The Coba tribe gets their first look at the new Yache tribe, where ragmatho was voted out at the last tribal council. And with that, it is time for the next challenge.

F13 Challenge - Modified Quiz Bowl

Each tribe selects 4 people to participate in the challenge, 1 each for 4 different categories: Math/Science, Arts/Literature, Politics/Government, and an Anything Goes category in which a mix of question categories (and maybe some questions not grouped under the previous 3 cats, too) will be asked.

Rather than trying to schedule live stuff between 8 people + hosts, the hosts will have questions (based on the above categories) prepared ahead of time and will ask them individually to the players. The tribe that gets the most questions correct across all four categories wins the challenge. If there’s a tie, then the tribe that answered the questions faster wins.

Players are not allowed to communicate with their tribe (or anyone else) while answering.

Tribes have a maximum of 24 hours to decide their lineup. If you have any questions, feel free to ask now.

Math/Science:Hannah scored 6.5 points while zorbees scored 7 points
Arts/Literature: AJ subbed in over granny and scored 8 points while Mikaav scored 1 point
Politics/Government: Viper scored 4 points while Flyhn scored 2 points
Anything goes: Hys subbed in for Mithril and scored 4 points while Drookez scored 4 points.

First off, after lowish activity from both tribes during the first half of today, I offered both of them the ability to sub people out. Coba took the opportunity to sub while Yache did not.

Hannah scored a half a point for a question asking to explain a concept and its applications; her answer for the concept was satisfactory but her answer for the applications was not, so she lost half a point there.

Below are all the questions/answers:
Math/Science
1. Lacking an agreed upon, concrete definition, _____________ is a field of study often involving quantities, symbolic logic, and change. (mathematics)

2. A pattern of processes that impacts an organism or its behavior based upon an environmental oscillation, usually in relation to the sequencing of a day. (Circadian rhythm)

3. _____________ is an unsolved/unproven math theory that posits every even number greater than 2 can be written as the sum of two prime numbers. (Goldbach’s conjecture)

4. An unneeded organ or appendage in a current organism that once had use either in an earlier stage of its life or in an earlier evolutionary variant. (vestigial)

5. This theorizes that there is no infinite set that has its size constrained between integers and real numbers. (continuum hypothesis)

6. Approximately how many planetary systems have there been more than one exoplanet discovered within? (632)

7. What are the types of polarization of the CMB? (e-modes and b-modes)

8. This process allows for the recycling of unneeded cellular components. (autophagy)(Hannah answered Lysosomes Breakdown, which isn't maybe the best answer but I grudgingly accepted it)

9. What are Hilbert spaces and their applications?

10. ___________ is an appendage or structure that consists of primarily muscles without a skeletal support that an organism is able to move about largely at the organism’s own control. (muscular hydrostat)

Art/Literature
1. What are the points towards which parallel lines converge in a two-dimensional representational artwork? (vanishing points)

2. Color _______________ refers to a color’s hue and its relative leanings towards a certain direction on the color wheel. This property deals with hue, not value. (temperature)

3. ____________ refers to an artwork (usually three-dimensional) that is usually composed of multiple parts and spread across a certain space. (installation)(I also excepted assemblage since it technically fits)

4. This famous seventeenth century pair of books is intertextual, and breaks the “fourth wall” by having the events of the second book directly react to the readers’ responses towards the first. (Don Quixote)

5. _________________ refers to a story in which chronological events are broken up and even arranged out of order. (nonlinear narrative)

6. This twentieth century novel thematically deals with mental health and the societal pressures of young women, marriage, and intimate relationships. The work is largely agreed to be semi-autobiographical. (The Bell Jar)

7. This sixteenth century altarpiece was made for a monastery hospital for those suffering from plague-like skin conditions. The outer image shares similar inflictions and the narrative structure of the altarpiece loosely shows a sequence of gruesomely detailed pain followed by a colorful, arguably more hopeful resurrection panel on the interior. (Isenheim Altarpiece)

8. This low-relief artwork from circa 3000 BC features a series of four registers that display a narrative structure depicting a hierarchy of the world and humans’ place within it. (Warka Vase)

9. The ______________ is a collection of short stories and parables that are thematically linked by challenging the limits of societal logic (and inverting such logic) and advisories about not going against the natural “way” of the world (which is often distinct and separate from the way of society). Such short stories include singing after the death of one’s wife in joy of her progression to the next stage. (Zhuangzi)

