Sun Of A Bitch (Solrock Discussion)

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/338.shtml

Everyone loves a pun, don't they? No? Anyway...

Solrock. He's got no discussion threads about him, which seems strange for something that saw quite a bit of play in ADV UU. So what did DP bring this floating rock?

Physical Movepool

Stone Edge
Rock Slide
Earthquake
Gyro Ball
Body Slam (Emerald Tutor)
Explosion

Not much here, but just enough. Lost Shadow Ball as a physical move though.

Special Movepool

Flamethrower
Fire Blast
Overheat
Grass Knot
Psychic
Charge Beam
Shadow Ball
Solarbeam

Also limited, but you won't be using these much unless you try a Calm Mind set.

Support Movepool

Calm Mind
Cosmic Power
Reflect
Light Screen
Safeguard
Stealth Rock
Will-O-Wisp
Trick Room
Rock Polish
Baton Pass (XD move)

Some good additions here. Will-O-Wisp, Stealth Rock and Trick Room being the most notable.

Here's a few movesets.

Choice Band

Solrock @ Choice Band
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) or Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Explosion
- Overheat/Fire Blast/Body Slam

He lost Shadow Ball as a physical move so a Fire move can work as a replacement, although it doesn't do much damage except to Bug/Steel types like Scizor.

Body Slam can grab some paralysis support if you prefer that to a Fire move.

Gyro Ball is his only other half decent physical move, but it'll require making him really slow to make use of it. His Speed gets down 158 with a hindering nature or 130 with a 0 IV, so it can work.

Besides gaining Stone Edge and losing Shadow Ball, this isn't much of a change.

Rock Polish

Solrock @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 156 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rock Polish
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge/Rock Slide
- Explosion

Patch up his mediocre Speed with Rock Polish and attempt a sweep. Explode when you're done.

Life Orb gives him 412 Attack, which probably still isn't enough to sweep effectively.

Rock Slide's flinch rate might be helpful after he gets off a Rock Polish.

Trick Room

Solrock @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 228 HP / 252 Atk / 28 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide/Stone Edge
- Explosion

More HP so he can take hits a little better. He's just about slow enough to pull off Trick Room, but this is more likely to be useful in the 2 v 2 environment.

Baton Pass

Solrock @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 92 HP / 176 Spd / 240 Atk
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Substitute/Cosmic Power
- Baton Pass

Sub is probably the better option for passing. I can't see this set being that useful, but I could be wrong.

Support

Solrock @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 228 HP / 252 Atk / 28 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Reflect/Light Screen/Will-O-Wisp

Some useful resistances and an always welcome Ground immunity, so he might do ok with this set.

Pick whichever support option suits your team for the last slot.

He was quite effective at taking on Dragon Dance Gyarados in ADV, but with the addition of Waterfall as physical STAB he can't really do that too well. Same goes for CB Salamence, as it's main form attack is now Dragon Claw and the Choice Specs set murders Solrock.

Discuss Solrock.

Support Rox:

~Reflect
~Rock Polish
~Baton Pass
~Rock Slide/Stone Edge

Works well on a Tyranitar team with Sandstorm boosting its SD.

"Agilipassing" is quite GG, and Rox actually has the defenses to pull it off. Choose the Rock move at your preference.

The problem with Solrock (and Lunatone) is that its typing makes it weak to quite a few common attacking types in OU (Dark, Bug, Water, and Grass being the most notable) and it doesn't resist anything interesting (Ground is the most notable, and only due to Levitate). Flying resistance, although cool, seems to have lost a bit of merit in DP, mainly due to Hidden Power Flying becoming special.

Solrock probably has lost abit of value for one reason stated that HP Flying is now special.

Back in Advance Solrock and Lunatone were able to at least boast resisting a standard Gyarados. But I'd find Lunatone more useful despite being a Solrock user primarily.

Reasons? Calm Mind + Decent speed + Hypnosis. Either way I like the following two myself.

Solrock
-Rock Polish
-Will O'Wisp
-Stone Edge
-Baton Pass

Straight to the point in terms of support.

Solrock
-Will O'Wisp
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake/Explosion
-Stealth Rock
