SwampStall [OU STALL TEAM]

Hey Smogoners. Been quite awhile since I posted a new team. This team is called SwampStall (first thing in my mind after I built this team) but it can be called anything with the first bit of the pokes name in front. Like ForrStall and SlowStall. Well, I told you three of my pokemon but I'll show you the rest of the the team and also incase you couldn't figure out the three names I showed you earlier on, but I know you would figure it out and blah blah blah, I talk too much. Now, for the team!

Drum roll please! (drum roll) I present... (drum roll gets faster) Team... (still getting faster!) SwampStall, ForrStall, SlowStall or the other teammates name with Stall after! Now I put a colon and show you the team :
:D

There is also good synergy! :naughty:

So, as you can see team can also be called BlissStall, RoseStall and also RotStall! But the team is actually a Entry Hazard team so it can be called SpikeStall and blah blah blah...

And this team was actually built because of Slowbro. After looking at the OU analysis of it, I just had to try Slowbro out.

Now! Onto the team!

Inside the Hat is:

260.png

Swampert (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Roar
- Stealth Rock

First, it's Swampert as the lead! I know it is quite plain but after choosing all the other teammates I was left with a Stealth Rocker and also a phazer. At first I completely forgot about Swampert so I was rummaging through Smogon's strategy pokedex, finding pokemon having one of the moves or the other one. Oh where could I find my Stealth Rocking lead and also a Roarer/Whirlwinder? Well, right infront of my eyes really. And after a long period of time, I finally met with Swampert, relieved to find my Stealth Rocker and phazer.
Yeah, Swampy will help scout and weaken the opponents with entry hazards and Roar... Also laying rocks... I think I'll go over that for some reason.

The Moves

Earthquake - Swampert's STAB option and hits stuff like Metagross and Heatran. Earthquake will also help later on in the game if it should survive which I will more than definitely try to let it live, with high HP left.

Ice Beam - Yeah, kinda same as above as this will help later on in the game as it should knock out stuff like Salamence along with Slowbro. And I will also more than definitely try to let it live also with high HP.

Stealth Rock - Ah, what I was looking for. The move that almost every team has! Woo. Floating rocks that hit the opponent pokemon! Stealth Rock for the win! Anyway, these rocks are pretty self-expalantory so I don't need too talk about that anymore.

Roar - Also what I was looking for! My phazer. Gunna be tough for my opponent if I can lay down all three entry hazards and also predict Rapid Spins so I can go the Rotom-H.

Anyway, that's Swampert done.

So Next in the Hat:

205.png

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Atk / 144 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Gyro Ball
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes

Secondly it's Forretress! Forretress will acts as my Toxic Spiker and my Rapid Spinner. He has also been my choice over Skarmory because of it being able to Rapid Spin aswell as also being able to use Toxic Spikes. He used Toxic Spikes over Roserade because of the fact he can hurt the Grounded Poison pokemon that switch in, who would get rid of the Toxic Spikes (I actually imagine them to eat the Toxic Spikes to get rid of them for some reason...) and also as Steel types, who are immune to Poison moves. Forretress is very helpful on this team, so go Game Freak for creating this.... thing that spins out of control and spoots out hazardous spiky things. :S

The Moves

Earthquake - Yeah, Earthquake is used in conjunction with Toxic Spikes because it can damage the Steel and Poison pokemon that switch in. It'll also help with a predicted Magnezone switch. Oh, forgot about Fire-type pokemon like Infernape who would come in trying to burn me to death. ;(

Gyro Ball - Used for it's STAB. It can 2HKO or sometimes OHKO frail and fast pokemon who are neutral or Super Effective against it such as Gengar and Aerodactyl (probably wouldn't see Aerodactlyl later in the match as it is like ALWAYS used as a lead but I needed a example so I used that :] ).

Toxic Spikes - The second part of my Spike strategy. As I mentioned two times already, it works well with Earthquake. Spikes is covered by Roserade so I don't need to cram the two into one moveset which is good. Not much to say about this though, so moving onto Forretress's last move.

Rapid Spin - A great support move, and also with a great support pokemon! As must on this team as getting rid of the hazards is great and beneficial as offensive teams will have a much harder time OHKO each pokemon.

My Hand Pulled Out Who from the Hat?

499.png

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Thunderbolt
- Will-O-Wisp

My hand pulled out Rotom-H from the hat! Rotom-H will act as my spin-blocker. It'll counter Gyarados and Lucario (physical versions) easily, which will help me alot. The cooker is just plain awesome. Absolutely love this guy! All my team is neutral to ground, and I added Rotom-H in to help out if theres a strong Earthquake coming which may OHKO my pokes. So now that I have my pokemon which is immune to Ground, Spin Blocker, status absorber and also a counter to Lucario and Gyarados!

The Moves

Rest - Acts as my status absorber. This is used in conjunction with Sleep Talk to create RestTalk. Heals off damage when needed. Really helpful. Just REALLY helpful.

Sleep Talk - Completes RestTalk. Sleep Talk... used after Rest... randomly fires of moves which is sometimes helpful, sometimes not. I can be set up bait if Sleep Talk doesn't do the right move which can really cost me, but otherwise it's helpful and blah blah blah, next.