10. This twentieth century American artist made architectural modifications that often involved cutting across or removing sections of buildings, fundamentally altering the spaces. He often worked with condemned buildings. (Gordon Matta-Clark)

Politics/Government
1. In 1982, one politician holding this surname overcame his political opponent to return to a position he had for all but 4 years since 1973. A different man of the same name was defeated in a 1968 gubernatorial election, later to be appointed the Attorney General and arrested while holding this position for drunk driving. A third man with this last name was a third-party governor for three terms. (La Follette)

2. This policy in India is, according to a Nobel peace prize winner, credited with the weakening of guerillas and human trafficking, but it is more broadly recognized as a mostly failed attempt to control “black money.” (ANSWER: demonetization of 500- and 1000-rupee notes in India [accept descriptive answers mentioning that 500 and 1000 rupee notes will no longer be legal tender in India)

The Coba Tribe gets their first look at the new Yache tribe, where OM was voted out at the last tribal council

F12 Challenge: Water-Downed RPG

Each tribe picks 3 characters classes from the below list. A single character class may be picked more than once if desired. Each character has 5 points that can be allocated between their Action Skills to improve their effectiveness. Each character is decided to be made in the “front” or “back” of the party. Then… the tribes’ parties fight it out! Once each tribe has assembled their party, we will gather in a PS room to play the game, where dice rolls will be clearly visible. At least one member from each tribe must be present to declare actions, though it is preferable if more members of the tribe are there to help out.

This game is a dice based game, where actions (and damage) are based on dice rolls and other modifiers.

Once the battle starts, actions will be decided/declared after the immediately previous action is done. That is to say, each action is reactive to the latest action, rather than actions for all characters being submitted all at once at the beginning of a turn order in which actions are predictive of what will happen during that turn.

Characters can be chosen to be placed in the “front” or the “back” of each party. Front/Back impacts the effectiveness of Close skills. Effectively the characters are placed in a 4 column space, where Coba’s “back” column occupies column 1, Coba’s “front” column occupies column 2, Yache’s “front” column occupies column 3, and Yache’s “back” column occupies column 4. Any Close skill’s final result is reduced by 5 points for every column of difference between the user and the target, even if the target is an ally. Ranged skills are not impacted by distance like Close skills are, but as a result, the base power of Ranged skills are naturally lower than Close skills, on average. Character front/back positions cannot be changed after the start of the battle; once decided, they are locked in place.

Action Skills (across all characters):
AvailableBludgeon Attack (Close)(Physically Offensive)
Piercing Attack (Close) (Physically Offensive)
Magic Touch (Close) (Magically Offensive)
Healing Touch (Close) (Magically Restorative)
Give Dogfood (Close) (Physically Restorative)
Arrow Attack (Ranged) (Physically Offensive)
Magic Attack (Ranged) (Magically Offensive)
Snowball Throw (Ranged) (Mixed Offensive)

Mixed Offensive actions always target the opponent’s weaker of its defenses, whereas Physical skills are affected by the target's physical defense and magical skills are affected by the target's magical defense.

Action Skill Point Allocation: Each character has 5 points that your tribe has to distribute between its skills to increase its dice roll. For example, if you have a Wizard character, you may choose to allocate 3 points into its Magic Touch skill and 2 points into its Magic Attack skill.

Defense Modifiers: A character’s physical and magical defense are marked as Low, Moderate, or High. These impact not only the damage multiplication when a character receives damage, but also modifies when a character receives Restoration.
Low – This character takes 1.25 times damage from a corresponding physical or magical attack. This character recovers .75 times the HP from the corresponding physical or magical restoration.
Moderate – No defense modifiers
High – This character takes .75 times the damage from a corresponding physical or magical attack. This character recovers 1.25 the HP from the corresponding physical or magical restoration.

Initiative – Initiative determines the order in which characters move at the start of the battle, and once determined this order will not change during the course of the battle. Initiative always is made up of a base number plus the result when each character rolls a d20 at the start of the game. For example, a character with a base 5 initiative that rolls a 20 has an initiative of 25, which would be higher than a character with a base 10 that rolls a 12.

