spam.

QC: 2/2

Suicune was just unranked, gonna shelf this as it's now deemed unviable