Thunderbolt - Thunderbolt is my only move which is a STAB aswell. It helps knock out pokemon like Gyarados and other Waters and Flyings. The 10% paralysis helped me every once and a while with the opponent going crazy because of it. I love it when people do that. ;)

Will-O-Wisp - A status inflicting move yadayadayada... Halves the opponents attack which really helps. Sleepy right now... but I gotta continue...! Zzz... I wish I could Sleep Talk, or Sleep Type...

Next Out:

80.png

Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off
- Surf
- Thunder Wave

The pokemon out next, Slowbro! He was why this team was built. *Talks to Slowbro* I'm so proud of you! You made me create this team! And as I was battling with you, you didn't let me down! I'm so SO proud of you!
Anyway, this is the OU set for Slowbro and if I remember correctly it counters Salamence and co...? This set is really good in my opinion and Slowbro has done a great job in all the battles I had with this team. Yeah, Slowbro, I now add you to my favorites where you will meet pokemon like Milotic and Cacturne! Have fun Slowbro, have fun.

The Moves

Ice Beam - Deals with the Dragons, Flyings, Grasses and Grounds running amok in the tier. Think it'll OHKO Salamence with Stealth Rock but not quite sure about Dragonite....

Slack Off - Woo! A recovery move! Who wouldn't want 50% of their HP restored instantly? Blissey... Skarmory... Milotic and basically EVERY poke! After Thunder Wave, when Slowbro is low on HP it can recover it off without getting hit and knocked out before he gets a chance so he can survive longer.

Surf - My STAB move. Deals with Fires, Grounds, Rocks and others and also does pretty good neutral damage. Slowbro can clean up weakened pokemon after Entry Hazard damage with Surf and it has done me well.

Thunder Wave - Another Status move, but this time it halves speed. Deals with those speedy threats aswell as... well, any pokemon that's not Ground because of the chance of the opponent being paralyzed!

I Choose:

242.png

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled
- Toxic
- Wish

I choose Blissey! The annoying pink blob! She'll just wall special attacks all day... She just screamed out to me, "I'm a must on your team! I'll support my teammates! I'll annoy the crap out of the opponent!" And then I chose the nurse. I know what your thinking, 'SOFTBOILED AND WISH?!' Yes, Softboiled and Wish. Softboiled is if it has no time to Wish so it can have a instant recovery move. Wish is mainly for her teammates, not herself. And then the status move, and the attacking move.

The Moves

Seismic Toss - My attacking choice. I love how it just takes away 100HP. Slowly chipping off their HP with Hazards and Seismic Toss, things can't get any worse. :)

Softboiled - Actually, it CAN get worse. Imagine if you were about to kill Blissey, and it just suddenly gets back 50% of it's HP. Well, you don't really need to imagine as you'll see Blissey everywhere. Toxic and Softboiled = DEADLY.

Toxic - And now more worse. You thought you could just fly over the Toxic Spikes, but you would get Toxic'd anyway! Blissey just gets worser and worser! But for me, better and better!

Wish - And finally, Wish. It'll support it's teammates as it supports itself. With Wish, my pokemon can come in battle with full HP if I managed to get Wish going.

And Last But Not Least:

407.png

Roserade (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Spd / 136 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Spikes
- Stun Spore

Last but not least, Roserade. He covers my last kind of entry hazard and absorbs Toxic Spikes with is helpful. Stun Spore to paralyze pokes even more, and attacking or Spiking whilst I'm at it. I never thought I'd like this set, but it's just been really helpful.

The Moves

Grass Knot - My STAB attacking move. It'll kill heavy, bulky pokemon like Swampert and will do good damage to stuff like Tyranitar (because of Sandstream. Is it a OHKO with Spikes? Dunno...).

Hidden Power [Fire] - Cover Forretress swaps as they will try to Rapid Spin all my hard work away but I'll stop them. Also try to predict Scizor swaps but probably not. Hits others like Scizor, other Grasses, Ice.

Spikes - Woo! My last type of entry hazard; Spikes. After this, force switches or attack and stall! Selfexplantory really because it's just like Stealth Rock except I lay multiple layers.

Stun Spore - Roserades last move. With a Grass paralysis move, he can now paralyze Ground types like Flygon, thinking they can swap in without getting harmed. WELL THEY WERE WRONG! As they will get paralyzed if I can predict it happening.

Well, that's the end of my team!
I will appreciate any suggestions.

Hate. Rate. Steal.

Hi. This is a decent-ish stall team, but there's really quite a few questionable/wasteful pokemon/move choice here.

The most important one is Forretress/Roserade - you can easily include Spikes on Forretress, meaning Roserade is basically on your team to switch into the occasional special attack, which Blissey is already more than capable of doing. There's two options that would work well here, with the first being giving Forretress Spikes/Toxic Spikes/Rapid Spin/Payback - you'll still be able to reliably get up all the hazards you need, and Payback is necesarry to help weaken spin blockers -, and replacing Roserade with a utility pokemon such as ScarfTar, which is incredibly useful on stall teams. Alternatively, you could try a Skarmory with a Careful nature and 252 HP/216 SpD/40 Spe and Spikes/Brave Bird/Roost/Whirlwind over Forretress, and replace Roserade with a different spinner, which I think is the preferable option. Tentacruel springs to mind here, as by using Skarmory and Tentacruel over Roserade and Forretress, you've got a more reliable spinner than you currently have now, as well as a steel-type which is more capable of switching into hits, while still having Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Rapid Spin and a Toxic Spikes Absorber.