Damage/Restoration Calculation:
(dice roll - distance modifier if Close action + skill allocation points) x defense modifier x special modifiers = Damage or Restoration amount, rounded down to the nearest whole integer. If the result is ever a negative number, the target will gain HP in the case of an offensive action being used against them and lose HP in the case of a restorative action being used against them.

What I need from each tribe:
-List of 3 characters chosen
-Each character's skill allocation points
-Each character's front/back position
-A name for each character (makes things less confusing when the battle starts)

If I get all of the above soon and if each tribe has at least one member who can play for about an hour tonight, we'll try to get this rolling tonight. If not, then tomorrow afternoon (Eastern Time) is the latest that the battle can happen.

Any questions, feel free to ask. You have a bit of reading to do, sorry :c

In a very long and close challenge, Coba pulled it out with the luckier dice rolls since both tribes independently came up with the same team structure. This means Yache goes to tribal council yet again.

The Coba tribe gets their first look at the new Yache tribe, where Mikaav was voted out at the last tribal council.

Time for the next challenge!

F11 Challenge: Round Robin 1v1

Each player brings one Pokemon that they must pm the hosts with prior to challenge starting. All Ubers are banned. Please challenge using the OU format, not a Custom Battle. Once picked, players cannot change their chosen Pokemon during the course of the challenge. Moves, EVs, etc all stay the same and can't be changed throughout the challenge. Players are not allowed to spectate matches; if you join another challenge match to watch, you will be disqualified. Players should make matches/replays hidden and only give replays to the hosts. Don't give replays to your tribemates; don't tell players what anyone else's mon is or anything about it. Focus sash is allowed.

After the challenge is over, the player who won the most matches will gain Immunity.

Also... It's now the merge! Don't forget to give me a merged tribe name and lots of confessionals! Will the Cobas continue to dominate challenges, or will an untimely Thief steal an advantage in the game? We'll find out in due time! Good luck to all the players as we dive into the individual portion of the game.

Viper has won individual immunity and cannot be voted out at the next tribal council. Everyone else is fair game. You have 24 hours to give me your votes and I'll reveal the votes once I receive all of them. Also, everyone please give me confessionals and invite Rodan/me to alliance chats! Today's confessional topic is "What are your thoughts on idols in this season? Who has an idol or advantage and how would you go about finding one if you were looking?" (though feel free to give confessionals with other information as well)

F10 Challenge - Boggle

Part 1
-Players cannot talk to each other while doing the challenge or share boards after doing the challenge.
-Players must contact the hosts at a time convenient for both parties to do the challenge.
-The hosts will give each player 3 boggle boards, 1 at a time.
-Players have 3 minutes per board to find as many legal words as they can. Once one board is finished, another starts.
-Note: This first part is entirely about finding the most words, not longest words/word points.
-I am not enforcing a minimum number of letters per word
-Letters must be adjacent to be linked into the same word
-Don't repeat the same letter square within a single word
-After all players have completed their 3 boards or after 36 hours has passed (whichever comes first), the first part of the challenge ends.

Part 2
-The players with the 2 top word counts move on to a live finals where they will compete in a bo3 traditional boggle game, where scores are tabulated based on the points assigned to each letter across all words spelled like in scrabble. The first to win 2 rounds wins individual immunity.

NO USING WORD GENERATORS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT PLS

Good luck to all. Any questions about Boggle or this challenge that you can't answer after googling, feel free to ask : )

To those of you who are missing votes, repeated vote missing will likely get you pulled from the game, like what happened to Animus is CAP s2. you've been warned

F9 Challenge - Minority Game

There will be X number of locations per round (this number is subject to change between rounds). Players must choose one location to visit each round. The location with the most players visiting in a round will run out of resources and everyone in that location will be eliminated from the challenge. If multiple locations tie for the most number of people visiting, all people at these locations will be eliminated unless doing so would remove all players from the game, in which case the round will be void and all players survive. After that, the next round starts with the players remaining in the challenge. The game continues until there is only one player remaining, and that player will win immunity. In the event that two players are left standing at the end in which a tie cannot be resolved, I will keep the tie breaking method secret until that time.

Players are allowed, and expected, to talk to each other in this game to figure out which locations to visit. Players are allowed to lie to each other in this game. The goal is to visit a location that does not have the most people.

