Project SV OU - Lure That Threat - On Hiatus

:sv/ting-lu:

Ting-Lu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 60 Def
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge / Body Press (Doesn't matter once Weavile teras)
- Stomping Tantrum
- Heavy Slam
- Throat Chop

You lead with Ting-Lu. Your opponent somehow predicted it and sent out Weavile.

"Hazard lead Ting-Lu eh? It's going to take more than an Earthquake or a Ruination to stop ME from sweeping your team!" Weavile snorted. "Your hazards won't slow my team down either, didn't you see my Great Tusk? Heck. Even if you ran Stone Edge, it is unable to KO!"

(0 Atk Ting-Lu Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 222-262 (79 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO)

Weavile lunged into Ting Lu, attacking it with freezing kicks. But even with all of that was unable to KO it.

252 Atk Tera Ice :weavile: Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 196 HP / 60 Def Ting-Lu: 396-468 (79.2 - 93.6%) -- approx. 2HKO

"Just what I've expected from you. But after you've set a layer of Spikes, it's over."

Your Ting-Lu was silent. It suddenly leaped into the air and then... 252+ Atk Ting-Lu Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 362-428 (128.8 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

"What the-" Weavile was unable to finish it's sentence as it was absolutely decimated by Ting-Lu.

Weavile lay on the floor unmoving, and got sent back into it's Pokeball...

The moral of the story: Should've invested in defensive EVs somehow.

Random calcs to show how ridiculously bulky Ting-Lu is:
252 Atk Wellspring Mask :Ogerpon-Wellspring: Power Whip vs. 196 HP / 60 Def Ting-Lu: 350-414 (70 - 82.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Choice Band :Barraskewda: Liquidation vs. 196 HP / 60 Def Ting-Lu: 314-372 (62.8 - 74.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs :Enamorus: Moonblast vs. 196 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Vessel of Ruin Ting-Lu: 288-342 (57.6 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+5 0 Def :Archaludon: Body Press vs. 196 HP / 60 Def Ting-Lu: 396-466 (79.2 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tera Blast
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

Looking at your team in preview, the weavile player laughs. Jolteon in OU? Nah. They switch their weavile in a free turn against it, knowing it's strongest move is non-lethal. 252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Weavile: 195-230 (69.3 - 81.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO.
Easy pickings, they think. 252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jolteon: 282-336 (104 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO.
No. We have the power of fairies on our side. 252 SpA Life Orb Tera Fairy Jolteon Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Weavile: 346-408 (123.1 - 145.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO.

Doesn’t bpress delete weavile and that means people wouldn’t stay in anyway? Idk since I don’t use ting-lu.

I could be lazy and use a colbur berry Gking set with focus blast, which has basically be done before, but instead I’ll have something else:
Edit: This somehow won even though I posted this back when I was stupid and wrote a 252 HP instead of 244 HP to maximize poison heal. I've changed it now.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Spikes
- Protect
- Brick Break
With Tera water you completely wall weavile, and brick break completely nukes it. A lot of gliscor are Tera dragon now and also normally gliscor can’t do anything to weavile even with Tera water. This will make people send in weavile on your gliscor. This set is still useful in teams since it still has spikes and toxic and you can sometimes use brick break to break screens. Gliscor can even eat a +2 knock off, so it’s pretty good at luring weavile. Here’s some damage calcs:
252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Water Gliscor: 57-69 (16.1 - 19.4%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252 Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Water Gliscor: 93-111 (26.2 - 31.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Poison Heal

0 Atk Tera Water Gliscor Brick Break vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 292-348 (103.9 - 123.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Water Gliscor: 114-135 (32.2 - 38.1%) -- approx. 85.7% chance to 4HKO after Poison Heal

+2 252 Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Water Gliscor: 186-219 (52.5 - 61.8%) -- 64.5% chance to 2HKO after Poison Heal

Slowking-Galar @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Thunder Wave
- Chilly Reception
- Future Sight / Slack Off
- Sludge Bomb

Not a complicated set, Weavile comes in expecting to get a free knock but Colbur and max def lets you live two knocks back to back which lets you thunder wave then chilly out or slack off after.

252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowking-Galar: 156-189 (39.5 - 47.9%) -- approx. 3HKO
252 Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Colbur Berry Slowking-Galar: 126-148 (31.9 - 37.5%) -- 92.7% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Weavile Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowking-Galar: 168-200 (42.6 - 50.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO (No Item)

Bruuuuh look at my previous post. Is this allowed if someone mentions a set but doesn't provide one and someone else uses it? Also Gking can use focus blast which is funny.