Now, honestly, I think the standard RestTalk Gyarados would be preferable to Slowbro here, but you seem to want to use Slowbro, so I won't go down that route. However, you're going to want to replace Ice Beam with Flamethrower or Fire Blast - Slowbro lures in Scizor, and without a means of hitting it, you're going to have to be taking constant U-turns, which your team can't really do at the moment (although my Skarmory suggestion helps out with that quite a bit). You're also relying on Slowbro to check Lucario for you, and you can't reliably do that without a Fire move.

Good luck!

Hello, I agree with Tab, that you do need Rest Talk Gyarados over Slowbro. My only problem with this team is that Heatran, will give you hell, if Blissey goes down.

Here's a good spread for Gyarados to help you with Heatran:

Gyarados @ leftovers
Nature: Careful
Evs:252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Moveset: Rest, Sleep Talk, Watefall, Roar/ Earthquake.

Thanks for the rate tab. I'll try out all your suggestions and with the Skarmory and Tentacruel suggestion I can probably get rid of Swampert and replace with another lead as I don't really need two (but it would be helpful...) phazers, so I will try find a good lead. Thinking of Gliscor and might try Tyranitar as a lead. The Forretress you suggested I think it's putting a bit to much pressure on him but seeing as I never actually tried that set I wouldn't know and with Tyranitar I think it'll be really good.

Yeah, I'm gunna use Flamethrower over Ice Beam now on Slowbro, forgot he learnt it.

Again, thanks for the rate.

BlazeMurder: Yeah, I'll test out the Gyarados if it'll help. I love stall, but I'm better at offensive teams I think...

Still thinking of leads. Still Gliscor if I add Skarmory and Tentacruel. Tyranitar will be added if Forretress appeals to me. I dunno why I keep repeating stuff.

I'll test all these suggestions out later, keep them coming!

A spread of 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe Bold would help rotom better because its your main answer to Gyara and Luke and with this, you take less of their attacks and you outspeed T-tar so you can WoW and Rest off the damage. For Special Attacks there's always Blissey so.

Heatran is a problem as pointed out, its Explodes on Bliss, outspeeds Rose, gets Swampert and Slowbro with HP Grass. You should use that Gyarados over Slowbro as a good check to Heatran (as Explosion doesn't KO after intimidate.

For a lead, T-tar may be the best choice as Sand Stream helps against Leftovers and focus Sashers, and only Rose will be plagued by SS as the others have some form of recovery.

Thanks for the suggestions Maugoross. Trying out that EV spread now. This is my team I'm testing now: Gliscor as lead, Forretress as spiker (tab's suggestion), RestTalk Rotom-H (kept same, gunna try suggestion), RestTalk Gyarados (tab's and BlazeMurder's and Maugoross's suggestion), Blissey (kept same) and ScarfTar (tab's suggestion). I still have lots more to try, and I would love to make this team near perfect. :)

EDIT: I just figured out that if I use the team above I wouldn't have a Rock resist... I wanna have great synergy but with that team I don't. Looking for a new lead, or I'm just going back to Swampert.

OK, I just found Bronzong, Metagross and Hippowdon who can learn Stealth Rock and be used as a lead. Each are bulky and can be used later on in the game which is what I want, and each also have something to make them stand out.

Ok I got your VM

Anyways I would suggest like tab said tentacruel and skarmory.

Since heatran is giving your team trouble, I would suggest Heatproof Bronzong as a lead because most people assumes Bronzong is levitate, but a heatproof one can really catch people off guard, and since you have wish on blissey I would also suggest a shucca berry because if your opponent has a heatran in and knows your heatproof, it will earth power, which would normally KO you, but with the shucca, you avoid the KO and KO it back with EQ, I would suggest you use: Stealth Rock | Earthquake | Gyro Ball | Explosion.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the rate KidX. :)

I'm testing Tentacruel and Skarmory later, and with Heatran I have Gyarados on my one that I'm testing now (the team so far is above in a different post) and that teams been doing well but I'll consider that Bronzong. And once I try it, what EV spread should I use?

Use the standard evs on smogon

No, use your own EVs.

There are just too many people using smogon sets, and no offence in that.
It makes no sense to not use something because its too popular. It would make sense if it wasn't optimal, however, the QC team here is good enough that very rarely is the predetermined set not the best on you can go with. It's commonly used for a reason.

If you are going to lay down a layer of toxic spikes then why throw toxic on blissey? And do you really need Stun Spore, Will O Wisp and T-wave if you are going to be poisoning most things anywho?

Well, there are also pokemon that are either Flying-types or have the ability Levitate, so I have those just incase. There also there if I haven't laid them down. I guess it's there just incase.