Round one has the following locations: Red Stone Cave, Forest Ruins, Seafoam Cave B, and Sparse Savanna. Please pick your locations soon.

The entire challenge has to be completed within 48 hours.

F8 Challenge - Single Elimination Randbat Tournament

Players have been randomly paired up and will face off in a single elimination gen7 randbats tournament. All matches will be best of five. You have 24 hours to schedule your match with your first opponent, and another 24 hours to play your first match. From that point on, every other round has a 24 hour limit (and you should probably do contingency scheduling with your possible next opponents just to get ahead) . If you and your next opponent finish early, you may play early. I'm hoping if things move quickly and that the challenge will be done within 72 hours or less.

C) ItzViper482 vs Flyhn

Challenge 12 - Timed Jigsaw Puzzles

PM the hosts to have access to three different jigsaw puzzle links. After completing each puzzle, take a screenshot of it. The player who completes all three puzzles with the combined least number of movements wins the challenge. You are not allowed to try any puzzle multiple times and your first score of turns it takes to complete will be your only score. If you take too long and it looks like you're trying to do a puzzle multiple times to cheat, we will take action. You are not allowed to tell your fellow players anything about any of the puzzles.

The challenge will last until everyone has completed it or until 48 hours from this post, whichever occurs first.

F6 Challenge - Integer Auction

Contestants must all coordinate and schedule a time to do this challenge live. This scheduled time to do the challenge must be within the next 24 hours (don't try and schedule something for Thursday/Friday).

Each contestant begins with 10 bidding cubes, numbered 1 through 10.

A series of auctions are held, with number (0-9) and operator (+ - / x ) tiles being put up for bids. Players have 5 seconds to place a bid using one of their numbered cubes; once a bid is placed, the other players have 5 seconds to match or increase the bid, otherwise the highest bidder wins the tile(s). If there is a tie bid, the no one gets the number or operator and it is instead discarded. If nobody places a bid on a tile, or two players bid the same number on a tile, the tile is discarded. Any cubes used in an auction are also discarded, whether or not the bid was successful. The order in which the tiles are auctioned off is known to the players ahead of time.

Players must use all of the tiles obtained through auction to complete a mathematic equation that equals 10. Number tiles cannot be combined to make two-digit numbers. The first player to complete an equation that equals 10 wins individual immunity. If nobody can complete an equation equaling 10 by game's end, the player who is closest wins.

F4 Challenge - OU Pokemon Auction and Tournament

Welcome to the OU Auction! Here, players will bid on mons to use in 4 person, single elimination OU tournament. Each match will be bo3. There will be certain mons that are banned from being on your team unless you win their bid in this auction.

The mons available to buy in this auction are as follows:
Heatran
Landorus-T
Kartana
Zygarde
Tapu Koko
Magearna
Scizor
Toxapex
Greninja / Greninja-Ash (they come together as a single mon)
Tapu Lele
Tapu Bulu
Pelipper
Tyranitar
Tangrowth
Zygarde

If you don’t win the bid for a mon or item in the auction, you may not use it in the tournament. Everything not in the auction but playable in USM OU may be used by any player without the need to buy it. Players are all given 500 dollars to bid and may only bid in 20 dollar increments. The minimum bid on anything in the auction is 100 dollars. No trading of auction items allowed, no pooling of bidding units allowed. In the event of a tie bid, the person who bids first gains the auction item and pays the bid amount; the other(s) don’t get the bid item but don’t lose bidding money.
Once you bid on something, you cannot unbid on it and you will win its bid unless someone else outbids you.

A bid template looks like this:
Funds available: [500 - your previous bids still in place]
X units for mon/item
Y units for mon/item
Funds available after new bids: [500 - new bids - previous bids still in place].

The auction ends in 24 hours, so get your bids in fast. If your bids get sniped away at the last minute and you have nothing bought, I will let you pick 1 or 2+ unbought mons/items, depending on how many are leftover. After the auction is over, the tournament will last for a max 48 hours. The bracket will be revealed after the auction.

Hannah has requested to be voted out, and her tribemates have complied with her wish. She will immediately join the jury.

The auction challenge above is being repurposed from a four person single elimination into a three person round robin. The winner of the challenge gets the power to vote out a member of the jury. The jury member voted out will not go to ftc, will not join ftc discussion, and will not cast a vote for the winner.

This game is not done yet.