Not sure if you're implying anything but I'll be real buddy, I did not read any of yalls posts.
I wasnt implying anything. I wasn't saying like to ban you or whatever and also I feel like that set is really cool. My first two posts were the exact same concept actually as previous ones: the first was a focus blast tera fighting clefable (someone else had done that but i didnt see the post) and tera fighting focus blast gking (also done before) so I'm not saying you did anything wrong.

Probably gonna skip this week (I may change my mind) but I'd recommend we update the Hall of Fame given that we're already over a dozen weeks behind. That number is going to stack up very fast if we forget about it, and that'll be a lot of effort to fix.

:Kommo-o:

Kommo-o @ Weakness Policy / Jaboca Berry
Ability: Overcoat
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 168 HP / 8 Atk / 80 Def / 252 SpA
Lax Nature
- Upper Hand
- Clanging Scales
- Vacuum Wave
- Flamethrower

Quick note about the EVs: If you would like to survive 5 hit Icicle Spear from Loaded Dice, you may use:
EVs: 168 HP / 96 Def / 244 SpA
Lax Nature

(This is my first time doing this so forgive me if I'm misunderstanding how this works, also I goofed the EVs/calcs like 17 times so hopefully its right)

This took me forever to find a mon that can swap into Weavile and take advantage of it staying in. I started my search by looking at mons on the viability list that Weavile dunks on usually. At first, I started messing around with max phys bulk :roaring moon: with jaw lock dragon dance and fighting tera tera blast/focus miss :blissey:, but it was too reliant on tera to work. Ideally, I would like my lure to work with/without tera. Finally, I landed on: :kommo-o:

Now, surely this dumb little dragon dies switching into a 80-120 base power ice move right? Wrong.

252 Atk Weavile Ice Spinner vs. 168 HP / 80+ Def Kommo-o: 174-206 (52.2 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 168 HP / 80+ Def Kommo-o: 186-222 (55.8 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 168 HP / 80+ Def Kommo-o: 258-312 (77.4 - 93.6%) -- approx. 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Well, it lived (barely, like there's maybe 4 evs of leeway to survive switching in while rocks are up). Surely :Weavile: just clicks Ice Shard now right?

0 Atk Kommo-o Upper Hand vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 436-516 (155.1 - 183.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Upper Hand will go before Weavile can attack with Ice Shard and OHKO if it is not holding a Focus Sash. Now, what if you are worried about Focus Sash and you are not running Stealth Rock? Well, thats where the second option for the held item comes into play. It reduces the overall strength of Kommo-o after Weavile is gone, but guarantees a KO against Focus Sash Weavile without having to play Upper Hand vs Vacuum Wave mind games. I considered Rocky Helmet, however, there is always the slight possibility of Protective Pads or switching into an Ice Shard (non-contact move). Jaboca Berry is activated by ANY physical attack, is eaten by the holder, and inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of the opponent's total HP, therefore it will activate on Ice Shard.

I must state that this isn't consistent, but even if they switch out immediately, you now have a +2 Atk and +2 SpA Kommo-o that can at least get a Vacuum Wave off. I do believe that many would not consider Upper Hand at all and immediately use Ice Shard though.

Tropius @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Harvest
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Body Press
- U-turn
- Giga Drain / Hurricane
- Protect / Synthesis

Tropius is a passive Pokemon that usually uses Leech Seed combined with Substitute and Protect. The ideal target for Weavile to come after. However, it gets Body Press and U-Turn, allowing the Grass dino to work as a pivot, OHKOing Weavile in the process.

Other Pokemon Tropius can check:
Zamazenta
Great Tusk (Tera'ing to avoid Ice Spinner).
Waterpon
Rillaboom (only with Synthesis, since you will lose the Sitrus).
Hisuian Samurott
Landorus-T
Serperior
Keldeo

:slowking-galar: :jolteon:
Also, at the votes it looks like Ting-Lu has to rely on tera Steel to stand a chance against Weavile :blobpensive:
252 Atk Tera Ice Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 196 HP / 60 Def Ting-Lu: 396-468 (79.2 - 93.6%) -- approx. 2HKO
Ting Lu can very much tank a hit from Weavile.

(Maybe call it Heavy Slam Ting-Lu? Idk)

The deadline for the voting phase will be February 14th at 11:59 GMT-8.
Heey!
Are we counting Smashburn's post or not?
  • If so, Glowking wins.
  • If not, we are in a three-way tie between Gliscor, Glowking and Kyruem, then we'd wait for extra votes (idk if you now count Smashburn's one or not, I don't run this).
